Keyboard lock doesnt really lock

Model: 8110
OS: 4.3.0.93
I carry my phone in my back pocket with the keypad locked.  I have noticed that with OS version 4.3 that now the keypad doesnt really lock anymore.  It does prevent a keypress from doing anything, but does not stop functions that are triggered by holding down a key.  For example, with the keyboard locked, I can turn off my phone by holding the RED button.  I can also change my profile to vibrate by holdign down the # key, while the keypad is "locked".  So whats happening is that I will discover that my phone has turned itself off while I was sitting in a chair or something because the keypad "lock" still allows these functions to work.
Will RIM fix this in a future release?

Hi Gabri,
Having looked at the model you have mentioned I can confirm that this function isn't available. The only additional keylock feature available is automatic locking.
Best Regards
Stuart

  • What is the keyboard shortcut to the lock screen?

    Hi,
    I am a macbook user and I want to know what is the shortcut to the lock screen on mac OS X?
    please help!
    thank you

    YousefTa3lab,
    there isn’t a default keyboard shortcut to the lock screen; perhaps a third-party app can provide one. Without a third-party app, you could open the Security & Privacy pane of System Preferences, select the General tab, and check the “Require password after sleep or screen saver begins” checkbox. You can then open the Desktop & Screen Saver pane of System Preferences, select the Screen Saver tab, choose a screen saver, then press the Hot Corners… button, and set one or more active screen corners to Start Screen Saver — that will allow you to move your cursor into one of those corners to lock your screen.

  • MYSQL backup, mysql -e "FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK" doesnt work

    I want to backup mysql locking tables first using flush tables with readlock, then do rsync and then unlock tables.
    I want to do it automatically using script.
    When I log in to mysql using: mysql -u root -p
    the command:
    FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK;
    works and locks the tables...but when I create my.cnf with login information to mysql:
    [client]
    user=root
    password=xxx
    the command:
    mysql -e "SHOW DATABASES"
    works and shows the databases....
    but when I run this command:
    mysql -e "FLUSH TABLES WITH READ LOCK"
    it doesnt lock the tables...why?
    thanks

    Are calling the 'mysql -e' command as your user or as root? If you call it as root (typical for a backup script), then the .my.cnf file needs to be in /root instead of $HOME.

  • Is my Iphone 4 really locked after I lost it and requested lock thru icloud?

    I've lost my IP 4 2 days ago in a park. 1 hour after I noticed it i tried to reach it, the telephone was offline, searched the places I've been, couldn't find it anywhere somebody probably took it. I also couldn't locate it on find my Iphone, so I checked the request to receive an email when it is located. 24 hours after loosing the IP I've received an e-mail from iCloud that the telephone is located and that is now locked. Is that really true? The strange thing was that I've lost it (or it was stolen) in the park around 2:30 am (tuesday), and then after more then 24 hours (5:11 am wednesday) I received an e-mail like that? It's simply unbeleivable that somebody waited in the park more than 24 hours to turn on the IP, especially when the SIM card was deactivated and that person couldn't use mobile internet or WI-FI . Can I somhow doublechesk is my iPhone really locked?

    Thank You for the welcome.
    Well, there is no wi-fi in that region so I don't see how it could connect to the internet. The main point is can I trust that the phone is lock... that's my only concern now. I crossed over the phone, but wouldn't like the thief to transfer or do anything with my pictures, videos, contacts etc.

  • MacBook Keyboard Caps Lock and Num Lock are working in reverse!!!

    Ok, this sounds very strange...my keyboard on my MacBook only works when both the num lock and caps lock keys are depressed (so the green lights are illuminated). if the num lock is off then the keyboard does not work. if num lock is on and caps lock is off then the keys only type in ALL CAPS. if both num lock and caps lock are on (green lights) then the keyboard behaves as it should--except it's supposed to be that the num lock and caps lock keys should be off! I've checked system prefs for keyboard and mouse and for universal access, i've reset to defaults, i've restarted the machine...NOTHING works!
    Has anyone ever seen this before? Any clue what to do?
    thanks
    Mark

    Do computers have child diseases? My computer's immune system now seems to have taken care of the caps lock/num lock problem. I haven't had any inverted startups in weeks now. Very strange!
    In my experience, the treatment is to ignore the fact caps lock/num lock is lit, and to restart the computer. If you need to log in to restart, do it as if startup was normal, since caps lock/num lock is not actually turned on.
    And hope for the natural healing.
    Does anyone have different experiences?

  • Minor Keyboard Issue: Caps Lock and Num Lock indicator lights are wrong.

    For a few hours, I have been having a small issue with my PowerBook G4 keyboard. The green indicator lights for Number Lock and Caps Lock are indicating incorrectly.
    Thus, in order to be able to type lowercase, I must keep the Caps Lock key light on, which subtly annoys the **** out of me [Apple edited out "heck" ]. Num Lock is worse, because I can actually see it; it isn't usually covered by my left hand. Very distracting.
    Rebooting did not resolve this issue. Neither did monkeying with the Keyboard system preferences. If I could just turn the lights off altogether that would be fine with me.
    This is a recent 15-inch PowerBook G4 1.67 Ghz, with the dual-level dvd burner and (I believe) the internal keyboard is USB, now, instead of ADB as (I believe) many of the older ones had been, so many of those hacks like fkeys and Ucontrol and so on are not options (I believe).
    Any ideas? Thanks,
    Nick

    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.4)   15 inch

    I finally got it working again, I took the power out and the battery out while it was running. I made sure there were no USB/FireWire/PC-Card stuff connected when I did this. When it booted back up it was normal again.
    I also figured it happened because I put in a kyocera EVDO pc card into the laptop while it was in sleep. When it woke back up it went nuts and had to be rebooted several times.

