Keyboard isn't functioning correctly, can't get into my computer

Hi there. A few days ago my keyboard started acting very strange. For example, when I push 'D', nothing happens. If I push it 5 times, a bunch of random letters show up. I stupidly shut my computer down and when I turned it on again of course I had to enter my password. Well, this is impossible since my keyboard doesn't really work. My question is...Is there a way that I can see my password as I'm typing it instead of the dots? That way I can figure it out. Thanks!

Do you have a wired keyboard you can use or borrow as I think you will need one to get the BT keyboard re-connected? Any wired USB keyboard should do for this.

Hello, I have a question on "quest".????? I have someone getting into my computer. I have shut of the quest... and yet yesterday all of my files were stolen. My phone book, someone goes in and changes my phone number, and just changes so many things around. It really has me upset. Please... tell me how I can keep "guest" out for good. I bought this computer for me. Not guest, yet all I see here on the apple ways is how others can hook in, or get in to our computers.
Its upsetting, and to see how you give step by step instruction to help them get into other people's computers is upsetting, yet not much on how to keep them out. Tell me just how to keep them out for good. I have a hacker, in mine. Stealing things. I have cleaned my computer out three times, in the last few weeks. Data rate DOES make a difference, but I'd say your real problem has more to do with the fact that you're working on a Powerbook. Motion's real time capabilities derive from the capability of the video card. Not the processor. Some cards do better than others, but laptops are not even recommended for running Motion.
To improve your workflow on a laptop will be limited, but there are a few things that you can try.
Make sure that thumbnails and previews are turned off.
Make sure that you are operating in Draft Mode.
Lower the display resolution to half, or quarter.
Don't expect to be getting real time playback. Treat it more like After Effects.
Compressing your clips into smaller Animations does help because it lowers the data rate, but you're still dealing with the animation codec which is a high data rate codec. Unfortunately, it sounds necessary in your case because you're dealing with alpha channels.
The data rate comes into play with your setup trying to play through your USB drive. USB drives are never recommended for editing or Motion work. Their throughput is not consistent enough for video work. a small FW drive would be better, though your real problem as I said is the Powerbook.
If you must work on the powerbook, then don't expect real-time playback. Instead, build your animation, step through it, and do RAM previews to view sections in real time.

Have an old MBP. Just installed lion on it today. Previously, the computer had no password (at login, I would just hit enter so essentially the password was nothing). After installing Lion, that no longer works, and now I can't get into my computer. Help!

It's not uncommon for some people to have a "blank" password, I did that for years. Apparently Lion has a problem with blank passwords.

Have you tried pressing enter with no password entered?
Your computer should have a recovery partition built in that you can access outside of Windows. The steps to access the partition generally depend on the MFG of the computer.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.

Keyboard found/working - but can't get into setup in system preferences

Hi,
I've had the Apple Wireless Bluetooth Keyboard (the flat aluminum one) for about a year. It works great, but recently want to see if I could modify some keys.
Wen into System Preferences, clicked "Set Up Bluetooth Keyboard" and it just searches for the keyboard forever, but never finds it.
Weird thing is if I go into bluetooth pref pane keyboard is there and paired, and as I say works fine. I don't know if I can re-map any soft keys / function keys with this keyboard (because I can't get into prefs) but I would like to find out!

Take a look at Apple's document for authorizations -> iTunes Store: About authorization and deauthorization.
You can deauthorize all computers from iTunes. All you have to do is click iTunes Store, click your account name in the upper right corner of iTunes, then deauthorize all.

TS3048 My keyboard will connect wirelessly but my mouse will not. I've put new batteries in the mouse and the green light is blinking but it just won't connect!!! I don't have a 'wired' mouse so I can't get into preferences etc!!! Pls help

My keyboard will connect wirelessly but my mouse will not. I have tried many times, put new batteries in etc. The Bluetooth appears to be on (as the wireless keyboard is working). I don't have a 'wired' mouse so I can't get into preferences etc. Is the mouse dead perhaps? The green light is flickering so it should be ok???

From what you say I would suggest the batteries are not connecting properly.
First, thoroughly clean all contacts, both inside the mouse and the contact points of the batteries. Use an alcohol based cleaner (whisky will do, hic!) dampen (not wet) cotton buds for cleaning.
Then check to see if they fit firmly. If you can shake your mouse and hear things are loose, that will be the batteries. Check the make. Apple and Duracell, in that order, are the best batteries. Where slight undersizing has been reported they are with other than the foregoing.
You can resolve the size problem with appropriate packing but that will always be a makeshift solution. After, reassemble, turn on the mouse and with luck, away you go.
Hopefully this will solve your problem but in any case let us know how you get on.
