Keyboard repeats after 10.5.7 update

I have a white 2.16 Intel Core 2 Duo. I bought an aluminum keyboard for it. After installing 10.5.7 my keyboard repeats keys, delays responses, etc. I thought the keyboard might be bad so I replaced it under warranty. The new keyboard does the exact same thing. The KB is plugged directly into the USB port on back of the imac. Anyone have any thoughts? For now I am using the old white keyboard that came with the imac and it works perfectly---even though it doesn't feel as good as the aluminum keyboard.

Hi Jacob,
Did you make any progress solving this? I have got a MacBook Pro and got the same problem since the 10.5.7 update. Keys start repeating at random. I don't use an external keyboard ever so I suppose that is not related, I first thought that I touched the trackpad or anything but after some time got convinced that was not the problem. Regards.

  • Keyboard repeating not working with latest update for mac?

I just updated my Macbook Pro with a new version of Yosemite and i have come to find that the keyboard repeating function is not working anymore, even with the command: defaults write -g ApplePressAndHoldEnabled -bool false
    in terminal.
Is there anyway to resolve this? I find the other character extremely annoying that they always pop up
    thank you!

The repeating function you want has been off by default since 10.7 was released 3 years ago.  That terminal command should normally do the trick.  Did you logout and login again?

  • Wired Keyboard failure after 10.5.3 update

Wired Moshi celesta keyboard ceased working after recent OS 10.5.3 update (not 100% certain failure is due to OS though). The Imac sees the device as a USB2 hub, not USB keyboard hub as with wired Mac keyboard - that works thankfully. Has anyone experienced non-mac keyboard issues problems following the OS update?

Yes, You should have a previous system folder after an archive and install.
Can you backup everything to a second HD? Or, were you running Time Machine (a good idea). If you can, then you can safely delete many things from the previous system folder. Or, at least enough to begin testing to see if your apps work.
I routinely do and A&I when I upgrade. Then I test all my apps (or at least the important ones and a sample of the lesser ones). I move the previous system folder to a spare disk and keep it around for a few weeks incase I need to copy something over (like fonts).
BTW, I suspect your start up disk is out of space, not memory. Again backing stuff up, particularly on a laptop is a very sound idea and also allows you to manage your stuff better -- older stuff goes on the backup. Despite some problems, Time Machine works well for this as do a number of commercial products.

  • Wired keyboard issue after 10.9.4 update

    Hello all,
I disconnected the Apple USB keyboard (A1243) from my MacBook Pro last night, and I started seeing an issue where my Mac would no longer power/recognize my keyboard once I reconnected it. I tried doing the steps to reset both SMC and PRAM, but still my keyboard would not work when connected. I decided to test the USB port so I connected my iPhone to it, and it connected and synched just fine. I also tested a USB drive on it and was able to copy files off it. I also took my Mac keyboard and connected it to a Windows 7 laptop, and it worked just fine. After looking at the console logs, I noticed this error showing up:
    7/4/14 8:24:40.000 PM kernel[0]: USBF:    18393.519    AppleUSBHubPort::FatalError - Port 2 of Hub at 0x14200000 reported error 0xe00002c0 while doing setting port power
This shows each time I connect my Apple keyboard into the USB ports on my machine. I decided to try to connect the keyboard one last time just now and it finally worked. I was accidentally pressing the keys down as I connected it, and I started hearing beeping sounds from my speakers. A few seconds after that, the keyboard started typing and working correctly. I tried the same steps on the original USB port I had it on before (left side), but it's still not working at all. I suspect that this has to do with the new update I just installed as I did not have any issues before.
    Many thanks,
    Adrian C.

To confirm what John Galt is reporting, I just tested printing this web page from OS X 10.9.4 to an old HP LaserJet here.  Worked correctly.
In addition to what John Galt is asking, which model(s) of HP printers are involved here?
If you're getting error dialogs or messages in the console log (available via Console.app), please post those.
If you're working with an IT organization and particularly with managed network switches, have you checked with IT about issues there?
If there are any antivirus or antimalware tools in use here, remove that miasma from at least one test system, and test printing again.

