Keyboard shortcut to bring back minimized windows

This is probably a numskulled question, but my search terms haven't turned up the answer yet, so.... I'm a recent switcher, and in Windows if you have a minimized window and switch back to that app, the window reappears. In Leopard, as far as I can tell, I have to click the minimized window from the dock to get the window back (except for a few apps, notably iTunes and Safari, for which apple-L brings back the window). It's irritating. Is there a better way?

I see your point.. and it' not a "numskull" question.
Some apps respond to the Apple-L and some don't. From what I can tell, each app may have a different key combo that will do the same, but a system-wide solution is what your after.
Doubt this will help much, but Apple+Tab will cycle thru the open apps, you can select the one you want, and then if you know the key combination to bring the window up, your in good shape.
Not the solution your looking for, but perhaps a start.

    Is there a keyboard shortcut associated with moving through different windows open at the same time....?

  • Keyboard shortcuts failing to work on windows partition

    Hey all,
    I have been having this problem for a while and I couldn't find any information on the fix so I turned to these forums for a possible solution (Also hello all). My problem seems like it could be simply fixed by changing some system property but I could find no such info online, but enough with the idle chit chat, let's talk business. My problem is the keyboard shortcuts (such as control option delete and ctrl+click) are simply not working. The control option delete button gets registered as 3 different keys. One keyboard shortcut does work and that is shift f10, but I desire the more precise right clicking method of control click. I am currently using the Macbook version that was first introduced with the intel dual core 2 processor and NVIDIA graphics card (I don't know the actual name of it so maybe some one could tell me?). The windows operating system which I installed with bootcamp is Windows 7 64-bit Enterprise R2 and I don't know if this helps are all but my mac partition runs OS-X Leopard fully updated. If I am being dumb then a couple of buzz words is all I need to get me in the right direction. Thanks in advance!

    Also, the eject button doesn't work for the CD/DVD drive.

  • Hello . Mozilla keyboard shortcuts does not include any window key shortcuts. Please update this content . Thanks

    From Mozilla keyboard shortcuts webpage.

    In this article: [[Keyboard shortcuts - Perform common Firefox tasks quickly]]?
    If the problem is that you are not seeing shortcuts for Mac or Linux, and you are running Windows, then the site did not properly detect your OS. In the left part of the page, look for the EDITING TOOLS bar. If necessary, click it to expand the list of tools. Then you should see a section called CUSTOMIZE THIS ARTICLE where you can change from Mac or Linux to your version of Windows.
    If the problem is that there are specific shortcuts missing that you would like to see documented, could you mention which ones they are or which functions they perform?

  • Shortcut for opening a minimized window?

    Is there a short cut for opening a minimized window for an application? I know alt tab lets you rotate through open applications, but I haven't figured out how to open a minimized window with a shortcut. Thanks in advance!

    Personally I use the Hide command in a program to hide the window, not a minimize command to the Dock, but just literally hides the window. Then if you use the Alt + Tab command to select the program you want, the hidden window will return like you are looking for. Hope that helps.

  • Spotlight's keyboard shortcuts turn themselves back on! Annoying!

    Hello,
    Since the introduction of Apple's 'Spotlight', i have been annoyed with how it interferes with the shortcuts in Photoshop. On every machine i work on, i go to the system preferences and turn off the system shortcuts to 'Spotlight'. After a few days of working on that machine, somehow the Spotlight shortcuts are turned back on. I am the only one using the computer... so how are the Spotlight shortcuts being turned back on? And how can i keep them off permanently?
    Thanks,
    Josh Withers

    That is where i turn them off... under keyboard and mouse in the system preferences. I'd rather not have to change them to something different for fear of them interfereing with something else...
    Personally, i'd like the 'turning off' function to work as expected and not turn back on....

  • In Mac OS 10.6, why won't the command n keyboard shortcut open a new firefox window?

    Ever since Firefox 3, command n does not open up a new window. I'm on a Mac, OS 10.6

    Hello cor-el,
    Yes, I do use a 2 monitor set up. And Yes!!! moving the Firefox window to the main or 1st monitor allows use of command n shortcut to open a new window. You're a genius. Thank you soo much!
    Naturally, the reason I use a 2 monitor set up is to have Firefox open on the 2nd monitor for quick reference and easy access. Is there a workaround that will allow me to keep this configuration? (I know, I'm getting greedy now!)
    Many Thanks,

  • What is the Keyboard shortcut to go back to the previous tab (I mean most recent tab)?

