Keyboard Manager (under Windows XP) spamming System Debug Output

When running Windows XP, the Boot Camp keyboard manager (kbdmgr.exe) spams the system debug output every 500 ms with a message like "0.620690".
This is inconvenient for a developer. Often I need to check out debug output in order to accomplish some task. But as soon as I start a Debug viewer application it gets flooded with that kbdmgr messages. That is more an annoyance than a problem.
Is there a way to tell Keyboard Manager to start and remain silent?

Yes, running the 2.1 drivers. KbdMgr.exe says it is 2.0.2.44 (exe version/build number) and Boot Camp systray app says it is 2.1 Build 210A12. Took another screenshot showing these version numbers:

Yes, you are right. I am filtering out those messages. The sad side is that I have to do that once each boot. And I did that so many times that I got really annoyed.

  • Important Hints on Color Management under Windows XP!!

After struggling for several hours, I have learned a couple important tidbits I have not seen elsewhere in these forums. As much confusion as I read in here about color management and color issues, this might be quite important to some.
If you want to skip the story, jump down to the last few lines of this entry for the summary.
I recently built a new computer, and when I copied my catalog over to the new drive and opened it, all my files as viewed in Lightroom had a distinctly "yellow" tinge, as compared to their exported JPEG brethren (as viewed in Windows Explorer thumbnail view). I realized, aha, I haven't set up color management on the new system yet, so this is to be expected. Lightroom internally uses a different color space than XP, so without some color management they won't match.
Well, after going around and around setting up monitor profiles and so forth, I was getting nowhere. Nothing was changing the appearance of the yellowish images in Lightroom!
Abandoning the effort for the time being, I switched to other tasks, and imported an old catalog to see if I wanted any of the old work before I deleted it. Then i did a double take... my color problem was fixed! Could color profile info be stored with catalogs? Surely not.
So I started experimenting. Removed all monitor profiles. No change. Switched back to the newer catalog. The colors changed. Put the monitor profile back. No change. Restart Lightroom. No change. Click load catalog, and then pick the same catalog I'm on. No change. Load the old catalog, the colors changed. After several rounds of experimentation, I am now sure of the veracity of this new discovery.
Here is the moral of this story, in two bullets:
    (1) Some color management changes in Windows XP are only apparent in Lightroom when you load a catalog. Even restarting Lightroom, or restarting Windows isn't enough. Only loading a catalog makes the changes show up.
    (2) You can't simply reload the catalog you are on. You have to load a different catalog, so Lightroom offers to Relaunch, in order to get the changes.
    I hope this helps someone.

Since Windows Explorer is not managed, they will NEVER match, even if you use sRGB in your exported jpegs as you should. This is even true if you calibrate your monitor. You can only get a complete match when your monitor's primaries correspond precisely to sRGB, which basically never happens. In unmanaged apps, calibration only impacts the contrast (i.e. gamma and blackpoint) of the monitor. This is why the use of managed apps is so important.
    >So I started experimenting. Removed all monitor profiles. No change. Switched back to the newer catalog. The colors changed. Put the monitor profile back. No change. Restart Lightroom. This is weird. Lightroom for me always picks up on a new monitor profile after a restart. I don't need to load a different catalog. Definitely not normal and unexpected behavior.
    >How could a monitor profile do this? Monitor profiles effect the image as it's sent to the monitor, so how could LR even "know" what monitor profile is selected? This still isn't making sense to me.
Actually it does have to know. The way color management is implemented on windows (and Mac OS too), is that apps are responsible for doing the translation to the monitor profile. The OS just tells the app about the monitor profile and the app can deal with it as it pleases. This way the app can either use a system library such as ColorSync or the windows equivalent, or its own profile conversion code such as all Adobe Apps do. This is why unmanaged apps are not suddenly magically corrected. The only thing that gets corrected for unmanaged apps is the grey response because this is handled by a LUT (lookup table) in the videocard.

  • Patch Management under Windows networking envirionment

Hello.  I'm new to the community.
Is there a utility to install flash player to workstations from a centralized location?
Our problem is that users do not have administrative rights to update their flash player.
Any information would be a great help.

There are probably many commercial applications that provide that utility for enterprise systems. Generically not just for windows.
I suspect you can also do it with standard Microsoft services/products.
    There are probably free versions.

    Hi there,
could you please tell me what this max time managment software is? I googled for it and couldnt find anything, so please tell eventually the name of the software manufacturer of this specific software.
Otherwise I would suggest you using the toshiba powersaver because the powersaving settings/features can be set very detailed..

  • Often, Firefox app will close, but the underlying Windows process will not and cannot be stopped via Task Manager. When this happens, Firefox can no longer be used...the system must be rebooted.

