Keyboard Shortcut for Create Archive?

Is there a way to create a keyboard shortcut to "create Archive" from the Finder file menu?
Dual 2 GHz G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   6.5 GB RAM

Hi Zina,
The quickest way I can think of, using the keyboard:
(firstly ⌃F1 keep Full Keyboard Access permanently On)
- highlight the item in Finder
- hit control+F2 then F then arrow down then C then return
Correction:
The quickest way is indeed to create a keyboard shortcut in
System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts
--> in Application, "Finder", name the keyboard shortcut "Create Archive" (case sensitive, no quotes), choose a key combination that is not yet in use (example control-command-A),
then relaunch the Finder (option+holdclick the Finder Dock icon).
Enjoy!

  • Keyboard shortcut for creating new Desktop

Switching from primarily using keyboard shortcut navigation on a PC, I've realized that the OS X is missing a keyboard shortcut for creating a new Desktop or Space. You need to use the mouse to do this, either by clicking the Add Desktop icon in the upper right corner of Mission Control, dragging and dropping an open window to the Add Desktop icon, or entering full screen mode. Though it is possible to toggle full screen mode using a keyboard shortcut under Systems Preferences, not all applications can enable full screen.
Does anyone have a possible solution to this problem?

Hi- There is no longer a dedicated key on your keyboard to do that. However, follow these steps to make one...
Click on System Preferences, Keyboard, and then choose Keyboard Shortcuts tab. In the lefthand column, select Expose & Spaces On the right, you will see that Expose has several shortcut key options. Make sure that the checkbox for Desktop is filled in, and double click it, and press the keyboard key you would like to activate it. If I may suggest, F5 or F6 are good choices.
That is it! You are good to go.

  • Creating a keyboard shortcut for Calendar's Export- doesn't work

I created a keyboard shortcut in Calendar to easily export calendars (let say option-ctrl-E).
When I launch Calendar the shortcut doesn't work. But after I opened the File Menu, then the Export sub-menu, the shortcut DO work as expected.
As I need this for an Applescript (there is still no Export… command in Calendar's dictionnary!), it's quite annoying.
Interestingly, I don't have the same problem when I create a shortcut for "Calendar Archive…".
I know I can of course use GUI scripting in AppleScript, but it's quite annoying.
    Any idea?

Does it continue to fail on a restart of the app?
    I can offer a workaround:
If you need to automate creating a Calendar Archive, just copy all the .caldav, .calendar, and .group folders, allong with Attachments from ~/Library/Calendars/ into a folder called Calendar. Package it up in a folder with a .icbu file extension and add an info.plist file to that folder with the following information:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <!DOCTYPE plist PUBLIC "-//Apple//DTD PLIST 1.0//EN" "http://www.apple.com/DTDs/PropertyList-1.0.dtd">
    <plist version="1.0">
    <dict>
              <key>date</key>
              <date>2013-03-07T01:08:00Z</date>
              <key>version</key>
              <string>2.0</string>
    </dict>
    </plist>
Right-click on a Calendar archive and choose "Show package contents" and you'll see what I am describing.

  • Apple Mail creating a new keyboard shortcut for delete

In Gmail I can hit the "D" key to delete saves much time.
In Apple Mail I have to hit the delete key which is on the right side of the keyboard and my right hand is busy with the track pad scrolling. I want to create a keyboard shortcut for delete something like option D any easy left handed shortcut will work.  Sys pref/keyboard shortcuts/mail doesn't work, Any suggestions?

    Hello!
I don't know about mouse shortcuts, but you can put a delete button in the top bar of Mail, like so:

  • Is it possible to create a keyboard shortcut for "Export book to PDF"? (Cannot find it in the Keyboard Shortcuts window.)

I'd like to create a keyboard shortcut for the "Export Book to PDF" command on the Books panel menu, but I simply can't find that command in Keyboard Shortcuts. After not finding it in what seemed the logical place (Keyboard Shortcuts > Product Area: Panel Menus > Book), I've looked through all the Product Areas listed on the dropdown menu -- but it seems I must be missing something.
What do I need to do / where do I need to look to assign a keyboard shortcut for this command?

