  • Keyboard doesn't load sometimes

I'm using iPhone 6+, ios 8.0.2.  I have Swype and Swiftkey keyboards loaded.  I most commonly use Swiftkey (preference).  Sometimes the keyboard doesn't load at all (none of them) when trying to use message or email.  The workaround I have is I shut down the app and restart which fixes the issues.  It's annoying!  I'm not sure if it's issue with the app or the IOS but I suspect the IOS since none of the keyboards load when I encounter the issue vs. specific keyboard.  Anyone else encountering this issue??

    Hi tbarkermn,
If you are having issues with your keyboards not appearing in various applications, you may want to try some things to troubleshoot.
First, quit all running applications and test again -
iOS: Force an app to close
Next, I would try restarting the iPhone -
Turn your iOS device off and on (restart) and reset
If the issue is still present, you may want to restore the iPhone as a new device -
iOS: How to back up your data and set up your device as a new device
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Deleted English keyboard and now can't log into iPhone from lock screen

I downloaded SwiftKey for my iPhone 5S after updating to iOS8 and found that it didn't pop up as the default keyboard for the phone.  I went to keyboards and deleted the standard, iPhone English keyboard which then made SwiftKey the default.  In 20-20 hindsight it was a very stupid thing to do, but it really seemed like a good idea at the time, and it did make SwiftKey the default.  Of note, I still had the Hebrew keyboard loaded as a secondary keyboard.
The problem is that when the iPhone locked out, the Hebrew keyboard now comes up in the lock screen.  I have no way to switch the lock screen keyboard to English characters so that I can input my password.  Effectively, I am now unable to log into my iPhone.  I tried turning it off and on and also tried a 'hard reset' by pressing both the power button and the home button until the iPhone reboots.  Still no access to the English keyboard on the lock screen....
I have the Phone backed up completely on my computer at home--how do I get the English keyboard back so I can log in?  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Okay.  I know I'm not the only one who has this problem, because I just answered another query.  After playing around with the iPhone a bit and talking to the guy in our IT department I found the answer...  I'm posting the answer to my own question so that if anyone else has a problem they can find the solution here.
You will need a computer with iTunes running and your sync cable.
Here's what I found out...  If you hold down the power button and the home button for a ridiculously long time (close to a minute and it might cycle through the plain apple picture twice) you eventually will get the a screen that looks that looks like an iPhone sync cord and an arrow pointing to a red iTunes logo.
You can then hook the phone up to your computer, boot up iTunes, and the phone will be recognized by the computer.  After that, you simply go to iTunes and pick the option "restore iPhone" and that should work...  This will reset your phone to the factory settings.
Once this is done, you can sync to iTunes again and restore all your phone from your iTunes back up.  If you don't have a back up, this will probably wipe out the data on the iPhone, but at least you'll have a working phone when you are done.
I'm really kicking myself for removing the English keyboard, but as it was an option to remove it, I couldn't imagine that the phone would have a problem like this if I eliminated it.  Apple will really need to rethink this one if they give the option of removing their English keyboard.
    Good luck!

  • E450 won't boot with key switch, does with keyboard

    Evening chaps.
As the subject suggests, this is actually a follow up question to a previous thread by the same name.
I have a E450 here which until about 4 hours ago was running just fine using a serial console.
Up till then it has had no issues, problems, etc and has run absolutely flawlessly.
I did a nice graceful shutdown (Solaris 9), and then used the power-off from the obp.
I turned the key off, powered the machine off, switched some disks around and when it came to powering the unit back on ... it wouldn't!
No matter what I did, I could not bring it back to life.
The 'solution' was to plug a keyboard in and use the power key on that.
Now my question ... does anyone have any idea as to what causes this and how do I go about fixing it???
Having to have a keyboard attached to the machine to turn it on has knobs on it!
Any suggestions here would be greatly appreciated as this is a 'new' behaviour for this machine.

