Keyboard quirk

Question

The end / home, Ctrl+end / Cntrl+home keys don't work when editing text. In fact they don't do anything as far as I can tell. Did I miss a setting?

I had to enable the show keyboard viewer by going
into Prefs -> International etc. Once I did that I
was able to see the keyboard. It responded to every
keystroke.
It also worked in Safari.
In TextEdit and FireFox, it doesn't work.
The Control Home and End does not work in Text Edit or FireFox on my system either.
But, home and end by themselves do work in those programs.
So, that's probably just the way they work in those programs.
It's up to each programmer to decide how their program handles these kind of keys.
In addition, since trying all of this, other
navigation keys have stopped responding. Control +
F2, Control + F4 have stopped.
I don't know why those wouldn't work. Perhaps try them in other programs.
For Control + F4, try using:
 F
as a substitute.
I'm not sure what I did to cause that.
If they work in the keyboard viewer, then they are probably just disabled in certain programs.
You can also go into the Preference panel, and choose the "Keyboard & Mouse" preferences, then the Keyboard Shortcut Tab, and then click the restore defaults to restore your keyboard shortcuts if they have been changed.
