Keyboard mess

Hey all...
I have some problems with my MBP mid2010 keyboard and trackpad... The problem is that my keys on keyboard suddenly stopped working, and when I am trying to press some keys the weird annoying noise come out. Almost non of keys are working except "caps lock"  (green light is ON/OFF correctly), 3 volume keys, enter and "delete". Eject key is working as power ON/OFF, when I want to eject CD pop up window is asking me if I want to shut down, restart, sleep or cancel.
The second thing is trackpad.
Since I noticed my keyboard problems the track pad is working like I  am holding "control" key all the time... the pop up window is showing. I have no idea what is the problem, probably some hardware issues.
When I close the display and open it, I fix track pad for a while (15min) and then again "control" + click. Keyboard is not working. I am writing this using external device. The keyboard viewer recognize "build in" keys (when I press any of my keys the viewer will dimmer them).
Do any of you know what could happen ?

You may try SMC and PRAM resets:
http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14222?viewlocale=en_US
Or a last desperate measure, an OSX reinstall. ( with the original install disk)
I have doubts though.
Ciao.

  • Keyboard messed up on Solaris 10 x86 after applying patch update

I have run into a keyboard problem on my Solaris 10 desktop. The keyboard is messed up. When I type root then it echoes as eiir. It is a Solaris 10 x86 system with PS/2 keyboard. The keyboard layout is US-English and type is generic 104 keys. The keyboard works fine in text mode but gets messed up as soon as the graphical login screen comes up.
The output for eeprom kbd-type is kbd-type=US-English(104-Key).
The output for kbd -l is

My keyboard was working fine till around a couple of days back and messed up after performing updates with Sun Update Manager. The patch 118966-21 was installed during that update and so was patch 118844-30. I have not tried uninstalling either of these patches to see if that fixes the problem. Should I?

After reading the log in /var/dt/Xerrors more closely this time I found that it was trying to load module "Keyboard" for the device "Keyboard1" and was not able to find that module. The log was also suggesting that this module is deprecated and I should use "kbd" instead... Made the changes in xorg.conf and things are good now...

  • [SOLVED] External keyboard OK, notebook keyboard messed up

    [HOW-TO]
    Re-installed without external keyboard.
    [ORIGINAL POST]
So, first post. I have no long experience with Linux, I tried Red Hat in the late 90's but switched back to Windows until this year. Anyway, to the problem.
I have an Asus UL30A, when using the notebook keyboard in xubuntu it worked just fine. Using the keyboard in the console it works just fine. It works in GDM but as soon as I boot into GNOME it mess up. The defenition of "messed up" is that some keys seems to have the wrong keycode mapped, most keys work as they should but a couple does not display what it suppose to display. y = 3, o = 4 and so on. Looking into the GNOME Keyboard layout preference you can actually see what they are mapped to, so I can for example see that i = numlock_2 and so on.
My external logitech keyboard works like a charm, I used it while installing the system so I am not sure if that messed something up. Anyway, I tried different layouts, keyboard models, tried installing xf86-input-keyboard drivers, looked into the xorg.conf.d folder but I am now clueless. I have not found anything related to this issue on the internet.
    Any ideas?

