Keyboard issue: touchscreen or software?

Hi there,
sometimes i just observed that qwerty keyboard is not responding correctly to the pressure of the fingers on the screen, more specific the part not working is on the down-right, the bottons "m", "n" and "back" to clear; for example when i press "back" button to clear "space" or simbol "point" is added. This is occupino sometimes and by switching offerte/on the phone the issue is fine, then sometimes appears again. I can't understant if it's a touchscreen problem or software issue, because most of the time when pressing on that part looks ok. Is someone have any hint or suggestioni to check?
Thanks and br /xpsonpao

Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
That sounds quite odd. Do you have a 3rd party screen protector on the display?
I would suggest that you try to boot your phone into safe mode to see if the problem may be related to any 3rd party app that you have installed in your phone:
http://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/FAQ/How-to-boot-your-phone-into-safe-mode/m-p/348008#U348008
If the behavior persists in safe mode I suggest that you try to repair the phone software using PC Companion:
http://www.sonymobile.com/update
In PC Companion, press start on Support Zone > Start on Update the phone/tablet software > Press the blue link that says "Repair phone/tablet".
Before repairing the software in your device you may want to backup your information first. Check out this topic for more information on how to:

  • Keyboard issues with Software

I have installed Archicad v10 (by Graphisoft) on my Powerbook and desktop G5. The CADD software utilizes the SHIFT, OPTION and APPLE keys quite a bit for drafting functions and keyboard shortcuts. These keyes work fine on my desktop (using Max OS 10.4.8) but do not function on my Powerbook. They have identical Keyboard System Prefs and Software Defaults. Older versions of the Cadd software do work correctly. I have posted this same issue on the Graphisoft discussions page to try to get help in correcting this problem which no one else seems to have. Any suggestions as to what I can do to get these keyes to work correctly would be greatly appreciated.

Not answered. I did end up making a new user account and the keyboard short cuts worked in the new account.

  • Osx 10.6.8 m audio midi keyboard issue, not recognised

    hi
after updating the OS to the latest snow leopard i'm no longer able to use my midi keyboard (M-AUDIO Radium 61 usb powered)
i'm using an M-Audio fast track pro usb external audio device and when i plug the midi cable, coming from the keyboard, none of my softwares recognise it (Logic pro, Ableton, Reason).
the monitor led for the midi signal is flashing indicating that signal is received but no signal at all seems to be sent to the OS.
i initially thought it might have been the audio device driver: outdated for the running osx (audio ins and outputs where behaving correctly anyway) and did update it. No changes
i've also downloaded the latest keyboard's drivers (for osx 10.6.8 32bit), wich seemed superfluous to me since i'm using it via midi cable only, with no results.
Tried by repairing disk permissions as well in disk utility (just in case..)
tried my devices on a diffrent macbook installing an older version of snow leopard and they're doing theyr job properly
tried using a Midi to USB cable converter instead (was working on the other computer)
i don't have (i'm not sure at least) a backup for the previous osx upgrade to restore (is there a way to find out what version of the os is backed up within time machine?)
any help will be highly appreciated

  • MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2010 using Mac OS X 10.8 Keyboard Issues.

    Good day ASC,
I have a MacBook Pro 13-inch Mid 2010 upgraded to Mac OS X 10.8. It now has keyboard issues. Keys F4, 4, r, f, v, caps lock, space bar, and directional keys left and down do not work. I've been looking into the problem thinking it could be a software issue. Can anyone help?

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You need to install the Windows support software in Windows to make it run properly. You have to download and install these drivers in Windows > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
After installing them, I recommend you to look for a newer GPU driver

  • Anything new with keyboard issues in XP

read alot of posts but doesnt appaer to be anything new on keyboard issues in XP. works for awhile then nothing.mouse does work. i dont have an old keyboard around i can use. was hoping it was something to do with XP settings.
    any word ?