Sorry, I agree that that is missing in action. I don't know of a workaround unless someone has written a script. Scripts can be called with keystrokes.

  • Any way to create a keyboard shortcut for keywords in Bridge CC?

Just curious if there's any way to create a keyboard shortcut for "new keyword" and "new sub keyword" in Bridge CC?
If not, that would be a welcome addition in any future Bridge update - being able to customize keyboard shortcuts or add your own the way you can in Premiere Pro CC.

    Steve,
Not, as far as I know, directly, but the problem is with Aperture, not Keyboard Maestro.  Aperture has no command (afaik) for selecting the caption field of the Info Inspector.  Without a command, you will have to find another way to access it, or another way to accomplish what you want.
You can specify the spot clicked by screen coordinates, so you cold use the Inspector HUD and the coordinates of the Caption field, as long as the Inspector HUD always pops up in the same location.
Many dialog boxes allow the user to advance through the fields with the Tab key.  Unfortunately, the number of times you have to type "{Tab}" in order to get to a particular field depends on other interface elements (if the Control Bar is showing, add 2).  I don't know of a way to determine if the Control Bar is showing.
You might find a work-around using a Metadata Preset and the Batch Change command.  Keyboard Maestro can easily pop up a dialog with a text field in which you can type what you want to go into Aperture's Caption field.
The best thing to do is download the trial version and see if it meets your needs.  Keyboard Maestro is adept at creating macros based on keyboard input.  If the program does not provide keyboard equivalents, writing an effective macro becomes difficult.

    The author provides exemplary documentation:
    http://wiki.keyboardmaestro.com/About_Keyboard_Maestro
Lastly, for the use you cite, I simply show the Inspector if it's not showing (by typing "i"), change to the Info tab if it is not currently activated (by clicking, but note that opening the Inspector with the Info tab selected can be done with one command "View➞Inspector➞Info"), and then clicking in the Caption field, which is part of all of the Metadata Views I regularly use.
HTH.  Perhaps one of our programming mavens will suggest something better.

  • In Yosemite version of Numbers, how keyboard shortcut for "Merge Cells" can be created?

In Yosemite version of Numbers, how keyboard shortcut for "Merge Cells" can be created?

OK, I've been doing this since CS2 with no need for a script. To hide guides and show preview...
    1) Go to 'Keyboard Shortcuts'
    2) Go to 'Product Area - Tools'. Yes, you'd think it would be in Views! But the buttons for this is at the bottom of the Tool Bar.
    3) Go to 'Commands: Toggle view setting between default and preview'
    4) Click your cursor inside 'New Shortcut' and hit the key you want or type it in. I choose the unused F2 key
    5) Click the 'Assign' button and you are set. Hit the key to switch back and forth.
As for your mouse Zoom, use Power Zoom as described above or just hold down the Alt/Option button in 'Hand' mode and use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out. Not one step but it works!
Now you won't miss Quark at all!

  • Is there (or can I create) a keyboard shortcut for the command "export"?

is there (or can I create) a keyboard shortcut for the command "export"?

Keyboard Shortcuts are created in the System Preferences app, Hardware section, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts tab.
Select Application Shortcuts on the left.
Click the "+" sign on the right and in the dialog box that pops up, enter: "Export..." and your preferred key combination. Here's an example:
Keep in mind that when you enter the name of the action in a layered menu, such as File > Export..., or Share > Export..., you are only going to enter the last menu choice, not the higher levels.

  • How do I create a keyboard shortcut for a nested finder menu item?

Specifically I'm trying to create a keyboard shortcut for Finder>Services>Mail>Send File.
    Any help would be appreciated.

    pmasitti,
Under System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts, click on the "+" sign. From the drop-down menu choose Application: Finder, Menu Title: "Send File" (without the quotes), Keyboard Shortcut: whatever.
Close system System Preferences and quit the Finder for the change to take effect. You can easily quit and relaunch the Finder from the Apple Menu > Force Quit. Select Finder and click on the Relaunch button.
For the action to complete, select the Finder item before pressing your keyboard short cut.
    Worked for me... good luck!

