Keyboard, power button and mouse pad not responding!

I was just using it normally and all of a sudden the screen is frozen, keyboard isn't responding and nor is it he power button or mouse pad! Please help! I bought this MacBook in December 2012.

Try holding down the power button for several seconds to see if it shuts the machine off, then reboot. If the problem is solved, great. If not, try resetting the SMC. Use the procedure for "a battery you should not remove yourself."

  • All button and touch pad not working except power button

I face the problems that all button and touch pad not working after power on or wake up from sleep state except power button. And i have make the system sleep and wake again so that the mac book air can working as normal( mouse can move and button got response).

Sometimes electrical components needs to have all power sources removed and reintroduced to work properly.  Try performing a hard reset first, if it doesn't work then we'll move to the next step.
    To Perform A Hard Reset
Shut down the computer by going to the Start menu and selecting shut down. (If you have no display, hold the power button down for  5 seconds); (if the computer doesn't power on, move to the next step)
Disconnect the AC Adapter from the notebook.
Remove the battery from the bottom of the notebook.  There will be a switch/button to eject the battery.
Wait at least 1 minute with all power sources disconnected.
Re-insert the battery and reconnect the AC Adapter and then attempt to power on the notebook.

  • What to do if your keyboard and mouse are not responding

What do I do if I were just on my computer and suddenly my keyboard and mouse quit working?  I had a few windows open and I was currently scrolling when it froze.  I forced the device to shut down and when it booted back up, the bluetoothe setup assistant popped up asking to plug in my keyboard.  All my previous windows also opened back up, but still no use of mouse or keyboard.

Could be interference, batteries are going dead or something else.
Keep a wired keyboard and mouse around, in fact one with a nice 3-4 foot cord.
I buy mine from donation places where businesses dump their old rock solid clicky clack USB PC keyboards that are build like a tank, I abuse them too all the time. Drop them, throw them around the room even.
This one I've got, it's over 3 years old and still is rock solid.  Only $4 each.
Rare to get a good used mouse though, really have to buy the newer optical ones now anyway, unless one likes cleaning rollers and the ball.
You need a wired keyboard to execute the boot key commands.

  • Hp touchsmart300 pc shuts down, the screen is black, power button is lighted but not responding?

HP Touchsmart300 PC with operating system Windows 7.
The PC shuts down even when active. The power shuts down although the power button is still lighted. It does not respond to touch, keyboard, or mouse. The only way to get it back on is by unplugging the power and then restarting windows. I already checked Sleeping Mode and Power Options in control panel, but no problem there.

I can totally empathize with your situation, as I too had the same exact issue with my HP TouchSmart 300. In fact, I have been dealing with this problem off and on for the last year. I have worked with HP tech support on numerous occassions. I have had them remotely control my computer and restore it to factory settings. I have reformatted my hard drive 2 or 3 times. I have tried multiple anti-virus software programs, removed anything that might cause a conflict with the operating system, etc. Basically, nothing was working for an extended period of time. And, of course HP tech support as this point to me, was essentially useless in resolving the problem.
It seemed like every few weeks it would start shutting down again. I started researching potential causes and discovered that I was not alone, in terms of the same issue with this computer. From what I read, in many forums like this, it seemed like the probable cause had to do with either the power supply, or overheating. I felt like the problem might be due to the system overheating, so I removed one of the back covers, which worked for a short while. I then removed a second cover, which helped for a few days. I even placed a 20 inch box fan behind the unit to try and cool it down (which still remains in place). However, my computer would just keep shutting down over and over again.
Finally, as I was long ago out-of-warranty, I just decided to completely open-up the back of the unit and poke around a bit. I cleaned out all of the system fans, reseated my memory cards, and ran the computer for a few days with all of the covers removed from the back. It would still keep shutting down. However, I did notice that the heat sink and attached copper tubing were pretty hot (even with the 20 inch fan blowing directly on them). So, I removed the heat sink apparatus from atop the CPU. I discovered that the thermal gel was pretty much long gone, and what was left of it was not so evenly applied. So, I ran over to the nearest computer store, and purchased a tube of thermal gel (for about eight bucks). I found some rubbing alcohol and cotton swabs in the house, and proceeded to use those to carefully remove the old dried-up thermal gel from the top of the CPU chip, as well as the heat sink plate (if that is the right word for the part). I applied a fresh even layer of thermal gel to the top of the cpu and placed the heat sink back on top. I turned the system on, and it has been running smoothly ever since (about 2 weeks without a single shut-down). I have even noticed an increase in performance. The top of the heat sink is noticeably cooler to the touch now.
I realize that your situation may be different, but if your system is out-of-warranty, you might consider this option. It seems to have resolved my problem. I will repost an ocassional update if anyone is interested, thanks.

  • Mouse pad not responding?