  • IPhone 4: Blank text messages, dropped calls, slow Internet connection

I thought I was going to be so happy with the iPhone 4 but I am very dissatisfied... Every time I am on the phone the call drops, called AT&T and they can't help and transfer me to apple, still no answer from both parties. I could not believe that they said to use DUCKTAPE.... Are they being serious??????
Also, when I send a text message, most of the time the person receiving the text says it is blank. Has anyone else experiencing this problem?

I just bought a couple of iphone 4's last week (one for my wife and one for me). After two days of using it, my wife commented that her sister (who lives in Los Angeles, we live in Seattle) was receiving "some" messages blank. Originally I thought it was related to my sister in law being on a T-mobile network or just because she was using a different phone.
However, last night, a friend mentioned exactly the same thing. Out of three text messages I've sent, two came in blank, no text.
My theory: We both text in English and Spanish, therefore we have two keyboards loaded on the iphone, so we can switch easily. I have a feeling the special characters in the spanish language is what deters people with other phones/different network to receive them properly. I will switch my keyboard back to English only and post my results.

  • Sun E250 blank Screen... Need help

    Hi everyone,
Currently I have moved my E250 server back from my customer site. It was working last week and now when I tried to power up it does not reach the Open Boot prompt.
I will start with the LED light located on the front panel. Only the green light which is the power light is on. Normally there an amber light that will blink that which the machine will work fine. Now that light does not blink at all.
Also there is other LED fault light that appear like powersupply, hardisk and room tempearture.
Therefore need helps from any gurus here. Do you think is there any component that was loose inside the system like memory or CPU ? If so I believe the LED light will appear as fault which now it has none.
    Thanks...
    Regards
    Jeremy

I did OBP upgrade. Problem is still there and I don't see anything in the DIAG.

  • "Drive not ready" can't boot the Sun Enterprise 250 Server 400MHz

    Hi,
Because I can't ping it and got no response on the console, so I had to reboot the E250 server.
When I reboot SUN E250, I got the following message on the console and then it stops.
    Sun (TM) Enterprise 250 (2 X UltraSPARC-II 400MHz), No Keyboard
OpenBoot 3.16, 1024 MB memory installed, Serial #15131886.
Ethernet address 8:0:20:e6:e4:ee, Host ID: 80e6e4ee.
    Drive not ready
When I turned to diagnostic mode, I got the
    Rebooting with command: boot
Boot device: net File and args:
Using Onboard Transceiver - Link Up.

Anyone knows what's the problem and how can I fix it?
    Cheers

You either have a mechanically or electronically failed disk drive or else your Operating System (I an presuming it is Solaris on that SPARC system) is completely mucked up.
If it is the OS at issue, you will need to install everything fresh.
If it is the 18GB disk drive, you will need to replace it and install everything fresh.
Either way, at some point you will have to go get your OS installation media and install everything fresh. The solution is not that difficult to understand.

  • Won't boot after installing Solaris 10

    Hi!
    I use Ultra 10 machine

    I install Solaris by typing
    ok boot cdrom -text
after choosing the network and time zone
The system reboot, but it still stays in ok
Does anyone have similar questions? Could you please help me with this? Thank you very much.

I bought Ultra 10 and hard drive separately on eBay
It's my first installation on this hard drive. I have never boot from this drive before. The seller of the hard drive claimed that the hard drive is pulled out from a Ultra 10 machine. Thanks for your help.

  • Solaris 10 hang during boot

Don't know if this is a right place, if it's not, please direct me, thanks!
I had a SPARC Ultra 10 machine running under Solaris 10, it was
running for couple months. Recently when I reboot it, it was hang at
"Use is subject to license terms."
I press STOP+A to bring me to ok prompt, then type boot -v, the
    following is the output:
    ok boot -v
Boot device: /pci@1f,0/pci@1,1/ide@3/disk@0,0 File and args: -v
    The boot filesystem is logging.
The ufs log is empty and will not be used.

