Keyboard missing keys or not correct function.

my keyboards are mess up, esp the sign keys, it is not in correct when you type it. pls help me restore this, do i need to buy a new key board?

Hi,
If you mean the characters shown when you use the row above QWERTY that can be numbers and Characters it can be a question of which English version you have set up.
In System Preferences > Language an Text >Keyboard Preferences Button I have both British and US set up.
Most of the time is uses the British Set   (As in !@£$%^&*()_+ ) Modifying keys also change these.
Note Shift + 3 is the British £ (pound)  and Shift 4 is the US Dollar sign.
If I Switch it becomes
Shift 3 become the # symbol (which is ALT 3 on the British layout)

  • BUG: KEYBOARD SHORTCUT KEYS DO NOT ALWAYS ACTIVATE A SERVICE (A WORKFLOW)

    BUG: KEYBOARD SHORTCUT KEYS DO NOT ALWAYS ACTIVATE A SERVICE (A WORKFLOW)
    When you assign a keyboard shortcut to a Service (such as a Service Workflow created in Automator) using the System Preferences > Keyboard > Shortcuts, if that shortcut key combination includes the Command key, pressing that shortcut will always successfully activate the Service. No problem there.
    However, shortcut key combinations that do not include the Command key (for example, the shortcut key combo Ctrl-Shift-D) WILL NOT activate the Service in any newly opened application, until you click on the Services Menu option in that application.
    As soon as you click on the application's Services Menu, this seems to bind the shortcut key combo to the Service, and thereafter, that keyboard shortcut will activate the Service in that particular app. But if you then quit and reopen the app, you'll find the Service will once again lose its binding to the shortcut key combination and will thus fail to work again.
    This means that shortcut key combinations such as Ctrl-D, Ctrl-Shift-D, F15, Alt-F15, etc are not really viable shortcuts for Services, because they will not work in any newly-opened application until you click on the Services Menu in that application.
    This bug thus greatly limits the shortcuts that you can employ for Services, because you can only reliably use shortcut key combos that contain the Command key. This is a fault that Apple really needs to fix. This is a very old glitch: I notice it is present in Snow Leopard 10.6.8, as well as Yosemite 10.10.1.
    This bug does not apply to application shortcuts, however, or to other shortcuts in the Shortcuts Preference Pane, just to Services shortcuts (including the Mac's default Services, or any Services you make yourself using Workflows on the Automator software).
    To give some examples:
    The following keyboard shortcuts for Services WILL NOT work until you click on the Services Menu in the application you are using (and they will cease working again when you quit and reopen the app):
    Ctrl-X
    Ctrl-Shift-X
    Ctrl-Alt-X
    Ctrl-Alt-Shift-X
    Alt-X
    Alt-Shift-X
    F1, F2, F3, etc
    So until Apple fixes this bug, the above type of key combinations, that do not contain the Command key, are best avoided as shortcuts for Services. It is particularly unfortunate that function keys F1 to F19 do not work reliably, as these would make great single-key shortcuts to Services.
    However, the following sort of keyboard shortcuts for Services, all containing the Command key, once set up will always work without fail:
    Command-Alt-X
    Command-Ctrl-X
    Command-Shift-X
    Command-Ctrl-Shift-X
    Command-Alt-Ctrl-Shift-X
    Command-F1, Command-F2, Command-F3, etc
    So all the above can be reliably used as shortcuts to Services.
    Here X denotes keyboard keys such as A, B, C, 1, 2, 3, =, \, [, etc.
    Note that even for keyboard shortcuts containing the Command key, you may very occasionally need to click the Services Menu to get them to work initially in an application (notably in the System Preferences application itself). But if this is necessary, it is just required once when they are first set up, and thereafter the shortcuts containing the Command key will always work without fail.
    The above was tested on Yosemite 10.10.1, but most likely applies to other versions of OS X as well, as I believe this bug is an old one. This bug is definitely present in Snow Leopard 10.6.8, because I have observed this same fault in an old Mac I have that runs Snow Leopard.
    I have reported this bug to Apple, so hopefully they will see my report and act upon it. However, it might be an idea if others also report this problem of Services shortcuts not working property, to ensure that Apple get the message. You can report a bug to Apple via their bug feedback page here.

    Exactly where do you want to use a GO BACK "shortcut" in Bridge?  Maybe I don't even understand what you mean by Go Back.  Bridge is only a file browser, nothing more. It doesn't open, edit, manipulate or save files at all.
    Are you simply referring to going back to view a folder that you viewed before?
    Please don't take this a criticism.  As someone who will gladly pay money not to have to learn any shortcuts at all, I'm just puzzled and curious, that's all.

  • USB keyboard shift keys suddenly not working

    For some reason, when I woke up my MacBook Pro this morning, both shift keys on my aluminium USB keyboard were not working. I'm using the keyboard with a Magic Mouse and LED cinema display connected to my MacBook. When I hold either shift key in combination with any other key, either nothing is typed, or there will be random characters typed, occasionally.
    I ran AppleJack on auto to see if there were any problems. There were a few preferences it corrected, but nothing major was wrong. I connected the keyboard to a friend's MacBook Pro, and the shift keys did not work on his machine either. Caps Lock does work. I've tried canned air. I don't remember spilling anything on it.
    Any idea about what I can try to get it working, or is it broken? Thanks,
    -Jeff

  • Stream 7 Keyboard missing keys?

