Keyboard light MacBook pro, Lion

Keyboard light won't work when in the dark, but the screen will dim. When in bootcamp on windows it works fine.
Been into keyboard preferences and there his no illuminate keyboard box.

yes, there seems to be a keyboard problem in lion. So you don't see this screen:
Even with this screen, there is no way to TURN OFF the keyboard backlight, which on an older MBP just makes it harder to see the keys in the daytime.
I guess this will be a 10.7.1 fix, hopefully.

Using Thinkpad Trackpoint USB Keyboard with MacBook Pro, Air, Retina (with pictures)
The purpose of this discussion thread is to:
    (1) Get community thoughts around using alternative and complimentary mousing approaches with MacBooks
    (2) To share a current and searchable set of resources for those interested in leveraging a best-of-both-worlds approach for using a non-Apple Trackpoint Keyboard with an Apple MacBook.
    (3) To level-set the fact that a Thinkpad Trackpoint USB Keyboard works with MacBooks automatically and instantly out-of-the-box.
Note: I created this discussion because I found that all the other discussion threads related to using a Thinkpad Trackpoint Keyboard with MacBooks were archived and therefore I could not post my thoughts there.
I have been using MacBooks for 3+ years now.  Airs, Pros, Retinas etc.  I LOVE the built-in MacBook Apple Trackpad.  It is wonderful.  Apple has no equal as far as Trackpads go.
In addition, I have been using the Thinkpad Trackpoint USB Keyboard with my MacBooks for ~2 years, and below is why I have found BOTH the Apple Trackpad and Thinkpad Trackpoint to be great.
The Trackpoint and Trackpad both have their sweet spots.  Personally I use the built-in Apple Trackpad on my MacBooks when I'm using my MacBook for less than 1 hour, loosely speaking.  If I am going to be heads-down for more than 1 hr writing, reading, surfing, graphic designing, programming, workshop facilitating, teaching, mindmapping, presenting, demoing, etc. then I pull out my "Lenovo Thinkpad USB Keyboard with Trackpoint (55Y9003) > https://www.google.com/search?&q=lenovo+thinkpad+trackpoint+usb+keyboard
I know many will laugh at me for using a Thinkpad Trackpoint Keyboard with a MacBook...  Keeping an open mind, let's just agree that there is historical precedence for alternative mousing devices.  If I could only choose one, I would use the Apple MacBook built-in Trackpad exclusively, however with alternatives come potential benefits.  Keep in mind that Apple, Microsoft, Logitech and many other companies make millions of dollars each year providing alternative peripheral devices for computers, and mousing is no exception.  Regardless, I just want to share my positive experiences using both. :-)
Why should you care?  For *some* people the following is true and meaningful.  The Trackpoint (the little red eraser head stick thingy) in the midle of the keyboard enables useful and unique dynamics/use-cases, including:
You don't have to take your hand(s) off the keyboard to mouse
You can independantly click without accidentally moving the mouse (Yes I know some people don't have issues with this)
You don't run out of finger-gesture runway when you're moving your mouse across the screen (I know this is a gray area for some people)
For mouse-movement-heavy applications (e.g. Graphics, drawing, etc.) the Trackpoint *is at times* more exacting
Below I share some pictures (which I know *look* ridiculous to some people, but none-the-less help demystify what this looks like.  And, while ridiculous looking, it is actually quite thin and elegant once you get over the initial shock of seeing these two diverse technologies combined in this way.
Rest assured, the keyboard shown below (google "55Y9003") is VERY light, thin and fits in almost any laptop case/backpack easily so it is not a big deal to carry it, if you work on-the-go.  In addition:
It is UNCANNY how well it fits on top of the keyboard space of all MacBooks.
It fits perfectly around the corners of the MacBook Pro/Air/Retina keyboard
Note: I took one of the 5 rubber feet/pads off the bottom of my keyboard, the one in the middle
Lastly, you can actually use the built-in Apple Trackpad at the SAME TIME as the Trackpoint Keyboard.
It is quite a nice best-of-both-worlds approach for people that like the benefits of the "Why should you care?" use cases above.
Please reply and comment with your thoughts and please let's keep it positive, constructive and friendly :-)
    Pictures Below:
My two Retina MBPs, one with and one without the keyboard, so you can easily see the difference.  (As if you wouldn't)
A slightly closer-up shot of just the RMBP with the Trackpoint Keyboard on top
Please reply and comment with your thoughts and please let's keep it positive, constructive and friendly :-)

