KeyBoard is no longer working on my HP Elitebook 8460P

My keyboard no longer works on my 8460p. I'm able to use a usb keyboard and the onscreen keyboard but the onboard keyboard no longer works. My HP motherboard died about two weeks after I got it and HP had it for a month and I just got it back. It would not power up and now it powers up but now the keyboard does not work. I really do not want to send it back in, I want to see if I can fix it myself before sending it back in. I'm wondering if maybe they did not connect something back or something came aloose during shipping. Any thoughts?
Thanks

Hi Corey21,
I'm not sure if you found a solution yet to your keyboard issue but I did want to direct you to the board specifically for your computer.
You may find more help for your issue here. This is for HP commercial products like Elitebooks and Probooks.

  • Keyboard shortcuts no longer work iOS 8.3. Triple tap Home button on Bluetooth keyboard no longer works either. Help!

    Since updating my iPad Third Generation ("New iPad") to iOS 8.3, Keyboard Shortcuts no longer work. Also on my Logitech EasySwitch Bluetooth Keyboard, triple tapping the home button on it no longer works to trigger Accessibility, even though that is still set up for triple tap in Settings and continues to work on the iPad itself. How can I get these functions back? Wah!

  • Keyboard shortcuts no longer work after upgrade to ios 6

    After upgrading to iOS 6, the keyboard shortcuts on my iPhone 4S no longer work.  Not only that I can't change them either.  If I add or delete a shortcut, it simply goes back to the way it was when I exit the settings and go back in.   My iPad 2 doesn't have this problem, only my iPhone 4S.
    I tried restarting as well as doing a reset (hold home and power button).
    Any idea how to fix this?

    If you want to go through all the steps I took:
    1. Restart
    2. Soft reset (hold home and power until Apple logo appears)
    3. Reset keyboard dictionary
    4. Reset all settings
    5. Clear autofill
    Only after the last step did things start working.  Prior to that I couldn't make any changes I made to the keyboard shortcuts stick, though every now and then changes would take.  Sometimes trying to delete a shortcut would crash the settings app.  In all cases the shortcuts didn't work.

  • Flex 2-15 Keyboard/Trackpad no longer working

    Basically the keyboard/trackpad are no longer working for my lapop (Flex 2-15).
    Here's the run down of what I know:
    1) Function keys still work such as brightness up or down and turning off the screen.
    2) In device manager there is the yellow traigle with an exclamation point for the trackpad, but the keyboard driver seems functioning properly.
    3) On the mouse driver it says Code 10, timed out.
    4) I've tried uninstalling the mouse driver and restarting to see if windows would install automatically, and the driver comes back, but with the same code 10.
    5) Touch screen works fine.
    6) Running Windows 8.1.
    7) Tried restoring from factory settings and the issue is still here.
    8) USB mouse and keyboard work perfectly fine.
    9) Tried switching modes to see if keyboard/trackpad was disabled, but no luck there either.
    Greatly appreciate some help here as this is beyond frustrating since I've only had this laptop for a little over a month and can no longer return it. Also Lenovo doesn't support anything besides hardware and wants $70-140 to troubleshoot this issue.
    Thanks!
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    They were trying to charge me for a "Software failure" which apparently isn't covered. I'm almost positive it's driver issues of some sort that they needed update seeing as the function keys work on the keyboard but the rest dont because the trackpad doesn't work.
    But if they're going to try and charge me for a software issue I might as well get them to replace the keyboard under warrenty just to rule that out. Sucks it's only been a little over a month.
    I purchased the laptop from Newegg.com since it was the cheapest I could find. They only do a 30-day refund/replacement unless you paid for extra insurance (which I never do since usually I can figure out most simple laptop issues).
    I usually just turn off this laptop as it's not my main one, but one I'm going to lend to my brother. And one day the keyboard was working fine and then the next day I turned it on I had issues. Worked fine for the few weeks leading up to it. I've updated windows a few times, but none of the updates were keyboard related and factory restoring didn't work so I'm at a loss.

  • Some Keyboard Shortcuts No Longer Working in Apps

    Recently, two specific keyboard shortcuts have stopped working within all my apps:
    command-1
    command-2
    For example, in Final Draft they are supposed to switch formatting to become scene headings and action lines, respectively.  All the other command shortcuts still work.  In Word, I have command-1 through command-6  commands set to change text colors.  Command-1 and command-2 no longer work but the rest stil function properly.
    All of my shortcuts worked perfectly for well over a year.  Anyone know why two of them might have stopped all of a sudden?
    Thanks in advance,
    ---Tim

    Here's the second way:
    While logged into the newly created admin account, backup the bad account's folder, delete the bad account, selecting the save data option (which is stored in /Users/Deleted Users/ as a disk image), recreate the bad account using the same username/password combo, log out and back into the recreated original account. If the problem's solved, open the saved data dmg file in /Users/Deleted Users/, open the /Library/Preferences/ folder from the saved data, open the current /Users/restored account/Library/Preferences/ folder, and slowly copy plist files from the saved data folder to the current one that don't exist in it. Log out and back in to ensure there's no conflict and things still work correctly. Resolving conflicts or identifying corrupt plist files is a laborious process. Good luck.

