How much is the upgrade or the optional (as what I read in HP Envy 4, optional details) keyboard light background?
I want to install it in my HP Envy 4 NPC.

Are you planning to buy a new machine or willing to upgrade the old machine ? What is its model ? If old machine, you need a new keyboard and may be a motherboard/system board because the keyboard need somewhere to draw power for its lights. For pricing you can check from the following link:

W530 Keyboard light - unusual problem & hack requested.

I am unable to turn on either the upper-frame light or either of the two keyboard illumination levels with the Fn+Space keys. There are already a number of forum requests as to how the keyboard light is turned on. That is not what this request is about. The Fn+Space combination worked fine for the past year+ and I am well familiar with its toggling operation. Then one day the Fn+Space combination stopped working, never to work since. One immediately is inclined to think, well, the light burned out. But that is not so, for everytime the laptop is rebooted, both the frame edge light and the full keyboard light are fully illuminated every time. But that illumination is only brief and then the lights go out once the reboot sequence continues. Something having to do with the actual mechanical operation of the Fn+Space key combination has stopped working. To be clear, the Fn key and the Space key all play their other normal functions and roles without a hitch. I want to get my Fn+Space combination functionality back again. That is what this message is about. I'm thinking there is a hacker out there that could do a work-around on this problem. It seems likely to me that the Fn+Space key combination is turning on/off a register key somewhere. If I could access that register key and set the flag appropriately, then the light should turn on, since I know the illumination feature is working from the reboot sequence. Is there anyone reading this that would know where that register key is and how to safely access it and switch it on to stay on? That is, to say, safe for a non-hacker to perfoorm? Is your system otherwise stable and reboots reliably?

Try to close every background program (especially those that interface with hardware like TPFanControl, as well as anti-virus), and turn off your internet. This should reduce the risks.

N900 Physical keyboard lights not working

Hi,
Physical keyboard lights are not working when display is fully up. Keyboard lights work only when display is halfway up. Lights go off just a millimeter before when display reach it top position.
Can anyone suggest is this a software issue or there is something physically wrong with phone (slider-switch is slightly misplaced or broken)?

-> to cpitchford: I downloaded package and entered the commands you suggested. X terminal reply after "sudo gainroot" was "Enable RD mode if you want to break your phone". I'm not at home with RD mode, so I rather don't mess with it.. After all it was mentioned to just monitor when the switch is on/off? Keyboard light comes ON when display bottom edge reaches middle of Q-letter (on keyboard) and go OFF after the "clunk". Then, if I slightly press down the display (1mm) the keyboard lights come ON again.
_> to DrEJV :I think the background light sensor is working OK - when I cover the light sensor with finger ,display dimes slightly. Problem is that keyboard light don't work at all when display is fully open, not even in total backround blackout.
Think that there might be wrong something with physical switch, as jlpils suggested, because now I know that they SHOULD be lighted

Yoga 2 Pro keyboard light

Hi,
I have a Yoga 2 Pro for just a few days.
I noticed that the keyboard light is not workiing properly.
Sometimes it lights up, sometimes it does not.
Sometimes I can turn it on and off (fn + left space), sometimes I cannot.
Once it came on by itself, but when I pressed a key - a letter key - it turned off and I could not light it up again.
I noticed that when it does not work, if I change mode (from laptop to tent or tablet and back to laptop) most of the times I am able to take it on.
I am guessing this is a hardware problem.
Am I right?
Is there anything I can do to make sure it is a h/w failure before getting it to a service center?

Keyboard lights will not stay off no matter what I do on my MacBook Pro. Why??

I've got a MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo.
I have ALWAYS left the keyboard lights off for the 4 years I have had it.
But lately, no matter what settings I change or what I try, I cannot PREVENT the keyboard lights from coming on when I've been away from the computer for a long period of time.
Automatically illuminate keyboard in low light is NOT checked in System Prefs. I have reset the PRAM, and left the laptop off with the battery off for hours in hopes of resetting it.
Nothing will work. Almost every time I am away from my computer for hours, I come back and the keyboard lights are on. And when I tap the keyboard light brightness buttons, it just gives me the buster symbol (white circle with a line through it) on screen below the keyboard light brightness indicator for a few seconds. Somehow continuing to tap those buttons eventually makes the lights just turn off. Or holding my hands over the whole keyboard to trigger the sensor can suddenly allow me to control the on/off brightness with those buttons again. In which case I try turning the lights off completely or turning the brightness so low that it goes off.
But once again, when I wake up in the morning, I find the keyboard lights on.
Now the ONLY thing that has changed since this started happening is that I added a new User account. BUT that should asbolutely not cause this problem. I have checked to see if the System Preferences for the keyboard lights in the new user account were causing a conflict, but no, they are exactly the same as my main account.
I have not tried deleting the user account yet because I actually want it and would find it very hard to believe that was the culprit. It's just the only thing I can think of that changed shortly before this started happening.
Is there anything else I can do!?! Is there some preference file that controls the lights somewhere that could be corrupt that I need to trash?

