Keyboard input to change the default selection in a dialog box.

Hello,
Let say I close a file that I had just edited without saving. I'll then have a dialog box "do you want to save?" with "yes" as default. If I do not want to save my changes, how can I select "no" or "cancel" with the keyboard?
I'm sure this is an easy one for a long time Mac user.
Thanks

As a matter a fact there is. Just hit the first letter of the choice n = no, c=cancel etc. Edit. I tested this in Word for Mac and it worked but other programs don't so the method below is best.
An alternate method is to tab to the choice and hit enter.
Cheers

    I'm starting to come to this conclusion myself, actually... though, how mom managed to do this on accident without mucking about in terminals or anything more than just a cursory knowledge of the OS X system configurations (behind the scenes), I don't know : |
    ... on the other hand, her and I tend to be the exceptions to a lot of rules : |
    I downloaded and installed TinkerTool, even though it supposedly doesn't work past 10.5.8, in the hoopes that, what it displayed (regardless of what it could change) would be correct as far as my "System" and "System (Headlines)" font settings were (see attached screenshot of the font section of TinkerTool for my system--not mom's).
    I've instructed her to install and run the utility (but not to change anything) and then send me a screenshot of the "Fonts" section so I can compare it to my own. If there's something different on her system, since TinkerTool should work on hers, we may be able to fix it that way... though it would, frustratingly enough, remain a mystery to all concerned as to how she managed to stumble upon this in the first place : |
    Anyway, I'm still hard at work on it... hopefully others are too and will share what they discover (if anything).

  • Change the default select statement in the execute_query function

    I want to list all records where c1 like '%ABD%'. So I set the following in the 'when_button_pressed' tigger:
    set_block_property ('block_name',DEFAULT_WHERE,'upper(c1) like '''||'%'||:block_name.blk_col_name||'%'||'''');
    execute_query;
    When I click on the button the :system.last_query holds the following select statement:
    select c1, c2, .. cn from t_n where upper(c1) like '%ABD%' and (upper(c1) = 'ABD' and (c1 like 'ab%' or c1 like 'aB%' or c1 like 'Ab%' or c1 like 'AB%')) order by c1
    Since the condition upper(c1) = 'ABD' is not satisfied oracle does not return any rows.
    My question is how to overcome this or is it possible to change the built-in select statement of execute_query.

    Have you tried this :
    'upper(c1) like upper('''||'%'||:block_name.blk_col_name||'%'||''''));

  • Change the default option for a select box

    Hi,
    I have a select box, with the options built from a Spry Dataset
    <select name="AvatarSelect" id="AvatarSelect" spry:region="myAvatars">
        <option spry:repeat="myAvatars">{A_NAME}</option>
      </select>
    I wish to change the default selected option (which is usually the first row returned from the dataset) based on a value for A_NAME that I know from another spry dataset.
    Tried using Spry.$$('#AvatarSelect') to get to the the array of select options but to no avail.
    How can I cycle through the options and then set the selected on, based on a match for A_NAME?
    Cheers
    Phil

    Hi Phil
    I think this is the way
    <select name="AvatarSelect" id="AvatarSelect" spry:region="myAvatarsLookup myAvatarsValue">
      <option spry:repeat="myAvatarsLookup" spry:test="'{myAvatarsValue::A_NAME}'=='{myAvatarsLookup::id}'" value="{myAvatarsLookup::id}" selected="selected">{A_NAME}</option>
      <option spry:repeat="myAvatarsLookup" spry:test="'{myAvatarsValue::A_NAME}'!='{myAvatarsLookup::id}'" value="{myAvatarsLookup::id}">{A_NAME}</option>
    </select>

    The chart colors are being referred to *'palette.cxml'* file in these directories
    BI_HOME\web\app\res\s_oracle10\chartsupport
    BI_HOME\oc4j_bi\j2ee\home\applications\analytics\analytics\res\s_oracle10\chartsupport

  • How do i change the default hand tool to select tool when a document opens?  also how do i get it to open in a single page view instead of 2 pages side by side

         how do i change the default hand tool to the select tool when i open a document.
    how do i change the view from 2 pages to a single page?

    Try setting the check boxes in Edit>Preferences>General for the following:
    - Make Hand tool select text & images
    - Make Hand tool read articles
    - Make Hand tool use mouse-wheel zooming
    Adjust these as needed but does it make any difference?

  • Is there a way to change the defaulted (press 'Enter or Return on keyboard) button in a dialog box? Specifically,

    When the cookie preference is set to "ask every time" the default button (highlighted & selected when I hit return or enter) is "allow." Can I change the default button to "allow for session" so I don't have to use the mouse to select it?

    Your question/suggestion got me thinking about making a programmable function key (PFK), but I couldn't think how to make a PFK represent a mouse click. Then I tried the option [ ⌥ ] key (I don't have Alt [⎇ ] ) and the s, with or without the shift. I tried the command [⌘] key, and finally the control [⌃] key with the s — that's the one that worked. 8¬D
    I remembered scripting radio buttons, which might apply here, but it's been too long ago.
    Thank you for pointing me in a new direction, that will do well enough 'till I find out if the default button(s) can be changed in dialog boxes in general.

  • Ho do you change the default audio input volume level?

    When an iChat audio or video chat begins the input audio level goes to a default setting of about 67% om my Macbook and about 77% on my iMac regardless of where the input level slider was set prior to beginning the iChat AV session.
    On the MacBook the input level must be 100% or you will not be heard well on the other end. I have not been able to determine how to change the default input level settings for iChat.
    Can someone either tell me how to change this preset level or point me to the file that the default level resides in. I am comfortable looking for both normal and hidden files but I have not been able to locate the correct file

    Hi Mike,
    As you have found the Input volume in System Preferences > Sound > Input determines the output volume of iChat (or at least how well you are heard at the other end).
    As you have also found this never stays where you put it.
    Most people find it always returns to a point Too low for their liking. ( I have seen one post where it was always returning to 100%).
    As to where this setting is actually set on a permanent basis I have not found with my playing about with my Macs
    I have tried setting it is other apps (iMovie, GarageBand)
    I have tried deleting the com.apple.AudioDevices.plist to see if this resets it.
    If you find it can you let us know ?

    SImilarly, you cannot permanently disable the Ken Burns effect and remove it from the default settings.

  • Keyboard input source change not being saved.

    Since upgrading to 10.9 my original French spec Mac Mini reverts to French Keyboard input source when I close down, even after resetting keyboard input source to British PC on the login screen when booting up. Is there a more permanent setting option stored elsewhere?

    Hi Brendan,
    Thanks for the link. I did go into system preferences and checked that British was the default setting. In fact it was the only setting. Have subsequently done a bit more research. Up to now I have been changing input source at the initial login screen from French to British. I have just typed my username and password in using a French keyboard layout without changing the input source from French. It gets me in and the default input source is showing as British, which it is picking up from the system preferences. So there must be a setting somewhere that is specific to the login screen.
    Done some more searching online and it looks like it may be a bug!
