Keyboard/pad quits working

My MacBook's keyboard and trackpad quit working at random intervals. Once this happens, I am forced to restart using the power button.
After a typical restart, the keyboard and trackpad work, but will quit working within 1 min to 2 hours.
I can connect a mouse to the USB port and that will work after the keyboard and trackpad have stopped working.
I have tried zapping the PRAM, but that does not seem to have helped. I have also checked for software updates, but I am current on that end.
Any ideas? Thanks.

after i updated to ios6 my keyboard shortcuts quit working. how do i fix it

    Try this fix:
Set Documents & Data to Off in iCloud Options
Go to Keyboard Shortcuts & delete existing shortcuts
DO NOT NAVIGATE AWAY FROM THE SHORTCUTS MENU
Hold down the power button to shutdown phone
    Power phone back up
Create a new Shortcut (In my case the old ones were gone but the ones I was attempting to test with came back)
    Test the new Shortcut
    Rebuild remainder of Shortcuts
Set Documents & Data to On in iCloud Options
    Enjoy
I tried all the other solutions I could find and non worked. So I started playing and this worked for myself and a coworker.
Initially my Shortcuts were just in a list form. After performing the procedure above and recreating them they're now listed in alphabetical order with an alphabet selector list just like Contacts on the right. Been working for quite a few days now.
    Hope this helps...!!!

  • Extended keyboard has quit working

Anybody else have this issue? We are now on our third extended wired keyboard. That's three keyboards in about 2.5 years. Think there's a quality issue here?
Yeah, there is. Why wouldn't the quality people assigned to this care? Maybe we're supposed to buy an new keyboard every year? How convenient for Apple. My latest replacement failed exactly one year after the first replacement. Amazing!! One more day and I would have had to put up a big fight. When they work they are really great, but a keyboard, treated gently shouldn't fail in a year, or two, or ten.
Get it together Apple. I'm tired of seeing quality slip.

Please try if a clean reboot will fix it. Remove the battery while the device is ON, replace it after a few seconds and let it reboot itself. Let us know if this resoves the issue.

  • Game lockscreen keyboard sounds quit working

Just posted about my lockscreen and keyboard sounds suddenly stop working and now I have lost all game sounds.  The game sounds were working only a couple of hours ago and now nothing!  What do I do now?!

Have you got notifications muted ? Only notifications (including games) get muted, so the Music and Videos apps, and headphones, still get sound.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad above the volume switch, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. The function that isn't on the side switch is set via the taskbar instead : http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4085

  • My left corner of my track pad quit working. It clicks but does nothing.

Any ideas why the track pad left corner of my macbook pro would stop responding? I've pulled the battery because someone suggested it might be swollen but that didn't help.

Push on the circular area on the opposite end to where the batteries go in. You should feel it move.

  • Lock screen and keyboard sounds have quit working.  The settings are correct and the device is not muted.  What else can I do to get the sounds working again?

Four days ago the lock screen and keyboard sounds quit working, but was able to reset the settings.  Two days ago I had to do this and turn off the device and then restart it to get the sounds back.  Today they suddenly went out and I can't get them working again.  The settings are correct and the device is not muted.  My OS is up to date.  What else can I do to get the sound back?

    Hi there,
I would recommend taking a look at some of the troubleshooting stepd found in the article below.

  • My mousepad suddenly quit working

My mouse pad quit working suddenly. It appears to be mechanically, as in the pad doesn;t seem to be going down to select. Any way to repair or free it up?

It could be the battery causing this.
Take your Mac to an Apple Store or Apple certified repair shop.

  • Number pad on Mac Mini quit working

I have a computer lab of 22 Mac Mini's. The number pad on one of them has quit working, just the numbers. The function keys still work. I have swapped keyboards with other Mini's and the probelm does not follow the keyboard. I have tried both a Mac Pro and Kensington keyboard and both do the same thing. Any ideas how to dorrect this?
Mac Mini   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    Long shot, but...
Open Audio Midi Setup in Applications>Utilities, see the input & output options & KHz setting there, some things will change it for their own use, then not set it back.

