Keyboard shortcut to extend a clip???

Is there a keyboard shortcut for adding available frames to the
end/ start of a clip once it is in the project timeline in FCPX???

Move the playhead past the end of the selected clip - Shift X will extend the end of the selected clip to the playhead. If the clip is shorter than the position of the playhead, Shift-X will extend the clip to its end.  PS - The selection of the clip should be either the left or right edge (as if you were clicking on an end to make a trim edit) and not the entire clip.

  • Keyboard Shortcut for moving a clip in timeline to a higher or lower track?

    Hi all,
Sure seems like this should exist but I cannot find it.
I want to be able to select clips in the timeline and click a keyboard shortcut to have the clip jump straight up to the next track above.
Anyone know if this is possible?
I have six hours of edited material and literally thousands of B-camera clips to move.... a keyboard shortcut would really help in this situation.
    Thanks,
    Matt

In the PDF files of the FCP user manual, and in the Quick Reference (Keyboard Shortcuts) menu item from within FCP.
Option-↑ (that's Option & the Up Arrow) This works provided that there are no clips in the track space directly above the clips that you're looking to move. (if there are clips, it will fail; you'd need to select those clips as well for it to work. That or move those clips first.)< </div>
So, we all have to ask, "Why isn't this in the manuals? And, we might as well ask, how many other undocumented features are there in FCP? "

  • Is there a keyboard shortcut to keep a clip in sync as you move it vertically to other tracks?

I noticed that if you take a clip and hold down the shift key after starting to move it, there is an interesting behavior which forces the clip to be stuck to that track; in other words, you can only move it horizontally to other parts of the same track, but not vertically. So, it would make sense to me, that there should be some modifier keyboard shortcut that would allow me to do the opposite: move a clip up and down the timeline vertically to other tracks, while maintaining sync, not allowing it to move horizontally. In fact, that seems to make more sense than the shift-key trick anyway... Does anyone know if this exists? Thanks!

    Hi Kevin,
Thank you but I am aware of snapping. The issue is, it works relatively well, but not perfectly always. If your playhead is nearby it may try to snap the clip to that; it may also try to snap to other clips above or below; and lastly if you move the mouse a little bit too much too quickly, you might shift it away from the 'snapping' just enough to throw it out of sync. To put it simply, I find it's not strict enough.
Also, I know of the keystroke to move up and down. But it's not helpful when you have to make bigger moves across the timeline.
Perhaps it would be make more sense if I told you what I'm up to: on this particular project we have concert footage from tons of cameras all synced together. Sometimes for reasons I won't try to explain, I have to move a clip up or down by 10-20 tracks. So the keyboard shortcut isn't helpful only because of the distance I have to travel with the clip. So basically I was hoping for something that I could press down that, unlike snapping, would be strict and absolute in its behavior, just like the shift-key forces the clip to not move to other tracks. In order to work fast, it would just make it easier rather than having to worry about looking at the little yellow timecode pop-up to see if I'm staying in sync or if it's accidentally snapping to the playhead and shifting it by 4 frames, for example.
No huge deal, it would just be nice for larger timelines and I don't really understand the use of the shift-key forcing a clip to remain on the same track, seems like what I'm trying to do would be a little more common, I would think...
    Thank you!

  • Is there a keyboard shortcut to duplicate a clip on the timeline?

Is there a key I can hold down while selecting a clip on the timeline and immediately duplicate it?

No. But you can use the standard Copy/Paste shortcuts.

  • Premiere Pro CC: shortcut to select multiple clips at playhead?

When cutting interviews in the timeline I often split multiple tracks (Shift+Command+K) at two points, select all clips in between by mouse and then do a Ripple delete. I'd love to avoid touching the mouse here, so: Is there a keyboard shortcut to select ALL Clips under the playhead or to the left/right of the playhead? I know there are key commands for these kind of selections, but they are only affecting video track 1 and I did not find a way to extend the selection to all tracks (without touching the mouse).

Yes, that's true, when using my method described above, Prem adds each clip from the first frame and cuts it off when it reaches the next Marker, then I use the Slip tool to get them to the bit I like. I'd just like to remove the step of typing the time into the Playhead Position counter by dropping Markers at set intervals or by choosing to use the first xx seconds in the Automate to Sequence dialogue. Either way, the request is in now, but it doesn't look like it'll gain a lot of traction...!
    Cheers for the responses, Jim.

  • Need the keyboard shortcut

    Forum
This is driving us a bit nuts. Is there a keyboard shortcut to finding a clip that is in the timeline, in the bin it resides in? Working with a lot of bins, it gets a bit tedious and time consuming opening each bin one by one and looking for the clip name. This is an often used little item when editing on an Avid and I'm hoping FCP has the same thing.
Hopefully someone knows what I'm talking about.
Avid Editor now an FCP convert.

Great, I'll give it a shot.
    Thank you.

  • Photoshop CS3 Extended Keyboard Shortcut Not Working

I installed the CS3 Master Collection that included Photoshop CS3 Extended. I've used Photoshop for going on a decade and I find the CTRL+ALT+I keyboard shortcut really handly to pop open the Image Size window.
Now, in this new version (don't after a clean format, reinstall of my XP OS) the shortcut no longer works. I check and it still has CTRL+ALT+I listed next to Image Size in the drop down menu as the proper keys, but it does not work.
    Anyone having this issue?