  • Keyboard freeze after 10.5.6 update

I have a macbook pro thats 20 days old. I have noticed that after the 10.5.6 update 2 days ago my keyboard freezes completely. Though i lose control over the keyboard and trackpad the applications are still running (i can see the clock tick away). The only key that response is the power button but all that i get is the 4 shutdown options. I have to reset my macbook everytime this happens.
    Can someone help me ?
    thanks

I am not exactly sure of the time it froze but am taking the best guess.. i see a few messages
USBF: 6857.344 [0x6f93e00] The IOUSBFamily is having trouble enumerating a USB device that has been plugged in. It will keep trying.
    it then says

  • Apple Bluetooth Keyboard Fails After 10.7.3 Update

I updated to 10.7.3 48 hours ago and my Apple bluetooth keybaord does not work.  My Mac Pro system is several years old and does not have an internal bluetooth.  I have been using a bluetooth dongle successfully.  The keyboard goes through the pairing process normally and appears connected in the System Preferences (Bluetooth) application but no characters appear when typing on the keyboard in any application.  How should I start to fix this problem?

I had this problem yesterday. Today, I decided to just turn BT off and back on again, and the keyboard paired successfully. So far, so good.

  • Wireless keyboard problem after installation of security update

I have an Apple wireless keyboard and wireless mouse that have been working fine up until installation of the latest security update. The mouse still works, but the keyboard doesn't. I'm getting a dialog box that tells me the computer found the keyboard and to enter a "passkey" which is something I've never seen before with the keyboard. It provides me with a numerical passkey. I enter the passkey, but it says there is an error, to make sure my keyboard is discoverable, and to try again. Every time I try, I get the same results. I've repaired permissions and changed the batteries in the keyboard.
I'm looking for some help as to what else I can do. Thanks in advance.

Changed the firewall setting for Thunderbird in Norton's Internet Security from "Auto" to Allow" and this fixed the problem.
I had updated to a new version of Norton's on 3/11/14. Don't know why the problem did not manifest itself until the Thunderbird security update installed on 3/18/14..
Very happy it is now fixed!!! Thanks!!!

  • Keyboard issue after 6.1.2 update

Ever since the update the keyboard is having issues with everything, popping up in the middle of the screen and covering the the field or what is being type.  There is no work around other then split keyboard which is unacceptable.  You can't even scroll asnpagesonly bounces, this is also an issue for other applications.  I'll assume it has something to do with the new little quick navigation they put at the bottom, which isn't even necessary.

  • IPhone 4s Keyboard problems after 7.0.3 update

    Dear all,
need help, keyborad letters "T" and numbers "5 and 7" are not responding or lagging sometimes in landscape mode english language. in Italian for example working fine.
Portrait mode working fine, tried resetting settings, restart but still not working. Screen touch working fine and responsive in the areas of the keys.
please help i cant restore for now...

    --uninstalled and reinstalled camera "button"
Huh?  What "button"?  There is no such procedure.  Was this phone jailbroken?
--reset to original settings  and reinstalled via itunes.
Unclear terminology.  Read the "Restoring iOS software" support article I linked for you and follow that procedure for restoring as a new phone.
How can you say that this is not a software problem, but a hardware problem if reinstalling as new does not work?
In fact, that defines it as hardware since >100 million have updated without any camera problem.  If it were the iOS software, which is the same for everyone, EVERYONE would have this problem.
Why have so many had similar problems with this update?
Define "so many", particularly in the context of >100 million updates. Most had the problem fixed with the usual troubleshooting steps described above.  If you had followed this forum for the last 7 years, the same camera issues have occurred just as frequently with every iOS update since 1.0.1/

Same as mate. Not as bad but the keyboard can't keep up with me.

