Keyboard issue I have a iMac thats about 4 years old, and now the keyboard is not working properly. some keys do not work. Any suggestions ?

I think I may have a virus! My keyboard is not working properly. When I press the zero key, it doesn't appear. Other keys that do not work include the directional keys, delete key, and others. I tried everything that I can think of to fix it, but nothing sesems to be working. Should I bring the keyboard and=/or the entire computer into my local Apple store+? see, the +? appears before the question mark, and I didn't put it there! Thanks!

No need to take the computer at this stage. Just take the keyboard into your local Apple store for examination. If you have another machine, not necessarily Apple, you could try the board on that or perhaps a friend's machine … they are largely universal.
You do not have a virus.

I am very disappointed with this iMac. It is only 18 months old and this will be the third visit to the workshop. I had expected more from Apple and from their repair agents. Luckily I have AppleCare.

How do I turn on my wireless keyboard and make it 'discoverable'? I got a message that the batteries were low, so I changed them for new ones and now the keyboard doesn't work.

Have you checked to make sure the batteries are inserted the correct way? Have you tried to turn it on by pushing the right upper (round) edge of the keyboard - if you do that, do you see a tiny little green light? Since you have a wired keyboard, can you get to the Bluetooth setup/preference pane so you can manually try to sync the keyboard?

If you can somehow document any processes you've put the MacBook
through, which can cause it to repeat the symptoms you've seen, be
sure to write down the sequence of events if your action and resulting
issues can be make re-occur. Then you'd have a fair chance at some
one looking deeper to find the real cause of this problem. {If you have
a digital camera handy, you can take a picture of the screen if it should
display some curious content other than a black screen, such as that
seen in a kernel panic or other message. Otherwise, a working Mac
can take its own screenshot.}
The computer should be returned to the Apple Store genius bar for
further evaluation & more in-depth diagnostic tests of long duration.
Sometimes a test may not run any of the additional software, together
or separately, that you may be accustomed to using. Perhaps the basic
OS X and a few applications work just fine.
If the issue is due to a conflict in software and not a hardware failure,
the cause may be harder to discover. If you have a complete backup
of the system and your files on an external drive, that may help if you
need to reinstall it. However if there is a problem in that software set
a new installation without conflicting software may be required in order
to troubleshoot the machine.
How old is the computer, how much RAM installed, how large a hard
disk drive and what is the remaining unused capacity of that drive?
(The HDD capacity will show 'other' so that may be unsubstantiated.)
Are there any indications in Activity Monitor, or in the system log files
from Console, to show crash logs or other effects from the Time/Date
of these slow wakeup and black-screen intervals? There may be.
Some of the system report may be helpful to those who know how to
read the resulting mass of files. Perhaps one of the more advanced
users who occasionally reply here will see your thread and offer a
method of accessing the OS X via Terminal or single user mode,
for troubleshooting purposes. Mine is an older OS X with less fuss.

That is becuase Pages 5.1 has numerous unnounced surprises for the unwary user. Among the surprises:
- it strips out images from headers and footers without warning
- it strips out bookmarks without wanring (yes, all those bookamrks you laboriously put into a document: poof! Gone.)
- it strips out alternating left/right margins, without warning.
There are many more suprises, as you'll see from glancing through these discussions. They fall into two main categories: things that are present in version 4.3 but that are missing in 5.1, things like
-mail merge
-meaningful Applescript/Services support
-non-contiguous text selection
-ability to set defaul zoom
-ability to see comments while editing
-ability to print comments
-ability to read RTF files
-ability to drag in hyperlinked ted from a browser
These about about 90 other features are gone.
Then there are the bugs. Hyperlinks do not reliably export to a PDF file any longer. There have been multiple problems with printing report. Some fonts place stray characters in the headers. Many reports of the program crashing, courrupting files, etc.
Fortunately for you, the previous version of Pages is still on your system. Export any documents you may have created or edited with Pages 5.1 (another great surprise: files created with version 5.1 cannot be read by any previous version of Pages: not just 4.3 but even 5.01!). Then trash 5.1 and use 4.3 until (unless?) it is stable and has a reasonably robust feature set.

You need to update to AE version 11.0.4 (the latest version of CS6).
The need to update has been made widely public. Not only has it been posted on Adobe's site, but there are dozens of threads on it in this forum alone (not to mention in /r/AfterEffects on Reddit and every other AE forum I've been on). A tiny bit of Googling would have solved your frustration in an instant.