The strange thing is that I replaced a hard disk yesterday and at one time I was able to boot it to single user mode, but when I tried to install OS on the new disk, it stopped at the place where I described as above again.
I have no totally no clues where the problem might be.
    Appreciate your helps.

    Hi
    Welcome To Lenovo Community
We are really sorry to hear about the issue you are facing,
Based from what i read in your post, keyboard is not functioning when logging to windows  & touchpad also is not working  . Please try entering in Bios , and check if you are able to use the keyboard , Load setup defaults , Keep tapping F8 to load windows in safe mode and check .
If you are able to use the keyboard & touchpad  , Try disabling startup by using MSCONFIG
    Then restart and check .
You may also try using UBUNTU Live CD to verify if the keyboard and touchpad are working

  • Xkbmap option gets reset everytime X loses focus

    Hello,
Since my last update (2015/02/05), the xkb option
    caps:swapescape
gets removed everytime X server loses focus. By "lose focus", I mean switching to virtual console, triggering sleep, triggering suspend, etc.
EDIT: This situation changed. Suspend and sleep no longer drops swapescape. Only virtual console drops it.
Here is the output of setxkbmap -query before and after jumping to virtual console (ctrl+alt+f2):
    [22:52:57 ~]$ setxkbmap -query
    rules: evdev
    model: pc104
    layout: ca,us
    variant: multi,
    options: caps:swapescape,numpad:microsoft
    [22:53:00 ~]$ setxkbmap -query
    rules: evdev
    model: pc104
    layout: ca,us
    variant: multi,
    options: numpad:microsoft
    [22:53:05 ~]$
The swapescape option got dropped. Another option I tried was to run:
    [22:53:05 ~]$ cat .speedswapper
! Swap caps lock and escape
    remove Lock = Caps_Lock
    keysym Escape = Caps_Lock
    keysym Caps_Lock = Escape
    add Lock = Caps_Lock
    [22:53:05 ~]$ xmodmap ~/.speedswapper
While this successfully swaps esc and caps,  it does not stick (switching to console reverts the change)
I'm not exactly sure how I could fix that. Is there a way I can execute some code every time X unhangs? Is there a way to punch in the esc <-> caps flip in the XKB layout map?
    Extra info:
    this is my .xinitrc file:
setxkbmap -layout ca -variant multi -option caps:swapescape -option numpad:microsoft
After boot, the caps:swapescape is not enables. A quick
    setxkbmap -option caps:swapescape
    applies the option.
EDIT: This situation changed. Suspend and sleep no longer drops swapescape. Only going to virtual console drops it.

No success with the X config file: the appropriate keyboard loads, but not the swapescape option.
I use an X config file to swap ctrl and caps. Are you sure you're doing it right?
    $ ls /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
    00-keyboard.conf 20-nouveau.conf 30-fonts.conf
    $ cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/00-keyboard.conf
    # Read and parsed by systemd-localed. It's probably wise not to edit this file
    # manually too freely.
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "system-keyboard"
    Driver "evdev"
    Option "XkbLayout" "carpalx"
    Option "XkbOptions" "ctrl:swapcaps"
    EndSection
The swapescape still gets cleared on switching to Virtual console.
Presumably you're falling back to however you were doing it before, so it's no surprise it still gets cleared right?
As to workarounds, I think your best option is to figure out why the right solution is not working. 1) may be more complicated than you expect; 2) definitely won't work; 3) a lot of time & effort for little reward.

  • Major Safari Problems that need dire solutions

II have been having this problem since I got the phone, which was back in December 2010. When I use Safari, often when I load or refresh pages, the browser automatically takes me to the bottom of the page. The browser is also very sluggish when typing with the Apple wireless keyboard, loading and reloading pages, and viewing pages. Clearing the cash, history and cookies doesn't help, neither does the reset. I am not running Wi-fi but strictly 3G. I wish Apple would also come out with an Apple Support Communities app so that I wouldn't have to use Safari with this. Anyone have any solutions?

