Keyboard - intermittent failures when typing Pavilion d4496t

Pavilion d4496t
Intel Dual Core
While typing, every fifth character or so would fail to type.  Purchased a third party keyboard assuming that the error was with the HP keyboard.
Error is still apparent.  (I've had to retype several times even in this short description.)
Any help would be appreciated.  (I'm having a great HP week - tx1000 Laptop dying and now this keyboard issue.)

Hi Bill,
I think that your palm area might be touching the touchpad when you are typing faster and that might be making the cursor to jump from one place to the other. Can you please try disabling the touchpad and try typing faster and see whether the issue happens or not? This is not a solution but just to understand what is causing this issue. It definitely does not look like a software or a hardware issue to me with the information you have given.
You can disable the touchpad by double tapping the top left corner of it.
I am waiting to hear back from you.

When I am typing on my keyboard that came with my computer, it misses letters.  I type on several other keyboards and they all work fine so I don't think it is my touch.  Had this for 3 months now and Best Buy refuses to take care of the problem for me.  Can anybody help me?

  • HT201406 Keyboard covers text when typing

SInce updating to ios8, my keyboard covers the text when typing. It's so frustrating as u cannot see what you are typing.  The keyboard is not split nor in the middle of the page.  It's docked at the bottom.  Help! iPad air

I just found a fix that works for us on both iPads. Found this in another discussion:
Try SettIngs>General>Keyboard>Split Keyboard> off. That made it possible to see what I'm typing.
    I left predicative on.
I hope this works for anybody else who is experiencing the same issue.
    Cheers!

  • Revolve 810 G1 Keyboard skips characters when typing

Hi all, Just got a brand new HP Revolve 810 G1 tablet/laptop (12GB memory 256GB SDD). Things are otherwise smooth, but there is extremely annoying problem of keyboard dropping / skipping / losing some of the characters when typing. It appears randomly, not any specific keys or combos. Up till now in this post it has skipped about 10 characters. It doesn't require fast typing, even in the Win 8 start-menu, when searching for an app and then hitting enter to start the app, it might not react on the enter press. This is just an example, letters are missing from anywhere where I type. I type quite fast and know that I am hitting the correct keys. Disabling the touchpad does not help, so it is not that I would accidentally touching it during typing. I have updated BIOS, restored OS to factory state (HP Full Recovery), switching to English OS localization, installed all Windows Updates - no help. This makes working a pain, it's not feasible to chat or type document when you have to backspace all the time to fix the mistakes that you did not make. HP Support Assistant is not finding any more updates, product number is H5F12EA#AK8,WIn 8 Pro 64-bit. I have installed a 8GB SODIMM under the back cover, replacing the included 4GB chip. Will run a memtest overnight. Anybody seeing the same?? tonttuz

Welcome to the HP forum, Tonttuz. If you have adjusted the keyboard speed properties, updated the drivers, and done all the usual, thenIt could be keylogger malware - run a deep scan and make sure you are the only watching what you typeIt could be another program slowing down the system and interfering with your input - check the Task Manager and look for "hogs" -- programs that are running with a high cpu / network / disk consumption and stealing resources. It could be hardware - the system is new, but its construction may not be flawless -- Call HP=====================================================================================It could be that the drivers, though updated, are not being read from disk - instead they may be tangled in the memory and not being read properly. You might consider, without any grand hopes of success, applying a Forced Reset: Forced Reset flushes out the persistant boot-to-boot software and driver instructions from memory and forces the system to go back to the disk to read the software and drivers from the disk Operating System. Forced Power Reset Performing a Hard Reset or Forced Reset The Power Reset cannot tell the difference between drivers - it does not analyze a driver or software program before applying it.  It assumes all the drivers and software on your computer belong there. This is a Driver Reset; this is NOT the Windows 8 Reset that installs the Operating System.  This procedure does not wipe out your files nor does it destroy your Windows setup in any way. EXAMPLE:If the driver software on disk is incorrect or if the driver software is corrupt, it will still be incorrect or corrupted after the Reset. If the driver INSTRUCTIONS are tangled, messed up, or there are bits missing from those instructions, then the Reset may fix the problem. Why a Power Reset works to fix some issues: The Power Reset does not install anything on your computer, the Power / Hard Reset does not remove programs or personal data from your computer, and the Power Reset does not change the settings on your computer.  Your data and programs remain as they were before the reset was applied.  The Reset drains out the old program instructions from the memory and forces the computer go to the on disk Operating System to get new instructions. Why a Power Reset might Not Work:If the issue is more than just entanglement, if the "good instructions" on the computer are not good enough -- that is, you need an update, a new driver, or there is a problem that cannot be "untangled", then the Reset will not work. If there is a hardware problem the Power Reset will not work.==================================================================================== If you want to contact HP directly, you may use the following: Contact HP - Worldwide Contact HP – USA - Phone Assistance  Warranty Required – USA and CanadaUSA – Contact HP // Self-Help – Email - Chat  Good Luck!

    Try a Restart.
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red "slide to power off" slider appears, and then slide the slider. Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the Apple logo appears.
     Resetting your settings
You can also try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your device settings again.... All of the settings in the settings app will have to be re-entered. You won't lose any data, but it takes time to enter all of the settings again.
    Resetting your device
Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button and the Home button together for at least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears. Apple recommends this only if you are unable to restart it.
Or if this doesn't work and nobody else on the blog doesn't have a better idea you can contact Apple.
Here is a link to their contacts with most of the information below.

  • Huge latency / keyboard-response-time when typing in IDE

I am experiencing a huge latency when working with some IDE's text editors, and keyboard response time is annoying long, sometimes what I have typed appears after a whole word is typed.
This happens in some IDE's which do some background parsing as I type,
hard drive led turns on before the text editor shows what I have typed which makes me suspect it has something to do with spin down (which yet doesn't make much sense)
    any idea guys?