Seriously, I suggest you call your local Apple Store and make an appointment to have them check out exactly how much damage the wine did to your MBP.

Whether or not you are able to recover the data off the drive yourself will depend on if the drive suffered any impact damage in the crash. You can buy USB SATA or IDE adapters (Intel and almost all G5 use SATA) that will let you connect your hard drive to a computer (like a flash drive) to see if you can recover the data. If the drive has suffered physical damage if may not mount.
If you know someone who has one of these adapters you could try using theirs, otherwise you could buy one but you take the risk of the data on the drive being non recoverable. Regardless, both are much cheaper than $1699!
(Alternatively, if you know of someone with a Mac Pro or PowerMac G5 they may be able to install the drive in their machine and try to boot from or mount it and copy the data off.)

                 Hard reset
1. Press and Hold power button till the laptop turns off (5-7 sec approx).
            2. Then unplug the AC adaptor.
            3. Turn the laptop upside down.
            4. Then remove battery.
            5. Then press and hold the power button for 2 minutes (to remove static electricity).
            6. Then, put the battery back in the notebook and plug in AC adaptor and turn on the laptop.
Re-installing battery drivers:
1. Click Start and type device in the search field, then select Device Manager .
2. Click on + sign beside the Keyboard category.
3. Under the Keyboard category, right-click the Microsoft ps1/ps2 driver, and select Uninstall.
Note: Do not remove the Microsoft AC Adapter driver or any other ACPI compliant driver.
4. On the Device Manager taskbar, click Scan for hardware changes.

Thank you for visiting the HP Support Forums and Welcome. I have read your thread on your HP Notebook and the shift keys not working correctly. I find that in most cases a keyboard that stops responding or some keys don't work is generally a keyboard is stuck cleaning might be the only option. Here is a document on how to clean the keyboard.
If a small vacuum cleaner with a brush attachment is available, use it to clear the keyboard of debris. A can of compressed air can be used to blow out particles that get in between the keys. I would be happy to assist if needed. How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

okay so , my ipod is about two years old and went through the washer and dryer. no one has used it for two years because no one ever took the time to fix it, until now when my previous ipod cracked and barley works now. So i took it upon my time to fix this washed ipod and i have been able to successfully restore it and , backup, and restore backup. i have also reset the network settings, and still my wifi is dimmed out and wont let me switch it on, i have read the apple websites resolution to this problem and i have tried it and they do not seem to work as my wifi is still DIMMED out. I would like to switch over to this one because my cracked one is hard to use, but in order for me to use this one it would be very nice to have wifi so i could download apps, and when i restored and reset the ipod to act like a new one, it wont even let me sign in to my apple id because i do not have Internet, now the funny part is my wifi is working fine for my 5 family members and their phones/android tablets, i am the only one who has an apple device. please right back!!! thanks!

Several ways. Open a Finder window & the info will be at the very bottom of the window frame. Also, if you open Disk Utility, click your hard drive, the info will be listed in DU. If your HD is shown on your desktop, click on it. Also, the info can be found inside the System Profiler.

In the last week I have found that in both Yahoo and Gmail I am unable to attach files using drag and drop; I have not used drag and drop for a little while so I cannot say that it begun with a particular Firefox update. Unlike some users of FF16 I have no problem dragging tabs around in the browser. I know in the past certain issues with attachments have evidently been related to the browser and hence the reason I consider such a link now. I am using Windows XP SP3.

Thanks for your response, but remembering the cause of a previous attachent problem that many Firefox users were having at around the time of FF13 related to the network.http.spdy.enabled setting to 'true' I decided to check that setting again in about:config.
To fix my problem at the time I, like others, changed the SPDY setting from 'true' to 'false' and this I found had not been automatically changed with later versions of FF. I did find, however, that there were now two other SPDY settings for v2 and v3, which were set to 'true'. In case these were conflicting with the first setting on 'false' I changed this latter to 'true' also. This done I returned to Gmail and tried to attach some files, firstly in the normal way by clicking on attachments and selecting a file from the dialogue box, which worked (previously on 'true' this had not worked); secondly, I tried attaching using drag & drop, which now worked. I also found that drag & drop worked in Yahoo too.
So, could a conflict between the SPDY versions have been the cause of the problem when network.http.spdy.enabled was set to 'false'?
If the problem occurs again I will let you know. (I have attached a snapshot of the current settings.)

