Keyboard keys and shortcut repeating

Hi guys, on my macbook pro (probably 1.5 year's old) I'm having a very annoying issue. Quite often, usually when I type quickly, the key get stuck and keeps repeating, this happens also with short-cuts. I thought it was an hardware issue but it happens also with an external keyboard. I looked around and it seems there is no firmware or update I can install on my machine which accordingly to Software Update is up to date.
I read somewhere, unfortunately I don't remember where, that the problem happened after having install some virtualization software. Unfortunately this is a company computer and I'm not aware about all its software history but the only virtualization software I installed and it is present at the moment is VirtualBox.
Any idea how I could sort this out?
Thanks a lot, chr

Best bet is an Apple Authorized repair shop or a reseller. There is no indication at Apple's website that they sell parts directly.

  • Hot-keys and shortcut keys

    Dear
    I received the question below and I'm not sure about the answer:
    Does the solution makes consistent use of function keys, hot-keys and short-cut keys across all modules and components?
    Thanks and Best Regards

    The answer is yes.
    The question would be what hot-keys, etc. do you mean. I am aware only of Ctrl + Shift + F5, but I think there are few more. Alternatively, a component could add something - this could be dependent on the author of the component.

  • DropDown by Key and Row Repeater

    Hello,
    I 've build a form inside a rowrepeater, inside the form there are several empty drop down by key.
    The key value table of each dropdown by key belong to the selected country grouping (an input field with search help inside the form).
    OnEnter event of the molga field, I call a BL to fill the key value table and get the index of the form (regarding to the dataprovider of my row repeater).
    Here is the structure of my context:
    CONTEXT _
                     |_CTX_COLL (0:N)
                                  |_CTX_DROPDOWN (1:1)
    * --- GET MOLGA --- *
    * navigate from <CONTEXT> to <CTX_COLL> via lead selection
      lo_nd_ctx_coll = wd_context->get_child_node( name = wd_this->wdctx_ctx_coll ).
      lo_nd_ctx_coll->get_static_attributes_table( importing table = lt_ctx_coll ).
      read table lt_ctx_coll into ls_ctx_coll index iv_index.
      lv_molga = ls_ctx_coll-country.
    * --- GET DROPDOWN NODE INDEX REFERENCE --- *
      lv_idx_str = iv_index.
      concatenate 'CTX_COLL.'
                  lv_idx_str
                  '.CTX_DROPDOWN' into lv_path.
      condense lv_path no-gaps.
    * navigate from <CONTEXT> to <CTX_DROPDOWN> via index selection
      lo_nd_ctx_dropdown = wd_context->path_get_node( path = lv_path ).
      lr_node_info = lo_nd_ctx_dropdown->get_node_info( ).
    * --- SET DROPDOWN --- *
      lt_value_set = wd_assist->get_priority( lv_molga ).
    * set values (table) to context attribute
      lr_node_info->set_attribute_value_set(
       name = `PRIORITY`
       value_set = lt_value_set

    well ehrr
    I see two completely different implementations
    the context dropdown must be used with a drop down by INDEX
    the value set must be used wth a dropdown by KEY
    as you have a ddk, it uses the value set
    furthermore, you set the value set on the dropdown context
    try the index one
    I'm not sure what you are trying to do, but try the following option
    you have a node in which your dropdown field resides
    make a subnode with the values for that field
    fill the subnode depending on the selected country (don't forget to invalidate the node when the country changes)
    bind a ddi to the dropdown values in the node
    the value set is defined on node level, not on element level
    so setting a different value set per element won't work i'm afraid
    correct me if i'm rong

  • Photohop CS6 Update to 13.0.2 breaks keyboard input and shortcuts

    Hi,
    I just got the new update to 13.0.2 and after installing it Photoshop doesn't recognize keyboard input as expected? Shortcuts are not working anymore. Input values are not recognized. Text editing not possible anymore. etc.
    And: When I start Photoshop I get the following trial info:
    Master Collection trial. 32767 DAYS REMAINING
    Thats over 89 years –  I can live with that. ;-)
    But there is something wrong with that update, that makes it impossible to continue my work.
    Regards
    PS: Is it possible to uninstall this update or do I have to uninstall Photoshop at all?