  • Keyboard and Touch-Pad Not Working After Having to Install New Hard Drive

I had to install a new hard drive in my HP Pavillion DV9700t that has Vista Home Premium 64-bit.  After going through the recovery process with backup disk the built in keyboard and touch-pad do not work.  During the installation, an error message came up saying something along the lines of "the drivers are not supported by this verison of windows because they are unsigned."  The drivers that had that error were "hpqkbfiltr keyboard filter driver," "HP remote control HID Device," and "hpqkdfilter driver."  I tried to update the drivers for the keyboard from the hp website, but the keyboard and touch-pad still do not work.
My question is, where do I find the digitally signed drivers for the keyboard and touch-pad that Vista won't flag and disable?
    Help please!

    Sparkles,
    Thanks for the suggestions.
When dealing with MS Fix It, I was choosing run.  Upon further investigation on that site, there really isn't a scan that applies to my issue anyways I tried the .NET Framework repair tool, and that seemed to work.  It told me to try re-running what I was having issues with, so I tried running the Windows PowerShell again, but again was faced with the following message "windows update standalone installer encountered an error: 0xc8000247." I went back to the .NET screen and hit "Next" because it didn't work, and that responded by saying they were going to submit logs to Microsoft.  I won't hold my breath on that one.
I'm to the point where I honestly don't care anymore.  I have no idea what to do, because doing a clean install with the discs HP sent me isn't going to help because they are just recovery discs, and not an actual Windows disk.  This is the second hard drive I have had to put into my laptop and use those recovery disks on in the last 3-years.  The built-in keyboard hasn't worked during that time frame on either hard drive.  I don't think the recovery disks I was sent install properly.  Not sure where to go from here.  I spent way too much money on this laptop years ago having it custom built to handle all of my drafting programs, so I don't want to just kick it to the curb.  I was looking into the possibility of just replacing it, but I cannot stand the Windows 8 interface.
I guess I should have fixed the issue with the keyboard on this hard drive before loading all of my programs.  Between the recovery disk install, formatting of the hard drive, and installing all of my programs it took well over 12 hours.  Not really looking forward ot that again Then there's shockwave and flash and all of the other goodies that my recovery disks won't restore anyways.
Sorry if this seems like a negative post, but I'm just tired of trying to no avail.  Maybe I should just take it somewhere to get it looked at, but I can't see them being successful if the recovery disks won't help anyways.
    Thanks for you help,
    MadBuch

    Hi,
does the numpad work in other Windows programs, or is it just the MS Office programs ?
Have you tried the 'clear'-key (the one above the '7'-key on the numpad) to enable the numpad ?

  • My keyboard shortcuts have quit working - HELP!

    All,
Can anyone tell me WHY my keyboard shortcuts—new window, close window—have quit working.
It's a pain in the tuckus to have to open a window with a menu.
It happened suddenly and would appreciate a fix if anyone has the same problem.
    Thanks!

I change my Spotlight shortcut to Ctrl + Space and have no problems. I've never had a problem with use the Space Bar to get the Hand tool.
Try restoring your preferences first before you take the trouble to reinstall. Here's how:

  • Cisco ISE 1.2 keyboard number pad not working in CLI

I cant get a keyboard number pad to work in ISE 1.2 when accesing via the SSH CLI.  NumLock makes no difference and changing settings in my Putty session doesnt make any difference either.
    Anyone got any ideas?

Have you tried to ssh into the router and then ssh into the ISE node? Are you running this on a vm or is this an appliance, by any chance is this the UCS appliance, try accessing the console port through CIMC if possible.
    Thanks,

  • The number pad on my wirelss keyboard has stopped working...help!

    Hi All,
New to macs, I have a new interl-based iMac with a wireless keyboard and mouse. Yesterday the number pad stopped working. The CD eject and sound buttons still work, but the numbers themselves do not - in fact when I use them, the whole machine freezes and I can not do anything. I was playing around in the system preferences yesterday - did I click something I should not have? Or is the keyboard faulty and in need of going back to the apple store for replacing?
I have updated the machine fully, including the latest keyboard update, but the same resulting freezing occurs when I press a number on the pad.
    Any suggestions very much appreciated.

Sorted it - I had looked, but not found any answer through the discussions already posted. But I just found this: http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=3131735&#3131735 and it has sorted it!

To my knowledge, no. If you are near an Apple store take the KB in for diagnosis.