  • Use Shell Script to create a keyboard shortcut for a installed Service

I'm not even sure if this is possible, but I hope someone out there has an answer!
I have an automator Application that I'm using to install a service to my Mac(will be deploying this to hundreds more). Id like to have this Application contain a Shell script that sets up a keyboard shortcut for the service after it is installed.
Anyone know how to do that?

You need automator to create services, as detailed in http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=2241804 a four-parter by Sal Saghoian on *Automation in Snow Leopard*
This, describes old and new automator—services stuff:
    http://www.reynoldsftw.com/2009/08/automator-and-finder-interactions-in-os-x-10- 6/
    Alternatively, just save the script
    *+tell application "Firefox" to activate+*
as an app, put it on the Dock, and click it to activate it. However, seems simpler just to put the FF icon on the Dock and a single click launches it. Why would you want a service or AS to do the same thing?

  • Disabling Keyboard Shortcuts for LDAP Accounts -Workgroup Manager...

I work in a school and all our students are on LDAP accounts. Recently some of the kids realized that hitting Ctrl-Opt-CMD-8 inverts the screen display. You wouldn't believe the amount of havoc this has created at school, especially when they do it to a kid’s account that doesn't know how to fix it.
Keyboard and Mouse are NOT one of the items under preferences for either groups or accounts in Workgroup Manager. Does anyone know if there is a way around this, or an alternate way of getting rid of the keyboard shortcuts for Universal Access, for either groups or accounts?
    Thanks
      Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Within the Workgroup Manager pane for Preferences, there is an option to manage Universal access. Within that section, there is a tab for 'Options'. You will want to change that management to 'Always' and leave the box for 'Allow Universal Access Shortcuts' UNchecked. This will, in effect, disable the usage of the shortcuts for a User or a selected Group account.
    Hope this helps out!!

  • How do I setup a keyboard shortcut for an item in the Services menu?

In every Application, under the application menu is a "Services" folder. I would like to be able to setup a keyboard shortcut for one of these services (namely Skype).
I am a heavy user of the "Services > Skype > Call" command and I would love to have a keyboard shortcut for it.
I went to System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts, clicked on the plus sign to create a new shortcut (all applications) and entered "Services…Skype…Call" and assigned it to a keyboard command (shift-F1).
It doesn't work. Any clue as to what I am doing wrong?

    Hi
Also - have a look at the reply I gave at the link below (sorry - don't know how to insert proper links here).
May be of interest, maybe not.
    Best,

  • How do I generate a list of keyboard shortcuts for any given application

I want to generate a list of keyboard shortcuts for all of the applications I have on my Mac. I want the list to be a simple text (or rtf) file that I can edit and organize. (By edit, I don't mean change the shortcuts, only the report of them.)
I was using Key Cue, but it does not let me save the list to a text file.
I want this for several purposes. One is to have a easy to reference list of shortcuts to learn. Another is to find unused key combinations that I can use for my own keyboard shortcuts that I create with DefaultKeyBinding.dict.
Note: The program doesn't have to an OS X app. A program that runs from a shell without a GUI is plenty adequate.
If there is a way to read the keyboard commands from a plist list or other such file, and any of you know the format for these or where I can find them, I can write a Perl script myself to do it.

Well, the info is stored in...
    /Users/YourUserName/Library/Preferences/com.apple.universalaccess.plist
PlistPro has a way to convert it to ASCII, but you'll srtill have work to do, as...

  • What is the keyboard shortcut for extract page?

There used to be a series of keyboard shortcuts for page manipulation (and other) - using acrobat 9 till recently. Now new to Acrobat XI Pro (Windows 8.1). I can see the shortcuts for insert & delete page but not for extract page (and other). Am I missing something? The keyboard shortcuts are a must for speed and a healthy right wrist.
    Thank-you for your time.

There isn't a direct way of doing it, but you can "hack" it using a script. Create a folder-level script with this code:
app.addMenuItem({cName: "MyExtractPages", cUser: "E&xtract Pages", cParent: "Edit",
        cExec: "app.execMenuItem(\"ExtractPages\");", cEnable: "event.rc = (event.target!=null)"});
This will add a new menu item to the Edit menu which you could access using the following keyboard shortcut: Alt+E, X