I tried resetting the preferences but to no avail.
I'm avoiding having to do an uninstall/reinstall like the plague so If I can find what's causing it and fix it manually that would be preferred.
I have thought about running the Adobe updater but I'm concerned that it may cause more problems that it would fix (as this has happed to me before with other apps). Everything else works great and this is the only issue I've noticed.
Does anyone know if the update for Photoshop CS3 Extended addressed his issue (or knows of another cause that might be behind it)?

  • What is the keyboard Shortcut to go to the last frame or end of a clip?

I used to have this shortcut set up, but I reformatted my mac and now I can't find it anywhere. I've searched the forums and can't find it, and yes, I looked at the help and looked at the manual. I've also went to Tools->Keyboard Layout and went through every keyboard shortcut listed. It is probably staring me right in the face!
The closest I can find is the "goto next edit".
I do a lot of photo montages and had this shortcut set up so I could double clip the photo on the timeline, set my first keyframes and then shortcut to the end of the photo and set my last keyframes so I can do my "Ken Burns" effects. I actually had set a macro on my mouse to simulate the keyboard shortcut.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks

yes it is Michael, but our poster gave particular criteria where he loads a timeline instance of a clip in to the viewer and then wants to navigate to the first and last frame in the timeline instance of that clip ... which is in effect the in and the out point, hence Shift I and Shift O

  • No keyboard shortcuts for playing / resuming video clips?

Are there any keyboard shortcut to play / resume video clips in the Photos app?
It's super annoying needing to click on the play button every time I navigate to a new clip!

  • Keyboard shortcut to show content on extended monitor

I am using dual monitors and would like to know if there is a keyboard shortcut that would quickly move the active content on one monitor to the extended or alternate monitor.  Is this possible?

you can select the link button on the instruments header next to View...
with this selected every track you select will display the software inst (or plug-in if you have open it before and it will display only plug-ins on that slot (eg.slot 1)) assigned to it...disable it if you'd like to compare 2 different plug-ins etc
else you can press the V key when you have an instrument displayed and you would like for example to edit in the arrange ..by pressing V you hide it and bring it back into view..instead of moving it around/close it to edit...

  • Keyboard Shortcut for adding clip to queue when importing from P2 card

Does anyone know what the keyboard shortcut is for adding a clip to the queue when importing from a P2 card? Thanks!

That would be the Log Clip button which is defaulted to F2.

  • Keyboard shortcut for selecting clips

I'd like to program a button or buttons on my control surface to select clips in the timeline. Are there keyboard shortcuts for selecting clips? (it's not "x")

    Thanks RedTruck.
The problem with x is that it seems to mark every clip, but I think you may be on to something. Is there a keyboard command for selecting the target track? I could possibly add that command to the macro to make this work....trying to get to mouse-free editing.

  • PS3 Extended - keyboard shortcut for advancing one frame?

    HI,
I just can't find any keyboard shortcut to advance one frame forward/backwards while working with a video file in PS3 Extended.
Would be very helpfull while painting, cloning etc.
    Thanks,
    Michal

In case, exporting single frames is your prefered share-option:
    Open Prefs/Destinations
    ctrl-click on 'Export actual frame'
    set to 'Standard:
From now on, hit cmd-E to export the actual frame ...
And no '' here, this is a User2user board ...

  • Insert and overwrite keyboard shortcuts making unlinked clips.

I recently switched from Mac to Windows; on the Mac, the insert/overwrite shortcuts would put the clip in the timeline as a linked clip (so the audio and video were considered a single clip). However, after switching to Windows, I've noticed that those shortcuts put the clip in the timeline unlinked, and I don't know how to change that. I'm really hoping to fix it, as it significantly slows down my editing. Thanks.

    Hi Jacob,
Click the Linked Selection button. You should be OK after that.
    Thanks,
    Kevin

  • In Premiere Pro CC 2014 Is there a "go to timecode" keyboard shortcut??

So I looked around a bit, and I can't seem to find the keyboard shortcut for this. So rather than give up, I decided to finally join this forum so I can ask the experts. As well as find other answers to nagging questions I have about adobe products in general.
Basically I am just trying to find a way to jump around my timeline using timecode, without having to reach over to my mouse and click on this: every time I want to change the timecode.
Thanks in advance. Any help is greatly appreciated.

On my system you don't have to use the mouse.
If you have the timeline panel or the Program panel active, and start entering numbers on the numeric keypad portion of the keyboard, they automatically begin to populate the timecode window. Hit enter on the keypad and the playhead is moved to the timecode location you have entered.
If you use Shift + 0 to switch to the Source monitor, again, just typing numbers on the numeric portion of the keyboard populates the timecode window. Hit enter on the keypad and the source monitor playhead is moved to the timecode location within the clip you have entered.
The catch, as I said, is that you must be entering a timecode number that can be found within the duration of clip, otherwise your typing is ignored. No mousing required.