I don't know which IDE you are using, but one which huge IO on background parsing sounds for me like Intellij IDEA :-)
There was a bug with java 7 which makes the entire text editor really slow.
    http://youtrack.jetbrains.net/issue/IDEA-73128
But this is fixed with the release 10.5.2 which was released this week. In this case you should install the update, otherwise no idea.
Maybe you should post which IDE's you are using so the people here must not guess to help you.

Issue with typing on keyboard on the iphone 5 with ISO 7 installed

Thank you so much, I was having this problem with a replacement Iphone 5 that was purchased from Apple today with iOS7 installed.  I had no idea why this was happening as it didn't happen to my original iphone 5 when I installed iOS7.
Turning off documents and data in iCloud solved it straightaway. Really pleased, you saved me another trip to the genius bar!!

This means you probably have a bad .plist in Home/Library/Preferences.  Trash the one with KeyboardViewer in its name.

  • E1000: Intermittent failure when uploading

This week, I activated AT&T's U-verse Internet service (which works well and faster than my previous DSL service). My problem deals primarily with uploading, as follows.
I'm a web developer. I routinely upload files to my server using FTP with Dreamweaver (CS3) on a Mac (OS 10.5). Since my switch from DSL to U-verse (which provided the Linksys E1000 router), half the time I attempt to upload a file or files to the server, the transfer goes quickly. Unfortunately, half the attempts I make get hung up; the progress bar moves verrrrry slowly, then stops and tells me that transfer failed becuse it timed out.
I've reloaded the Linksys E1000 software, hoping to fix this new problem. Sadly, that didn't correct it..
What might cause the E1000's intermittent uploading?  What's a recommended fix?
    Thanks, in advance.

Yea, I can't think of anything either. It's clearly not your router since you said that it didn't work when connected directly to your modem. Usually people don't have problems when they connect directly to their modem, but you said that it didn't work at all when you tried that. The other twist was that you said it worked a few times with the router connected.
If I were in this situation, I would reconfigure my ftp settings from scratch. If that didn't work, then I would contact the ftp server's host and tell them about my problems to see if they had any suggestions. And if that didn't work then I would contact ATT. I'm pretty sure the host would have a lot more information and solutions to fix this issue.
I don't work for Cisco. I'm just here to help.

  • Edge 15: Unsual keyboard keys issue when typing

I have a thinkpad edge 15 and I have had it for several years now and sometimes if I press on  "e" ,"3" "the volume buttons" I get a different resposne on my screen. For example,I would type "e" then I might get a "p" or it may effect the volume.I need to find a way to resolve this issue. This laptop has had water spilled on it and has been dropped, but has been in a laptop case and I think that might be the issue, but I would appricate it if you guys can give me tips on how to resolve this issue. Thanks!!

    Hi,
Im not sure if you have solved the issue you are having, but this happened because the connection on the end of the ribbon which connects the keyboard to the motherboard corrodes. We had about 20 laptops with this issue and solved them all by cleaning the end of the ribbon with a rubber.
    Hope this helps!

It is possible that you have switched the keyboard layout by accident.

Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application and you may have changed the keyboard layout by accident via a keyboard shortcut.
    * http://support.microsoft.com/kb/306993 - HOW TO: Use the Language Bar in Windows XP
    * Make sure that you have the Language bar visible on the Windows Taskbar
    * You can do that via the right-click context menu of the Taskbar: Toolbars > Language Bar
    * Check the keyboard language (keyboard layout) setting for the application that has focus via the icon on the Language bar
    * You need to do that while Firefox has focus because Windows remembers the keyboard layout setting per application
    * The default key combination to rotate the layout is the Ctrl+Shift or Alt+Shift combination that Firefox uses for some menu items
    * To avoid an unintentional switch, assign a specific key sequence (Alt/Ctrl+Shift+number) to select keyboard layouts and remove the key combination to rotate layouts (Alt+Shift or Ctrl+Shift)

  • Keyboard data input, full typing interruption, intermittent

I am hoping this post gets noticed, cant think of what else to do other than try different keywords to find users with same problem.
I get sticking/delayed response on keyboard.
When typing normally the typing stops, and does not suddenly write again like when typing too fast for the computer from the old days - it is like the data stream from the keyboard to the system is fully interrupted.
So I am typing, then nothing, then it starts again but I lose the words inbetween the stoppage.
I have zapped pram, repaired permissions, what else can I do? all keys work fine so no apparent hardware fault, or could it be a bad connector?
The fact that it seems random or related to some kind of processor interruption is as close as I can get to a diagnosis - are there any software tests or techniques to help sort this out? Driving me nuts.
Macbook already been back to apple for new MLB and battery - this problem started after I got the thing back.
    cheers

Turn in your MBP to your nearest Apple store or call Apple care over the phone and submit the laptop for repairs. Apple changed my mother board to fix this problem. It seems that many owners of first revision MBPs have this problem. You are lucky that the issue is intermittenly because some of us have suffered through perpetual unresponsive keyboards.
The problem has something to do with the heat caused by the new poweradapter, mother board, and processor design.
I just got my MBP from Apple and so far the problem has disappear.

  • Should Keyboard have the "clicking" sound when typing?

I noticed that the MacBook Pros, when typing on them, have the clicking sound when pressing each key. My wired keyboard also has a clicking sound when typing. However, the MBA I just received in the mail, does not. Only the space bar essentially does. Is this the same for all of them? Thanks.

Yes, this is normal. The keys don't really click, the spacebar isn't really a click but it makes a slightly more click like sound the other keys on the MBA.
The latest MBP keys are more like the MBA keys I believe.