I seemed to have the same issues other people were reporting: USB keyboard would disconnect every five minutes or so, would sometimes re-connect by itself, would other times freeze and require re-plugging. The mouse would usually keep working even when plugged into keyboard. This would happen on all USB ports. It was most noticeable in Windows (through Boot Camp and through Parallels), but it would also happen less noticeably in OS X. In OS X, it would often recover without re-plugging, but errors would show up in the Console logs. It seemed to get worse the longer my computer was on.
Turned out, for me at least, to be a faulty keyboard. Although I tested the keyboard on another computer and it was fine, on the Intel iMac it had the disconnection problem. I repaired permissions, verified the disk, reset PRAM, restarted in Safe Boot, but nothing helped.
I called Apple about it. They replaced the keyboard under warranty, and since then (about two weeks) the problem has not occured once, in OS X or in Windows.
If you haven't done so already, I recommend thorough troubleshooting. Disconnect all other peripherals other than the mouse and monitor your logs in OS X (open Console under Utilities) to see if USB errors come up. Boot into in Safe Boot mode by pressing Shift on start-up. If the error still comes up in OS X, as it did in my case, then you have a valid problem you can call Apple about. If it happens only in Windows, unfortunately it might be harder to make a case since Boot Camp is beta software. When you call Apple you can desscribe all the testing you already did.
    (are you still under warranty?)

  • MacBook Pro 10.4.11 keyboard issue (beaten path??)

When my MacBook Pro starts up or wakes up, some keys, specifically q,w,e,r,t,y,u,i,o, and the left Shift key, don't respond. The duration of the problem is quite unpredictable; a few minutes to maybe up to 30 minutes. If I wait long enough they become responsive eventually. When I bought it in 2007 I didn't have this problem. I think it started ~1 year after the purchase.
From googling I found out that many MacBook Pro owners were having similar problems. These are mostly with version 10.5 and many people seem to agree that this is a Leopard-specific issue, but I've also seen a few people complaining about similar keyboard issues with 10.4. I also found out that Apple released some sort of a keyboard software update to fix these problems. However, that update requires 10.5, and mine is 10.4.11.
This week I finally took my computer to the Apple store and showed it to a 'Genius'. He said he was not familiar with this problem, and when I mentioned the keyboard software update, he hooked up some sort of cable and ran 10.5 on my computer, but the computer in that state didn't find any keyboard updates (at least that's how I understood his explanation). Therefore, he concluded that this is a hardware problem and that the machine needs a repair.
Now, I don't question the Genius' superior knowledge to mine, but I still can not believe it's not a software problem. If it is hardware problem, how come it occurs always/only after the computer wakes up? Is it coincidence that the symptom is so similar to the known software problem?

I'm having a similar problem although I am not trying to upgrade my version. Certain keys don't work on the built-in keyboard: delete, space bar, caps lock, quotes-apostrophe key...I have to use the "keyboard viewer" to use these particular keys. My adapter is connected to the computer, but the problem persists.
Can anyone please suggest troubleshooting for this annoying problem? It has been like this for about 2 weeks now.
    Any suggestions will be appreciated!

use the above software to do a test on the keyboard to determine whether it is hardware or software issue.

  • More Keyboard issues...

    Hi -
I used a USB aluminum keyboard for past year and loved it....but decided to try the wireless one instead and passed on the USB keyboard to a co-worker
Like many others I was having issues with function keys with a new bluetooth keyboard.
I updated software, etc, etc and eventually got the keybaord doing what I wanted
BUT -I didn't like the keyboard... I missed my number pad on the right and it was just too small for me.
SO- I went back to Apple store and bought a good old USB aluminum keyboard -BUT now the function keys on that are all screwy! The same type of keyboard was working great 1 week ago! (specifically the function volume keys don't work, the brightness keys, etc)
I have tried vairious fixes that were suggested in this forum ...no avail
I am curious if anyone else has found a fix?

  • Keyboard issues in Windows 7 mode

I installed Windows 7 Professional 64bit on my MacPro (late 2008) on a secondary drive. Everything seem to run fine, however I have encountered an issue with keyboard when running a particular software it doesn't respond correctly. The same software with the same settings and the same layout works fine on regular PC running Windows 7.
I contacted support for the software with an issue and they logged on remotely on my computer and didn't have any issues with unresponsive keyboard.
I tried switching to a different keyboard and no results.
    Any ideas?

