Keyboard Shortcut Access Text Invitation Window??

Howdy,
Nothing major but curious if there is a way to access the window via a keyboard shortcut that appears when another buddy starts a text conversation with you? I'm talking about the window you normally have to click which then shows the block, decline, accept buttons.
I'm used to being able to access any part of the GUI via the keyboard and would have thought I could access this window. However I've tried control-F4, control-F6, and command-` without any success.
Ideally I should be able to switch to this window with command-` and then hit enter to accept, command-period to decline and something else to block.
I can't find anything about this window that's different to other windows. So why can't we use the keyboard to access it. What if i had no hands (and no I dont want to have to use mouse keys).
So anybody know of a solution.
Thanks in advance.

Same for when you activate the menu-- type the name of the items and it will start to match immediately.

  • Transferring keyboard shortcuts between Mac and Windows

I need to migrate users from Mac (CS 5.5) to Windows 7 (CS 6). I have tried to transfer a user's custom keyboard shortcut set by copying the .indk file to the appropriate folder on the PC, and although it shows up in the list, when I try to select the set I get an error saying it is in the wrong format or the file could be damaged. Is there a way of transferring keyboard shortcuts between Mac and Windows?

Shortcut sets seem to be human-readable text files, so you could try making a copy and doing some editing, changing cmd to ctrl and opt to alt, and change the platform value in the first line to "win" though I can't make any promise it will work.
There are also some known problems trying to migrate legacy sets into newer versions of ID since CS5, I think.

I am trying to close floating windows (effects and instruments) using ALT-W not CMD-W.
Ah, okay, never used that one. Have you checked your *Key Commands* that this shortcut actually still is assigned? Even if it is, it might just help to reassign it (to the same keycombo).
    (much later:)
Mm, I did a search of Logic key commands, but I cannot find any command that closes floating windows, alt-W is not a default shortcut for anything... to what command exactly did you assign alt-W?

  • Global Keyboard Shortcut for Text-Entry

I have found what seem to be extremely simple instructions for creating a Keyborad Shortcut which, when pressed in any app, will cause a string of text to be "typed." I need this because I have a problem typing numbers without messing them up. Let's say I want to have a command key (e.g. Shift-Control-Command-c) which would cause "+1-323-555-1221" to be entered wherever I am (TextEdit, a box in a web browser, whatever). Here are the instructions I've followed:
    1. Go into "Automator" and create a "Service."
    2. Set the service to "recive no inpout" in "any application"
    3. Drag "Run AppleScript" from the left column and then set the text exactly as follows:
           tell application "System Events"
             keystroke "+1-323-555-1212"
           end tell
    4. Save the script with a name (e.g. "MyAutoTextScript")
(note that at this point, if I press green "Run" button inside Automator,
"+1-323-555-1212" WILL be typed write into the script editor window,
           so that seems good, no?!
    5. Go into System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyborad Shortcuts -> Services, and find "MyAutoTextScript"
    6. For "MyAutoTextScript", set a shortcut using "Add Shortcut".
SO... I've done all of this and AAAAAARRRRGH, it doesn't work! When I go into any app at all and press this key combination - I tried a bunch of them - it just does nothing. Tried TextEdit, Terminal, etc., etc. No text is entered. Nothing happens.
At first I thought maybe the Keyborad Shortcut combo I chose was a conflict, but supposedly, it's supposed to tell me if there's a comflict (though I've tested that by trying a combo that I KNOW is taken and it does *not* tell me of a conflict (strange!), but anyway, no matter WHAT combination I try, NOTHING.
I really would appreciate help with this. I'd rather not use some crazy third-party app for something like this which seems like it should be so simple. And I need this because of the disorder I have to live with which causes me to muss up these numbers.
    Help is much appreciated!
    Thanks.