Hello, gyller; it looks like your installation with the USB keyboard has somewhat messed up your settings.
If I was having your problem, here's what I would do:
    1) Check which keyboard options to use
First bootup the computer using the built-in keyboard only (no USB one plugged in), then have a look at /usr/share/X11/xkbd/rules/base.lst , where all the keyboard model ,layout, variant options are detailed, and choose which one is the more appropriate.
(Then I would set the keymap for the current Xorg session with: # setxkbmap se  , and check how it's going on with that.)
    2) Back up important Xorg files
I would back up /etc/X11/xorg.conf and /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d in a convenient easily reachable location.
    3) Reconfigure Xorg in command line
Reboot the computer (again, without the USB keyboard) and configure Xorg in CLI, for the built-in keyboard to be taken as the default keyboard.
(Later, after having set it up properly, you would take care of the USB one).
As you're running Gnome, I suppose you're using GDM and not running in command line at boot.
To be able to boot in command line, you'll have to boot in runlevel 1 (you can't make xorg changes while you are running Xorg).
This can be achieve simply by adding the runlevel 1 to your kernel command line in Grub during bootup.
(Reference ; tested and working properly).
Boot your computer, select your Arch distro in Grub, press the e key to edit, get down and select the line where /vmlinuz26 is, and add a 1:
    linux /vmlinuz26 ...root=/dev/sda3 ro 1 or kernel /vmlinuz26......root=/dev/sda3 ro 1
then press the b key to boot your Arch.
You will be in single-user mode and asked for your root password for maintenance.
Enter it and run  # Xorg -configure
(When this option is specified, the Xorg server loads all video driver modules, probes for available hardware, and writes out an initial xorg.conf file based on what was detected.  Xorg reference )
Check here Step 3: Configure X
#Xorg -configure  will create a config file at /root/xorg.conf.new that you have to copy to /etc/X11/:
    # cp /root/xorg.conf.new /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Then install evdev, which, since Xorg 1.8, Xorg-server uses for device detection and which has hot-plugging abilities   (Ref: evdev )
    # pacman -S x86-input-evdev
NB: there's something in the Beginner's Guide that might be interesting:
Note that if you are in possession of a properly configured xorg.conf under another distribution and with the same Xorg version, you may easily copy it over to your current Arch system's /etc/X11/ directory.
Would that work with your Xubuntu xorg.conf?
Once it's done, log out of your root account (# exit) and as a normal user start your session.
    4) Have the built-in keyboard, mouse and touchpad set to be working properly (Might take some time!)
    For this, check:
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Sy … _detection
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Evdev
    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg
    it will need some customizations.
As you're using Gnome, you can install GPointingDeviceSettings from AUR.
It's a very handy way to set up mouse, touchpad, tapping, scrolling, wheel behaviors.
    5) Reboot with the USB keyboard plugged in and have it work properly (Time-consuming too!)
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xorg_multiseat  can give you some ideas about that.
There will be some more configuration work to do with xorg.conf and xorg.conf.d
    PS: http://caulfield.info/emmet/2008/01/add … eyboa.html might interest you.

  • IPad mini 3 keyboard messed up after downloading iOS 8.1.2

I bought an iPad Minim3 yesterday, and downloaded iOS 8.1.2 last night. I woke up this morning, opened Facebook, and went to type a status when my keyboard was like this. It still is. I am able to type, but it's hard. Can anyone help? I restarted my iPad and it died a few minutes ago. Help!

For the keyboard, hold down on the little keyboard icon in the lower right corner and select Dock and Merge.
IF the iPad will not restart, try a reset. Hold down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for aout 10 seconds until the Apple Logo appears on the screen.

  • Keyboard messed up (keybofaqrd messed up)

hi, im using a 2012 iMac w/the default wireless keyboard. it was fine before school but now keys are connected at equal distances(full list:
    1,4
    q,r
    a,f
    v,z)
    so 2 columns directly down. 1 = 14 4 = 14 q = qr r = qr etc
looked under q&r and saw nothing and i get the same thing when booting into windows. no spills whatsoever and theres a slight delay before the connected key is sent and holding down works w/o problem so no clue whats happening any help is appreciated took me like 20 mins to write this

It is cross shorting and needs to be replaced.
If you have Apple Care coverage on that Mac, then take the keyboard to your local Apple Store and ask for a replacement.
If you do not have Apple Care coverage on that iMac, then you will need to buy another keyboard.
To check your coverage, go to > https://selfsolve.apple.com/agreementWarrantyDynamic.do
FWIW, most all generic pc USB and a large number of generic pc Wireless keyboards will work fine with your iMac.

  • Multitouch Keyboard messing up?

I have had problems with the Droid X in the past few months. (mostly because i had no idea it needed to be updated and once i did update it it seemed fine). But now the keyboard just doesnt want to work. I type a single word and then it exits the type screen and brings up the message i am trying to reply to. i then have to exit that 3 times and back out of my message box. then go back to my inbox, re-enter the reply scrren just for it to happen again with the next word i type. i have been having to use the talk to text feature. and while that does work, it lags a lot and i am tired of dealing with it. i have had the phone since december of 2010, is there anyway i can get a new phone of equal of lesser value or something? i hate this phone so bad. (which is a shame because its a good looking phone, just a total piece).

