Keyboard not responding while installing Windows XP sevice pack 2

Hi,
I am new to macworld, Just got Macbook and try to use bootcamp to install windows xp, but keyboard did not respond hence got stuck at this point. Please help me. how to make keyboard working while installing windows xp using bootcamp. I know that for non-portable Mac USB mouse and keyboard can be used but whats need to be done for portable Mac like Macbook

I have been scouring the internet on my limited dial-up connection trying to find someone who had a definitive solution to this problem which I too have been stuck with.
What finally resolved this keyboard problem during that critical stage in the win xp setup was by:
1. Going to System Preferences>Keyboard and Mouse and check-marking "USE ALL F1, F2 ETC. KEYS AS STANDARD FUNCTION KEYS (when this option is selected, press the Fn key to use the special features printed on each key)" Before starting up Boot Camp,
2. and Unplugging the Mighty Mouse from the keyboard while my mac was rebooting.
Switching out the apple keyboard for a standard USB keyboard did not work (perhaps in hindsight, i should have plugged it in first before boot camp rebooted and tried to install win xp;)
Attempting time after time again did not solve the issue;
Neither did doing all the software updates, firmware updates and such while borrowing an ethernet cable connection from my local library;
I did not need to find another Win XP with SP2 nor did I need to find a USB keyboard;
Not even updating my Mac OS X from 10.5.2 to 10.5.5 or installing the new firmwares for the Apple aluminium keyboard was necessary it seems.
Just a simple checkmark to make the apple keyboard's F-keys primary and unplugging the Mouse from the keyboard before the WinXP install kicked in, allowed me to press Enter to proceed with the installation.
I also turned off the special functions of the mighty mouse like the center click and roll ball, but I felt obligated to post the solution to this problem - Do as you would be done by.
Hope this helps others who encounter this same problem, please confirm if I am correct. Good luck.

  • My iMac keyboard not responding in Bootcamp Windows 8 with drivers installed

    Hi,
    I'm using late-2012 27.1 inches iMac and using Apple Wireless Keyboard, I've installed Windows 8 on bootcamp for a long time now, all drivers are working fine, keyboard is also working perfectly. Then one day, I decided to install a new controller driver from a software called DS3 Tool and when I installed the controller driver, the keyboard switches off and not functioning, I went over to the Driver Manager and it says my keyboard is offline, I checked the battery and it is full, i tried restarting, still not functioning, so I tried switch to Mac OSX, the keyboard works flawlessly but in the Bootcamp Windows, it does not. So can anyone help me fix this
    Thank you

    Please download BC drivers appropriate for your model from Boot Camp 5.1: Frequently asked questions - Apple Support and Boot Camp: Install or repair Boot Camp drivers.

  • Keyboard not detected while installing

    Hi All,
    I have a HP netserver lp1000r machine.
    I want to install solaris 10 on it.
    The keyboard works fine for installation of other linux distros like Ubuntu server etc.
    It works fine while i am configuring the BIOS.
    Some how the solaris installation program is not able to detect it.
    the keyboard is a normal PS/2 keyboard and works fine on the same machine for other linux distros and BIOS too.
    Can any one tell me how to solve this problem as I am really eager to get some solaris experience. I will be using this machine for DHCP, DNS caching, proxy and other purposes.

  • Apple keyboard not recognized while installing WinXP

    I posted my WinXP Pro installation problems earlier in this forum but I think having recognized the problem: When Bootcamp boots the machine from the WinXP-CD, it seems that my USB-keyboard (tried both: aluminium and old white plastic) is not recognized, meaning that I cannot input anything to tell the Win installer to proceed. The symptom I see is that the green light of the caps lock key is not there. This probably means that the keyboard is not connected as it should be. Could it be that this is due to the OS 10.5.6 Update? On earlier machines and with earlier versions of Leopard I did not have this problem.
    Please advise.

