Keyboard Question for Logic 8 Pro

I don't have an external keyboard(piano) yet, and I have Logic 8 Pro. I dont want to use the loops available, and want to make my own. Is there a way I can pull up a keyboard in logic and create my own beats similar to having one on your lap? also changing the sounds Via drumbs, synth? I love dubstep and want to try and make my own, if you have any tips for that aswell. Thanks for your time

  • Where can I find good organ and keyboard sounds for Logic Express?

Where can I find good organ and keyboard sounds for Logic Express? The included sounds seem to be lacking or hard to access.

Update: Not terribly impressed with the interface for NI's Vintage Organs from the demo download, although the sound demos sure sound good. The letters are tiny and hard to read and the whole thing feels very PC-centric. I guess a guy gets spoiled by the intuitive stuff. I think what I'll try for now is just hooking up my keyboard (Korg N1, circa 1998, about 1700 built in sounds) as a sound module and record the waveforms when I find a sound I like. I did find the EXS24 and several other software synths with some cool organ sounds after digging a little deeper. It would be good if Apple came out with another jam pack just for organs and keys, as the existing jam packs are so easy to use.

  • Final Cut Pro 7 keyboard shortcuts for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for Windows

Attached is the file that contains the Final Cut Pro 7 keyboard shortcut set for Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 for Windows.
This file was mistakenly left out of the Premiere Pro CS5 installer, so people who tried to switch to this keyboard shortcut set were unable to do so.
Unzip the file and then install the .kys file by copying it here:
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Premiere Pro CS5\Keyboard Shortcuts\en_US
(where C:\ may be replaced by the a different volume if you installed somewhere other than the C drive, and en_US may be replaced by another locale ID)
This file was included in the Premiere Pro CS5.5 installer, so manually installing this file is only necessary for Premiere Pro CS5.
For information about keyboard shortcuts, including how to customize them, see this page:

By the way, Mac users don't need to update this file, it's for Windows users only.

  • Pro Tools convert to Logic Newbie some simple question for logic users

Hey guys, I am a recent convert from Pro Tools! and There were just some simple questions I thought some of you may be able to help me out with. I am using Logic 9.1.1
    1) After I set up a multi timbral software instrument (in this case MOTU Symphonic Library) how do I set up midi channels to trigger the individual sounds in the instrument. (in pro tools I used to create a midi track then send an output of that track to that particular soft synth)
    2) How do I set up a and forgive my Pro Tools vocab but basically I want to set up a reverb channel on an aux track have it receive on a bus so I can send other tracks to that particular bus.
Thanks for the insight and really looking forward to finally make use of all this ram! lol

    1) I have a nord stage and would like record via midi. In pro tools i would usually need to create a midi track with the output set the the nord and an audo aux track to hear it What would I do in order to record midi from my nord stage?
To record, just select a non-audio track, hit record and play the keyboard. The notes will get recorded into a region.
If you want to play it back to the Nord Stage as well, then it makes sense to set the Nord up as a MIDI device in your templates, so you can just add the Nord to a track and not worry about what MIDI ports it's on etc. Open the environment, create a New -> Instrument, called it "Nord Stage", set the MIDI port and MIDI channels it's on, and sav your template.
Now, when you start a song, to sequence the Nord, you just assign the Nord instrument to a track (by for instance, right clicking on a track and choosing your Nord instrument from the list of environment obects that appears).
    2) The multi instrument trick is quick and easy its great but How would I do that manually?
Lots of ways, look into your key commands, ther are all kinds of "Create track with same instrument", "Create track with next MIDI channel" and so on. There are too many ways to do this to quickly talk about here. In short, all tracks have an environment object assigned to them, whether it's an audio object, or a MIDI instrument object, and this determines where the data on the track goes.
    3) How do you set up midi so that it doen'ts overwrite notes when recording over them?
Not sure I understand you here...