The first thing I'd try is to clear the cache ....  try this. Very benign, unlike the Factory Reset process.
Wiping cache partition-  cures many ills and is better to start with this than a (gulp) full Factory Reset.
    Power off
    Power On Holding Home Key
When Andy with Exlamation Point Shows up Press BOTH Volume keys
Use Volume Keys to navigate to "wipe cache partition" and tap power button to select
Wait for it to finish and select reboot system

  • My bluetooth keyboard is not working properly.

I know that there are several posts about bluetooth keyboards messing up, but I could not find a post that was specific to my issue. I was wiping my keyboard off earlier this evening, and afterwards some of the keys are very messed up. Whenever I type the letter "n" (by itself) it opens a new window in my browser. The command key alone does it as well. When I type "a" by itself, it comes up "ag" lol. There are more variations, but I won't list them all for now. The shift keys do not seem to be doing anything either, nor do the numbers 5,6, and 7. I don't know if there was a sequence I accidentally did when wiping it off that activated this, or if my keyboard is just dying a painful death... The batteries are brand new. I have tried holding the power button down for 6 seconds, and pairing it again (have issues with that when it asks for the numbers 5, 6, or 7 lol). I have reset everything to default on the external keyboards settings as well. I really appreciate any help guys! I use the keyboard only when my macbook is connected to a monitor, so it isn't like a terrible situation... Just an inconvenience
    Thanks for the help!

Did you use any liquid? If so, the KB is probably toast.

  • T61 Keyboard Problems - Vista Ultimate

    Hi,
My T61 is perfect in every way except that sometimes my keyboard spazzes in that, for some random reason (I think it's if I am using an application for a long time), the keyboard messes up and then the characters don't type the normal qwerty etc but say hj*);p etc. instead. I can immediately solve this problem temporarily by closing the application and opening up again, but, this is only a temporary solution and the problem still occurs at random intervals. (I got my T61 last year, and it has happend about 5x so far.)
Before, I thought this was just a bug in the application I was using (Google Talk), but then it recently occured in Mozilla Firefox as well, leading me to believe that there is something wrong with my computer as opposed to the applications that I am using.
Is there any way to solve this problem permanently? If there is any additional information needed, feel free to ask. I'd really like to solve this problem once and for all before it becomes a bigger issue.
    Thanks,
    Amy

I can also get the keyboard in my device browser than it attempts to connect to the computer, but again asks for the passkey. If I don't enter one it gives that the perimeter was wrong, if I enter 0000 or 1234 or any other combination of numbers it tells me this time that the device has indicated that passkey exchange is not allowed.

  • This is a strange one...

For some bizarre reason, while I'm typing something out in chat or something like that, all of a sudden my punctuation marks change to different symbols. If I shut down FF (V 3.6.12) and restart it, the problem goes away for a while and then all of a sudden comes back. (the text I have already typed doesn't change... It's like something gets switched in my keyboard and all text typed after that is hoaky) If I open a Word or Notepad and start typing once this has started the text is all fine... Go back to FF and it's still messed up. I'll try to show a map of what the symbols are transposing to when it happens again.
Ok, Here is the characters on my keyboard messing up (Top line) and the characters they are supposed to be (below) As you can see some seem to be ok...
    |!"/$%?&*()_+ '.É
    ~!@#$%^&*()_+ <>?

    bregent,
    Hello again, my friend!
I understand what you are saying about table order. I mentioned things in that manner because the 'out of order'-ness of the layout matches the out of order in the DB table perfectly.
Usually, the new entries appear at the bottom, but the new entries appear at the top of the table.
Using the option to sort by ID in the plug in's control panel should work. Problem is, my display order is 11, 12, 1, 2, 3, 4...etc.
The datatype of the 'pid' field is 'bigint(20)'
Can the table be refreshed? This is part of the problem with plug ins written for popular open-source programs like WP. No way to fully check things, so we get to be the beta testers. Yee-ha...
Let me know what you think.
    Thanks!
    Sincerely,
    wordman

  • Use different language and Spell check

Hello, just got an iPad to supplement my two Android phones, and like it so far...
Except for one thing that drives me nuts...
The spell check. I live in Scandinavia, but like to use English as my interface language. This causes major problems, when I write something in Danish.
Is there any way to have English as the interface language, but use another language for spell checking?
Also, is there a way to use two different languages in spellcheck? Its really annoying to have English words pop up as suggestions when I write something in a different language and vice versa...