  • Basic Panel Keyboard Shortcut No Longer Works

    For some reason when I try to use the keyboard shortcut (command 1) to return to the basic panel it no longer works. Any ideas?

    Is there a keyboard shortcut in your operating system for Cmd-1? This would most likely override the Lightroom keyboard shortcut.
    Also, you can try deleting your preference file: https://helpx.adobe.com/lightroom/kb/preference-file-locations-lightroom-41.html

  • Keyboard shortcuts no longer work in CS4 and Leopard

    Got a new Mac Pro so the OS is Leopard, I had F-keys assigned to open menus etc., and they are no longer working, e.g., I had F 10 assigned to Image Size, now it turns the mute on and off.
    How do I get it back to the previous behavior?
    TIA,
    Geoff

    No doubt it's the new aluminum keyboard (which I love), that's tripping you up. There are a couple of ways to address it.
    Go into the Keyboard preferences and place a check for the
    i Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys
    (i.e., the "old way")
    You can then assign different keys for system level control in Keyboard shortcuts tab.
    Alternatively, you can leave it unchecked - in PS, press and hold the
    b fn
    key (next to the home key), before using your standard F key shortcuts. The fn key is basically a temporary "toggle" to switch the focus between system and application. So, pressing fn before hitting F10 will not mute the system sound, but carry out whatever PS shortcut you have assigned.

    Are the songs that you are trying to play grayed out in your playlists?
    I had this problem after upgrading to iOS 5, and I found that deleting all the songs from my device and re-syncing them fixed the problem.
    To do this:
    1. Attach your iOS device (either using the cable or to the same wi-fi network if using iTunes Wi-Fi Sync).
    2. Open iTunes, and click on your iOS device.
    3. Click on the Music tab.
    4. Uncheck the "Sync Music" checkbox at the top.
    5. When asked, click "Don't Sync Music".
    6. Sync the iOS device. Your songs will be removed from the device.
    7. Check the "Sync Music" checkbox at the top once again.
    8. Sync the iOS device again, and your songs will be re-added.
    I don't know why the upgrade made some songs unreadable, but the resync fixed the problem for me (I had to do this for each of my iOS devices after upgrading them all to iOS 5). Fortunately, I only had 1,000 songs, so the resync didn't take forever.
    Hope this helps!

  • IOS6 keyboard shortcuts no longer work

    am I the only one with this problem???  since updating to iOS6, my keyboard shortcuts do not work....at all.  Then, having switched everything to iPhone 5, keyboard shortcuts still do NOT work at all.  I've tried everything I can think of... power cycle, restart, re-sync.  anyone else having this issue???

    IDK if this will help, I turned documents off in icloud and they worked, but when I toggle or turn documents on....no luck. I read in a separate post to uninstall and then reinstall emoji.....I really don't want to delete and reneter all my shortcuts I have at least 10 for every letter. Has anyone tryed the emoji un/reinstall? I'm fine with the documents being off in icloud......for now. I hope this helps someone.

  • Save for the web keyboard command no longer works

    I have Photoshop CC on Mac OS 10.9.2.
    For some reason I can't figure out, Shift-Option-Command-S no longer opens "save for the web" dialog.  It does nothing at all.
    I can open the dialog from the menu itself, no problem; it's just the shortcut that has failed.
    The shortcut is still visible in the menu as the appropriate command, but it does not work.
    Any thoughts?

    I've found that once you start using custom shortcuts it can get you into trouble with some of the standard shortcuts.  My experience was using the Arrange Documents shortcuts from the Michael Ninness Power Shortcuts workshop, which overwrote Free Transform step & repeat.  Even though I had my custom shortcuts saved in my dual monitor workspace, it was overwriting the Essentuals workspace.
    If I reset Preferences I'd be OK again, but as soon as I switched to my dual monitor workspace, it would overwrite Essentuals again.  The fix was to reset Preferences again, and save a new version of Essentuals I called 'Essentuals 2' with keyboard shortcuts and menus checked.  That lets me use the dual monitor workspace for the most part, and switch to the Essentuals 2 workspace if I need to use FT Step & Repeat.