  • [SOLVED] Keyboard repeat messed up after update to Xorg 1.6

Did anyone else notice the keyboard repeat rate and delay changed after the update to Xorg 1.6? It takes longer to start repeating and the rate is lower (at least in a terminal). This happens both in xmonad (started through xinit) and KDE (started through gdm).
xset q has the same output in both xorg 1.5.3 and 1.6:
auto repeat delay: 660 repeat rate: 25
The weird thing is, I don't think this is the true delay and repeat rate in effect when using xorg 1.5.3 -- it reacts much faster than that.
After the update to xorg 1.6, I started KDE (though I seldom use it) and played around with the keyboard settings in the 'SystemSettings' control panel. I guess the delay closest to the old one is about 300.
Does anyone know how to get the old settings back? I had to downgrade to 1.5.3, since this drives me nuts.
EDIT: Doing xset 250 25 helps a bit, but doesn't feel quite right.
EDIT2: Might be related to this http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=67759

Explicitly define your keyboard in xorg.conf and don't use evdev but kbd.
You just need to add to Section "ServerLayout"
    InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard"
    And add the section
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Keyboard0"
    Driver "kbd"
    Option "CoreKeyboard"
    EndSection
Maybe one of those CoreKeyboard definitions is redundant.
For that I'd have to also add Option "AutoAddDevices" "off" to ServerLayout.
That's not really the problem, I was using evdev with xorg 1.5.3 and everything was fine. What I'd like to know is, what was the default delay and repeat rate in xorg 1.5.3, so I can set it in xorg 1.6.0 (with xset or something).
    Thanks for your suggestion, though.

    Hi Jacob,
First, try resetting the SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
If that doesn't help, download and install the 10.5.7 combo update available here.

Run Disk Utility and repair permissions when it's finished.

  • Mouse and keyboard problem after updating to Mountain Lion

    Hi!
This is the strangest problem I got on a Mac for 20 years...
I work on a Macpro 3,1. I upgraded my 10.7.5 os to 10.8.5 (needed it to use GTX 680 card).
The upgrade went fine and then... The mouse and the keyboard don't react.
After resetting the SMC they began to react but the mouse is deadly erratic and the keyboard repeats few time each key (impossible to write), for instance I hit n and got nnnnnn.
Resetting PRam does not help. Redoing the os update did not help.
This is really bad cause I can't use my Mac at all right now. I think I'll do a Fresh lion install and move my data back to it before I find something for that Mountain.
Its a real pain, does someone have an idea?
    Thank you,
    Milosz

    Hi!
For those interested, I found the solution reading others forums.
    Here it is:
I had to remove my optional old apple airport card (atheros a/b/g) and everything works fine now.
Hopefully I don't wifi on that Mac, otherwise I would need to buy another one. Which one? I don't know.
Too bad Mountain Lion isn't supporting anymore that apple card…
    Have a nice day

  • Dead Keys on Lenovo W520 built-in keyboard after Windows 7 (64bit) Update

After my Windows 7 update, I have several dead keys.  Left Alt, Up Arrow, Print Screen, F5, F6, and the ThinkVantage Keys are all dead.  Orginally I thought it was just Windows, but after booting into my Linux OS, I run into the same issues.  I have tried reflashing my bios, but that did not fix the problem.  Can anyone help?
    Hardware: Lenovo W520 (Referbished)
    OS: Windows 7 (64bit), Debian Linux (64bit)
    Age: 2 months after refurbished
Update 1: Chrome and Firefox would crash if I tried to download something.  Did a system restore which fixed the problems with that, but there are still dead keys.  I am now downloading a bootable cd from Lenovo.  If that fails, I will attempt to reflash one last time before I send this thing to get fixed by the pros.
Update 2: Just remember, why would the lights in the keyboard stop working?  They keys still work, but the mike key and the caps key are not lighting up their LEDs when I'm using them.
