Keyboard & mouse become inactive while undocked

Hi,
Whenever I undock my T61, my keyboard & mouse (TrackPoint & TouchPad) become inactive. An external mouse works OK, but, still I don't have a keyboard. Any idea?
Thanks,
Erez

  • Controls become inactive while dialog box is active

    Hello Experts,
I am trying to create two pop-up windows appearing one after another when my program starts. I used two button and single button dialog box. However, while the dialog box is active on the screen, I cannot modify the controls on my VI. Is there any way, I get modify the control while the dialog box is active? May be my approach is wrong, please direct to any relevant post/article on this topic.
Let me know if you need any specific information.

Dialog boxes are modal.  That means that they are in front of all other windows and no access to those other windows is possible until the modal window is closed.
If you cannot tolerate modal windows, then create your own dialog boxes using subVIs which open when called and then close afterwards.  You can make them look like the modal boxes but they can be moved behind other windows.  Of course they can also get lost back there.  Keep that in mind if the response from those dialogs is required before some other part of the program can continue.

  • Keyboard plus mouse become sluggish when phone connects

Both my keyboard and mouse become extremely sluggish whenever my phone connects via bluetooth i have a w800 i am running 10.4.3 also they remain sluggish even after i disconnect my phone and turn my phone off.

Based on the information you  provided, the radio signals may be conflicting or there maybe issues with the ports that are being used.
If the signals are conflicting you can try using a different port, using  wired devices, or moving the wireless devices away from each other.
    Also try these steps below:
Update your Mac at http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n106704 to Mac OS X 10.4.6 or later, if you haven't already done so.
Install the Apple Keyboard Update 1.0  at http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/applekeyboardupdate10.html using Software Update http://www.info.apple.com/kbnum/n106704 or by downloading it from the link above.
If you've updated to Mac OS X 10.4.7  or later, you DO NOT need the Apple Keyboard Update 1.0.  (If the keyboard or mouse becomes unresponsive, you may be able to unplug it and plug it back in to restore functionality until any needed updates have been installed.)
If you have tried both these steps and the issue still occurs, try the Mac support page at the link below.
Copy and paste the link below in  your browser address bar.

  • Camera Raw loses system focus and becomes inactive

While working in ACR if I hover over any of the command buttons, Save Image,  Open Image, Cancel, or Done for a few seconds the "tool tip" for the button displays and as soon as I move the mouse again the whole Camera Raw windows loses system focus and becomes inactive (every tab, control, menu, etc., becomes greyed out).  To regain the system focus I must move the mouse to the windows 7 taskbar and then back into Camera Raw.  If the fullscreen checkbox in Camera Raw is active the only way to regain system focus is to press the Windows Key twice on the keyboard and move the mouse out of the taskbar tray.  This gets pretty frustrating.  Any clues?

It doesn't normally do this, I can assure you.  Normally the tooltips just pop up and Camera Raw stays active.
Do you have any desktop management software installed, besides what Windows provides?
Are your video drivers up to date?

  • Any active window becomes inactive after 10+ seconds.

Any active window becomes inactive after 10+ seconds. This doesn't just affect the Finder. It makes it very difficult to type an email or post to this forum.
No matter what window I select with the mouse, it will become deselected in a few seconds. I've ruled out the mouse and the keyboard. I don't know of any settings that would cause this. Can anyone offer a solution short of reinstalling the OS. I just finished installing my apps from receiving this computer at work on Friday.

I just reinstalled the OS, as Archive Install with Preserve User settings checked, without running System Update to 10.5.1. All is well now. Though I haven't run all of the installed apps since reinstalling. Some of my apps are not Universal Binary (ex. QuarkXPress 6, MS Office 2004, Adobe ImageReady CS2), though that shouldn't be a problem. Right now I will be ignoring the 10.5.1 update.

  • GlassPane becomes inactive after clicking JInternalPane's resize border

    Hi all,
I wrote a program which has a JFrame with a JDesktopPane on it's content pane.
Then I add two JInternalFrames on the desktop pane, and my own glass pane by JFrame's setGlassPane() method.
In my glass pane, I intercept all mouse events for the glass pane and If the event comes up NOT on the JDesktopPane, I convert and forward the event to component beneath the glass pane.
This almost works fine except two problems.
One is that once I pressed mouse button on the resize border of a JInternalFrame, the glass pane stops forwading event. It seems to become inactive.
Second, if I move mouse cursor on the JinternalFrame's resize-border, the cursor does not change to resize-cursor, while it changes to resize-cursor If I remove the glass pane.
Attached is the sample program (in one file) to recreate the problems.
If glass pane is working, the message "forward <EVENT_TYPE> event to <COMPONENT_CLASS_NAME>" will be shown on stdout.
I have a serious and very complecated reason to use glass pane. So I must overcome thease problems anyhow.
I appreciate any idea or help. Thanx in advance.

