Keyboard problems out of the box with iPhone 3g

My iPhone 3g is showing strange keyboard behavior, typically starts when launching the SMS app.
The "P" and Backspace keys, the keys on the rightmost part of the touch area, are non-responsive. The issue will correct itself after 15 mins or so, but it's become very annoying.
I've made sure I'm not touching any other part of the screen as a possible cause. Showed it to and had three other iPhone users see what I see and they all agree it seems like a bug, just to confirm it's not me.
Took it to the Apple Store and of course the iPhone behaves when showing it to the Genius.
Anyone else experienced keyboard problems with 2.0 firmware?

Well, I took my 16GB iPhone 3g (white) back to the Apple Store today and the Genius looked it over -- said that's the first keyboard problem he's seen come in and mentioned that it was strange the "dead zone" on the touch screen was vertical since, according to him, most "dead zones" tend to be horizontal areas. He said the touch screen matrix is laid out in three horizontal bands on the screens.
Bottom line: he gave me a new working iPhone 3g.
He did mention that all returned iPhone 3g's are being sent directly back to the iPhone 3g engineering team for full "autopsies", not just sent back to factory for refurb. He said they want to fully diagnose and understand what defects are out there so as to solve the root cause moving forward.

  • Help Please - on a VC that works out of the box with MAC before I sellup

I have to declare that I’m somewhat frustrated at the moment and I could do with some good advise please bare with me while I explain.
I have recently converted from all types of PC systems and MS OS to Apple. The conversion was based on a few drivers.
1, My wife finally has decided to “learn” how to do her own web work instead of asking me to look up this or that for her. So as she was starting from scratch I thought MAC.
2, At the same time I had a play with Vista at work and disliked it. I was using XP & W2K at the time.
3, I wanted to update my home hardware, which was 3 years old.
4, The accountant said I hadn’t spent enough on IT last year.
5, New project work in the planning that required video/audio work to upload onto the web and everyone said MAC was the best.
So having looked around and done what I thought was enough research I started investing. To date I’ve invested £4500 plus.
    Started by buying
iMAC 24” 2.8 Gz Intel with 4GB ram (for the home office)
MacBook Pro 2.4 with 4GB ram (for out and about working)
    iPHONE 16GB (which is great)
VMware Fusion was installed for those things that I couldn’t live without until I found a suitable replacement like MS Money, Paint Shop Pro, MS Office etc. Installed XP.
Tried Open Office found it to clunky and hard work working off files for MS Office that others sent/required. Ended up buying Office 2008 only to find VB macros don’t work in Excel and all my company spreadsheets still need PC MS Excel to run so back into XP via Fusion.
Then to MAIL which is great on the iPHONE as I can easily monitor my 5 email accounts, what a result. But now I come to attach JPG files as I would in outlook and they open into the content of text in the mail and will not stay closed but disrupt the message. Wholly unacceptable to my way of working with no cure.
Scanning next, so I down loaded GIMP to replace PSP which I find useless so back to PSP I go again via XP & Fusion.
Next and finally the VC project, Now please bare in mind that all I want to do is shoot film, upload it to edit it and then mount it on the web page. I have no desire to become any form of expert in the field just get the job done.
So reviewed iMovie to understand the spec. Realise it has limitation and reviewed FCE which seems to plug the gaps and boarders on being more professional.
At this point I must say I’m not totally new to this subject as I have used Studio8 and a JVC GR-DVL166EK video cam a couple of years ago and got on ok without any issues simple plug and play with great results.
Having reviewed the standards that the software is reported to work too without any publicly declared exclusions or exceptions by Apple I went shopping for the VC. (I didn’t know of the forum at the time and to the best of my knowledge Apple don’t advise of its existence in any product information on anything I have bought.)
I buy a Panasonic HDC-HS9 for £700 which doesn’t flaming work despite the fact that it should based on all the standards quoted by both manufactures and there are no disclaimers from either party that it won’t work.
I have reviewed the compatibility list on the support page (now I know its there) and find that the Panasonic HDC-SD5 does work. I reviewed the comprehensive detailed model spec on the Panasonic web site and there is no differences between the to models at all accept the HDD.
    So why don’t it work?
*At the end of the day can anyone please recommend a VC that will produce high quality results without the need of a 3rd party software to connect and upload files convert and muck about instead of getting on with the job.*
And if all the publicised specs don’t allow you to conclude compatibility how can you protect your investment? Where do we legally stand and where is the accountability to the consumer.