I am wondering if you can actually restore the notes that were lot I really don't know how to restore them and don't want tem to get lot further into the system. Can you help me because I have 256 subjects that I'm studying and now all my notes are gone.

I upgraded my imac to OS Mountain Lion and now the Seagate Goflex external HDD is not recognised

I upgraded the iMac to Mountain Lion and it does not recognize the Seagate Goflex External HDD that I was working from earlier. I do not want to buy a special program since the Goflex HDD was working on both mac and Windows without any problems before the upgrade. The Goflex HDD is still working on my Macbook pro so there is no problem in the HDD. Is there something that needs to be activated... Please help

A bit more info for those of you reading this.... the problem seemed to be in iTunes. For each connected device , if I clicked on the Photo option I could no longer select the second radio button for limiting the photos by Events, Albums, etc. It was an all or nothing deal. But selecting all would cause the error.
So I had read the other forum posts about the "&" symbol being the cause of the problem. I went through iPhoto and made all of the changes. It did not work. I then looked at iTunes, using the AlbumData2.xml file listed in the other forums as a reference. I found one album with the "&". I edited that one. Still would not work. So then I spent 3 hours on the phone with AppleCare last week. I talked with 4 different advisors. None of them had heard about the "&" error from the forums. We tried everything in iPhoto including repair and rebuild. Finally we created a whole new library and reimported my master photos from my original one. Using this option would allow me to now check off that radio button in iTunes. BUT... I now lost all of my albums and events and would need to rebuid them. I was not happy. They agreed and we set up time to talk this week.
So today I talked with AppleCare again. They now have more info and said the problem has to do with iTunes and the new iPhoto 9.4. It does not like the "&" symbol anywhere in either iPhoto or iTunes. So they now have me going through everything in my iTunes library. Genre is OK but any other item cannot have " & ". I have several dozen to edit and will do it over the weekend and then restore my original iPhoto Library and see if I can finally get it all to sync. I will let you know how I make out, but apparently you need to eliminate " & " from every entry in iTunes and iPhoto.
Quality control is not up to par with Apple these days.

Less than a year old and now a MAJOR issue

I'm new to Mac and although being a 40yo I do not see that as a bad thing, wisdom after all comes later in life
My life is now filled with everything Mac, iPad, iPhone and my pride and joy the 27" iMac (I also have one at work that was purchased on the same day).....anyhow...I digress.....
On Wednesday this week I went home switch on my iMac to listen to my music, mess with a few photos for a book I want to create etc etc....and the iMac just sat there with it's little cog turning......and I left it for an hour......realising that something is obviously wrong I made a start on investigating what and how I could sort it (for my sins I am an IT Manager/Senior Tech) got the iMac started up in single user mode ran a few command lines and quickly realised that the HDD was corrupted.......I have Time Machine....not quite as up to date as I'd like....but definitely 99.5% up to date........
So.....I went about rebuilding the iMac, stuck the disk in that came with it, ran disk utility, repaired the disk and then rebuilt back to 'new machine' ran updates and then restored from the time machine........all appeared to be ok.....it's not.........
I have run the disk utility and it is still reporting some corruption.....doesn't give me the option to repair..... then sometimes I switch it on....it thinks about it and then comes up with 'you need to reboot' in a number of different languages....I reboot......seems ok......hook up my iPad to sync......comes up with errors about unable to sync...authorisation blah blah blah (I have reauthorised and reauthorised)
Needles to say I am GUTTED......in all the years I have worked with and had PCs this happened to me once.........I was informed that iMacs were a lot more stable than PCs and now this happens.......it so happens that I bought this 10 months ago so I am assuming that this is a return to base warranty job.......unless anyone else has anoy suggestions????

Thanks SNKHAN, advice and support truly appreciated. I've just nipped home from work to get the serial number as I'm about to get the extended warranty and booted the iMac with the supplied OS disk, ran disk utility, verified disk and it came up with Macintosh HD is corrupted blah blah.....exited from the disk utility and opened it back up again and then ran repair (again)......
it looks like like it's sorted as it came up with 'The volume Macintosh HD appears to be ok' ....which is definitely different (and better) than the message I was getting last night when I tried (and gave up in frustration/sadness) .......so I've now left it installing the OS....and when I get home in a few hours it should be installed....I can then start to restore files from Time Machine
Still purchasing the extended warranty, at £125 it'll be the peace of mind.
Will let you know what happens over the weekend post build/file retore.