    Hello,
Often, the Firefox app will close, but the underlying Windows process will not and cannot be stopped via Task Manager. When this happens, Firefox can no longer be used...the system must be rebooted. This happens especially when many apps are running but even though there are plenty of memory resources available.
I have tried to find if something is using Firefox in the background, but have no way to know what that would be.
Their are no apparent viruses detected.
Firefox is version v5.0 and occurred in earlier release.
    System is Windows 7 (64bit).

well, it's not the same hardware and it's a bit different.
I managed to pass that stage somehow but I still have a problem
I don't use the built-in creator tool that comes with Spyrus as it doesn't know how to append a pre-staged media that was created by SCCM that should apply the Windows file system to a second partition and the WinPE to the first partition.
I managed to do everything. my only problem is that the WTGCreator that comes with SCCM 2012 R2 creates the 350MB partition with FAT32 file system.
when I boot from the device I get the WinPE, I can choose a task sequence and then it fails when trying to apply the wim file. the error tells me that the 350MB partition is FAT32 which is not supported (even though it chooses the second partition, which
is all the rest of the disk space)
what I did was adding another task that converts the 32 Fat partition to an NTFS partition and then the process continues and finishes successfully! but that's a workaround.
I'm trying to make this process as smooth as possible without having additional steps

  • Apple Wireless Keyboard under Windows 7 pairing but not responding

    Hi all,
I'm having a strange issue getting my Apple Wireless Keyboard to run on my new HTPC under Windows 7 (64 bit). I can get Windows' bluetooth manager to detect the keyboard, and I can input the pairing code, following which Windows seems to install a bunch of drivers, but then I get no response from the keyboard at all.
The thing I find strange is that the keyboard works when I punch in the code numbers, but never before or after.
I also have a Magic Mouse which works perfectly.
Once paired and installed, the keyboard is displayed in Windows' driver manager as a "Bluetooth Peripheral Device", so I'm wondering if the issue is that Windows isn't recognising the device as a keyboard.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks heaps, in advance.

After 3 frustrating hours of trying every tip on the net, I found the answer: Try this.
"This finally fixed it for me: Device Manager - Open System Devices, you will find a Bluetooth HID Device. Double Click it, open Driver tab and click "Update Driver" Select Browse my Computer, then "Let me Pick". It should now show TWO compatible drivers with exactly the same name. One of them is the Microsoft one, one is the non-working Chinese ****. Install one of them and see if the driver properties changed to the right (Microsoft) driver. If not, try again with the other one. For me, the Microsoft driver was the first one in the list, but this may be different for you. Wow, an annoying and intense hour of trouble shooting finally over..."

The issue is related to the Chinese version of the driver that the latest windows update applies that stops the keyboard from working.
I'm typing this on the Apple Wireless Keyboard on Windows 7 64 bit on my PC. Finallly!

  • Need to Lock down Keyboard Manager System Tray Icon

I run 27 MacBooks at a Secondary School. I have them setup for Windows XP Pro (I'll be setting up the Mac OS over then next few weeks but this is a MS Windows School so lets start slow). Hoever I need to be able to disable the "Boot Mac OS" option on the Keyboard Manager. But still have access to Volume and Eject etc Keys.
    Solution: 1
a .adm file so that I can contol what is avilable to students through Group Policy (disable reboot in Mac, Disable Boot Camp First time Run Help Screen)
    Solution 2
A Keyboard driver that will make all the Keys work (and remote if possible) but has no System tray Icon
    Solution 3
Hide the System tray icon (as say an option in the Boot Camp Control Panel which I can already disable through group policy) then all I need to kill is the anoying first time run help screen.
The help screen is anoying because for each of the 800 student will probably only login into each laptop once each so that will come up every time, because I reimage every 3 months or so.
The reboot in Mac OS would be no problem if it did not perminatly change to boot order and the Mac OS side boot change back is too complicated for most first time Mac users. The way I will be introducing the Mac OS is telling them about the hold the "option" key trick on boot. hence the dummys will get what they are expecting, and the smarties have the option without afecting the dummys.
I relise this is a Devolopers thing but I can find no other way to inform them of the need. I dout I am the only System admin needing this.
    Thank You

Unfortunately no that did not help
Using msconfig only stops the Keyboard Manager from running. I can do that simply be removing it from the registry with out the annoying msconfig messages. (good for testing though)
I have also looked into the Hide tray Icon Path but that only tucks it behind a set of “<<”
And the reboot function does Permanently Change the Boot Order. (Not the boot sector necessarily, The Boot Order) to change it back you need to login into the Mac OS and System Prefs Disk Boot Select the Boot Camp Part and Reboot …… Big Pain in neck.
The Keyboard Manager icon does not have an eject option… If is needed for the Eject Key to work (and the Volume Mute, Up, Down, Brightness Up, Down. Note it is not Needed for the Play FF Rew Keys they work fine with the Fn Key)
    Here is the test
With no icon showing, or an icon with no reboot option : Press The Eject Key if the CD Ejects Success, I also need Volume do not care about the others as much
As Stated this is a Developer( Programmer) oversite and needs them to put in an option to remove the reboot option from the System tray Icon. Removal of the Icon would also be desirable
    Thank You