I am that fed up with the last 3 months of mucking about Bill Gat*es may just get me back.
Thanking anyone in anticipation for some meaning advise and help.
    Regards
    Alan

Hi, and thanks for you interest. The problems is that whether I'm using iMovie or FCE I get to a stage where the thumbnail image is present but if you try to play, import or any other action in either app it closes down and a message comes up " The Application Final Cut Express/iMovie quit unexpectedly - Mac OS X and other application are not affected" then asks if I wish to relaunch. I then hit the report to Apple button and afterwards relaunch. I was recommended to use Voltaic which I have tried, it worked but is to much mucking about for something that should work out of the box.
This problem happens on both the iMAC and the MacBook so quite sure it's not a OS software issue. All software update are up to date also.
    Any ideas?

  • X4100 LOM problems out of the box

Straight out of the box I am having trouble connecting to lom. Using a serial cable I can connect and see the lom service start after power is connected, when the login line appears i loose control of the session. Any ideas? I don't know what the IP address is set to so I can't setup via browser.

  • Which Linux Distro Works Out of the Box With the iMac late 2009 (11,1)?

Hi. I use all 3 OSes because the other two OSes have tool and games that are not yet in OS X; best of both worlds. Win 8 on Bootcamp is nice for games and utilities but I'm installing Linux too on a separate external drive. I've tried a lot of Linux distros but they all have the bug that prevents ths iMac 4850 mobility GPU to work (you need a second monitor to solve it which I don't have the space for and I only use Linux every so often) but have you tried a Linux distro Live CD/DVD that works flawless on this Mac without editing commands in Linux's GRUB console on Linux bootup?
If there's no distro that works out of the box, what's the closest distro that may only need a few adjustments on its boot menu (GUI preferably not console commands).
But if there's a distro, what's the distro name and exact version (link to download it too if it's alright with you)?
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

  • MSI Media Live problems out of the box! :(

    Hi everybody!
I have recently bought an MSI Media Live from ebuyer with the hope if replacing and improving on my old MegaPC.
Out of the box all looked well and started to fill the barebones box with all my bits and pieces. Bought an AMD AM2 chip for it and put in some memory from another PC DDR2.
The machine on switch on started the obligatory BIOS checks and off we went. Or so I thought.
First of all I placed my Media Centre 2005 cd in the drive and the machine point blank refused to boot from the CD drive. After a while I thought I would stick XP Home in and do an upgrade from within. The XP Home disk came up with the line about checking system configuration and then hung. This happened repeatedly.
Next plan was install Media Centre on the HDD using another PC. So swapped the RAM back out and the HDD and went for the install. This went without a hitch on the other PC so after the install swapped the RAM and HDD back into the media live.
The Windows startup screen then came up but would get stuck in a reboot loop before windows started. If I asked to boot into safe mode the machine would start. This leads me to believe it is a software issue. While in safe mode with networking, managed to get all the updates I could find for both windows and MSI. However still can't get the machine to start in anything but safe mode which is driving me nuts because I can see what the machine is capable of but just can't get into it!
If anyone has any ideas they will be much appreciated. Have run RAM checks and swapped all parts out to make sure they work in other machines which they do and obviously there is nothing wrong with the install CD.
Just seemed to have reached a dead end!#
    Thanks in advance.

You can't install Windows on one PC and then transfer the drive into another PC, it won't work unless the other PC is identical, due to differences in hardware abstraction layer and core system drivers.
Have you anyway of trying another optical drive? If you can't, you may want to return the unit to Ebuyer for replacement

  • HT201232 different iPhone come out from the box with a different serial number

i am from Turkey. on 8th january 2015 i have ordered 2 iPhone 6 from the apple store online. and make shipped them to my friend who was living in US. few days ago she returned to Turkey and give me the phones. but in one of the boxes the iPhone 6 was different than the one i ordered. both iPhones that i ordered were 64 GB. but i have received one 64 GB space gray and one 16 GB gold iPhone 6. now i don't understand how such a thing happens with a worldwide company like Apple. before i go and open a case in the court i want Apple to solve my problem as soon as possible and change my iPhone 6 with the one i have purchased throughout the Apple store in Turkey İstanbul. or if you would say that i have to ship it to the US than Apple must pay the shipping bill. or apple pay me back the difference between 64 gb and 16 gb which is 100 dollars. so i am waiting you to contact me as soon as possible about the solution of this stupid mistake. Aplle USA says talk to the Apple store in Turkey. Aplle store in Turkey says we cannot do anything since iphones bought from US. vb

Sorry, but you are not addressing Apple here, we are all users in these forums, just like you.
If you buy an iPhone from another country, the warranty and service can only be handled in the country where it has been bought. Since Apple does not sip internationally, you'll have to bring the iPhone back in person or send it to someone who can do that for you in the USA.
The warranty regulations are clear about that: Read Apple’s One Year Limited Warranty for iPhone

  • 3 problems out of the box!

