Keyboard not found

IMac 2.8 GHz Intel core i5 / Mac OSx version 10.7.2
My apple bluetooth keyboard, after one year of use, is no longer being recognized by the bluetooth assistant nor the keyboard setup assistant. The keyboard battery indicator light illuminates as does the all caps button. However, it continues to go unnoticed by my iMac. However the iMac has no trouble locating and using my bluetooth apple magic mouse. I have rotated batteries and have unplugged all connections to my computer and held down the power button for 30 seconds to try to reset the system. Neither of which seemed to make a difference.
What other troubleshooting steps can I take before returning my keyboard to apple to be replaced?
Thanks in advance for your suggestions!

Make sure it's not connecting to another device such as another Mac, iPad, etc.  (it will only connect to one device at a time and cause these symptoms).  If you haven't paired it with another device then it sounds like a hardware issue.

  • Wired keyboard not found

Hi I just did an update (stupidly didnt check wat the update was) of my 10.8.3 OSX (14th May 2013) on a brand new imac and now the wired keyboard isnt found - maybe it's a faulty keyboard but we are talking less than 2 weeks old and i had no problems prior to the update and nothing happened between then and now. Has anyone else had this problem? any ideas?
    thanks

All I can think of trying is to try re-applying the 10.8.3 update using the combo (assuming your Mac didn't come pre-installed with 10.8.3 and you upgraded from an earlier version of 10.8 - .1. or .32 perhaps).
The combo incorporates all revisions since 10.8.0 and using it can sometimes fix odd issues. It's OK to re-install it over the top of what's already there, but I'd recommend you have tried and tested backup so that you can restore to the previous condition if things go wrong (they shouldn't):

  • Keyboard not found after system update

I completed a system update on the iMac, which required a restart.  Now the iMac cannot find my keyboard.  It is a usb connection working fine before the update.  It is an Apple extended keyboard.  The system is optimizing and looking for a bluetooth keyboard.  I unplugged the keyboard and plugged back in.  I ran disk utility twice.  I restarted the machine.  It is still not recognized.  The Bluetooth Assistant has a spinning icon that has run for 30 minutes.  My keyboard does not respond to my typing.  The keyboard is a 2 months old.
What happened? How can I get it working again?
    Thank you.
    Kelly

    Hi Kelly, might try this...
reset FW bus, same goes for USB reset...
    Reset the Firewire bus
If your Firewire or USB isn't recognizing any device.  A solution which has worked for some whose hard drive became invisible in 10.4 was simply to follow these four steps to reset the Firewire/USB bus:
    1. Shut the machine down.
    2. UNPLUG the power lead to the computer and any firewire/USB drive or devices.
    3. leave it for 10 minutes.
    4. Connect back up and reboot.

since yesterday the external bluetooth APPLE keyboard cannot be found.
I use both a Apple bluetooth mouse and an Apple bluetooth keyboard. The mouse continues to work just fine, but the keyboard just stopped working and my computer cannot find it as a bluetooth device. I didn't run any system updates at all- the bluetooth keyboard just stopped working and then I couldn't find it- I get the message "no keyboard found." And yes, the batteries are installed correctly. And yes, I have turned the keyboard on.
This is the control panel I stare at for a long time and nothing happens:
I've read all the available troubleshooting advice from Apple, which is mostly a run down of how to put batteries in the **** thing and run the Bluetooth control panel :-/
    WTH?!

I found a fix for this and it does work. It's so simple I have a hard time understanding why Apple doesn't promote this extremely helpful and easy solution to the bluetooth keyboard problems (I hope you have as good luck with the fix as I had.)

I have a Microsoft Sidewinder X4 keyboard that I use with my Mac, but none of the custom buttons/Media buttons work which is a massive pain, I run OSX 10.9.2 and installed Microsoft Desktop (Intellipoint) 8.2.0 for Mac, But It does not pick up the keyboard!
What confuses me is that If I navigate to System
Preferences > Keyboard > Modifier Keys
Under the dropbown you can clearly see the Microsoft Sidewinder X4 Keyboard.