  • Problem with running contract manager under WLS as windows service

I am having a problem running Contract Manager V13 as a windows service. I am using weblogic 10gR3 app server running under Windows 2008 sp2 (32 bit). The system functions just fine if run as an application from the command line. When I use the Oracle install contract manager as admin server (using jrockit) script from Oracle support, the service installs OK, but when starting I get:
+"The contract-mgr-svc-jrockit service on Local Computer started and then stopped. Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs."+
Has anyone run into this problem of windows services not working? If so how did you fix it?
How are others starting contract manager automatically under Weblogic server, without having to do a manual startup?
I am dealing with this disclaimer from Oracle:
Disclaimer: Contract Management has not been officially tested with WebLogic as a Windows service. If experiencing a problem under this configuration that cannot be reproduced, while running as an application, the solution be to run Contract Management as an application.
and have been working with Oracle support for 2-3 weeks now on this problem without any luck.
Is the situation with using Windows services better if I use JBoss application server? Does Oracle officially support Windows service running with JBoss?
    Thanks in advance...

What account is the service running under? It may be that the service does not have access to the folders it needs, or does not have the right java CLASSPATH set.
Can you try running the service under the exact same account that successfully runs via the command line?
    Cheers,
    Daniel

  • Problems under Windows USB Drivers (Apple Wired Keyboard)

    Hello guys,
somehow I have some issues after installing Windows 7 regarding the USB Drivers: if I install the "Intel(R) 7 Series/C216 Chipset Family USB 3.0 eXtensible Host Controller Installation Disk - 1E31"-drivers, doesn't matter if I do it from Intel's or Apple's webpage, the USB Ports of my Apple Wired Keyboard (A1243) don't work anymore; it says "Not enough power". I have already tried that workaround found on the web, by increasing the output mAh through regedit, but the point is that after installing these drivers, the section "Power Management" isn't shown anymore in the device manager.
I'm having a Macbook Pro Late 2012 with Retina display

Just an idea for you. There is an entire Apple Discussion forum dedicated to Boot Camp and Windows.
Whereas, not everyone here with an Intel iMac has installed, tried to install or has experience with BC & Windows, everyone there has or at least has an interest. You may attract help more quickly there.

  • Firefox does not "close" when closed under Windows 7; Task Manager must be used to "End Process." How do I close Firefox and reopen it without getting a "Still Running" error message?

Even though Firefox has been updated multiple times (currently using Ver. 3.6.13) since I started using Windows 7, I am still unable to totally close it from the toolbar or taskbar. Firefox does closeout on the screen but apparently continues to run in the background. If I open Firefox at a later time, I get an error message stating that Firefox is still running. I then have to go Task Manager to "End Process." Electing to do so allows me to restart Firefox. I never had this problem with Firefox when using Windows XP and I never have this problem with any other software under Windows 7.

  • Rocketfish Bluetooth Keyboard RF-BTKB2 not working under Windows 7 64 bit

Rocketfish Bluetooth Keyboard RF-BTKB2 not working under Windows 7 64 bit
Anyone had successs in this or another Bluetooth Keyboard after a bit of a struggle?  What did you do to get it working?  When I Add Device in Bluetooth it sees the keyboard but enlessly scans for it when I try to select and connect.  The Rocketfish Bluetooth mouse worked just fine.

My friend, i have both, the bluetooth mouse and keyboard here that your talking about. and the keyboard was a struggle to pair with the windows 7 64 bit.... i think i spent 2 days working with it. and i didnt try anything special, i just kept trying to pair
it, and unplugging the dongle and working with it... and after a while. it worked... Lately though, i have been looking into getting a wired mouse and keyboard becuase of the delays and sleep time i have with my current keyboard(rocketfish). supposidly there
is a way around the delays but it disables all the options on your keyboard. IE the media buttons, and web browsing features. and my mouse keeps dieing off too....
Also, after researching these products more, i found that alot of people experienced similar problems with them, Being delays and mouse failure. Even with fresh batteries and all. The products werent meant to be used long term(2-3 years) for extensive use...
I dont know about you but i thinki paid 100 bucks for the pair so thats only 25 bucks a year... Which is kinda silly considering i coulda got a better one that wont cough up on me.
If anyone reading this finds a good wireless keyboard that doesnt delay, and a mouth that doesnt delay...(my biggest concern). Please mention it. i am very interested in.