    Surprised to not have an "Esc" key, which is pretty standard on keyboards.  I can live without the function keys, but that Esc is used by a lot of program.
    Anyone have a good workaround?
    (PS: anyone else miss iPad's automatic turn-on or turn-off when you open the screen?  Anyone miss a physical Windows key, which many other tablets use as an alternate on-switch, as well as a way to get to multiple hidden commands?)
    This question was solved.

    You can change to a more complete keyboard. Bring up the keyboard and tap the button in the bottom right corner (it has a kb symbol with a down arrow.) From left to right, the choices are Default, Split, Pen, and Advanced. You can switch kb's anytime you like, even in the middle of writing.
    The advanced kb is nearly complete, missing only the Home and End keys, but you easily achieve those actions with a tap on the screen.

  • Keyboard stuck-keys seems to perform functions instead of typing letters

    It seems like my keyboard is stuck on sticky keys. When i type letters, it performs functions, opens programs etc. I looked in "universal settings" and sticky keys is off. I don't know how to fix it and I can't type letters on my keyboard.

    In case there is dirt or food crumbs trapped under the keys run a vacuum hose over the keys or use a can of compressed air.
    If the above does not work AND you do NOT have AppleCare, take the keyboard apart & clean it.

  • F6 keyboard lighting key is not working

    When I push the F6 key on the keyboard to light up my keyboard, the light graphic comes up on the screen but it does not light my keyboard up and the graphic has the circle with the forward slash through as if it prohibited.  Did I unintentionally disable that key in some way?

    What happens if you try it in a dark place?

  • Iphone keyboard left bottom side not responding/functionning

    The lower left side of my keyboard (including changing to numeric , alphabet 'a' 'q' and arrow sign is not functioning.
    I tried restore from previous backup to no avail.
    My warranty has expired, so not too sure what to do about it.
    Please advise.
    Thanks

    i would advise bringing it to an apple store ad having it fixed that is the only way it should be too expensive

  • Keyboard volume keys are not working

    I had to buy a new keyboard for my imac, and the volume keys won't work. At first they were bringing up things like the dashboard, but I figured out how to disable that in the keyboard shortcut settings -- now when I press them nothing happens at all. I read somewhere else that if you bought a new keyboard for your old mac you have to update to lion to get the volume keys to work?! Is that right? My parents both have lion OS and I really don't like it, so I don't want to update.. is there any way around this so I can stick with snow leopard?

    According to the spec sheets for the Apple keyboards currently available in the Apple Store, "Minimum System Requirements" state OS X 10.6.8 or later -
    Wireless - Apple Wireless Keyboard - Apple Store (U.S.)
    Wired -  Apple Keyboard with Numeric Keypad - English (USA) - Apple Store (U.S.)
    So, if you update to OS X 10.6.8 you should be OK. You can do it in one step via the Combo update -
    Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1

  • Keyboard Even (key down) not working on Mac

    I have been using this AS3 code to detect keyboard arrow presses:
    Global function keyDownHandler(event:KeyboardEvent):void {
        trace("keyDownHandler: " + event.keyCode);
        trace("ctrlKey: " + event.ctrlKey);
        trace("keyLocation: " + event.keyLocation);
        trace("shiftKey: " + event.shiftKey);
        trace("altKey: " + event.altKey);
        if(event.keyCode == 39 ) {
            nextFrame();
            //zoom_pics.nextFrame();
        } else if(event.keyCode == 37 ) {
            prevFrame();
            //zoom_pics.prevFrame();
    stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, keyDownHandler);
    My customer/client says that the navigation isn't working on their Mac. I've published the SWF with an HTML file. It works fine on my PC. Has anyone seen this also? Does anyone have a solution?

    The browser window has to be in focus. Tell your user that they need to actually click on the browser window first, so that the keystrokes will be used by the browser.
    Alternately, you can force the focus by starting your movie with something that the user has to click on to begin. This will bring the keyboard focus to the browser window.

  • Keyboard problem--keys not working

    My MIDI keyboard's keys are not playing sounds. Only the drum pads are working. Is there a reason for this?
    Thanks

    While in your piano roll editor go to options and click on the step input keyboard , play a note then exit out of the keyboard , also make sure your midi in button is on next to the midi out . It will highlight red meaning it is on . This should fix the problem.

  • Default Keyboard Shortcut Keys incorrect

    I have recently noticed that my keyboard shortcut keys are no longer set to their defaults (F4 for dashboard, F11 for volume down, etc.). Even after hitting Restore Defaults on the Keyboard Shortcuts tab under Keyboard and Mouse, the keys are not correctly set (F12 is for dashboard now and the others are likewise reset to another key).
    I have no idea what has caused this change and would just like the default settings restored as it seems even with double-clicking the shortcut and holding down a new key (as per the instructions on the Keyboard and Mouse settings) I cannot restore them to their original functions.

    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
    In System Preferences->Keyboard & Mouse->Keyboard, be sure the checkbox is checked (or unchecked, depending on how you use the function keys).