    Thank you for the quick answer.
    Sytem Info tells me …
    Optional and third party plug-ins:
       Interpolate CS6 (13.0) ©1993-2012 Adobe Systems Incorporated - from the file “Interpolate.plugin”
       Match Edges CS6 (13.0) ©1993-2012 Adobe Systems Incorporated - from the file “Interpolate.plugin”
    Plug-ins that failed to load: NONE
    Flash:
       Mini Bridge
       Kuler
    Installed TWAIN devices: NONE
    In the meantime I did a system restart and several Photoshop restarts. Finally some weirdness is gone. Trial mode seems to be gone and Photoshop seems to be activated again.
    Two thing left:
    1. I do have a text element, for instance, thats acting weird. The screenshot shows two "Login" text items with exactly the same settings for font and size. But they are displayed differently.
    Easy fix: delete the weirdo and create a new one. But still worth mentioning, I think.
    2. One of my favorite shortcuts is gone. cmd+alt+0 (num pad) to set zoom to 100%
    Easy fix: set the shortcut again via Edit > Keyboard shortcuts …
    Sorry for panicking, but I was really worried to lose the day looking at installers. ;-)

  • Mac mini won't boot up on OSX even after all keyboard commands and shortcuts.

    Hi. I installed windows 7 using bootcamp on my mac. Windows installed successfully but I had to reformat its designated partition to NTFS (20GB which I allocated). But now I can't seem to run OSX even after doing Cmd.   R, Option, C, etc. still Windows boot everytime. Anyone know how I can fix this problem before I submit the computer for professional service? Thanks.

    Usually means you may have also formatted your OS X partition or RDB with the Windows formatter. You might try this:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    If the above doesn't help any then you are looking at having to reformat your OS X partition.

  • Keyboard Keys and Key Code values

    Below is my code that zooms into a map when the user presses
    the SPACE bar. I want to change the SPACE bar to the + key. However
    the Key command seems to only have code hints for some keys (ie.
    SPACE, ENTER, LEFT, RIGHT etc).
    Does anyone know how I can change the action to zoom in using
    the + key. Hopefuly there is not a lot of code changes to make this
    happen.
    if(Key.isDown(Key.SPACE)){
    var cent = {x:m._x+m._width/2,y:m._y+m._height/2};
    var p = {x:m._x+m._width/2,y:m._y+m._height/2};
    _root.localToGlobal(p);
    map.globalToLocal(p);
    map._xscale += 50;
    map._yscale += 50;
    updateButtons();
    }

  • Tabs and shortcuts

    Why do my 'tab' key and shortcuts not work properly in Mavericks?

    Thanks for the reply.  End users are alkmsot always more helpful than the professionals.  I apologize for not specifiying...I just made the assumption that it is clear that the failures are in all apllications.  I use Pages and numbers a lot, so I make up shortuts for long and repetive phrases in Pages, for my email address, for Safari searches and so on that used to work in all applications.
    Mavericks has reassigned my previous shortcuts.  That's fine. I don't mind because the new assignments are improvements for all users in general.  What is frustrating me is that: Apple > System Preferences > keyboard > shortcuts will let me go through the motions of setting up new shortcuts but when I try to use them in Pages or Safari there is no response
    Re tab key:  within a table in Pages, pressing the tab key does not advance from the cell just finished.  By pressing the shift plus tab (tab backwards) the cursor will go to the previous cell and then tab twice will bring you to the cell folowing the one just finished.
    I have been trying to work with Mavericks for two weeks, many hours working on this,  and all the help files have not changed one iota from Mountain Lion.
    I am still hoping to find the fix, or alternatively, a help file that is focused on Maveicks as distinct from OS X in general.

  • Extra keyboard keys not detected

    How do I get them working?
    I read Extra Keyboard Keys and tried:
    # showkey --scancodes
    but that doesn't produce any (for those extra keys) output either.
    I had them working a while ago, except .. that was Windows (XP).

  • Differentiate between shortcut keys Alpha (keyboard) Enter and Number Pad (10 key) Enter

    I need to be able to differentiate between the Keyboard enter and the 10 key enter (see image below) using a shortcut key in Captivate and/or Flash. These keys are used for two different reasons in the application that I am creating a simulation for.  Using ENTER allows the learner to use either key to continue with the simulation. I would like to force use of each of these keys differently.

    Hi Rastapote, and welcome to the HP Support Forums!
    I understand that you are having a problem with the numeric keypad on your HP Compaq 6830s Notebook PC. This is a business Notebook and you would get the best answer to your question on the HP Enterprise Business Community forum as they deal with the Business products.
    I hope this information helps.
    Have a great day!

