Keyboard Question- Delete/DEL keys

I'm a brand new Mac owner (PFFT! to PC!), and for the most part, I am loving my new little MacBook, but there are 2 things that are driving me CRAZY!
The Delete key deletes to the left, instead of to the right, and there's no backspace key. I looked on the help menu, and it says that either the DEL or Clear key will delete to the right, but my keyboard doesn't have either of those keys. How do you delete to the right?
Also, is anyone else having issues with the front edge of the case scratching their wrists as they type? If so, what solutions have people found? Is there some sort of wrist rest or pad that's the right height?
Thanks so much for whatever help you can offer!
Laura

To delete to the right use the keys fn and delete. Some of the keys mentioned are on full size keyboards not the abbreviated keyboard on the MacBook. Here are some help guides.

    wireless keyboard spacebar & delete key are locked/do not work. Any suggestions?

    Hello "BDAqua".
    .. I'm experiencing the same problem.
    ... and, where checking, with clicking on both my spacebar and delete function keys, along with in my own case, additionally, my ["/'] key, ... in a Text Edit document, .. each, does in fact work.
    What does this tell me in fact. ?
    — Typing this, part and part, on both my main keyboard, together along with a "USB" plug-in.
    — This on a 2009 "iMac", running Mac OS X v.10.6.8.
    Appreciate your time.

  • How to stop Firefox deleting active downloads when the 'del' key is pressed?

    I tend to remove old downloads from the download manager by pressing the 'del' key. Before the update to the new download manager, Firefox would not delete downloads when the 'del' key was pressed, *if* it was still downloading. This is no longer the case, and you can now accidentally remove downloads that are still downloading if the 'del' key is pressed.
    Is there a way to prevent Firefox from removing active downloads when the 'del' key is pressed?

    '''<Control> J''' to open the download manager. At the upper right is a button;
    '''Clear Downloads.''' This will remove completed downloads only.

  • My Keyboard and the Delete/Backspace Key

    So last night I was looking through my system settings and making small tweaks here and there where I wanted them. It was a nice little experience. However, I somehow disabled my delete(backspace) key completely. Also other keys like my shift key are suddenly sticking. I have gone back in and tried to restore everything back to factory settings on my keyboard and still nothing. Am I missing something or is there somewhere else I should be looking to fix this besides going into System Preferences>Keyboard and Mouse>???? I am so confused I do not know what I did.

    Yes. "Shift key sticking" sounds like 'Sticky Keys' - check in System Preferences > Universal Access > Keyboard.

  • Del key?

    Random question - is there any way to access a del key function on the MBP keyboard? Obviously the delete key works the same as a backspace key (place the curser at the end of the text you want to delete and it deletes backwards) but what about the good old del key that deletes the text following the curser?
    Hmm... I'd like one! Does it just not exist, or is there some shortcut that I don't know about?
    Cheers all
    Jared

    Hi Jared Haschek: It is a very simple little keystroke actually. Simply hold down the "fn" key while pressing delete. Works like a charm.

  • Wired keyboard question

    I feel really stupid asking this, but I'm really new to MAC and I'm obviously missing something. I have an apple keyboard that came with my imac but I cannot for the life of me find the DELETE key.I have no button on the keyboard that says 'DELETE' or 'DEL' This is causing me no end of grief, please can someone enlighten me?

    Hi,
    There should two delete keys in the wired keyboard, one by the '+' key and one by the 'end' key (in the middle section). The first 'delete' key is the backward delete and the second delete key is the forward delete. You can also use the combination 'fn' and the first 'delete' key for forward delete. I hope by the time you are reading this post you have found the keys already.

  • Remap Key for Del Key

    I have had the "nice GUI" (as other posts mention) opened. I wanted to get a Del key. I'm using MacBook Pro. How exactly I will do that? The keyboard layout on the GUI (Remap Key) is different from MacBook Pro keypads.
    Can someone please outlay step by step instruction? It'd be great if I can remap the lower Enter key (next to right-hand Apple key) into real Del key (in Windows sense)
    Thanks!

    does anyone know how to do this? i would like to get my right apple key to become a windows delete key, but the enter one would work too... i would really appreciate anyones help!
    thanks,

  • Bootcamp perfect - now need ctrl-alt-del key map

    Hi Guys,
    Installed bootcamp, XP SP2 on MBP works perfectly, joined local Windows domain - no worries - now on boot of course it wants the infamous cntl-alt-del key combo - I've tried just about everything but no luck.
    In the end plugged in external PC usb keyboard, got in and turned off the requirement to enter ctrl-alt-del in windows as a work around.
    Any ideas on how to map the MBP keyboard to work? Thanks all.