From reading up of other forums with the same problem i have come up with two reasons why it is doing that.
first try doing a smc reset
if that does not work then it is a hardware error. Many people have had the problem and they have not been able to fix it so good luck

Problem with Battery and Keyboard Light

First off, sorry if this is in the wrong section. This is my first time on these forums.
Just today I was skyping my girlfriend on my Macbook Pro (that I got in the summer or 2010). I have SmcFanControl installed and I regularly use it to monitor/increase my fan speed. As I regularly skype and play WoW on this computer, my computer temp often sits around 160-170 degrees F.
Today it was at around 170 and I had it on my lap. I sat up and jostled the computer a little and it shut off. The power cord light, which was green, immediately turned off. I tried unplugging it and plugging it back in and it stayed off. The computer wouldnt restart for about 30 seconds. Finally after hitting the power button several times it turned on.
It worked fine for 10 or so minutes. I assumed I just moved it too suddenly, although I have never had a problem with that before. Then, I moved again and it shut off AGAIN. It took another 30 seconds to register the power cord and to turn on.
This time, when it booted up, it said my clock was set to a date before 2008, althought it was still at Feb 16, 2011. Also, as soon as I turned it on, the fans were going full speed (as loud as when i have SmcFanControl set at 6200 rpm). I opened SmcFancontrol and it says my computer's temp is at 32 Degrees F and 000 rpm, which I know is not correct. I can't change the speed of the fans and the temp of the computer hasnt changed at all.
Also, my battery icon has an X through it and says "No batteries available" "Power Source: Power Adapter." The green light is very dim on the charger.
AND on top of this, my keyboard lights no longer turn on, even pushing F5 and F6. I am in a dim room so they should auto turn on.
I am afraid that I may have overheated the computer, but I was wondering if anyone has any advice. I was thinking of opening the back up but I dont have a small enough screwdriver at the momment. I also tried doing the "top -u -s3" command to check cpu% and my highest one is Firefox around 10-15%.
Any help would be appreciated. I'm thinking this is gonna require a look at the Apple Store, however I am an out of state college student and I'm not returning home for another week and I need my computer for assignments.

SMC reset works best with anything that relies on power for the machine. When it comes to batteries SMC reset and PRAM usually do the trick. Also a lot of people miss this, do not plug on the top plugs use the lower plug.
As for the temperature on the lap, expect a lot of heat, the computers are designed to lay on flat SOLID surfaces. The underbelly on aluminum chassis laptops act as a heatsink. In addition the rubber feet keep the product high enough so air can pass through and help cool the system.
As far as the adapter you can have AppleCare send you without waiting a week for it. If it is an obvious hardware problem they may do an exception for you if you are out of phone support. Highly recommend APP for the phone support. You would have a battery on it's way to your current location in a couple days!

You probably should have addressed this issue when you originally noticed it. If you have Apple care, then you still can have this rectified under the warranty provisions.

@kiki1871: This would be the last option I would take. I cloned the HDD before replacing it to avoid the whole OSX installation & backup procedure. I wonder if I could download the driver and install it now. Any hint wherefrom I can get it?

Keyboard light not working on boot camp!

I received some updates for the Boot camp just recently, and since then the keyboard light doesn't turn on anymore when it gets dark! I'm working on the windows XP...
I feel i made a huge mistake accepting the update!!!!

Have you tried manually turning it on?
Press the F8 button I believe to toggle the backlight
You may have accidentally switched it off or something
If that doesn't work, try F10 to brighten it just to see if it's working

Bootcamp 2.1 with WIndows XP SP3 can't turn keyboard light off

Hi I've installed bootcamp 2.1 on my macbook pro 13 (june 2009 model) and the operation went smoothly.
After I install bootcamp drivers everything work like a dream eject button, screen brightness control apart from the keyboard light which I can't turn if off, the light set to the lowest and everything I boot into windows the light goes back to the maximum

I found a quick fix solution.
if I kill the process kbdmgr.exe then the keyboard light will go off and leave the display brightness the same as your setting which is fine for me.
but the volumn controls and eject button will not work I will have to do it from the windows interface rather than the keyboard

My 9330 keyboard light just seems to come on when I need to use it. Any time I hit a button to light up my screen the keyboard comes on too. There is a setting (menu/options/screen/keyboard) that may have something checked or unchecked that may need to be fiddled with. Good luck.
