Keyboard keys typing themselves after water spillage

Hello,
I spilled water on my wireless mac keyboard.  I have left it upside down to air dry for a few days but when I put the batteries in and start it up the keyboard keeps typing itself and won't let me do anything.  Can I do anything to save the keyboard?
Thank you
kiera

I have been letting it dry longer as suggested perhaps not long enough yet, I tried it and it has stopped typing by itself.  The middle row of keys and the space bar is working but nothing else.  Are the rest likely to come back or is it done for?

  • Kernel_task uses over 250% CPU after water spillage

    --MacBook Pro 13'' 2.3 GHz i5, 4GB RAM, Version 10.9.4, Early 2011 Model --
    Hello,
So after a few droplets of water fell on the keyboard the computer has gone wild. Activity monitor shows kernel_task using over 250% with 80 threads, and obviously the computer is totally slowed and unresponsive. The fan is on non-stop. Multiple reboots and 3 days with it totally off has done nothing. However, in safe boot the computer runs normally, and kernel_task is around 2-3% with 77 threads. Any ideas here?

  • Usb keyboard keys stop working after 10 minutes on mac mini osx lion

I am using a mid-2010 mac mini with opitical drive, updated to OS X Lion. Within the last two days I noticed a certain section of my wired keyboard eventually stops working. These are the right arrow key, as well as the 1, 2, 3, zero, period and enter keys. The virtual on-screen keyboard works just fine. I've come home from work and powered the mac and all keys work fine for ten minutes so it can't be that the keys are worn. I was going to take it to Apple Store genius bar but now I can't tell if it's the hardware or the lion software that's buggy.

I had terrible problems last year with the USB ports on my 20" display. They were made worse when I installed a USB 2.0 PCI card in my G5.
At the time the advice I got was that I should avoid using the display as a USB hub. Apparently the ports are only intended for devices relating to the display (whatever that means). Ridiculous if you ask me. I succesfully use my Cubase SX dongle in the back of the display but that's all.

  • Macbook slow on battery after water spillage

Few months ago I spilled water on my macbook. I turned it off instantly and put it in rice, fortunately it's now working.
The only problem is that when I use it on battery, it is very slow. Even the mouse pointer is lagging when I am moving it. When I used it on batterry, it discharged normally, and when I plug the power cable the batterry gets charged.
When I start it in safe mode, it work well on battery.
I was thinking that a component might have been damaged when water was spilled,  a component that is not used while on safe mode.
Do you have any idea of what the problem could be?
    Thank you for your help

You have to take the computer to the Apple store to have it checked out.

Sounds like it could be a hardware problem.
Try a restart or reset to see if that helps. If not, contact Apple Support.
Restart: Press On/Off button until the Slide to Power Off slider appears, select Slide to Power Off and, after It shuts down, press the On/Off button until the Apple logo appears.
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10 seconds).

  • T440s: some keys not working after a few drops of water

Recently I spilled a few drops (literally) of water on my T440s' backlit keyboard. Right now, as far as I know, the following keys are not working anymore: Y, T, BACKSPACE, TAB, CAPSLOCK and left SHIFT. According to the information Lenovo gave me, the keyboard can handle about 10 liters of water so I'm not sure if water is the cause. But if not, it would be quite the coincidence.
Can somebody advise me what to do?

Hi l, and welcome to Apple Discussions.
I agree with captfred, you definitely want to run that update, and then repair permissions. If that doesn't do the trick, try removing the batt and running. In some cases the batt causes pressure on a cable between it and the inside of the MBP case, resulting in keyboard/trackpad issues.