    Ctrl Alt Del on Windows XP:
    After installing,
    1) go to Start>Run
    2) Enter "remapkey" (witout quotes)
    A nice GUI utility pops up to let you remap keys on your keyboard. You can use it to remap the delete key. I suggest using the Right Command key.
    After saving, reboot and you'll be able to use Ctrl-Alt-(Right Command) to do a Ctrl-Alt-Delete and logon to Windows domains and other useful things.

  • Windows 8.1 update error 8007002 related to HP Keyboard Standard 101/102 key

    Hi!  While performing windows updates on my HP split x2 laptop machine with Windows 8.1 64 bits, i encountered the error 80070002. This error is relatd to windows update on HP Dev Company Keyboard Standard 101/102 key   I have google any tried all the methods that i have found a) use windows update troubleshot -> it claimed fixed the problem. But when rerun the windows update, it encountered same failure.b) delete the contents in the Windows\SoftwareDistribution folders, reboot, and rerun windows update. Still facing same error.  Pls kindly advice me how to fix this error? I would say most of the tricks that i have learnt from the Google is not helpful.Otherwise, i won't spend my time post in this forum. Kindly pls refer to atach screen shots.   Thank you very much!

    Nkboy, I received the same update today marked as Optional (HP Pavilion 17 Notebook).  I have not been able to find any info on this update.  Clicked on the "more information" on my HP Support Assistant and got nothing.  I need someone to inform me exactly what this update does and if i really need it since it says "optional".  It also stated that this was Released in July 2013 and published today 7/6/15 --- confusing re the date released and published. Also, received another "optional" update  from HP Inc. - Other Hardware - HP Wireless Button Driver..... no additional info on this update either.

  • Feature Suggestion for Keyboard System Preferences - Modifier Keys

    I recently picked up an iMac and it came with the new low-profile aluminum small keyboard -- without the keypad.
    I really like the small keyboard except for one thing -- the placement of the fn and control keys. The larger keyboard has three modifier keys on the left side: Control, Option, Command. The small keyboard has four: fn, Control, Option, Command.
    It is annoying to switch between keyboards where the control key is in a different spot on each one. Retraining my finger on a per-keyboard basis is hard.
    Apple thoughtfully provided in System Preferences a Keyboard control panel and it thoughtfully provided a "Modifier Keys..." popup to allow you to reassign the modifer keys. A great feature.
    The problem is: you can't use this to modify the behavior of the 'fn' key. It is apparently hardcoded.
    If I could use the modifier keys dialog to change the 'fn' into a 'Control', then I could use this keyboard without swearing everytime I miss the control key.
    Another feature that would be great would be if I could also have different bindings for the modifers on the left side versus the modifiers on the right. That would allow me to reassign one of the right side modifier keys (that I never use) to be an 'fn' key.

    I'm in the exact same boat as you...that Fn key is driving me nuts. I tried DoubleCommand and some other things as well, but the only thing that's coming close to what I want is a free download called "KeyRemap4MacBook."
    Just go under the "Remap Fn Key" section and you can basically have it act as the Command key. (I actually always had my Command and Control keys swapped, so now both the Fn and Control keys now essentially act as the Command key.)
    There are a few quirks I haven't figured out -- I can't seem to do Forward Delete -- but again, it's the only thing I've found so far that works.

  • Updating textfield with DEL key not taking into account

    I have a decimal field which accepts only numerals...
    after modifying the value in the field and pressing an OK button...the new value is reflected in a table...
    but if i modify the same field value using the "delete" key and press OK...the new value is not taken into account....
    but the same works with "backspace" key...
    So do i need to set anything to respond to del key...
    Thanks