Newer Bluetooth version of the ThinkPad External Trackpoint Keyboard available...
The new version is smaller, so you can use your MacBook Trackpad at the same time as your Trackpoint keyboard.
    Here is the Lenovo model/Part Number# 0B47190
Here is a picture of what it looks like:
Note: Just like the older larger USB model keyboard, there is a rubbery footpad in the middle of the bottom of the keyboard that I just peeled off.  Otherwise, it makes the "H" key press accidentally under-neath the keyboard.  Once I took that off, it fit perfectly over and around the built-in MacBook keyboard, so I can optionally put it on top of my MacBook for easy typing. :-)

Is it a damaged keyboard ?
The laptop is just 2 months old, will Apple replace it with a new one if its indeed a damaged keyboard or just repair, I use it for official purposes so being without a laptop is not much of an option.

No one here works for Apple, so we don't know what Apple might or might not do.  If it's a genuine defect, they will of course repair it under warranty.  It is not their responsibility if it effects your ability to work or not, so that's on you.
If, however, they determine that the key is problematic as a result of your misuse of the laptop, then everything is on you.  And trust me, if they find a glob of dried up beer or coffee there, they will charge you.
Your only choice is to take it in for repair.

  • Can I install iDVD (only) from an iLife 11 CD on a new (late 2011) on-line MacBook Pro/Lion purchase that no longer included it?

Can I install iDVD (only) from an iLife 11 CD on a new (late 2011) on-line MacBook Pro/Lion purchase that no longer included it?

Purchasing iLife 11 on disk is an easy thing to do. ILife 11 will include iDVD.
If you have iDVD on another Macintosh you can transfer it to your new computer. That procedure has been discussed here many times, if you do a search you will find that procedure.

i want arabic and engilish keyboard in MacBook Pro with retina display how can i order that ??, i want arabic and engilish keyboard in MacBook Pro with retina display how can i order that ??

If you haven't found an answer yet. I know for a fact that this can be ordered directly from Apple at no extra cost
You can either ask for this when buying a new MBP at a "physical" Apple store, or as in my case in the UK the online Apple store allows such keyboard configuration in addition to 3 other languages like Spanish, German and French

  • Where can I order a cyrillic liser engraving for my keyboard on Macbook Pro 15" ?

Hi everybody, sorry for the wrong topic but can somebody tell me where can I order a cyrillic liser engraving for my keyboard on Macbook Pro 15" in Wisconsin or New York?

I've never heard of anyone anywhere offering that service.  I suggest instead you look for a keyboard cover or replacement keyboard.  For keyboard covers do a google search.  For a keyboard, ask these folks:

    Hi,
This is to add more functionality to your keyboard, as CTRL and SHIF do.
for the list of the shortcuts you can use to make your computer work quicker and more comfortable you can check here.

You do not have to use the Command Key if you are ok with the trackpad or mouse. Function Key make life easier.

  • Aperture 2 on Macbook Pro (LIon)

I use Aperture 2 on my iMac (snow leopard).
I bought a new MacBook Pro (Lion) and want to put
Aperture 2 on the Macbook then upgrade to Aperture 3.
The Macbook won't take it. Tells me Aperture is not compatible.
I need a photo organizer/editor for the MacBook and if aperture 2 won't
work, does anyone have another suggestion as to what I can do or use.
I'd rather not use full Photoshop (too expensive) and I'm told that
Photoshop Elements 10 will not read Apertures photo library.
    Ideas ... anyone .... please.