  • Re-install questions for Logic Pro 8

I have recently switched from a G5 to the new Mac Pro. I installed the two hard drives from my G5 into slots 2 and 3 on my Mac Pro. Each is 300GB. Slot 1 is the 320GB hard drive that came with the Mac Pro. My plan is to use the main drive (slot 1) for all other applications, do a clean install on my second 300GB drive (slot 2) and update to Mac OS 10.5, then re-install only Logic Studio on this drive. I use my third hard drive (slot 3) to record audio to. I will probably add another hard drive to slot 4 to use either for virtual instruments (Vienna Strings, Wallander), or use it as backup for my system.
I am a long time Logic user (since 1995) and have been continually updating, my last update being to Logic Studio from Logic Pro 7. I want to avoid any unforeseen issues with re-installing from an update, so I would really appreciate any advice on the best procedure to accomplish this re-install. I also am intending on keeping an alias of Logic Pro 8 on the dock of my main drive to open and use Logic from my second drive, and will store all logic song files on the second drive with the application, and continue to record audio to the third drive, as mentioned above. Any helpful wisdom or suggestions for improvement on this configuration would be great too, but I'm mainly asking for help on Logic Studio re-install.

    Happy New Mac
My plan is to use the main drive (slot 1) for all other applications, do a clean install on my second 300GB drive (slot 2) and update to Mac OS 10.5, then re-install only Logic Studio on this drive.
That's fine except that most applications (and certainly Logic) have to be installed on the boot drive, and the library or user library +on that drive+ will contain all library files such as application support, preferences etc.
I use my third hard drive (slot 3) to record audio to
That's where old and new Logic projects should live.
I will probably add another hard drive to slot 4 to use either for virtual instruments
    Good idea.
or use it as backup for my system.
I'd suggest an external drive for backups, with a basic system on it in a separate partition, solely used for emergencies. Most of the time it should be 'off' except when actually backing up.
and will store all logic song files on the second drive with the application
Shouldn't they be on your 3rd. drive? All projects, old and new, should live on that, I think.
Also, be aware that if you plan to install Logic 7 (for old projects) re-install this first, before you install Logic 8. You can't do this in the wrong order. This will be on the same boot drive and Logic 8 (and your system).

  • Question for ALL Bootcamp Pros....

Ok so i am currently on a PC (and have officially decided that I hate PCs) and I want to switch over to the New Macbook Pro-15". See I have a rather advanced question about the Bootcamp program (cause i understand it's basic premiss). I was wondering, is it possible to use a Thumb Drive (like a 60GB USB Drive... and yes I do have one) as my hard drive partition instead of actually partitioning my hard drive on my new Mac. The reason why I am asking this is because I use up a lot of hard drive space (quickly) and I don't want to have to worry about using up my New Mac's hard drive.
So yes, my question is: Can I set up Bootcamp to use a 60GB USB Drive as my hard drive partition for Windows XP on my Mac? In addition, if I were to do this would anyone know how I would go about doing it?
    Thanks for the help!

Why do you need Bootcamp at all. I'm not a gamer, and if I were, I'd find Mac versions, or a new game
Parallels 4 will let you boot XP from any drive you choose to move the Virtual Drive folder to. You can even store multiple copies of XP or run XP and Vista at the same time, with MacOS. Get plenty of ram for this...
Backing up Windows becomes so simple. Zip the folder and copy the file to a backup drive. Hose up your XP? Just delete the folder and move an uncompressed copy back to the right location. XP just runs again. No mixed partition drive, and the problems people have when they screw up removing the Windows partition.
Exclude the XP folder from Time Machine, and when working with XP save documents to the 'Shared' folder that Parallels creates (that isn't excluded from Time Machine) for hourly backups of your files.
If you trash XP on a Bootcamp partition, you are stuck with the same format and reinstallation of everything that you are trying to leave.

  • Question for Logic porfessional

Can someone out there actually explain the relationship that automation data has to the global cut/ insert time features?when or how Is it effected?
why can't I insert globally snipped song sections WITH the automation?
How is automation data affected when global cut/snip commands a=re entered?
There is nothing "global" about this behavior...

