Keyboard letter not engaging

I have a brand new iMac with wireless keyboard.  After using it for only a few weeks, the "i" key is not engaging when pressed with normal typing.
Any ideas how to fix?  I know I can always exchange for a new one.

Then, call AppleCare. Free service and replacement the first 90-days.

keyboard does not type letter on key; how to return to normal?
It looks like cyrillic or some slavic language. There is no correspondence between the letter on the key and what appears.

Go to system preferences/language & text/input sources and make sure that only the box for US is checked.
Let us know what version of OS X you are running.

Using the virtual keyboard with this.Tried the suggestion, pram & I think it was SMC but no joy, every other key works just not the 'i'
    Any help much appreciated

    Hi Ricco1,
The problem is that single keys cant be replaced so if a certain key doesnt work its time to replace the whole keyboard but dont worry, new keyboards are not so expensive. Just get in contact with an authorized service provider and ask for a new keyboard, the guys are able to order a new one and they can replace it for you if cant do this yourself.

  • On screen lock screen, the keyboard does not work, switching to the switch-user screen the keyboard works again

    Mac OS-X 10.7.5, Mac Air.
This began about 5 to 7 days ago.
    Steps to reproduce:
    Step 1:
Close the lid, or the system 'powers down', or goes to the screen saver mode.
    Step 2:
Open the lid, press the power button, or what ever to wake up the Mac Air
The "Enter your password" screen is presented.
They keyboard is not responsive, I cannot type anything.
The touch pad works, I can power on/off the machine.
    They keyboard is not functional.
Result: I cannot log in again.
Expected behavior: The keyboard should be working I should be able to unlock the screen.
    Workarounds:
Then click on my name, or any other user of the machine and it works fine.
I can now unlock the screen and return to where I was.
    Expected behavior:
I should not have to go to the "Switch User Screen" to log back in.

    More detail:  Some keys on the keyboard do work, ie: caps lock toggles the led, and the function keys across the top seem to work {that is I can adjust brightness, and so forth}
the letter and numbers, and perhap others do not work.

  • USB Ultranav keyboard does not work with Windows 7

Hi, I recently installed Windows 7 to my Dell Latitude XT tablet and was disappointed to learn that my USB Ultranav Keyboard only works as a keyboard and not a 'mouse'; that is, the ultranav devices (touchpad, buttons, and trackpoint) do not work.  I have not had problems with the keyboard functioning in XP or Vista, so it was surprising to find that it will not work with W7.
I thought all was going well when W7 recognized the Ultranav keyboard when I plugged-in the device, but all did not go as planned.  I let W7 find the drivers through Windows update, but then once they didn't prove to work, I followed W7's directions of reinstalling the drivers in its version of 'Compatability Mode', but that still didn't prove to work.  I would really appreciate any insights into this problem as it is one of my only (current) hesitancies about using W7.
Thank you for your time and attention to my inquiry.
    Cheers,
    Tsugazi

Hi, strangely enough, I got it to work.  Here's the what I did differently (for those with a similar problem):
After installing W7, I plugged in my keyboard and let Windows find the drivers.  When this didn't provide functionality of the ultranav devices, I tried installing the Ultranav drivers, and when Windows said there was a compatability problem, I then opted to let Windows re-install the Ultranav driver.  Unfortunately, this didn't provide functionality either.
Jump ahead 12 hrs and re-install of W7 (for other reasons).  This time out, I installed the Ultranav driver, THEN plugged in my keyboard.  Everything works now!  I don't know that this sequence will work for everyone, but it did for me.
    Thanks for your comments.

  • Hp Mini 110 1013tu Keyboard is Not working after upgrade to win 7

Hello need help on weird happenings to my keyboard..
Before i upgrade the Operating System From Windows XP to Windows 7 the Hp Mini 110 is working fine..
All keys on keyboard is working and touchpad is also working.
But after upgrading to windows 7 some keys on keyboard are not working like z,x,c,v, left ctrl and other more keys..
what do you think is the problem??
    Hardware Issue? or Driver Issue?
    please help thank you..

    Hello @MysticDragon ,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand some of the keys on your keyboard are not working after installing Windows 7.
I do not see any drivers available for your notebook for Windows 7 on the HP website, so their might be some compatibility issues as it's going to rely on Windows update to find current drivers. This doesn't mean it will not work, but I cannot say for sure that it will.
    Try this:
    1. Click Start.
    2. Click Control Panel.
    3. Click Clock, Language, and Region.
    4. Click Region and Language.
    5. Click the Keyboards and Languages tab.
    6. Click Change keyboards...
    7. On the General tab, make sure English (United States) - US is selected in the Default input language field.
    8. Click on any other keyboards in the Installed services list.
    9. Click Remove.
    10. Repeat for all other non-English (United States) keyboards.
You may also want to try rolling back to Windows XP and see if the issue persists. It is possible the issue is coincidental and not the direct result of the update to Windows 7.
Let me know if this works!