  • Please help!  my iMac keeps freezing, mouse and keyboard do not work after

Early this morning I turned on my iMac and started downloading updates through software update as usual. I was browsing a website in Safari when all of a sudden the "zoom" feature activated itself and I could not turn it off. I restarted and the keyboard started typing different characters but not letters, so I took out my installation CD and it took me quite a while to reboot the computer using the CD as a startup. Since the keyboard had a different input, the C key was not running the CD. I tried loggin into the support page, but it downloaded the links into the desktop. I used system utilities to restart the computer from the CD, I verified the Disk Permissions, then Repaired the permisions, then the Verify Disk and then the Repair disk, in that order. I restarted the computer and everything seemed fine, but after a couple of minutes the mouse starts closing windows, downloading website links into the desktop and then the keyboard freezes and does not let me type! This has repeated over and over, and I don't know what to do!
Posting this message has been quite an achievement, because I have restarted the computer a lot of times in order to finish.
Someone please help! I don't know what else to do!!!
    Thanks!

Yes. And since you aren't backed up, you may have to use Prosoft Data Rescue to try to recovery any information that is critical. First though, do you have another Mac you can hook this one up to using Target Disk Mode?
If you do, that's another way to rescue information. Target Disk Mode is explained here:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=58583
Similarly, if you have a bootable external hard drive, you can try to boot off that with the Startup manager:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106178
To rescue your information. This at least will allow you to do further analysis to see what data corruption might have happened. If the drive is invisible when booted off another, that may indicate a directory issue. But first let's see if we can attach or boot off another and see the internal drive of the machine.

  • Firefox is Hanging (not full crashing) every time I press a keyboard key.. can't type URLs, can't scroll. Problem started this week and remains reproducible sadly.

Firefox hangs (freezes) when I press keyboard keys on my laptop (and only then).
Can't type URLs or scroll with the keyboard, for instance. Hence why this is being typed up on Internet Explorer. The problem is that my version of IE isn't registering Flash and/or Java as being fully active and up to date and I use Firefox more often.
This problem only appeared this week but now occurs every time; and has persisted after uninstalling and reinstalling (personal options uninstalled).

  • Pavilion 15-b142dx Some Keyboard keys not working

A friend gave me their Pavilion 15-b142dx  sleekbook, apparently AFTER they spilled some type of liquid in it. I was able to revive the computer, however, there is still a problem with the keyboard.  When the keyboard is installed in the laptop, several of the keys do not work. However, when I take it out (and suspend it with some plastic) it works fine.  I have disconnected the ribbon cable, and taken some alcohol to clean up the area. I have also been able to run the HP diagnostics on bootup, both short and extended versions, and they come back ok.  Additionally, I connected an external keyboard and it worked fine. I have searched the forum for this type of question and didn't see it. Has anyone else had this problem, or am I looking at replacing the keyboard?
I currently am running windows 8.1. I do not get any error messages, but I did notice HP does not include a keyboard key test in its diagnostics.

    Hi there @MrKen99
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that some of your keys are not working, after some liquid decided to pay an unwanted visit to the board. I am happy to assist you with this.
In my sordid past I have seen some really messed up keyboards, due to similar things, coffee, cola, water, whatever. My most memorable was someone who brought me a computer that was used in a kitchen and was close to a deep fat fryer, and the keyboard was not only coated with oil and grease but a build up of fuzzy dust all throughout the keyboard. In that case I recommended a replacement as the cost to clean it was more expensive than a new one.
Anyway, it sounds as if you have already tried to clean it, but if you did not pop off the offending/non-working keys, the contacts could be "tacky". Make note of the keys that are having the problem and treat them individually. This document shows how to remove and replace keys from a standard notebook keyboard.
    Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)
If you do not have any success doing that then, I would look at either replacing the keyboard, or using an external keyboard. If you choose a replacement you can look at the service manual for it, and it will list the supported parts.

  • How do i fix my keyboard its typing symbols

Please assist me in my quest to fix my keyboard. I am currently typing from alternative computer. Just a few hours ago, my keyboard started typing in symbols and Latin instead of letters and not Latin. I did not do anything. I did not reset my language. WHAT IS GOING ON? HOW CAN I FIX IT?