    1) accelerometer: in the iPod, I have to turn it 360 degrees in every direction before it recognizes the true orientation and flips to it.
    2) freezing: I thought Macs werent supposed to freeze. I go to Phone, and it freezes on my contact list - cant scroll, cant even tap a contact thats showing and call. Cant switch to other Phone functions such as Favorites, Visual Voicemail. I had to reset to get it to work.
    3) Battery - after full discharge, full charge, lasts 40 mins
What crap! Over the phone they said the best they could do was send me a loaner. No, I want a new one now! Im going to the Apple Store today to, hopefully, get a replacement. Will post on update.

You have `14 days to return it..I have several problems with mine out of the boxx and 5 days old..I'll be returning it for a credit, than purchase a new one right there to make sure that phone gets the 14 day return policy. I was told the 14 days starts on day of purchase so if they exchange one for you that phone will techinically only have a few days left on it for the return..it's a gotcha..I've had 2 bad phones out of 3..but beat the dead line on the 14 day return..so tomorrow?..another phone goes back for a full refund and I'll purchase another one..I'll be thier little pain in this that's for sure..they put a product out there before it was ready in my opinion

  • Why did my ipod touch 5G come out of the box with scratches?

When I bought my new iPod touch 5G at the store the plastic box had lots of scratches on it. I just thought that was from shipping and stuff. I took the ipod out and started to play around with it. 4hours later I noticed that there are little nics/indetnts that are around the top of the slanted area of the metal shell that is right next to the glass. Does anyone else have this happen to them? Will thyis get worse over the time that I own the ipod touch? My last one 4G lasted me 3 years.

make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store.

  • Display problems out of the box

I just bought a 24" imac with 2 gigs ram and the 7600 gt card. After finally getting the computer delivered to me, I plug it in and turn it on only to experience a completely black screen. The computer is getting power just fine as I can here the setup assistant doing its thing and the kyboard lets me control the sound, but I can see none of it. Ive reset the ram , even though that shouldn't be necessary. I've also followed all steps listed under the apple support page. Does anyone know what the problem could be, and is their any way of fixing it short of taking it in to the local apple store or sending it in for repairs.

    Welcome to Discussions, nixon737!
Did you try a PRAM reset?
    To reset the PRAM:
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Locate the following four keys on the keyboard: Command (Apple logo), option, P, and R. You will need to hold these four keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    3. Start up the computer.
    4. Press and hold the Command-option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination after the startup chord sounds, but before the gray screen appears.
    5. Hold all four keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup chord for the second time.
    6. Release the keys.
This might reset a couple of preferences which will then need to be reset - Startup Disc, Sound, possibly Energy Saver.
    [edit-
Do you hear the startup chord after you power on? If not, return the unit to Apple, as the lack of it is a "big trouble" diagnostic. Between the PRAM reset, the SMC reset, and the Support items you mentioned having already done, there are only 2 other things that should work - and they are able to work due to the ability of the install disc to supplant OS X and control the operation of the computer:
    1. running the Apple Hardware Test, which is done by inserting the grey-labeled Install Disc 1 into the optical drive, shut down, power on and holding down the "d" key from after the startup chord until the spinning progress indicator appears beneath the Apple logo; and also
    2. booting from the Install Disc 1 by repeating but holding down the "c" key instead of "d" key so that you can access Disk Utility from the "Utilities" pull-down at the top of the second sceen of the OS X Install Process (which can then be quit after using Disk Utility). After accessing Disk Utility, open the "Help" menu for Disk Utility Help.]

  • How Can This Computer Be Used Right Out Of The Box With NO WORD PROCESSING!

I just want to know why I can't do homework on a $1099 laptop!

    Welcome to the discussions!
As mentioned, virtually no PC comes with MS Office on it - and that's a good thing. Most people do not need all the features of Office in a standard home setting and including it would just increase their price needlessly. Students who turn in homework through email will usually need it since teachers really don't want to be bothered with multiple file formats. I can't blame them.
Check out your school's bookstore. It is likely that they have Office for Mac at a great price. If not - or if you want a different program - use OpenOffice or Apple's own iWork.