  • Keyboard shortcuts for text selection not working in Flash CC

In the new Code Editor in Flash CC running on Mac OS X, most standard Keyboard Shortcuts for traversing through the text work as expected (as the Operating System works globally) but there is one that doesn't and it's I think the most important one.
Hitting "OPTION + SHIFT + [right or left arrow keys]" to select words doesn't work. Hitting "OPTION + [right or left arrow keys]" works as expected, moving the cursor to the next word or break point, but adding shift doesn't do the selection.
I don't understand why this changed since it's a basic OS global shortcuts, and every other program behaves the way it should. Flash CS6 running on the same system behaves fine, but Flash CC doesn't. If you have ever written code, you know that any second that a programmers hand doesn't have to leave the keyboard to search for the mouse is invaluable, and this has forced me to stop using Flash CC and use Flash CS6 to edit my Action Script classes becuase it's unusable otherwise.
These shortcuts are also not listed in the keyboard shortcuts for the program, so I can't change the default behavior. Does anybody know if there's a way to set it back to the way it was before, or just disable special text shortcuts so that selecting text behaves like any other application in the operating system?

Amy~ Yep the lasso tool was what I verified with another user. 'L' seems to be bound indefinitely to loop through different types of lasso tools and it was annoying them because they just wanted L to be the regular freehand lasso. I removed 'L' from being an option on the polygon lasso and even set it explicitly to SHIFT+L as well as set the lasso tool to a completely different keyboard combo. 'L' still cycled through lassos haha. It needs some fixes.

  • What is the keyboard shortcut for the search window?

Is there a keyboard shortcut that takes me directly to the Google search window in the upper right hand corner of the Safari toolbar? I looking for the equivalent of Firefox's Cmd-K shortcut. I've looked at lists of Safari shortcuts online, but I can't find this one.
Note that this is different from Cmd-Shift-L, because I want to begin the search without having something already highlighted.

Yep, I overlooked that one on the shortcuts list. Thanks.

  • What is the keyboard shortcut to open Options window?

This shortcut used to be Alt+O (Windows), but this is not working anymore!
There is no listing of this shortcut even in the FF shortcut help page. Am not able to set it also. How to enable it back?

There has never been a shortcut in Firefox to open the Option windows.<br />
If you had such a keyboard shortcut in the past then is had been added by an extension that possibly added a toolbar button as well.
You can use Alt+T to open the Tools menu and then press O (you can keep Alt pressed) to open the Options window.

  • Keyboard shortcut for filling the window?

A couple years ago I was routinely using a certain key combo which would instantly expand a PDF's pages to fill the window (rather than having to click the button in the GUI).  But I've forgotten how to do it.  I've searched the "keyboard shortcuts" list - in the Adobe Reader Help - but no sign of any such shortcut.  I'm currently using Adobe Reader 9.4.7.
    Anyone know?  Thanks.
    - Bob K.

Yeah, that's a good one for maximizing the whole application window.  Problem is, it doesn't also stretch the document you're viewing - it leaves the document's zoom level unaffected (unless you've first used your mouse to click the "fill the window" button next to the zoom percentage field, which is what I'm trying to avoid having to do each time I call up a PDF).  What I remember was a keyboard shortcut to just make the document fill the app window - without also maximizing the app window to full screen.
The good news is, I just stumbled onto the answer a few minutes ago myself, by trying different key combinations.  Turns out, it's Ctrl-3.  If a PDF's zoom level is currently set at, say, 50%, you can hit Ctrl-3 and the document will stretch to whatever zoom percentage will fill the app window's current size.  If your Reader window is maximized and you hit Ctrl-3, your current 50% document might jump to something like 142%, whereas if the window is un-maximized, say, to about half your total screen area, the doc may only need to jump to 70.4% to fill that smaller window.
    Well well.  Happy joy!!
    Thanks for the reply.

  • In Safari is there a Keyboard shortcut for Merge All Windows?

Majority of sites sill open new pages in new windows, not new tabs. So, I keep using the Merge All Windows feature all the time. Please, provide a keyboard shortcut for this!

Although there is no default keyboard shortcut for the menu item in question, there is nothing preventing you from creating your own.
Under System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts, press the "+" sign. From the Application drop-down menu, choose Safari. In the Menu Title field enter "Merge All Windows" -- without the quotes. In the Keyboard Shortcut field, enter your desired key combo and then click the Add button.
You'll need to quit System Preferences and restart Safari for the change to take effect. Good luck.