  • BT Mighty Mouse become skippy when MacPro running intensive applications

my BT Mighty Mouse become skippy when MacPro running intensive applications. Example, I was editing my photos with Aperture while I launch Visual Hub to convert a divx to Apple TV H.264, the mouse point become very skippy or sluggish. when Visual Hub complete the encoding the mouse is back to normal. is this an interfance or cause by running the CPU too hard?

I'm going through the same "issue" actually so I hope I can save you some time.
It's a grounding issue. You can experiment:
    - Touch your Mac Pro system while you're moving the mouse, or;
    - Touch your keyboard while moving the mouse
If the mouse calms down and doesn't try to escape , then you have the source of the problem.
I've read a lot of discussions on this, with people replacing their mice constantly, and even doing a full re-install. So if the above works, then your solution is in figuring out how to deal with the ground-ing problem.
What's more surprising is that Apple hasn't addressed this (it seems) for some time now. With all the gyrations customers go through, you'd think there would have been some type of solution (a recall perhaps?).

  • Keyboard & mouse stopped working

I just recently bought a new iMac i7 2 days ago & installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit through bootcamp. Everything was working fine until Windows installed updates. Now when it gets to the windows login screen, the mouse and keyboard stop working so I can't even type in my password to login.
I've gone through many of the posts here & around the net but nothing has solved my problem. The indicator light on the keyboard & mouse just continue to flash but won't connect. I start up Mac OS & everything works fine so it had to be a Windows update that caused the problem since it was working fine before the updates. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also want to mention, I'm still fairly new to Mac, as I only used it for video editing in school, so please bear with me if I follow up with ridiculous questions while still familiarizing myself with the new setup.

    Hi coolfonz,
for the proper set-up of your keyboard & mouse you'll need to use a wired mouse & keyboard (then you'll have to update the drivers for those wireless probably).

  • Can I control two Macs with one keyboard & mouse simultaneously?

I'm presently the operator and head audio tech for a major Off-Broadway show. I'm running the show on Ableton Live 6 through a Mac Mini, using a MOTU 828mkIII as the Firewire audio interface to the console. "Show control" is basically straight music playback, plus arming and disarming loops, triggering sound FX cues, and stopping and starting playback. The show has been exceedingly stable, no real reason to worry - but the fact that I don't have a redundant backup system concerns me. Theoretically, I can use our Denon CD players to run the show off of discs I've burned, but it's only viable for me because I know the show; a sub running the show would be up the creek - and if we hit a snag and run out of loops, forget it. Furthermore, those of you who've worked with Live know that in a performance based/show control situation, you can remain in an audio loop indefinitely, without any worry of a CD running out of prerecorded loops. (This is a specific reason why we're using Ableton for this show - the music can keep "vamping" until automation and rigging give me the clear to proceed.)
Considering that I'll be taking some time off this summer, I don't want this to be a concern for my sub(s), so I've charged myself with the task of building a redundant backup. Problem is, I'm not sure how to do it.
What I've been looking at is a dual Ableton Live/Mac Mini/Firewire interface system. Basically, to duplicate what's running the show presently, and have it running in tandem while the main playback system goes to the house - but for both to be controlled by only one mouse, keyboard and screen, so there's no delay in the event of a crash. If one fails, I send the audio from the backup into the theatre. There would be no disruption of playback, except for the operator`s response time in switching to the backup`s audio output.
Software like Synergy and Teleport let me share a single keyboard, mouse, and screen over two or more computers - +but only control one computer at a time+. And I've looked for KVM switches and USB "splitters" but they also seem to be toggle devices between one or another computer - which leads me to think I may have to network the two...
Any ideas are appreciated, even the obvious ones, as I may have overlooked some or assumed some to be out of the question.
That`s basically it - *simultaneous realtime* control of two computers from one keyboard and mouse. Both Minis performing the same task at the same time.
Is there software/hardware that can do it, or can I network the backup as a "slave" that mimics the master?
    Thanks.

