Keyboard Settings Switching

This is just a rant - the keyboard settings keep switching from UK back to US - don't know if it when switching from Finder into mail, or is a integral Mail problem but it is really annoying - typing away and yes, once again, the wrong characters come up. Minor I know, but surprising how irritating it can be.
I guess if the switch worked the other way around it would have been fixed by now.

Alan,
Is there any chance that, in the International system preferences pane, you've got a keystroke configured to switch inputs and you're inadvertently triggering it?
Also, if you only use UK and never need US, what are your input source options in that pane (under input menu)? You can also remove the check mark from US in the list if you don't need it.

  • Keyboard layout switching not working

    i use xfce4 and i created /etc/X11/xorg.conf
    Section "InputClass"
        Identifier             "Keyboard Defaults"
        MatchIsKeyboard        "yes"
        Option                 "XkbLayout" "us, ar"
        Option                 "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle"
    EndSection
    but it's not working.
xfce4 has a program called Keyboard in settings menu, i used it it gives the ability to add another language but it doesnt has a switching capability.

I don't use keyboard layout switch through xorg.conf because it stops to work sometimes(if i use setxkbmap for example).
So i am using setxkbmap in .xinitrc.
    setxkbmap -model pc105 \
    -layout "de,ru" \
    -variant "basic,phonetic" \
    -option -option "grp:sclk_toggle, grp_led:scroll, terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp, caps:none"
and "kbdd" for remembering layout for each window.
Change it to your needs or check the arch wiki about xorg.conf.d .

  • Can a French keyboard be switched to English

Can a MacBook Air with a French keyboard be switched to an English keyboard?

Unfortunately, switching either the keyboard or the language (Settings>General>International>Language) to French has no effect on the content of the generic dictionary that you reach by double-tapping a word in, for example, iBooks, Safari or the email.  Oddly, though, if you change the language to French and the dictionary does not find a definition of a word you tap, the panel that offers you Wikipedia or Google is in French.  Is it possible that people in France are stuck with an English-language dictionary, even as the iPad2 itself is using French?

  • Personal Keyboard settings

Hey got a problem got a mac with a u.s. keyboard but i also need some special letter on it like ä,ö,ü would like to keep using the u.s settings, and integrate those special characters, e.g control + a = ä ; is it possible to customize it in some way couldnt find anything. Thx

Go to "International" in the System Preferences to Input Menu and check US and check German (Deutsch) and at the bottom of the pane: Check the Show Input Menu in Menu Bar.
You may then change the input source between keyboard settings right from the menu bar according to which you want at the moment.

  • Keyboard settings in Java Studio Creator

I am using Solaris 10, Swedish installation. All programs exept Java Studio Creator 2 Update 1 is Swedish. The Creator is in English. Every program so far, exept Java Studio Creator, uses the Swedish keyboard settings.
When using Java Studio Creator, I am missing brackets "[" and "]" which turns into "8" and "9",
How do I configure Java Studio Creator to use my Swedish keyboard settings?
    Thanks in advance!

I have not tried it, but perhaps this article might help.

  • Keyboard Settings button disabled

On opening Region and Language > Input Sources, the wrench button is disabled. I can't figure out which package is needed to select that option despite searching around.

Anyone else ran into this on a fresh arch install with the gnome 3.6.2 package?

Yup! Have that installed..(thanks for the reply though!)
If I remember correctly, in Ubuntu, this brought up a screen to change the caps-lock key behaviour to esc, etc...I already used dconf to map it, I am sure that there is something wrong with my keyboard settings.
(Possibly) related problem using  "Custom Shortcuts" to map "gnome-terminal" to "Ctrl+Alt+T", stops working on reboots until I redefine the key.

  • My keyboard settings got messed up. I hit something, then heard a loud ding.

My keyboard settings got messed up. I hit something, heard a loud ding; after restarting I can't log in because the enter key appears to add a character instead of a Return. How can I fix the keyboard if I can't log in to get to my settings??

Is there a way I can enter system preferences from the start up screen or in safe mode?

  • Wrong keyboard settings at login prompt

So I have a German (qwertz) keyboard and both the tty and KDE know that. Only the graphical login prompt thinks I have a US (qwerty) keyboard: To log in, I have to enter my username and password the way I would enter it into a US keyboard.
The wiki tells me KDM is responsible for the login prompt and the X server is responsible for KDM's keyboard settings. This would explain why it works in the terminal (which is independent of X) and in KDE (which presumably overrides X settings), right? But how do I change the keyboard layout that X thinks I have without changing xorg.conf, which is auto-generated by Catalyst? Or do I need to change something else for the login prompt to get the correct keymap?

    https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Xo … t-Plugging
Instead of changing the xorg.conf file, you can create a /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/30-keyboard.conf to change the keyboard layout.
Mine for the french azerty layout is like that:
    Section "InputClass"
    Identifier "Keyboard Defaults"
    MatchIsKeyboard "yes"
    Option "XkbLayout" "fr"
    EndSection

  • Is it possible to pre-configure the iPad keyboard settings using Apple Configurator or iPhone Configuration Utilitity?

