Keyboard not letting the PC boot, new build

I have recenlty purchased the system as stated below. I have a problem on powering up the system, I have done a lot of trouble shooting and finaly got the problem identified as the keyboard pluged into it.
When there is no keyboard plugged in I can get to the bios screen no problems. when i put the keyboard in (standard 101/102 PS2 IBM, ) the sysem powers up for a few seconds and then shuts down. This keyboard is fine on my other system and is never been used anywhere else. When the shutdown occurs the LED on the frount pannel flashes on and off, even when the power is disconeced form the board, looks like it is discharging the CAPS. unless the light stops flashing it is impossible to reboot.
I have an older keyboard one of the micro compact ones that comes with the bigger connection. I have an adaptor to bring it down to the PS2 standard. This works fine on the system and i have now reset the bios to the defaults and saved it. Before that i had cleared the bios.
I find it very stange that a certain type of keyboard can do this,,  is there any solution to this. is my power supply at fault here. I have everything disconected from the board bar the graphics card and RAM.
There is a question that has troubled my mind on this build. as i have gone for a rev2 PWS and it does not have a -5v supply. The pin out on the MB has a -5v, does the MB require this???

You are not alone.
PS2 keyboard/mouse causes random shutdowns or doesnt work
There is nothing wrong with your keyboard, rather a hardware compatibility problem with the motherboard.
I solved it by going over to USB and never had a problem since. Not a nice solution but its not worth my time unassembling the system, then waiting 2 months without a system for an RMA to go through.
Feel free to report it to the support channels, I was told that its not a problem - had a feeling that was a standard answer though