    RAM: Kingston 512 MB PC3200
    AGP: ATI Radeon 9700 Pro
HD: Maxtor SATA 80 GB Drive
    PSU: Xion 400 watt (14A Max on +12V1, 15A Max on +12V2)
    What I get upon booting:
    PS2 Keyboard Not Found
    CMOS Checksum Bad
    Press F1 to load SETUP
Press F10 to load default values and continue
I don't know what the problem could be. Needless to say, there's nothing I'm able to do without a keyboard.
I have tried booting with everything in the case, as well as on a piece of cardboard (the way it is now). I still get the same error.
I have tried four keyboards. I used two OLD PS2 Keyboards (P1 era), 1 newer PS2 Keyboard (although unsure of age), and 1 USB Keyboard with a USB-to-PS/2 Convertor. No success. All four keyboards are functional in my two other PC's.
Any ideas? I have never tried an MSI board before; I'm thinking that may have been a huge mistake. I've never had these problems before. Is it RMA time?

The motherboard was purchased online by a friend (as I'm simply building it for him). I asked him about this and he said everything indicates that it's new... but you never know. This could have been returned by another user. It was purchased as a Mobo+CPU combo, but still came in a "sealed" box.
I've cleared the CMOS several times during my troubleshooting, but not while unplugging the AC cord. I just unplugged the AC cord, and changed the CMOS jumper. I let it sit for a minute, swapped back the jumper and plugged in the cord. Had the same problem. Now it also adds "Date/Time not set" to the list of errors mentioned above.
    Any other ideas

my PC sign: driver for keyboard filter not found. what can i do?

    Hi:
I don't think it is a big deal but let's see if we can find a driver for it.
Please click on the missing keyboard filter in the device manager. Then click on the details tab. In the Properties drop down list, select the second item (Hardware ID's).
Post  the top string of characters you see in the window.
That will give me more information to go on.

  • My wireless keyboard is not found, My wireless keyboard is not found

My wireless keyboard is still not found after changing batteries. What can be wrong?

If you don't have a wired keyboard to do the following then, first, try restarting. Then if it is found and connected, go into Bluetooth Preferences and make sure it's setup and paired there. In addition, add it to Favorites by clickling on the small tools icon.
Next, check this box in Advanced. You can check Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer. Mine is unchecked because it may sometimes be responsible for waking the computer from sleep.
And you'll be far better off getting a decent wired keyboard. The Apple wireless ones eat batteries alive, and are prone to failure. I have one, but stuck it in a drawer right away, where it's been almost 4 years. Typing on it was horrid, as well.

The IPS 4255 sensor appliance has only a single 512 MB internal CompactFlash module for storage by-default, so this part of the output you posted is interesting:
hda: TOQHIBA THLCD512MBA, CFA DISK drive
hdb: QalDisi QDAF@-510, ATA DISK drive

    hdb: 484848 sectors (248 MB) w/1KiB Cache, CHS=481/16/63
As it appears that two (2) 256 MB ("248 MB") storage devices are being detected (despite the model of the first even containing "512MB" in its name).
I'd recommend double-checking that there is nothing installed in the "External compact flash device" slot located on the back of the appliance. See here for reference: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/security/ips/7.0/installation/guide/hw_installing_4240_4255.html#wp2726
If there is a CompactFlash module installed there, eject and remove it, then power-cycle the appliance and attempt the re-image ("recovery") process once more. If the boot output still contains the same errors for hda and hdb, then it is probably a failing/failed CompactFlash module, so an RMA will likely be necessary to resolve.

    Anyone?

as in my previous post, i found that part of my hard drive directory was corrupt. .ie. short version: there was a discrepancy between what the directory knew to be on the disk and what the finder showed me...
so i did a startup in single mode (command-s) and type fsck -fy at the prompt to do a disk repair. took aout three runs and 20 minutes but after that i got the desired message: disk appears to be ok. i typed reboot which restarted the machine. i then ran disk utillity repair privileges.
    everything now is fine.
note: working with bluetooth keyboard and mouse in single mode worked on my G5 (not sure though if this applies to all models), also fans make a lot of noise, like your machine is about to take off... dont worry)
    hope this helps

Things seems to work, but I'm a bit worried.
It has just started. PS/2 atkbd stuff went fine.

    What should I post?