For anyone who may be interested..... after a little bit of hassle finally spoke with a
    techie in the aperture department.
It seems Aperture 2 is not compatible with the Lion (OS 10.7.1)
You need Aperture 3 (no surprise there).
You can download Aperture 3 from the app store for $80.
Aperture 2's library will be recignized by the Mark 3 program and will be
updated to work with Aperture 3 ...which will make it unuseable by Aperture 2.
upshot is .... if you upgrade to Apert 3 ..you gotta do it on all your computers
    or not at all.
actively looking at Photoshop Elements 10 instead. At least that way I can use the same program on all my ,machines and download from one to the other without compatibility problems.

  • IDVD in Macbook Pro Lion

Hi; I bought a macbook pro lion and relased there is no iDVD on it, could you please help me to find somewhre else?
    Best

The current Apple thinking is that the entire world has access to fast broadband and wants to destribute home movies to friends and relatives via download (iCloud) rather than mailing them a DVD. The fact that nothing could be further from the truth has so far had no effect on this policy. If you scream and shout loudly enough down the phone Apple may send you a free copy of iDVD. That has worked for some, but is not guaranteed to work for all.
Whilst Macs with a Superdrive continue to be able to burn video DVDs, the software for so doing, iDVD, is no longer included in the iLife bundle that comes with Lion. You have to buy iLife 11 from online Apple Store in order to get iDVD. You are strongly recommended to do so soon as it will not be available for much longer.

  • Poor Keyboard backlight Macbook Pro 17"

    Hello.
Just before August my Macbook Pro 17" (late 2009) keyboard seemed to behave correctly, it had the proper backlight intensity.
Now, after a month and a Lion OS X upgrade (upgraded before holidays), the intensity of the keyboard illumination has become poor, quite low.
It also has a kind of pink shade, compared to the new Macbook Air I purchased meanwhile.
It is just a normal downgrade due to the lifetime (I often use the Mac in low lights so the backlight is usually on), or it is just the result of a comaprison between new brighter keyboards (Macbook Air) and old ones (my Mackbook Pro 17")?
I tried restarting and resetting the SMC, but it did not fixed the problem.
Backlight is working normally, it just has become very weak.
Any way to restore the original intensity?
    Thanks

In my efforts to troubleshoot this issue, I attempted to re-install Windows and the Boot Camp drivers - no luck; the keyboard did not light up during this 4th install of the Boot Camp drivers in windows.
As I read several posts about people upgrading to Mountain Lion or Mavericks and then losing their keyboard backlight, I also tried installing Snow Leopard. No luck there either.
As there is no indication that the SMC reset has been successfully performed, I searched for methods to do this through software, in the off-chance that the standard method was not working.
As per these instructions on the IFixIt forum, I set about to install rEFInd. However, the standard install method resulted in rEFInd never popping up in my boot menu, so I found another solution that involves renaming the rEFInd files folders to "boot", so the system boots to it directly. Instructions here.
As the rEFInd shell refuses start on this particular MacBook model, I also ended up copying the shell from tools folder of rEFIt iso download, and then copied it to the tools folder of the rEFInd installation. This worked great, and I could resume the instructions from the IFixIt forum.
(Note: in the rEFIt shell, ./ is not recognised, so you just type SmcFlasher.efi -reset 1)
However, even after successfully running the reset command, the keyboard backlight still doesn't light up.
I have been searching for ways to test the hardware itself, perhaps by applying power to the chord that connects to the logic board.
I found nothing on this though.

  • Replace keyboard for Macbook Pro

    Hi,
I need a new keyboard for my Macbook Pro 15" with back lighting. It works fine, but I dropped my cigarette and it burned the "esc" key. Again the esc key works, but I have to push it hard, so I think I think that I need to replace the keyboard.
Is this something that can be fixed if I go to the Apple Store, or if not what are my options?
    Thanks,
    Johnny

    Hi my ginger,
    I found a keyboard on E-Bay:
    http://www.ebay.com/cln/barrjohnm/MacBook-Pro-Keyboard/173449982019
This looks like it will fix my problem. Do you know if this is the right one? here is a image of my system - https://www.dropbox.com/s/if0xnx0u3suruj9/Screen%20Shot%202015-02-05%20at%204.26 .03%20PM.png?dl=0
Well Hopefully I can get somebody at the Apple store to replace it.
    Thanks!