    Solved it.
It was this little thing running in the background in my Windows7, had to disable it in the start up menu. It's called 'GID Desktop Application'. It's somehow was 'screwing' with keyboard in that particular software.
I was looking trough the 'logs' and noticed a repeating error, researched the details and found out that that was it.

  • New MBP = Goofy Display Wake + Keyboard Issues???

I would like to know if anyone has had the time to try a new MBP out to see if the new Intel Chipset helps with any of the issues that the last MBP's have.
Mainly, if the new chipset fixes some of the wake issues that people have been having, or the keyboard issues where the first character is missed when typing.
Has anyone had a chance to test this out yet?
(I realize that I am jumping the gun a little, but I am really curious)

Do the new (Feb 2008) Macbook Pro models have embedded numeric keypads, along with home/end/page (up/down) arrow-key labels? Have the numeric keypads and arrow-labels been removed, as has recently happened to the Macbook line? Apple's "Design" page for the Feb. 2008 Pro doesn't give a clear answer -- it has some photos of Pro keyboards that include an embedded keypad and home/end/page (up,down) labels, but also includes several photos of Pro keyboards without these.
If the embedded keypad is indeed gone: _poor move, Apple_.
PLEASE put this back on the Pro machines, and soon!
Here's why: Actual "pros" (e.g. advanced tech- oriented users) are much more likely to require the numeric keypad for a range of uses, both in much OS X software (from advanced image and video software to Apple's own keypad mouse control) plus in the Boot Camp world of PC software including non-intuitive PC-style 3-digit alt-character entry. Heck, embedded keypad could have even then been pointed to as a newly differentiating feature of the Macbook Pro line.
There can of course be some software remedy -- but hardware change is the only way to really restore to easiest use, getting the symbols on the keyboard caps. Users should not be expected to memorize these; the embedded keypad may go unused by a user for a straight year, but then need to use OS X or PC software for which the numeric keypad is the only way to perform certain functions.
    Apple: can you
    1) Put back numeric keypad and arrow-key labels

  • T43/port replicator & keyboard issues

Over the past 2 months I have been batteling this issue with 4, T43s and port replicators (i refer to these as docks; it is in fact a port replicator):
When the laptop is shutdown and undocked, when they return to dock, and powered on, the keyboard and mouse (external) will NOT work. The keyboard and mouse on the laptop do not work either; however the Fn+ keys work (i.e I can turn on the keyboard light, adjust brightness, etc) and the power button works.  We use the power button to start a shutdown, and try again.  After 2 or 3 reboots everything is fine.
We have enough patterns to leads us several different directions, the most recent to the BIOS.
I believe on the 4 that are having problems, I installed the most recent BIOS and embedded controller updates while the laptop was docked.  Could this cause such issues?  Is there a way to force a re-install of the BIOS?  I try to apply the BIOS again and it exits as the installed version is current.
    Setup:
    Windows XP Pro SP3
All the newest ThinkVantage software and drivers (repeatable issue without the software present)
    McAffe Endpoint Encryption (Safeboot)
    Windows security profile: securews.inf
I have enough reason to believe it is something in regards to the network as well, however I want to rule this possibilitity out completely.  With that said, why would the keyboard detection failed during startup if there is a netowrk issue? More on that later if it turns out this isn't the culprit.

How did you do this?  I dont see an option for changing the port in the Control Panel -> Sound ->Playback menu.
Ive been to many other blogs and threads and your the only who may have found the solution.
    thanks

  • 10.4.3 External Keyboard Issue

    Greetings,
I seem to be having an external keyboard issue. To give some background, I am on a fresh install of OSX, completely patched up to 10.4.3 via software update. I just purchased an Apple USB Keyboard and after plugging in the keyboard I noticed something funny with the keyboard layout. The HOME key doesn't work and the END key is page down, plus delete doesn't work at all. I tried plugging in this keyboard to my PC and it works beautifully.
Now I believe this issue is being caused by the iBook using the cramped keyboard layout and not the full key layout of the external one I just installed. Every piece of help information I find on the subject either points me to menu options that don't exist (my Keyboard & Mouse -> Keyboard menu is quite clean with only 3 options to adjust typing speed) and some of the topics on these forums don't seem to cover it, any suggestions?