  • Keyboard stuck on Num Lock

    All of a sudden while typing my keyboard switched to num lock (as far as I'm aware I didn't activate it).
    The num lock key wasn't glowing green!
    I tried to press it but keyboard was still stuck on num-lock.
    Luckily restarting has got the keyboard functioning 'normally' - but I was worried it would not accept my password.
    Is this a sign of worse things to come?

    You may not be alone with this problem.

  • Dead lock and Blocking Lock

    I would like to understand what is major difference between Dead Locks and Blocking Locks in Oracle. If someone could explain or point me to good web Link I would really appreciate
    Thanks.

    Tony's advise is very good.
    In simple terms a blocking lock is a lock being held by one session that is preventing another session from performing an DML operation on the same data until the holding session commits or rollbacks.
    A deadlock is a situation where two or more sessions lock data in such a manner as each session is waiting on a resource held by another session so that none of the session can complete their unit of work. That is session A locks row 1 then session B locks row 2 followed by session A attempts to lock row 2 while session B now attemps to lock row 1. Neither session A or B will ever be able to complete thier transaction releasing the locks and allowing waiting sessions to process since each session is waiting on a resource that the other session has while holding a resource the other session needs. In other words a deadlock. Oracle detects deadlocks and kills one of the sessions freeing resources.

  • My iPhone 5 keeps freezing when I connect to wifi, not just freeze the wifi, but freezes the whole phone and have to hold home and lock button. Locks up completely and instantly when I turn on wifi and connect. Solutions?

    My iPhone 5 keeps freezing when I connect to wifi, not just freeze the wifi, but freezes the whole phone and have to hold home and lock button. Locks up completely and instantly when I turn on wifi and connect. Solutions?

    1.  If you are really on iOS 7.1, you may wish to try upgrading to 8.1.2 which is the latest (basing this on your signature).
    2.  If updating the phone doesn't help, is this only when you connect to a specific wifi network?  Or all wifi networks (including public with no password)?  If it is ALL wifi networks, you may have a hardware problem.  Genius bar would be the next step.

  • Cap Lock and Number Lock

    I recently upgraded my MacBook to Leopard two days ago. Just a few minutes ago, I needed to hard restart my mac (i've been having problems with this, i'm having it checked on fri. in the genius bar). I noticed when it restarted the num lock and cap lock button lit up. When i press them again to turn off the light. my "letter" buttons can only type with numbers. When i have the num lock on the keyboard works fine. Same with the cap lock button. It needs to be on in order for the letter NOT be capitalized. Is there a way to fix this?

    I guess it was glitch. I restarted my computer and it works fine.

  • Error message - Conduit Manager Volume is Locked/File is locked

    Just bought a new Tungsten E2 and tried to sync to my new Mac OSS .51.  When I try to sync, I repeatedly get a message saying "Conduit Manager, Volume is locked."  After clicking "ok" about 5 times, I get a message saying "File is locked."
    Also, which connection should be selected from the available connections in preferences?

    I just found the answer on another site since I had the same problem with my Zire 72.  It worked fine and then didn't.  Here's the solution from that site cut and pasted below.  I've included the person's name who had the solution on the bottom so he gets credit.
    However, there are times that your userdata really locks up on you due to some minor application duplications. If ever you experience this problem:
    1. Search for "user data" file. Get info and then checked if the data is locked. If data is locked, unlock it.
    2. Go to Sys Prefs. Go to accounts. Under My Accounts, check startup items. Try to check if you have Palm Desktop Background and Transport Monitor. If you have duplicates of both or triplicates, delete them. Make sure that you only have one for each file and the type is "application".
    3. Search for "com.palm.HS" files. delete those files. restart your mac and you're up and running.

  • /etc/gshadow: lock:!:: or lock::: ?

    After an update, I was notified that my /etc/group and /etc/gshadow were inconsistent. I must have goofed during a manual update at some point, as there area two entries for the lock group.
    In /etc/group, I have duplicate lines like so:
    lock:x:54:
    lock:x:54:
    In /etc/gshadow, I have slightly different entries:
    lock:::
    lock:!::
    For all the googling I can muster, I can't find an up to date /etc/group example to know which one to keep in /etc/gshadow. There's some similar posts but they don't end conclusively. The wiki doesn't really explain what all the group fields mean like it does for user management; nor does it specify how to tell if a group entry should have an empty second field or a "!". My gshadow file has instances of both, so I'm not sure which lock should have.

    @stewie: thanks for the tip.
    encrypted password
    Refer to crypt(3) for details on how this string is interpreted.
    If the password field contains some string that is not a valid result of crypt(3), for instance ! or *, users will not be able to use a unix password to access the group (but group members do not need the password).
    The password is used when an user who is not a member of the group wants to gain the permissions of this group (see newgrp(1)).
    This field may be empty, in which case only the group members can gain the group permissions.
    A password field which starts with a exclamation mark means that the password is locked. The remaining characters on the line represent the password field before the password was locked.
    This password supersedes any password specified in /etc/group.
    Having read that, it's not entirely clear how this plays out practically. An example would be awesome. My point is:
    - Empty field: a password can gain access to the group-owned files by those outside the group... but the password field is empty, so what's the password it's talking about a non-group user providing?
    - !: no password can gain access to the file.
    Not being a *nix guru... I'm still left with my question: should the lock group have an empty or locked password field?