The mouse pad on my G4 12-inch powerbook has recently been unresponsive for about 20 seconds after "waking" my computer up from sleep mode....anyone else have this problem or suggestions? Also even when I have just one finger on the pad, it thinks i have two and does the scrolling motion.....?

if you have OS X install CD, put it in, restart and hold "c" on keyboard.
PowerBook will start up from the CD, see how trackpad responds.
if it's doing the same thing, problem could be with the PowerBook trackpad.

By the way the volume rocker is also not responding. Please help me out. Thanks in advance.

  • Mouse and touch pad not responding/working?

the entire touch pad doesnt work when using the computer. also when a mouse is plugged in that doesnt work either!...... but both work fine when in the lenovo help section, (when pressing the lenovo help button) they only dont work from the login section and when logged in.
    HELP!!!

I am facing similar problem. However it is little different. My touch pad stopped working just within 3 months after buying this product. Now the problem is no body is taking responsibility of this kind of problems customers are facing. Here the real problem is my blue light at the touch pad has also stopped working.
I believe it means, it must have some hardware problem. Now it is almost more than 8 months to this product and am still struggling with this problem. The only good part of it is, here my usb mouse is still working.
One more thing i would like to know here, how can i find lenovo help key you mentioned in your querry? Please guide someone to get rid of this problem.

    Hello,
have you installed all recent windows updates like SP3?
What kind of mouse are u using? The normal ultranav on your TP or a third party mouse? Bluetooth or cable?
Some bluetooth mice are disconnecting after some time, also your USB port, when on battery can switch off to save energy.

  • TS1425 My IPod will not allow me to return to the beginning.  I can press the menu button and it will not respond.  I have also tried to reset by pressing both the menu and center but ther is no response to it.  Help!

The wheel on my IPod nano, 5th generation is unresponsive when I try to use the menu part to go back to previous books.  It's also unresponsive when I try to reset by pushing the menu and center in at the same time.  Can anyone help?

If you have double checked to make sure the hold switch is not activated, it may be a hardware issue with the iPod's click wheel, meaning you'll need to have it serviced.
Before doing that though, it might help to try and restore to factory settings in iTunes as well to rule out a software issue.

  • My keyboard and mouse pad aren't responding

When I started my Macbook this morning the keyboard and mouse pad didn't respond.
In my office I use a USB-keyboard and MightyMouse and it seems like the MB still thinks they are plugged in. Now I have attached a different keyboard and mouse but the computer still behaves as if I am using my office keyboard.
    What should I do?
PS: This happened after I installed the latest update. Could this have something to do with it?

Try going to System Preferences>Keyboard & Mouse>Trackpad> and toggling (check and then uncheck or the reverse) the option "Place two fingers on trackpad and click button for secondary click". I have my system set to safe sleep (hibernatemode 1) instead of the default sleep and the trackpad doesn't appear to load correctly on wake from sleep and the keyboard sometimes fails to respond. Doing the previous appears to reload the trackpad or at least makes it function correctly.
As for the keyboard functionality, I run my fingers across the rows of keys and within a minute the system recognizes the keyboard. The keyboard failure is rare, that trackpad is constant. this has happened since 10.4.6 and I don't know if it always did or is a regression.
For the keyboard section you may want to check System Preferences>International>Input Menu and try toggling the keyboard layout.
If you have a third party driver that may be causing an issue because I'm not sure how a Mac keyboard should work differently from any other keyboard with the right buttons.
    Good Luck,

  • Keyboard and mouse pad do not work; authorised service?

the keyboard and mouse pad on my new macbook (3 weeks old)have stopped responding. I have tried everything to restore it except reinstalling the operating system. The disk utility and hardware test do not show any problems, and when I attach an external mouse and keyboard the computer works just fine. Can this problem be anything other than a faulty connection or lose wire?
I live in Venezuela and will have major problems getting the mac back to the US (where it was purchased) for service. Apparently there are "authorised service providers" here in caracas; does that mean they can work on my mac without me losing the warranty?
    thanks for any help..

Huh...I've never managed to do what you have, so I'm a bit out of ideas...
That being said, if a customer brought me a machine in that condition, I'd boot from a "live" Linux CD, save all important data on an external drive, wipe the HD clean and install a fresh OS.
    Good luck.

  • Mac Book Pro Keyboard, Track pad not responding at login page

URGENT! URGENT! I´m currently in the middle of the amazon shooting a documentary and my Macbook Pro boots up to the login page but I cannot nothing appears on the login line when I type, and my track pad in not responding. Keyboard and track pad dead. However, I can hit the control-apple-power button and get the shutdown-restart-sleep sceen. I plugged in my usb mouse and that works--track pad does not.
I have rebooted, with power supply, without power supply; removed-replaced battery; still the same problem, boot to login screen--now keyboard, not track pad.
    Any suggestions?

I also have this problem. After closing my MBP to put it into sleep mode, I opened it a few hours later to resume work and the machine was locked up. I shut the machine down by holding the power key for 5 seconds. Now, every time I try to restart, the login screen appears (after a very long boot time) but the trackpad and keyboard do not respond.