I dont use Logic 8 (still on 7) but since no one has come to your rescue yet, I'll give it a shot.
In L7, if you want to make sure your automation moves and adjusts with your global edits, its best to change it from "track based" automation to "region based" automation. To do this in L7, select the region where the automation is located (if there is no region; e.g. automation on an aux, create a region using the pencil tool and expand it to cover all automation) and go OPTIONS menu -> TRACK AUTOMATION -> "Move current track data to region data." Now when you make global changes, the automation should adjust as well. If you want to return the data back to track data (for easier editing, etc) simply select "move current region data to track data" and edit away.
I know for a fact this method works, as this is how I move my automation data into folders, which I can then place wherever I want in a song, or even move to a different song. If you haven't explore folders yet, I HIGHLY recommend you do, as judging from your question would would benefit from this feature.
I dont have Logic 8, so I don't know if these functions are located in the same menus or even named the same, but they should be in there somewhere. BTW, Logic is a region based program, and so it sometimes has trouble with track based information. Not that I'm making excuses for the program, it should just WORK, but when it doesn't, it helps to "think like the program" when trouble shooting.
    All the best!

  • Training for Logic + other pro apps

Has anyone been to one of the apple store traning in London or anything, the lectures are only an hour so i guess they can't be that detailed?, are they free? And if they only cover the basics has anyone been to a more proffesional training centre for pro apps like Logic (like the ones they advertize on the apple site) How expensive are they and are they any good?
    Thanks

The presentations at the store are definitely very basic...
Since I live near the Apple SoHo store, one day recently
I went to the Logic Pro workshop, just hoping I would
pick up one or two new tips, but got none...
It was just a good introduction to what Logic does, best
for someone who hasn't had a chance to see it running
    in person...

  • Audio question for you Premiere Pro vets...

    Hi there -
FCP editor here who is loving the new PPro CS5 and is trying to convince my studio to do our next show on it.
I'm having trouble with one particular audio situation and so far all the help documents I've read aren't giving me an answer:
I'm trying to export a quicktime file with multiple audio tracks. For example: track 1 is a stereo track with all the camera audio, while track 2 is a stereo track with Music & effects. This would create a similar situation of a TV show dumped to tape with channels 1&2 program audio, and channel 3&4 Music and Effects.
My assumed path would be to create 2 submixes: 1 "camera" and 2 "music & Effects." I was then hoping to export a quicktime with each sub mix as a separate audio track inside the exported quicktime. Is this correct?
Can anyone help an old man out?

Thanks so much for helping with this.  I can only hope that Todd sees it also.
I have submitted a feature request.  Regardless, the ability to map tracks to channels, and the ability to create quicktime files with multiple audio tracks is definitely something that should be possible.
If you're wondering more about the applied use:  Besides being able to map tracks to an audio channel for tape, the most important time when this is used is this: At the end of a TV show it's customary for us to export a final quicktime with program audio and music separated:  2 audio tracks in one quicktime.  If we want director commentary, that also becomes another audio track inside the quicktime.  A "track" can be stereo or mono.
It creates a single quicktime file where all audio elements are separated, allowing us to distribute a single file to multiple departments who may have unique editing/sound requirements.  Simplifies things a lot.
As it stands now, we would have to take the quicktime/audio elements back into Final Cut Pro or AVID to achieve this.  (Unless someone else knows a way to do in Premiere - I'm all ears).

  • More add memory questions for a MacBook Pro 1.1 (late 2007)

I've read some of the previous threads and looked at the info that "the Hatter" has provided. In my case (actually my wife's case) she has 4 GB of ram with 1GB in each of the risers A/DIMM 1&2 AND B/DIMM 1&2. She wants to add memory and my question is can I just add 2GBs to each of the empty slots (Riser A/ 3&4 and Riser B/ 3&4). The previous examples showed only one slot in each riser with stock RAM , so i'm not sure if I should move the existing RAM in riser B to slots 3&4 in Riser A or not. By the way, it's a dual core, 2.66 GHZ.
I'm assuming, also, from earlier threads that adding different sized memory, as long as it's in pairs is okay.

You confuse me, because it sounds like your title is MacBook.
So what is it you don't understand?
Sounds like the Mac Pro was ordered or already upgraded once to 4GB. They came stock with 2 x 512MB.
And yes, you can add 4 x 2GB.
And yes, I'd move them to slots 1&2.

Reboot and see if this helps. If this persists, you should bring the machine to an Apple store, or an AASP (Apple Authorized Service Provider)  Hope this helps:)