I bought an iMac yesterday, and this morning it's doing the same thing. I've been asked to take it back to the store tomorrow, which is such a pain.
I have also found that in safari it will download the page instead of opening it, unless I open in a new window. It does the same thing in all apps, but only after you've been typing a few sentences, which all appear ok. I have tried disabling the alt key, which did not work, and checked languages etc, and all set to English....
Any thoughts? Thankfully my macbook is ok, otherwise I'd be really stuck!!

  • Hp Mini 110 1013tu Keyboard is Not working after upgrade to win 7

Hello need help on weird happenings to my keyboard..
Before i upgrade the Operating System From Windows XP to Windows 7 the Hp Mini 110 is working fine..
All keys on keyboard is working and touchpad is also working.
But after upgrading to windows 7 some keys on keyboard are not working like z,x,c,v, left ctrl and other more keys..
what do you think is the problem??
    Hardware Issue? or Driver Issue?
    please help thank you..

    Hello @MysticDragon ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand some of the keys on your keyboard are not working after installing Windows 7.
I do not see any drivers available for your notebook for Windows 7 on the HP website, so their might be some compatibility issues as it's going to rely on Windows update to find current drivers. This doesn't mean it will not work, but I cannot say for sure that it will.
    Try this:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Control Panel.
    3. Click Clock, Language, and Region.
    4. Click Region and Language.
    5. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab.
    6. Click Change keyboards...
    7. On the General tab, make sure English (United States) - US is selected in the Default input language field.
    8. Click on any other keyboards in the Installed services list.
    9. Click Remove.
    10. Repeat for all other non-English (United States) keyboards.
You may also want to try rolling back to Windows XP and see if the issue persists. It is possible the issue is coincidental and not the direct result of the update to Windows 7.
Let me know if this works!

  • How do I hide the keyboard while typing an email?

On the iPad you can hide the keyboard anytime while typing.  I cannot see a way to hide the keyboard when typing a mail message. I saw a post saying you close, save, go to your saved messaes and open the message again - too time consuming.  There is a fix on the jailbroken site, but I dont want to jailbreak the phone.  There must be a way to hide the keyboard in a mail messge.  In a text message you can.  Any help would be appreciated.

    Edit
I CAN, but not fully for a preview, as the text box goes up completely after 80 odd characters on the iPhone.
So, now i cannot see a previous message for reference.

  • UK PC Keyboard Key Mapping problem

I've tried two UK PC Keyboards on my new mini. Both work fine apart from a few keys which are mapped incorrectly.
The most annoying are that the @ (at sign) and " (double quotes) are the wrong way round.
Is there a setting I can change (or some software I can install) to re-map these keys? I've tried changing the keyboard type in system preferences but it has no effect.
Everything else on the device is superb!
    Thanks

Incredibly, i found the easiest solution to this problem (no, not the solution of buying a Mac keyboard!) lay on Microsoft's website...
I was using a Microsoft Natural Multimedia keyboard with my mini. I went there out of interest to see if there were drivers for it that would allow the use of some of the media keys (and there were incidentally, but that is off-topic!).
I went to http://www.microsoft.com/mac and followed a link to hardware. I forget exactly what route i followed, but i besically tracked down the mac drivers for the natural multimedia keyboard. In addition to the drivers download there was a microsoft keyboard layout download as well. I suspect this layout would be available as a download whichever keyboard you picked.
After installing this layout i then had an extra option in the international settings box called "British - Microsoft". Bingo! Job done.
Now i still found it frustrating since everything you read and all the software you have still talks about keys that the MS keyboards simply don't have and you have to remember that the "command" key is the "windows" key, etc., etc. In the end i just gave in and bought one of the apple pro keyboards. It gave me two extra usb ports and is LOVELY to use.
Bit of a learning curve mind since the @'s and "'s are in the "wrong" places if you come from the MS world, but i figured i may as well go through the entire learning curve and take that on board as well