    I normally work on Firefox with more tabs than one open. I want to switch between two open tabs frequently. Is there any shortcut to do so? eg. "Alt+Tab" to open most recent window on Windows OS.

    * '''CTRL + Tab key''' -> for Switching to Next tab
    * '''CTRL + SHIFT + Tab key''' -> for Switching Back to Previous Tab
    Check and tell if its working.

  • How to set mac KEYBOARD shortcuts (for mac OS and windows OS)

    i am having a bit of an issue.
    i run windows 7 and mac os on the same computer on different hard drives in this computer. i also have a "mac" keyboard. i am not sure how this may be different from a "windows keyboard" but the point is i need to use this keyboard because it matches the one on my laptop which is a mac.
    when i switch to windows on this machine i always end up deleting information because the CMD + X and CMD + V cut and paste shortcuts on Mac OS are not the same in windows. windows requires (currently) CTRL + X and CTRL + V. so when i got to cut and paste in windows CTRL + X (this is my habitual way of working) and then i run a CTRL + V i end up writing /over/ the text i selected with a "x" and i end up pasting /over/ the text i selected to paste over with a "v". this is because instead of running a cut and paste, this set of shortcuts in windows simply enters "x" and "y" respectively since the shortcut is not active.
    does anyone know where i set these in windows OS and in mac OS?
    also, does anyone know if it is possible to set how many UNDOS i can do in either of these OS's or to know how many i can in fact undo?
    THANKS
    long story background:
    1. while i may move to a windows keyboard on the computer i am using (because the mac keyboards these days end up losing keys and they end up very wobbly) i cannot do this for the laptop machine so this may not make a lot of sense if i end up also running windows on the laptop which is my intention at some point.
    2. CTRL + X is a very long stretch on the mac keyboard so rather than switching mac shortcuts to accommodate windows shortcuts i am thinking to switch windows shortcuts to mac ATM.
    3. this is no small issue! i just went to copy and paste this text so i could save it for myself in order to explain to someone else and i ended up overwriting with a "c". if i had not thought fast and remembered to UNDO by hitting CTRL - X and not CMD - X i might have lost all my work.

    You don't necessarily need netcfg to get networking. But I used it before for my wireless on my laptop, so I just used the same on my desktop too. Also if you want to do things like this its easier rather than have to go digging around with macspoof and what not. your netcfg eth0 file could be something like
    PRE_UP='ip link set eth0 address XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX'
    CONNECTION='ethernet'
    DESCRIPTION='A basic dhcp ethernet connection using iproute'
    INTERFACE='eth0'
    IP='dhcp'
    If you use a different interface then obviously, you need to change it accordingly

  • What is the keyboard shortcut to close a floating window?

    Hiya, just upgraded to Logic 9 from 7 and I can't close floating windows with option-w.
    Is there a way I can close floating windows without using my mouse?

    Thanks for the quick reply
    I am trying to close floating windows (effects and instruments) using ALT-W not CMD-W.
    Ah, okay, never used that one. Have you checked your *Key Commands* that this shortcut actually still is assigned? Even if it is, it might just help to reassign it (to the same keycombo).
    (much later:)
    Mm, I did a search of Logic key commands, but I cannot find any command that closes floating windows, alt-W is not a default shortcut for anything... to what command exactly did you assign alt-W?

    I don't believe we've received reports like this from others.   So I think your prefs folder may have been corrupted somehow.
    Try nuking your prefs folder which is in (on XP) C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Application Data\Adobe\Audition\4.0
    and then relaunching.

  • Is there a keyboard shortcut to close all unselected windows (background windows). This is for pop ups not blocked by the safari block pop up preference. This would be different to [cmd q] as it would leave the selected window with her tabs active...

    this is for safari.
    Thanks!

    None that I know of - Option clicking a tab 'x' closes all others, but doesn't work for windows, here.
    Between Ghostery & Adblock Safari extensions, you'd rarely see a pop-up at all.

    I use Arch and openbox for my laptop.  Unfortunately, when I dock/undock to my dual screens, I often end up with windows left out of reach.

    Good idea! It's one of those "gah, why didn't I think of that?" ideas.
    I most often run into off-screen windows in Twinview mode when there is no second monitor though, so they're technically "on-screen" as far as the system is concerned and wouldn't be caught by this script (at least I don't think they would, from a cursory examination). It did however inspire me to write something with xdotool to move the active window to the mouse location with an Openbox keybind: http://xyne.archlinux.ca/scripts/openbox/#winhere
    Until now I've been focusing the window, maximizing it, then dragging it onto the visible screen.