    Restore your iPhone.

An app for the ASC? In essence, you're using it. Same principle.

  • Zsh 4.3 and multibyte support

    I compiled zsh-4.3.0-dev-2 with --enable-multibyte
How do I test to see if it is working?

I got a very detailed reply from Peter Stephenson. If anyone feels like testing this, please let me know of the outcome and I will send it to him.
That's a good point. I suppose this could go into the FAQ, so please
correct any bits I've got wrong.
Multibyte support is compiled in if the line
    #define MULTIBYTE_SUPPORT 1
appears in config.h. If you don't have the source, you could try
    running
    (bindkey -m)
and see if you get a warning message about doing this with multibyte
enabled. (The parentheses protect you from the results.)
    % (bindkey -m)
bindkey: warning: `bindkey -m' disables multibyte support
To test it, you need an appropriate environment:
    (1) a locale with multibyte characters. Unless you already know that
you need a different character set, look for a variant of your usuallocale with UTF-8 in it. Nowadays it's quite possible $LANG is already
set to a UTF-8 locale. For example, mine is en_GB.UTF-8; en_US.UTF-8 is
an obvious one. zsh will complete locales on assignment to the variable
    LANG, so
    export LANG=^D
will show possible values. A reasonable modern Unix distribution should
let you set this up consistently for your desktop environment, but
exporting the variable, then starting a suitable terminal emulator is
    enough to get things going.
    (2) a corresponding font. If you use an old-style X font with lots of
dashes, you need one with iso10646-1 at the end (not, for example,
iso8859-1). If your terminal emulator allows you to pick fonts from a
menu, it's probably smart enough to match the character set to the
locale and you can forget about this.
    (3) a terminal emulator that handles multibyte mode. I've had mixed
results with xterm, possibly out of ignorance. gnome-terminal is the
best I've tried but I haven't searched too far. (This is the sort of
thing Apple will almost certainly have got right in whatever they
    provide.)
Once zsh is running in this environment, you need to be able to enter
    multibyte characters.
If your keyboard provides such characters, don't use the "bindkey -m"
option, which treats the high bit in 8-bit characters as if it were an
escape character. A shell with multibyte enabled will warn if you set
the option. You can remove all meta bindings with:
    bindkey -L | grep '\\M' |
    sed -e '/^bindkey \(-R \|\)"\\M/s/[^ ]*$/undefined-key/' |
while read -r line; do eval $line; done
(that's the simplest I could come up with; the shell doesn't provide a
direct antidote), but that doesn't seem to undo the effect completely,
so there may be a bug lurking.
There are two zle widgets provided with 4.3 to allow you to enter
characters not on the keyboard; load them in the normal way with
    autoload -Uz insert-unicode-char insert-composed-char
    zle -N insert-unicode-char
    zle -N insert-composed-char
Bind them with bindkey as appropriate. They're described in the
    zshcontrib manual page.
insert-unicode-char takes the Unicode value for the character as
a hex number (execute the widget before and after the hex number).
insert-composed-char is followed by a more memorable two-character
mnemonic described in RFC 1345, http://www.faqs.org/rfcs/rfc1345.html,
for various accented characters, non-Latin European and related character sets, and special characters such as punctuation and
mathematical symbols. For example, try cH and see if you get a playing
card heart. Not all of RFC 1345 is implemented but it's easy to extend
    the function.
Ideally, editing with multibyte characters should behave identically to
editing with ASCII, even if the characters have double width. There's
one bug in cd listings reported by Mikael Magnusson in zsh-users/9741
that hasn't been looked at yet, but mostly it seems to be working OK.
It's taken me six years until I can use the Euro character that came
on my keyboard directly in zsh, but it's quite satisfying...