  • I am no longer able to use a keyboard shortcut to close a window when there is only one window open.

I can use Command+W when there are multiple tabs open to close one window at a time, but not when there is only one window remaining. It's driving me crazy because I have to click on the red dot. It won't close with File > Close either. Nothing changed (that I know of) from last week to this that would cause this. It works fine in safe mode but I can't figure out what's conflicting. Also, I've tried reinstalling Firefox but that did nothing. Help?

  • Access Keys / Keyboard Shortcuts / Mnemonics

I am trying to use the SetAsFunctionKey method and FunctionKeyPress

    a Windows 95 client running Forte 3.0.E.
If I add the ampersand (&) to the caption of a button, the letter
following the ampersand is underlined. Normally, in other development
tools such as Visual Basic, if you do this for a button, then clicking
the ALT key along with that one letter automatically fires the Click
event for the button. There is no other coding necessary. I basically
    have two questions:
    1. Is there a better way of implementing this in Forte, other than using
    the SetAsFunctionKey method?
    2. If not, I have the following dilemma. My application consists of a
main window and several nested windows. The nested windows do not have
their own event loops, instead, they have Event Handlers that are
registered in the parent window. Both the parent window and its nested
windows need the keyboard shortcuts and would therefore need to register
for the FunctionKeyPress event. The problem is if I register for the
event in the nested window, the registration of that same event in the
parent window is overridden, effectively disabling my ability to process
the keyboard shortcut for the parent window. I am assuming that since

receives the FunctionKeyPress event. Is there any way to make this work
without making the parent window aware of all the keyboard shortcuts of
    its nested windows?

  • Converting Mac keyboard shortcuts to Windows/PC based shortcuts.

    Hello,
Let me say, I have been using Mac based platforms since close to 1991 on and off. I used System 7 (and OS 8/9, but close enough to System 7) for many years up until I started to use Windows starting on the later 9x and XP platforms. As I start to drift away from Windows to more likely use Macs, however I would like to have a consistent keyboard shortcut system similar to Windows or Linux/UNIX (for that matter).
I actually get confused very easily switching from Macs and Windows with keyboard commands often when I use Windows comp and when I am using the Mac. (Just switching from different kinds of keyboards confuse me from the razor thin keys to a regular keyboard, because going from another one confuses me because of different pressures to press the on.)
I also believe this may have to do with a "workflow" process/scripting, if I am not mistaken. Is there a script I can download, that has close to the standard Windows/PC commands that I can import into the Mac, and can these scripts be edited to adapt my own commands as well? Is there a way to use most of the function keys (F1-12) for the standard commands for the different purposes? I also would like the Option (alt)-Tab to cycle the different apps and Option-Esc to cycle all windows opened. I would like to try to reduce all Option/Command/Control/Shift commands to just a couple of keystrokes or an F key. These modifier keys I think are becoming old, especially since it doesn't meet Apple's simplicity, giving there is up to three keystrokes to press at a given time for some commands.
I had tried the way on the System Preferences, but it doesn't go globally through all applications - real problem lies on the Apple apps on some. I strongly believe this is possible to do, since it might be able to work via a scripting system. I hope this could work. Apple has come a long way to open up the system's architecture without really messing things up, or just opening up the OS without hex apps is great. I hope they can just keep this up so the users can decide how they want their mac to work, because they know what's right for their purposes.
    Thanks in advance,
    Steven

You may like youpi key. It is free. It works fairly well for me in MAC OS 10.4 although not officially supported. There is a commercial version you can buy, called iKey.

Here is my script for listing my application folder. I have it assigned to function-key 6.
    tell application "Finder"
    activate
    select window of desktop
make new Finder window to startup disk
    select Finder window 1
set target of Finder window 1 to folder "Applications" of startup disk
    select Finder window 1
    set position of Finder window 1 to {60, 45}
    end tell
This script was automatically generated in script editor record mode. After I recorded the script and did some minor editing, I copy the script to youpi key.
I have all of my frequently used applications set to function keys. I am thinking of changing the switching to Scripts because there seems to be a side effect to some of the switching like the speaking.