  • A row from cap to return on Keyboard is not working.

It is for 17' Apple PowerBook G4 1GHZ. I bought it used off craigslist for cheap. The only wrong with it is one row on keyboard is not working from caps lock to return. Other than that, everything is working. Why? Is there a way to get a row on keyboard to work before I go ahead to order a used keyboard replacement off ebay? Let me know and thank you!

About the only thing to try, really, in this case is to reseat the keyboard ribbon connectors, which may clear things up.  Otherwise, a new keyboard is probably the answer, though less pricey at this link, or just Google search "922-5776 keyboard" for more options.
Not an easy process, unfortunately, as one finds in the iFixit manual pages for that machine's keyboard, but reseating the connector is definitely the thing to try first.
Not to gloat, but it is trivial on a Titanium model.

  • My Apple blue tooth keyboard will not pair with my mac mini

My Apple wireless keyboard was paired with my Mac Mini. It is no longer paired. I have put in new Batteries. I have pressed the button on the top right hand section of the keyboard, the green led lights up briefly. The Blue Tooth set up assistant appears on screen and searches for the keyboard. I has brifly seen it but does not make a connection. The Magic moose is doing the same thing.

    Hi Darrell,
If your Apple Bluetooth and keyboard are not paring to your Mac Mini, then take a look at the article below to walk you through some general troubleshooting to get it to pair and start working again. If you have not done so already, try looking form anything could be causing interference like cordless phones as well and thing metal between the keyboard and the Mac Mini.

  • Keyboard backlight not working like it used to

For some reason my keyboard will not let me manually adjust the back light.
I tried unselecting the "illuminate in low light" in settings- but that doesn't help. And when I go back into preferences it shows as being selected again. How do I override the backlight so that I have full manual control in all lighting conditions?

  • My keyboard is not working properly.

I bought a brand new wireless keyboard and I thought it would connect with no problem but unfortunately most of the keys are not working correctly. I tried to fix it in the keyboard shortcuts but some of the features are not available in the keyboard shortcuts. The "sound" keys are not working (f10,f11,12).  There is I need help!

    Hi
    Try the following.
    Hard reset:
Shut down the notebook, unplug the AC Adapter and then remove the battery. Disconnect all the external peripheral devices connected. Hold down the Power button for 30 seconds. Re-insert the battery and plug in the AC Adapter.
    Power on.
Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to see if this will launch the Start-up Menu and then select F10 to enter the bios menu.
Press F5 to load the defaults (this is sometimes F9, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key), use the arrow keys (assuming they work in this menu) to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Press F10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.
Let the system boot into Windows. Check the keyboard.
    Note--
If you find the keys don't work in the Bios menu, then this is likely to be a Hardware issue.

  • Soft KeyBoard is not working on ios 7 with Air sdk 3.8

    Hi
In my app Soft KeyBoard is not working on ios 7 with Air sdk 3.8. Does any one know soluton for this ?

    Hi,
There's no question that TextFields and TextAreas weren't working in our case, likely because we have a deep displaylist with a variety of object types. Presumably, AIR has changed how it looks through the displaylist for objects that need keyboard, and perhaps we have an object type somewhere in the hierarchy that AIR no longer recurses. It's definitely something that changed, though.
It's no picnic to put together a sample app, I can't afford that time when I have a solution. But the symptom was very clear, a textbox would open, and the cursor would just blink with no way of interacting with it.
I'm happy using StageText directly, because it's a more direct way to interact with the OS and gives more control.
It also solves a bug in AIR that I haven't reported yet, but is as follows. Rarely, when you move the container of a TextField of TextArea after it has been created, AIR will crash and freeze iOS devices. It doesn't happen on Android or desktop, but with a user-base of about 100,000 of our app, we've had it reported maybe 50 times. One of our dialogs sometimes needs to reposition the elements, which is done animated. During this, AIR will crash about 0.01% of the time. We tried only creating the TextArea, but not activating it or even having it visible, but even an invisible TextArea will crash, presumably because AIR moves the internal StageText overlay around as well, and this confuses iOS after a while during the animation.
By using StageText directly, I finally also have a way to get rid of this bug, because I simply don't activate StageText until the object has already been positioned. Prior to that, it isn't even an editable text field, it's a label like anything else. So I'm happy I did this solution.
Let's just leave this thread as a record if someone else has the same problem. I'm quite sure it's because of our very complicated display list, and AIR having changed how it scans the displaylist for objects that need keyboard.