The systemd build hook looks like this:
    build() {
    local rules unit
    # from base
    add_binary /bin/mount
    add_binary /usr/bin/kmod /usr/bin/modprobe
    # systemd
    add_binary /usr/lib/systemd/systemd /init
    add_binary /usr/bin/systemd-tmpfiles
    # generate sysroot.mount and sysroot-usr.mount
    add_file "/usr/lib/systemd/system-generators/systemd-fstab-generator"
    # udev rules and systemd units
    map add_udev_rule "$rules" \
    50-udev-default.rules \
    60-persistent-storage.rules \
    64-btrfs.rules \
    80-drivers.rules \
    99-systemd.rules \
    map add_systemd_unit \
    ctrl-alt-del.target \
    initrd-cleanup.service \
    initrd-fs.target \
    initrd-parse-etc.service \
    initrd-root-fs.target \
    initrd-switch-root.service \
    initrd-switch-root.target \
    initrd-udevadm-cleanup-db.service \
    initrd.target \
    kmod-static-nodes.service \
    sockets.target \
    [email protected] \
    systemd-journald.service \
    systemd-tmpfiles-setup-dev.service \
    systemd-udev-trigger.service \
    systemd-udevd-control.socket \
    systemd-udevd-kernel.socket \
    systemd-udevd.service
    add_symlink "/usr/lib/systemd/system/default.target" "initrd.target"
    # libdbus needs the passwd info of the root user
    # TODO: make sure this is no longer necessary when systemctl moves to sd-bus
    add_file "/etc/nsswitch.conf"
    add_file "/etc/passwd"
    add_binary "$(readlink -f /usr/lib/libnss_files.so)"
    # udev wants /etc/group since it doesn't launch with --resolve-names=never
    add_file "/etc/group"
Do all of those files exist on your sytemd? I'm not running testing nor systemd in my initrd, so I can't do much checking.

  • Keyboard not responding after OSX 10.7.4 update

I have just installed the OSX 10.7.4 update.
About 12 hours after installation the screen dimmed with a message that I need to restart the computer. I did so and now after startup I get a message on the screen that the Bluetooth keyboard can't be found. I actually have a hard wired keyboard, not a Bluetooth one, but there is no response to keys on the keyboard and I can't get rid of the screen message, even after a restart.
So I can't start in safe mode or anything like that because the keyboard doesn't work. Any ideas on how to get around this?

Thanks for the suggestions, but the keyboard was connected to a built-in port.
When I came back to the computer about an hour after the problem appeared, the bluetooth message had gone and the normal keyboard was working again, so I could log in. I checked Bluetooth in System Preferences and found there was a "phantom" wireless keyboard listed, that I had never installed. I removed that from the list so hopefully the problem won't re-occur.
Not sure whether this problem was related to the update, but from other posts, it appears to have caused a number of issues.

  • Corrupt iPod - Requested Resource Not Found?

I recently upgraded to iTunes 7.3.1
However, when I plugged in my iPod I received an error message saying:
"iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted. You may need to restore this iPod before it can be used with iTunes. You may also try disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod."
I just disconnected and then reconnected my iPod, but still received the same message.
So I clicked Restore, and received this message:
"Are you sure you want to restore the iPod "iPod" to its factory setting? All of your songs and other data will be erased."
I clicked Restore, and received this message:
"There was a problem downloaded the iPod software for the iPod "iPod". The requested resource was not found."
What shall I do? Where can I get the iPod software? Thanks for the reply.

Sounds like you have a drive conflict:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93499
Disconnect all other USB devices except your iPod, keyboard and mouse before you try to change the drive letter.

  • I can't burn a CD from my Mac. Says "discburner or software not found".

I can't burn a CD on my iMac.  Done it a thousand times with no problems.  Says "discburner or software not found".  Ideas?

Could you post your diagnostics for us please?
In iTunes, go "Help > Run Diagnostics". Uncheck the boxes other than DVD/CD tests, as per the following screenshot:
    ... and click "Next".
When you get through to the final screen:
... click the "Copy to Clipboard" button and paste the diagnostics into a reply here. (Use your Ctrl-V keyboard shortcut to paste.)