  • Since installing the dreadful IO6 the lock and keyboard clicks no longer work. I have checked settings and reset what should I do? Very disappointed with this upgrade.

    Since installing the dreadful Io 6 my keyboard and lock no longer click. Have checked settings and reset what next? Ver disappointed with apple.

    If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
    System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
    Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
    If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
    If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
    If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.
    This support article from Apple explains how the side switch works.

  • Keyboard shortcuts no longer working on 10.5 in Firefox and Photoshop

    We developed an Inuttitut keyboard layout for Mac OS X 10.4 and above (Inuttitut is the language of the Inuit in Nunavik, the most northerly region of Québec province in Canada). For information, our layout allows to type in Unicode whenever Caps Lock is on (Caps Lock off giving the standard Canadian English keyboard) and our keyboard layout Nunavik [Unicode] CSA can be dowloaded from this webpage (http://www.kativik.qc.ca/en/aipai-fonts). The only problem we found is on 10.5, both with FireFox (2 and 3) and Photoshop (CS3). When we select our keyboard layout (using Mac OS Input Method Selector), shortcuts using the Cmd key don't work anymore (Cmd-C for copying, etc.) in FireFox when Caps Lock is on, and in Photoshop whether Caps Lock is on or off.
    It is important to note that our keyboard layout abides by the Mac OS X standards for developing keyboard layouts, and works perfectly with all other applications we have tested so far, on Mac OS X 10.4 and 10.5.
    We believe that 10.5 has a new feature whose side effect is to render shortcuts ineffective for FireFox and Photoshop (and very likely other applications that we don't use).

  • My iPad keyboard dock no longer works.  Any suggestions on what I can do to bring it back?

    I've had the keyboard / docking station / stand for over a year now and it has never given me any problems.  A kid was touching a bunch of keys the other day and I'm not sure if it froze or has a shutdown mode or what...but it literally stopped working.  It recognizes the iPad when I place it on the pins, but NONE of the keys work.
    Help!!

  • Keyboard shortcut no longer working in webapp after FF19 was installed

    I work with a company webapp that uses the keyboard shortcut Shift+F9 to populate text boxes. Prior to Firefox version 19 upgrade on my Windows 7 PC, the shortcut worked just fine. After the upgrade, the shortcut stopped working. I have uninstalled it and reinstalled it, still shortcut does not work. I have run in Safe mode, still no shortcut. Disabled Add-ons, still no shortcut.
    I uninstalled FF19 altogether and installed FF18. The shortcut worked just fine once again. All Add-ons intact. FF auto upgraded itself to ver 19 and the shortcut stopped working again.
    I also use IE8 with the same webapp and the shortcut works just fine. Any reason why FF19 has disabled this shortcut feature? I asked our company admin of the webapp we use and he has not heard of this issue happening until now.

    This is difficult to sort out without hands on access to the webapp. I think Firefox should still allows your webapp to detect the Shift+F9, or at least it does in this simple example:
    <!DOCTYPE html>
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="content-type" content="text/html; charset=iso-8859-1">
    <title>Test Shift+F9</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <p>Try Shift+F9<br><input type="text" name="textinput" size="25" value="sample value"></p>
    <script type="text/javascript">
    function keys(key){
    if (!key) {
    key = window.event;
    key.which = key.keyCode;
    if (key.which == 120){ // F9 key
    if (key.shiftKey){
    alert("Shift+F9 pressed!");
    } else {
    alert("F9 pressed without Shift!");
    return false;
    document.onkeyup = keys;
    document.body.focus();
    </script>
    </body>
    </html>
    It's possible that a change in Firefox 19 is interfering with the function triggered by the Shift+F9 keyboard shortcut. Is there another way to run it to see whether that might be the case?

  • Keyboard navigation no longer working

    Keyboard navigation (cursor keys, home/end, page up/down) within a textbox does not seem to work for certain sites - gmail for example. Navigation in other form elements, like input fields seem to work fine. When I downgrade gmail to use their "basic html" version, everything works fine. Which leads me to think there is an issue with my version of javascript....
    The keyboard shortcuts for copy an paste (ctrl-c / ctrl-v) only seem to work within a input field tag. It doesn't seem to work within any other html element - this happens on all sites.
    I am using Ubuntu 10.4 (64 bit) with Firefox 3.6.8.
    Any help troubleshooting this would be greatly appreciated.

    Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode]] to check if one of your add-ons is causing your problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Tools > Add-ons > Themes).<br />
    See [[Troubleshooting extensions and themes]] and [[Troubleshooting plugins]]<br />
    <br />
    If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all your extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.<br />
    You can use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.<br />
    You have to close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")<br />
