Keyboard Photosmart 600 wrong characters

When i press the shift + @ keys the quote ( " ) character displays. Alternatively when I press the shift " key the (@) character displays. The rest of the keys appear to function normally. Any solutions?

That looks like keyboard layout is set to UK English....
Here are steps to set it to US-English...
Click Start  , type intl.cpl in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER.
On the Keyboards and Language tab, click Change keyboards.
Click Add.
Expand the language that you want. For example, English (United States).
Expand Keyboard list, select the United States-International check box, and then click OK.
In the Default input language list, click Language name - United States-International (where Language name is the language that you selected in step 4), and then click OK two times.
In the Regional and Language Options dialog box, click OK.

    Hi
    I agree with Sam and Jack. If you watch carefully the keyboard you will notice the keyboard has a small numeric block and all symbols are grey and placed at the bottom sloped keys side.
    Like the guys already said you can enable or disable this numeric block using FN+F11 key combination.

    My wireless keyboard is typing the wrong characters and as a result I cannot log into my profile and check the system preferences?

    That mapping is determined by the settings of your computer.  Go to system prefs/keyboard/input sources and make sure that only US is present on the list (or whatever language you normally use).

  • Random wrong characters appear when typing in Firefox--why?

    While typing in Firefox, random wrong characters appear (e.g. I type "i" and "n" appears). If I go back and retype it, the same wrong character may appear two or three times, then the correct character appears. This happens while using gmail, but also, for example, when entering search terms into Yahoo. It does not happen while using other browsers such as Chrome, and it does not happen using other applications.

    the wrong type characters kept appearing--I
    would type the letter i and a 5 would appear instead.
    This would indicate you have activated the feature which turns the right side of the keyboard into a numerical keypad. It might be Fn-F6 that controls this -- sorry I don't have a notebook and am not sure exactly how this works.

  • Wrong characters appear when typing on this discussion page

    I was using safari on a power book (G4, processor 1.67 ghz, tiger 10.4.7) earlier today to try to download (unsuccessfully) some game demos, Myst IV and Myst V from macgames. Safari was terribly slow. It also crashed frequently and when I got on this discussion page to ask about this, as I was typing my concerns, the wrong type characters kept appearing--I would type the letter i and a 5 would appear instead. When I tried to use the delete button to erase the 5 the it wouldn't move.
    I then got out of Safari and int word to see if I would get wrong characters in a document. The same thing happened. I kept getting a combination of letters and numbers in the document I was typing. I then shut down the power book and turned it back on without being online. I was able to type in word without getting the mixture of numbers and letters.
    I guess I shouldn't use the power book to get on the internet. I know macs aren't supposed to get viruses, but could the problems safari is having be a virus or some other destructive thing? or perhaps my powerbook has a virus? I was planning to upgrade the imac's 10.1.5 to Panther and use safari as explorer doesn't work well with some websites and safari was reccommended. Perhaps I should stick with explorer 5.2
    I have updated to 10.4.7. recently. Is there a safari update I need? I don't remember any of this happening before the update, however I rarely use the powerbook to get on the internet, so it could have been happening before the update to 10.4.7. Also since there is something wrong with safari, is there a different browser I could use with the power book? the imac has explorer 5.2. What about an anti virus program for the power book? Any suggestions or recommendations on how to deal with these problems would be appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Edith

  • Reader 9.0.0 - Clipboard exports wrong characters

    Hi,
    I've been trying to copy text from a pdf file into Windows Notepad.
    Apparently, Acrobat Reader 9 sends wrong characters to the clipboard. Here's some text from AR9 (Android_Apps.pdf):
    "Biometric authen5ca5on system
    currently suppor5ng iris based
    authen5ca5on"
    It seems AR9 changes "ti" into "5". How come?
    Axel Dahmen

    >But yet, doesn't pdf store the original text in addition to ligatures?
    No. There's no capability to do that, and even if there was, no way to
    force the PDF creator to use it.
    What a PDF creator generally sees is a reference to a single character
    in a font. In good cases, the character in the font uses a standard
    like like "fi", "fl" or "ffi". This stuff gets stored into the PDF.
    And there is a mapping into the Unicode ligatures. Acrobat is
    actually fairly smart on text extraction: if you are extracting text
    with a known ligature, and the operating system doesn't support it
    (like using "fi" on Windows) it does generate a pair of characters.
    However, "ti" is not a standard ligature, and doesn't exist in Unicode
    so far as I've seen. This is fancy typography, but a problem.