Perhaps you could setup a parallel processing network:

  • Windows 7 64-bit with Boot Camp 5: keyboard & mouse don't work

Running OS-X 10.8.5 on iMac 27 Late 2013. Everything goes smoothly installing Windows 7 64-bit with Boot Camp 5.0.4 until Windows does its final reboot (after a complete, apparently successful install), and begins the Windows setup sequence. The first setup screen asks for User name and PC name. My mouse and keyboard do not work at this point. Tried cold rebooting: Windows boots up, detects it needs to do first use setup, and gets to same failure point.
NOTE: I have never had a chance to install the Windows support drivers; but the mouse and keyboard worked through out the istallation.
I've tried two different W7 versions: 64-bit Pro and 64-bit Enterprise [Enterprise is not supported, but I have installed it on an iMac 27 2010, and a MacBook Air 2013.]. Both versions of W7 hang at the same point described above.
I've tried a Windows DVD install disk  plus Windows support drivers on a flash drive; and I've tried a bootable flash drive with everything on it. Both fail at the same point.
I have tried both wireless and USB keyboards and mouse. Same failure.
I have even tried removing the flash drive with Windows support drivers before the final reboot. Same failure.
NOTE: when I reboot in OS-X and go to the Startup Disk, the windows option says "Untitled Windows" instead of Boot Camp; but I can select it, and it starts the Windows boot which ends up at the same Windows setup failure point.
Has anyone had the same problem?
Has anyone succeeded? If so, any special actions or ideas?

The issue may be related to the iMac 2013 only having USB 3.0 ports and that windows 7 does not come with drivers for it. Try the following (borrowed from answer on Mac Rumors Forums http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1659481):
    <quote>
If you run into issues with keyboard and mouse not working (due to USB 3.0 and Win 7 incompatibility), you need to run your Win 7 partition (and Win 7 installation disk/partition) in legacy mode. (I found this information at:http://twocanoes.com/winclone/support#faq123 - see "Method using Terminal"). Here you will be setting the legacy on the installation volume of win 7, not bootcamp partition (yet). After running the diskutil list find the volume with installer of Win 7, and then run the command (substituting the disk1s2 below with the information you find through diskutil on your computer:
sudo /usr/sbin/bless --device /dev/disk1s2 --setBoot --nextonly --legacy
Enter administrative password when prompted. Next, select Restart from the Apple menu. Do not hold the Option key while restarting.
You should have mouse/keyboard working. Begin the Windows 7 installation. Upon first restart right after the installer completes, boot into Mac and set the legacy mode for the BootCamp partition (but this time without the --nextonly flag), so you can use keyboard/mouse to complete the installation and thereafter until the USB 3.0 drivers are installed).

  • Using a wireless generic Keyboard/Mouse to install Windows 7?

I am currently using a Logitech wireless USB mouse and keyboard with a new Mac Mini. These are specified for use with Windows PC's, but work fine with the Mac Mini without the installation on any drivers, apparently as generic devices. My question is can I use this keyboard and mouse to install Windows 7 with Bootcamp without them becoming non-responsive at some point in the procedure? The instructions for Boot Camp say to use the mouse and keyboard that came with your Mac, but obviously this does not apply to the Mac Mini which comes with neither.

Thanks, guys, for the replies. You have convinced me not to attempt the W7 load until I have wired a USM keyboard/mouse plugged into the Mac Mini. It's much easier for me to get ones for a PC than an Apple. Do you think these will work generically on the Mini, as do the wireless devices I now have, and get me through the W7 installation without hanging up?

  • Using external HD Cinema display and USB keyboard/mouse with "closed" MBP

I have an early 2009 17-inch MacBook Pro and a ~2007 HD Cinema Display. I routinely hook up my cinema display and an external USB keyboard/mouse when I am at my desk, and I close the lid on the MacBook to just use the external display. When I leave the office (I do about 50% of my work away from my desk) I use the MacBook on its own, often just putting it to sleep while I connect or disconnect the monitor and keyboard.
My problem comes more often when I have used my computer on its own, and I try to plug it back into my cinema display. I have the computer set to ask for a password on coming out of sleep or screen saver, and every so often the computer just hangs when I wake it up--usually when I plug in the external keyboard. When I am able to login, sometimes I am not able to use any of the icons on my desktop--it's almost as if they are not there or recognized by the finder. My solution has been to go into the view options and choose to re-arrange the desktop in some way, and then I can select them again as normal. This is a frustrating solution as 1. it takes extra time, and 2. I loose my desktop arrangement, which makes it hard to easily find what I'm looking for.
Is there a "better" way (order of plugging things in, settings, etc. besides shutting down and restarting) to connect and disconnect my MacBook from my external monitor and keyboard to assure an easy login and use of my desktop icons?

I'm not sure if this is germane, but Apple specifically warns about plugging or unplugging USB or FireWire devices from the laptops while they are sleeping. Doing so can result in kernel panics, crashes, inability to wake up the computer, etc. So specifically they recommend you only connect or disconnect such devices before putting the computer to sleep and after waking it up.