    Also i am not able to put the code here as it is a huge applicationI did not ask for your entire application. I asked for
    demo code means code that we can compile and execute, but it only contains the code relevant to your problem
    Here is an example:
    import java.awt.*;
    import java.awt.event.*;
    import javax.swing.*;
    public class DemoCode extends JFrame
         JTextField textField;
         public DemoCode()
              textField = new JTextField();
              getContentPane().add(textField, BorderLayout.NORTH);
              JButton button = new JButton("Update Database");
              button.addActionListener( new ActionListener()
                   public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e)
                        System.out.println(textField.getText());
                        textField.setText("");
                        textField.requestFocusInWindow();
              getContentPane().add(button, BorderLayout.SOUTH);
         public static void main(String[] args)
              JFrame frame = new DemoCode();
              frame.setDefaultCloseOperation(JFrame.EXIT_ON_CLOSE);
              frame.pack();
              frame.setLocationRelativeTo( null );
              frame.setVisible(true);
    }If you can't create a simple demo then you don't understand your problem and if you don't understand your problem then how are we supposed to?
    custom field So you probably have a coding problem and we have no idea what your code looks like
    that accepts only decimal values and why are you not using JFormattedTextField?
    And this problem is not seen if i modify the custom field using any other key say like "Backspace".Again this problem doesn't make sense since the character should be removed from the text field before the OK button is pressed.

  • HT1941 Bluetooth keyboard setup has locked up keyboard, it's looking for a wireless keyboard, none of the keys on the keyboard are functioning, I can get out of the screen, or shut down my Mac, ... anyone??

    The bluetooth keyboard setup has locked my keyboard, none of the keys are functioning, holding down the power button does nothing, I don't know how I got into wireless keyboard setup, and I don't know how to get out. Anyone?

    Hi:
    I wish my suggestion had gotten you further.
    I do suggest you try to connect the keyboard again.  The request for a number is a step in it trying to pair.  If it gets by the number, it sometimes takes a little while to get connected.  If you are unable to get it connected and want a new one, I have been using Apple Bluetooth keyboards for years - and I like them. The one I have (the newest model) only uses two batteries and is very thin.
    Speaking of batteries, if you are not already doing so, you might consider rechargeables.  I have a drawer full of them and use a 15 minute charger.  I go tired of buying batteries and rechargeables are environmentally friendly to boot. At the moment, I use 2450 mAh Energizers and a 15 minute Energizer charger (all purchased new on eBay at a very reasonable price).
    I am far from an iPad "expert," although I have one.  If my suggestion below does not help, post your question in a separate thread in the iPad forum.
    I had a terrible time syncing my iCal on my Mac with my iPad iCal (confusing - hopefully it makes sense).  I quit using iCloud as that added to the confusion. There is a facility to one-time sync items.  When you connect your computer to your iPad, iTunes opens.  The system begins a process (automatic backup and so on). After it finishes, you can click on "info."  At the bottom of the screen, there is an advanced section.  You can select any of the items and then force it to sync. The iCal information from your computer would be deposited on the iPad.
    After all that, I do not use a Google calendar so the information may be worthless to you.
    If you want to reset the iPad to factory settings, you can do that when it is connected to iTunes (one of the options).  Me being me, I try never to erase anything.

  • Music Creation - Keyboard Question.

    Alright, I've been wanting to buy one for a while to learn, espeically after I found out that GarageBand has lessons and allows you to see how you play as you learn. I've been torn between getting http://store.apple.com/us/product/H7188ZM/A/m-audio-keystation-mini-32?fnode=57# compatibility and http://store.apple.com/us/product/H9325LL/A/line-6-mobile-keys-25-controller?fno de=57 but I have a few questions:
    First, how are the lessons in GB for someone whose looking to learn?
    Second, I'm obviously leaning more towards the mini due to price - does this have the option of recording plays in lessons with GB?
    Also, I heard that the keyboard (referring to the one in question two, doesn't make a sound unless transmitted through the USB) is that true?
    I do have a regular keyboard, I'm just looking for somthing to h

    First off I'm a terrible keyboard player but that won't stop me for giving my opinion.
    If you are a beginner I think you should have a keyboard with standard size keys.
    Next there are Midi controller keyboards, these only output a Midi signal and need something to turn the signal into notes and voices (sound). There are keyboards that have their own voices (and usually have a speaker) to play sounds and Midi controller to control external Midi so they do both.
    Something you may also want to think about is usb and self power keyboards. If you want to ever use Midi keyboard with ios devices then a keyboard that can get power from something other then usb is a good idea and in some cases be needed.

    Thanks,