    Same here until my partner provided her usual keen insight - use a Windows keyboard!
    Until you have completed the WinXP installation and then re-inserted your OS X/Mac Install CD 1, Windows can only establish comms with a Windows-specific keyboard, not a Mac-specific keyboard. The Win USB Mac-keyboard drivers contained in Boot Camp are not installed until you start up the OS X/Mac Install CD 1....
    Microsoft Comfort Curve Keyboard 2000 worked for me (~£20). Will probably continue using this when running WinXP for any extended period; saves having to learn new key combinations.
    BTW: I found that once WinXP was installed, downloading and installing the drivers contained in Boot Camp 2.1 from the Apple website greatly improved both control (eg Nvidia driver) and responsiveness of WinXP.
    Hope you (all) find this useful; thanks are due entirely to my partner, bless her.

  • Help please! Keyboard not working after installing windows XP sp3 on T61

    I just changed to windows XP sp3 in last weekend on my T61. From then on, when I turn on the T61 every morning, the key board is not working, sometimes I could not type password. I need reboot several times to make it work. I installed the keyboard customizer utility from some online information, however, it's not helping. I searched the lenovo support website, but there are lots of drivers there,I don't know which to pick. Does anyone had met the similar issue or know how to solve it? Thanks a million!

    I have exactly the same problem. It is not related to docking for me - just regular standby/resume. A reboot solves the problem. Not exactly what you'd expect from a high-end business model. This is the first time in my over 22 years history of using computers that the keyboard fails randomly. Fix this IMIDIATELY Lenovo!

  • Trackpad+keyboard not responding after installing drivers from Leopard DVD

    I've just installed the Windows XP (SP2) drivers from my Mac OS X DVD (10.5.2), just sitting and watching as it progressed. When the final notice appears, saying that I am to press "finish" to exit the setup, I discover that the trackpad is unresponsive and so is the keyboard (I have a 15" MacBook Pro). I tried pressing the "shut off" button on my MBP and it turned off immediately. After starting up again I tried to connect a mouse using both USB-ports with no results.
    I.e., there's no response from either USB port, nothing from the trackpad and nothing from the keyboard. Please help

    Yes same here. Installed new trackpad driver on 18th Dec and the trackpad has had HUGE issues - unresponsive after resuming from hibernation in Vista. Takes about 5-10 minutes to sort itself out. Horrendous!!

  • Keyboard not responding after installing Leopard Server

    I just upgraded on of our old 10.4 Servers to 10.5 and when it boots up the initial setup screen where you pick the language and enter the serial number, the keyboard doesn't respond.  I tried different keyboards, resetting PRAM, single user mode with disk repair and nothing seems to work.  Any ideas on why this is happening and how to fix it would be appreciated.

  • Windows XP Pro CD not recognized while installing windows

    I hope some one can help me..
    I have bought a legal Windows XP pro SP3 cd at my university. I made sure that my firmware is uptodate. I have partitioned the harddisk
    I connect my "external" superdrive bootcamp assistent recognizes the disk and starts to reboot. WIndows installer (blue screen) pops up, starts collecting data... and then says "please insert Windows Cd and press enter".
    Well obviously the Cd is allready inserted, so I press enter same response. If I disconnect the superdrive and reconnect it same answer. Unfortunatly I dont hear the superdrive spin into use...
    So how can I fix this.

    Use the Flash Drive that came with your computer it has Snow Leopard installed on it. If you lost it or cannot find it then call Apple and they will replace it for you, I don't know how much they will charge.
    BTW when installing MS Windows please follow the directions whether you are using Boot Camp or a vitualialization solution (Parallels, Fusion, etc.) had  you done this you would not have had any issues.

    I would use Parallels or VMWare and use the second drive to hold the virtual machine. That way the VM only uses the space that it needs and you can still use the remainder of the drive for other things, not to mention that you would not need to reboot to run windows.
    Also Time Machine does not back up a boot camp partition.

    Number one - you are hijacking someone else's thread. Please read the forum FAQ. The link to that is conveniently located in the upper right corner of this very page.
    Number two - no oracle product is certified to run on Window 8. If you want to run an Oracle product, you need to use an OS which Oracle has certified for said product.