    Nope, I doubt it.  As I said:
    I disabled Aero theme, checked font scaling was 100% and rebooted Windows in between all of the steps to no avail.
    I've been reading a lot around this and it seems the arrow key problem is a red herring; I think it's just some kind of terminal preferences corruption.

  • Bluetooth keyboard K810 and mouse T630 at the same time, repeating keys and mouse starts to stutter

    I use a Lenovo Thinkpad Tablet 2, Windows 8.1(core edition), x86 (32bit).
    If I pair a Bluetooth keyboard K810 and mouse T630 at the same time, with Wifi On, the keyboard starts repeating the keys and the mouse starts to stutter. Especially if WiFi is under load (when downloading something).
    This doesn’t happens if I pair only the keyboard, or if I pair mouse and keyboard with Wifi OFF.
    If I pair a Bluetooth keyboard and use a USB mouse with Wifi ON, everything works fine.
    If I pair a Bluetooth mouse and use a USB keyboard with Wifi ON, everything works fine.
    I think it is an issue with two Bluetooth devices paired at the same time with Wifi ON.
    So here is a summary:
    BT mouse and BT keyboard / Wifi ON ----> repeating chars and the mouse starts to stutter (bug)
    BT mouse and BT keyboard / Wifi OFF ----> works fine
    Only BT keyboard / Wifi ON ----> works fine
    Only BT mouse / Wifi ON ----> works fine
    USB mouse and BT keyboard / Wifi ON ----> works fine
    USB keyboard and BT mouse / Wifi ON ----> works fine
    Where is the problem? Is there any solution?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    I have solved the problem. In the Wlan-Drives-Settings there is the "Bluetooth Collaboration" option. I put the value to "Disable" and now works everything like charm.
    Best regards, jC
    Broadcom manual:
    Bluetooth Collaboration
    Bluetooth Collaboration enables general purpose input/output transmit suppression protocol between the IEEE 802.11 media access control (MAC) and an external Bluetooth chip to minimize transmit interference. Bluetooth Collaboration is enabled by default.

  • My arrow keys start start repeating without touching them and a string of periods are displayed in an entry field (e.g. credential to log in). Or if I type an arrow key, they immediately start repeating in perpituity. It's like a ghost in the machine.

    After the last OS X update (a security update I think), two things happened:
    my iMac would not boot (gray screen) or if it did boot, the mouse wasn't recognized and I couldn't mouse to the PW field to log in - nor did tabbing or any keystrokes get me there. I fixed this by unpludding peripherals (back up drive), but know I can't boot unless they are unplugged and it makes using TimeMachine a pain in the arse.
    My wired, extended mac keyboard now types without me, primarily, as far as I can tell, the arrow key(s). .................................... So, for example, those periods you see here are because I touched the right arrow key and off it went until I pressed ESC. Also, sometimes they just start going off on their own. For example, I can be in sleep mode and all of a sudden the screen will wake and the PW field will start filling with periods, just like you see above. ***?
    Seriously, you would think that apple would have a response for this. I have searched their support site and NOTHING. I've seen some older threads on reseting certain things. Does anyone have any summer 2013 updates?
    Thank You!!!

    kaeandcolesmon,
    If you open the recovery drive (partition) it should only have a single folder (Recovery).
    To make sure that your not saving restore points to that drive.
    See:
    Start, Control Panel, System, System Protection tab. Make sure the D drive partition is set to OFF so that it does not save there.

  • S6000 external keyboard keys repeating

    I have the S6000 with the external keyboard and the keys tend to repeat most of the time, even with a single tap. Is there a setting that I am missing? The virtual keyboard works fine.

    I have found that my BT keyboard starts to repeat when it is low on charge. Charging it solves the problem.

  • My keyboard on macbook pro (laptop) is acting weird. One key is not responding at all. Have verified using Keyboard viewer and some other keys are printing the unresponsive character at random.

    Is it a damaged keyboard ?
    The laptop is just 2 months old, will Apple replace it with a new one if its indeed a damaged keyboard or just repair, I use it for official purposes so being without a laptop is not much of an option.

    No one here works for Apple, so we don't know what Apple might or might not do.  If it's a genuine defect, they will of course repair it under warranty.  It is not their responsibility if it effects your ability to work or not, so that's on you.
    If, however, they determine that the key is problematic as a result of your misuse of the laptop, then everything is on you.  And trust me, if they find a glob of dried up beer or coffee there, they will charge you.
    Your only choice is to take it in for repair.