  • Is the latest update to the 6th gen nano a software download or does it come with the new watch faces and larger icons out of the box

Apple shows the new 6th gen nano with the new selection of watch faces and lager icons etc as per new update, but stores still have the 6th gen nano with just 3 watch faces and smaller icons etc. Is the newer spec just a software update that i do after purchase or does it come updated out of the box?
    Thx

It should come out of the box with the new 1.2 update, but if it doesn't you can simply connect it to iTunes, download, and install the update from there.

  • UserName/Password to enter CSF GUI out of the box

I am trying to login to the CSF GUI provided out of the box with CSF framework.
    http://localhost:18001/CSFAleConfig/SFE?
    http://localhost:18001/wlm
But I dont know the username/pwd to get in there. I have tried everything Administrator/STC, any user/pwd combination inside edesigner User Management module. But none of the user/pwd working. Does anyone know how to get in these admin modules for CSF?
PS: I dont want to use Oracle directly to change the values of these config.

The replacement arrived on the 22nd which perfectly acceptable since they had to rebuild it all the way back in China.
So far so good I guess since most of the key features work. I did run into some problems before and after update the drivers using the pre-installed Lenovo software; I can't remember the name right now.
Firstly I noticed that my x230 was overheating a bit when I first ran it. The fan wasn't loud, but the air being pumped out was pretty hot, was causing discomfort whenever I had my left hand on the side or when touching the bottom. The good thing was it was not noticeable while the keyboard.
After letting the software do its thing, the excessive heat that was coming from the machine was gone, but new problems came up. Something must have gone wrong during the installation, because the ultranav stopped working. I had to roll back the drivers to get it working again. I also noticed that the webcam doesn't work; all I get is a black screen when run the web cam app in Metro. Since I didn't try running it before updating the drivers, I am not sure if it even works to begin with. The yellow USB 2.0 port also doesn't seem to work at all. I remember disabling it in the Lenovo Settings app in metro to save power, but I think that only disables the always on feature. The USB 3.0 ports seem to work after I plugged in a thumb drive. It is weird that it installed something first after plugging it in.
I have not fully played around with my x230 yet, so there might be other things that I may need to trouble shoot. I plan to do a clean install and install the drivers one by one was needed, so hopefully that will solve my problems. Overall my experience with the x230 has had a rocky start. I really want to like my x230 and I am hopeful that I will eventually resolve all my issues with.

  • In mail the box with arrow pointing down?

I am trying to figure out what the box with a arrow over it does in mail on the new iPad. I know the folder with the arrow on it lets you select which folder to put the email into. But what does this other one do? I have no clue where it goes right now and I'm confused from the other discussions I have read.  Also are you able to customize those icons in the top right corner because I wish one of the icons was a delete icon would be much easier to delete things. Thanks for any advice.

  • Late 2013 13" Macbook Pro Retina Out of the Box Condition

I have just purchased my LAte 2013 Macbook Pro Retina 13" 2.6Ghz i5 512 Gb. Out of the box, it won't boot because there is no charge in it, and the keys feel a little less tactile, a littile stiff than the one on my Late 2012 Macbook Pro Retina. Also when the Macbook Pro finally booted up(after i plugged in the mag safe adaptor) I checked the battery status and there is already 3 charge cycles on it. Are these normal for an expensive Macbook Pro out of the box?
    Thanks!

Whether any previously built Mac notebook of any model came out of the box with a charge in the battery doesn't mean currently manufactured unit will or does. There have been several posts on these forum about the newest units not having a battery charge. I suspect there are many more units then are represented on these forum simply because most people would actually connect the AC charger as the first step in setting up a new computer and then you have others that don't think anything about it.
Who said the battery was Discharged Deeply. Just being at 0% of a charge doesn't mean it ws Deeply Discharged. Sure it isn't the best thing to do once the battery has been charged fully to constantly discharge it to 0%.
The battery has built in circuitry
Since this is the second brand new system you have had that has come like this, and many other it seems, I would say it is normal for the newly built systems.

  • Can I use my iPhone 6 out of the box to take photos, before syncing it with my computer?

I will be receiving a new iPhone 6 at the beginning an upcoming trip and would like to use the great camera on it to take photos. The problem is I won't have my computer with me during this trip.