From a user perspective this is wrong UX and lacks total support for multi-national companies, especially when the (national) keyboard layout differs from the (foreign) keyboard layout that is being forced to use if one wants the spell check to be performed in the foreign languge.
Let's take the following example.  My language settings are set to English because I want my interface in English. The used keyboard layout is Flemish (=Dutch) (AZERTY).  When writing emails the spell check is performed in Dutch since iOS uses the keyboard related language.  This is fine as long as I write emails to people in Belgium which do read and speak Dutch.  However when I want to write English emails (and hence would like English spell check) I am forced to switch my keyboard to English (UK).  This is not really OK as switching the keyboard messes up the layout I am used to work with (English -> QWERTY).
Essentially, the selected keyboard (and keyboard layout for that matter) shouldn't have any impact on the used language for the spelling check.  To be honest I can't remember of any application/OS used so far that applies this logic.
I really do hope that this gets fixed in some way (e.g. by adding the option to select the spelling check language) in a future update of iOS.

  • How can I stop my audio message recorder from automatically recording audio messages? I am not even pushing down the button.

I am having trouble with my Messages app. Sometimes the keyboard messes up as I text and I also am having trouble with my audio message microphone. It is automatically recording messages without me doing anything. I won't even be typing, my hand is nowhere near the button and all of a sudden I look down, and thirty seconds of audio has been recorded. It doesn't usually send, but sometimes it sends on its own.
Any insight would be greatly appreciated.

Reset your iPhone: hold down the sleep and home buttons, wait for the Apple logo, let go of the buttons.

  • Software Instrument Went Out of Tune - Please Help

I'm three hours into recording a song on Garageband. I've recorded vocals over a tune I recorded on the Blip Side software instrument (using an Oxygen-8 Midi controller), however Garageband crashed, I never saved properly, and now when I go back to the song, my Blip Side tune is completely out of tune which renders the vocals completely out of tune. I can't figure out how to get it back in tune and I'm worried it might be hopeless. I originally had messed with the Analog Basic settings on the Blip Side instrument and added a Tremelo, getting the insturment just how I wanted it and then I saved it, but now it's not the same. Thanks a lot for reading this and I'd appreciate any help I can get.
    Ryan

Yeah, the entire instrument is out of tune. I've tried duplicating the track and recording on the new one as well as copying the recorded notes onto the new track. I've also tried re-manipulating the instrument settings to try and match what it used to be, but I have no reference for it other than my voice.
It sounds like every note I had recorded got re-interpreted as one ore two notes further down the keyboard, messing the whole thing up. The first chord is now two spaces down on my 15 key keyboard for some reason. What do you mean by transpose?

  • Mini Mac Boots to Gray Screen and thats it

So heres the deal. I got my girlfriend a mac mini core solo for Christmas. She bought herself a LCD and a wireless keyboard and mouse. She got the Microsoft Wireless Optical 3000. She plugged in the wireless receiver and then started her mac for the first time. The keyboard was apparently working, but none of the keys mapped correctly. So, my girlfriend meticulously figured out which key mapped to what and she went through the mac setup process. She got done and was put to the mac desktop. She inserted the wireless keyboard cd and installed the software that came with it. It prompted her to restart and she pressed restart and the mac restarted. Now, it goes to a gray screen, but with no log and nothing happens. The cd drive spins up and goes crazy. I cant get the cd to eject at all either.
I took the mac to my house and switched it out for my mac. I used all known working keyboard/mouse and monitor that I use for my mini mac and nothing happens still.
Please HELP! It was used for 15 minutes!
    Mini Mac Core Solo

    Shaxs, welcome!
Sorry to hear about your gift going wrong.
To get the disc out, you should be able to eject it by starting the Mini and holding down the mouse button until it pops out. Unless configuring the wireless keyboard messed up the Mini's idea of what a mouse button is.
Hopefully you can then boot from the install DVD by powering up while holding down the C key. Again, that might be problematic if C isn't where it used to be.
Since they haven't made the Core Solo model for a while, was this a refurb?