I have to configure 20+ iPads for events that are sometimes in French, sometimes in English, sometimes both. It is important that I can preset the keyboard settings to allow multiple languages (for example). I've been looking in Apple Configurator and iPhone Configuration Utility, and I can't find where I can set that kind of settings during deployment.
Is there a way I can manage all the settings of the iPads without having to go through each iPad to make sure the settings are ok for my event?

Order Management provides you with the ability to import ATO and PTO configurations from legacy systems or EDI. In your case, you should define the ATO/PTO model first and then import the order and configuration selections from the EDI.
The order import will let you create an Order even if the selections are invalid.
You should then programmatic book and progress the order (using Order actions api).
If the configuration is valid, then the API will generate a * number (ATO item), create bom/routing as appropriate and place that item on the sales order.
If the configuration is invalid, it won't let you book the order. Once you have fixed the invalid selections/configurations, you will be able to book and progress the order.
    See http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/A89549_01/acrobat/115omapi.pdf for details.
Also refer to the "Importing Configurations" section in Oracle Order Management Suite White Papers [ID 113492.1]

  • Wrong keyboard settings at start up

    Hello,
A while ago I did a Migration from a TM back-up to a new computer.
The source had AZERTY keyboard settings, the destination QWERTY, because I went from azerty to qwerty, obviously.
Now, the problem is that when I do a cold boot or reboot, the log in screen is standard set to AZERTY instead of QWERTY (that's how the system is set)
When I put my MBP in Sleep Mode and try to log in afterwards, everything's fine. I'm able to type in QWERTY.
So how do I change these settings to ALL qwerty, for simplicity?
    Thanks!

    Hi 1tio1,
Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!
I understand that your preferred keyboard layout is not what is expected on start-up. In this situation, I would recommend reading over and working through the steps in the following attached article. Please let me know if the issue continues.
OS X: How to change the keyboard layout at the login window - Apple Support
From the Apple menu, choose System Preferences.
Click Users & Groups to display the pane (or choose User & Groups from the View menu).
If the lock icon in the lower-left corner of the window is closed, click it, then enter the name and password of an administrator to unlock it.
    Click Login Options.
Select the "Show Input menu in login window" checkbox.
From the Apple menu, choose Log Out.
At the login window, click the Input menu (shows the name of the currently selected input source next to a keyboard icon) in the upper-right corner of the screen, then select the desired input source or keyboard layout. If you don't see the input source you are looking for, move the pointer over Other Input Sources, then select the input source from the complete list that appears.
    Best regards,
    Joe

  • Path to Custom Keyboard settings

Could someone point me in the direction of the Custom Keyboard settings  path (in Explorer) please.
I can find the path to the Installed options for these but not  the path to my custom ones in CS5.5
I actually have them on a usb stick but I need to know where to put them in CS6.
    Darn...I used to know this!

    Thank  you  Ninja.
Actually I was trolling around and lucked up on it a few minutes ago.
I was so delighted that I did not take any notice of where I actually was and after copying my Custom Keyboard file across to CS6..I realised I had not taken note of where I was!
I have written it down from your post.
Will ask you again when CS7 comes around.

  • Avid keyboard settings in Premiere 6

I am trying to use the Avid keyboard settings in Premiere 6.   I have gotten a few to work, but some, particularly CUT, command X, is not working.  I have tried this on a two machines on different sequences.
Has anyone had any success using the Avid keyboard settings?

I have been struggling with this for a few days now, working around the fact that I could not get a keystroke to "cut".
With some help from fellow editors, I think I have figured this out.
My mistake was thinking that "cut" (command X) under the file menu should actually do something on the timeline.  It does not.  What you really want is to program "extract" as a keyboard stroke.  On Avid, it is "x".  On Premiere, it is the apostrophe.  I am guessing that "cut" applies to text on clips or bins, not editing on the timeline.  What is even more confusing is that the other commands under the "edit" menu (copy, paste, paste insert) work on the timeline.  Not very logical in my opinion.
Hope this helps someone else struggling with this problem.

  • Yosemite 10.10.1: Missing Chinese and Japanese Keyboard settings

After updating my new Mac Mini with the latest Yosemite update 10.10.1, suddenly the Japanese and Chinese keyboard settings have disappeared and I can't find them in settings anymore. I'm using the Apple bluetooth keyboard and the whole system is only 3 months old. Anyone else having the same problem? Any suggestions on how to get the back? Thanks!

Sorry, I don't understand what you are referring to by "browsing to find a given character."  Could  you explain  what you are wanting to do in more detail?  Character Viewer displays all scripts for me.
Have you clicked on the gear wheel and selected Customize to add the categories you want to the column on the left?

  • Wrong keyboard settings

    Hello,
I'm useing ARD 3.1 on a german operating system 10.4.8. On 2 keys on my keyboard, I have a wrong allocation. With "Shift-8" I get an asterisk "*" but I should get a parenthesis "(". The other one is "`", there I get a "+". All other keys comes the right way.
Is everyone in this forum that can confirm this fault or has a solution for this?
    Thanks
    MacPro, G5, G4   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi yamahito,
all settings are exactely the same. And there are only these two keys they don't work correctly. I find out that on these two keys ARD use the keyboardlayout from "US", not that from swiss-german.
I try the follow. Change the keyboard settings on the remote mac to "US". All keys are at the right place. Go back to swiss german. Same as bevore.
For me it looks like a bug in ARD with other keyboard settings than "US".
    Any idees?