  • Solution for wrong characters in KeyEvents generated with ALT method

    Hi everybody!
    There is still a problem with KeyEvents coming from a barcode scanner using ALT + NumPad method. Java generates KeyTyped events with random outputs when ALT key is pressed. The issue seems to have creeped in somewhere between JSE 6u3 and 6u10, as in the former it works as expected and in the latter it does not. The problem persists still, we also tested it with Java 8 (on Windows 8, Windows 7 and Ubuntu 14). The actual test client is very simple, the application is only a JFrame containing a JTextField and a JTextArea.
    The old thread: Wrong characters in KeyEvents generated from input of barcode scanner
    My solution is to register a KeyEventDispatcher that blocks the KeyEvents when the ALT method is active:
    KeyboardFocusManager.getCurrentKeyboardFocusManager().addKeyEventDispatcher(
      new AltBugFixKeyEventDispatcher());
    public class AltBugFixKeyEventDispatcher implements KeyEventDispatcher {
        private int i = -1;
        @Override
        public boolean dispatchKeyEvent(KeyEvent ke) {
            if (ke.isAltDown()) {

  • SQL job running DTEXEC.EXE via PowerShell step produces wrong characters in result tables. Running the same DTEXEC.EXE in PowerShell x86 window produces correct results.

    I've created a package in SSDT (Visual Studio 2012) to import DBF tables into MSSQL 2014 via a wizard.
    Source DBF files contain tables with Russian (Cyrillic) characters in records fields.
    Created package works fine, produces correct results (imports Cyrillic characters as needed) while:
    •debugging in VS2012
    •deploying package in SSISDB and running the package via PowerShell x86:
    &"c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\120\DTS\Binn\DTExec.exe" /Server "server\mssql2014" /ISServer "\SSISDB\import\Integration Services Project16\Package1.dtsx";
    But when I create a SQL Agent job with a single PowerShell step that contains the same command and run the job it produces wrong characters in resulting tables. So, the problem is in wrong code page (or encoding). The correct tables with records are
    produced and job runs without errors.
    I tried
    chcp 1251; # 855, 866 -- all of them
    &"c:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft SQL Server\120\DTS\Binn\DTExec.exe" /Server "server\mssql2014" /ISServer "\SSISDB\import\Integration Services Project16\Package1.dtsx";
    in SQL Agent PowerShell step, but with no positive result.
    Anyone encountered such a behavior? How to fix it?

  • [SOLVED]TTY's wrong characters in manpage

    Sorry about last post because I really need a picture to illustrate my problem and it seems not easy to add a picture from local computer in this forum.So,this time,I'll detailly describe the problem in words.
    For example,when I input 'man rxvt' in X,the screen will show some contents,and one line of them will be like followed:
    rxvt, version 2.7.10, is a colour vt102 terminal emulator intended as an xterm(1) replace‐
    However,when I put in the same command in TTY,the last character of the same line will be another wrong character,uh,particularly said is 'E' with a slash above it,so the output is like this:
    rxvt, version 2.7.10, is a colour vt102 terminal emulator intended as an xterm(1) replaceE
    Absolutely,it's just an example above.Actually,I can see many wrong characters('E' with a slash over it) in the manpage(so far I can only find the problem in manpage).
    And I have read a few wiki or some websites but I couldn't find why.Maybe it's hard for me.

    edit:  Read the wiki: "locale.conf contains a new-line separated list of environment variable assignments: besides LANG, it supports all the LC_* variables, with the exception of LC_ALL.

  • Wrong characters appearing - though input is correct?

    On my Mac mini running Tiger, my 2 year old hacked his way into the system, and they keyboard is not typing the correct characters.
    In the International Settings, the correct Input language is selected - although the problem persists even if I am using alternate country settings).
    Opening the Keyboard Viewer show the characters to be mostly math symbols instead of the desired alphabet - if anyone has any suggestions I would be super-grateful!
    Thanks in advance,
    Jeff

    Does it do this in another account? Are any of the keys jammed down so some function is permanently pressed (try with another keyboard).
    A favorite thing to happen is for some feature in Universal Access to be activated, though I don't know of one that would favor mathematic symbols.

  • Apple Bluetooth keyboard shows the wrong letters when pressed

    Hi,
    My apple bluetooth keyboard shows the wrong letters when I write on it. If I press "c", the letter "d" shows on the screen instead. The bottom row of letters mimicks the row just above. I've tried unpairing and paring the keyboard again with my computer and my ipad. Same error. Tried resetting the pram and the smc and it still doesn't work. Changed the batteries in the keyboard and no change. I've removed some plist file (com.apple.BezelService) and its lock file like someone recommended in a youtube video. I've also checked the keyboard settings and can't find anything that seems weird.
    Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix it or do I have to buy a new keyboard?
    /Andreas

    Before you buy a new one, take it to an Apple store (if one is near you) and have them look at it.

  • Keyboard printing wrong characters

    My keyboard on my Macbook recently started typing strange characters, speciƒically ƒ,o which sometimes comes out with a slash thru it, the u is sometimes just a apostrophe, and the capitol ƒ is some other kind oƒ strange character Ï.  Neither the Alt, Control, or Commant keys are stuck.  The special characters is set to Roman, ƒont is Apple casual.  This happens in all soƒtware programs.  What is wrong?????  It's driving me crazy.  Google won't recognize any word I type which shows up with one oƒ these characters in it.

    For those characters, your keyboard is typing as if the alt/option key was depressed, or the alt/option + shift keys.  It sounds like a hardware problem to me.