Apple iBook G$ 1.33GHZ   Mac OS X (10.4.3)   Apple USB Keyboard

I just installed the 10.4.3 combo update and still no effect on the keyboard. A few help topics I found on this issue point me to changing the keyboard layout in international, but that isn't working at all. Some of the keyboard & mouse options the other help documents point to are missing as well. I have only 4 options for the keyboard options pane and none of them are about configuring an external keyboard so something must be wrong here.
I checked all the keys and it appears the iBook is recognizing the keyboard, however instead of modifying the input layout of the keyboard to the full size of the keyboard, it is applying the same key shortcuts that are on the iBook 12". So this means forward delete doesn't work, home and end are the same as page up and down. When I use control and any of the arrow keys I get the iBook key layout shortcuts such as page up/down and home/end.
Somewhere, I hope there is some kind of driver I can install to force the iBook to change the keyboard layout on my apple keyboard to a regular one instead of a shortcut version on the iBook.

  • Dv5-1000us Pavilion keyboard issue

I've been using the keyboard on my dv5-1000us (dv5t) with no problems at all for nearly 4 years... until yesterday when suddenly I found the WinKey no longer functions.  It's completely dead, yet it was working fine the day before (I know it worked, as I use WinKey+M often to minimize all windows).  The keyboard has not been subjected to liquids or impacts.  The adjacent keys (fn and alt) are fine.  All other keys on the keyboard work, except for this one.
OK, the first rule in trouble shooting is to work top down.  Is the issue based in software or hardware?  Well, I have two hard drives with two different Windows installations, so I booted off of my alternate drive and discovered the same problem.  OK, so that rules out software.
Luckily I have a spare keyboard (I bought it used and cheap, as a "just in case"... sure paid off) and installed it.  The WinKey WORKS on the replacement.  So, there's some kind of hardware fault.
The reason I'm posting this is because I'm perplexed by this fault and wondering:
Has anybody else ever reported a single key failing on an HP Pavilion keyboard?
Is there a known reason for this, like carbon build up or a bent contact?
Given the known faults, are any of them correctable or is the key switch design such that it's not repairable?
    Thanks!
"If you keep an open mind, life will give you more possibilities."

Yes I have seen failure of a single key. Admittedly rare, but it happens. You have ably ruled out all other options other than a bad keyboard. How does it happen? It is electronics and inhabited by gremlins is as good an explanation as any.

  • Equium A60-692 with XP - keyboard issue

Since my last post 19 Feb I've spoke to lots of people about this problem but still no solution. Problem is......
When I switch on my laptop and it has booted up the keyboard will not operate and if I then restart the laptop it will shut down and reboot ... then every thing will work perfectly!!!!!!!
I've used the recovery disc, but had to get it loaded on the reboot as I couldn't load it on the first boot as there is no response from the keyboard.
Someone suggested I update the Bios which I had a go at, but not very sure I was successful with that.
This problem has been ongoing for sometime, and some recommended that I just live with it.
I have a feeling that it is a software problem and could be fixed.
If it is a hardware problem it may cost me more than the thing is worth.
Can anybody help save my sanity and throw any light on the problem?
    PLEASE

    Hi
I believe its a hardware (keyboard) issue and its advisable to test a new keyboard.
In such case the ASP should install new keyboard and should check the functionality...

  • Hp envy 14. Keyboard issues.

    hey all,
ive been having an issue with my hp envy 14, with windows 7.  This forum seemed the most relevent, as its a keyboard issue.
So whenever I turn my laptop on the keyboard is non-functional, so I turn it on with alt f5 I believe, this gets the key board functional, I can at this point type in my user password. Next as I type in my password, the capslock button has reversed itself, so when my keyboard shows caps on, caps is off and vice versa. Also, sometimes when im using my computer, it switches between recognizing caps is on or not.
I recently wiped the laptop, so I believe the issue to be internal.
This is frustrating to put it lightly, any help appreciated.
