Keyboard shortcut to merge cells in a table?

Does anyone know if there's a keyboard shortcut to merge cells in a table in Pages? That would save me a tremendous amount of time. I've looked in the documentation, and there wasn't one listed.

It was written MANY times that every user may link a shortcut to every available menu item (I took this shortcut for this forum on 2009/01/20).
It's not an application feature but a System's one.

  • Custom keyboard shortcut to merge cells in Numbers?

    How do I create custom keyboard shortcut to merge cells in Numbers? The instructions on the support site say to open Keyboard in preferences then click the +. I don't see a plus anywhere. On any menu.

    The Merge Cell command does not have a keyboard short cut.  You can, however, add one to your user space as follows:
    Open System Preferences, then select the keyboard panel:
    On the left click the "Application Shortcut" then on the right select Numbers.  now click the "+"
    Now enter the exact name of the menu item "Merge Cells" (by looking up the name of the menu item in the menus of Numbers), then selec the "Keyboard Shortcut" field and type the exact key combination you want to use.  Be sure it is unique from other Numbers key combination.

  • In Yosemite version of Numbers, how keyboard shortcut for "Merge Cells" can be created?

    In Yosemite version of Numbers, how keyboard shortcut for "Merge Cells" can be created?

    OK, I've been doing this since CS2 with no need for a script. To hide guides and show preview...
    1) Go to 'Keyboard Shortcuts'
    2) Go to 'Product Area - Tools'. Yes, you'd think it would be in Views! But the buttons for this is at the bottom of the Tool Bar.
    3) Go to 'Commands: Toggle view setting between default and preview'
    4) Click your cursor inside 'New Shortcut' and hit the key you want or type it in. I choose the unused F2 key
    5) Click the 'Assign' button and you are set. Hit the key to switch back and forth.
    As for your mouse Zoom, use Power Zoom as described above or just hold down the Alt/Option button in 'Hand' mode and use the scroll wheel to zoom in and out. Not one step but it works!
    Now you won't miss Quark at all!

  • [CS3/CS4 JS] How can you get the associatedXMLElement of a merged cell in a table?

    Hi!
    Inserting a table, and autotagging it, I get a table with a number of cell elements in the XML Structure.
    Selecting an item in the table, I can find the associated XML by the following line of code:
    app.selection[0].associatedXMLElement
    My problems begin when cells are merged. Then the associatedXMLElement for the cell returns null.
    How can I find the associatedXMLElement for a merged cell?
    Using the getElements makes no difference.
    app.selection[0].getElements()[0].associatedXMLElement
    (returns null)
    In the XML structure I can see that the merged cell is still associated to an XML Element, which becomes underlined and also referrs back to the cell, selecting it when double clicking the XML Element link in the structure.
    Is there no way to get to the xml element of a merged cell?
    I have tested in CS3 and CS4 as well, and they act in the same way.
    I also found a similar, unanswered, question from Anne-Laure Jallon in the "With CS3, some things have changed" ( http://forums.adobe.com/message/1105813#1105813 ):
    Hello,
    I'm working with VBscript.
    Is there a difference between cell.associatedXmlElement in CS2 and CS3?
    All my cells in CS2 had an associatedXmlElement.
    In CS3, my table has an associatedXmlElement, but all its cells don't (The value is Nothing)
    Is this a bug? Is it linked with XML evolution?   Thanks Anne Laure
    Adding some more info:
    I made a test, by selecting the XMLElement in the structure, and from that object finding the cell, and finding back to the assiciatedXMLElement:
    app.selection[0].getElements()[0].cells[0].associatedXMLElement
    Result: [object XMLElement]
    So that kind of "chain" works.
    But with the merged cell as only reference, I can't find its associatedXMLElement. Any ideas would be appreciated.

    In my opinion, locate a cell according to his content is not so effortable. What happens if contents of more than two cells are equals?
    I take xml elements of associated xml element of table and put them into an array.
    This array contains associated xml elements of every cell ordered by cell positions into table.
    Now, locate associated xml element of a cell based on its array position (index) is more reliable:
    var myCell_cell = app.selection[0];
    var myElement = myCell.associateXMLElement
    if (!myElement || !myElement.isValid)  {
         var table =  myCell.parent;
         var xml_tab = table.associatedXMLElement;
         var xml_cells_arr = xml_tab.xmlElements.everyItem().getElements();
         var idx = myCell.index;
         myElement = xml_cells_arr[idx];

  • In Safari is there a Keyboard shortcut for Merge All Windows?

    Majority of sites sill open new pages in new windows, not new tabs. So, I keep using the Merge All Windows feature all the time. Please, provide a keyboard shortcut for this!

    Although there is no default keyboard shortcut for the menu item in question, there is nothing preventing you from creating your own.
    Under System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts, press the "+" sign. From the Application drop-down menu, choose Safari. In the Menu Title field enter "Merge All Windows" -- without the quotes. In the Keyboard Shortcut field, enter your desired key combo and then click the Add button.
    You'll need to quit System Preferences and restart Safari for the change to take effect. Good luck.

  • Numbers - keyboard shortcut for fill cell colour?

    Hi there,
    just as the title says, speed up workflow by a shortcut just to fill a cell with a certain colour?

    This is not a feature of Numbers.  I would probably set the color in a cell of a dummy table, then copy and paste as needed.

  • How to merge cells in tables if SmartForms like colspan/rowspan in HTML

    Hi!
    Is it possible to merge cells in a tables in SmartForms like colspan/rowspan parameters in HTML?
    Both horisontal and vertical merging needed both in header and in body of the table.
    Thanks!

    No it is not possible.
    For merging purpose we have to create seperate windows for that col or rows.

  • Custom keyboard shortcut not working in Numbers '09

    I wanted to create a shortcut for merging cells.  I added the shortcut (option-N) to the system preferences like the other posts on this site have suggested.  It shows up in Numbers immediately.  I try to use the shortcut and all I get is a "beep."  I check the drop down list under "Table" and I can clearly see "Merge Cells" and my newly created shortcut.  I can click on THAT and it merges the cells.  But my shortcut won't work.
    Sup with that?

    For anyone still having this problem, I tried the same thing with the merge cells and it was making the noise as well. I tried to do option-m and it wouldn't work, then I tried option-command-m and it worked! I think it maybe that command had another task assigned to it so it couldn't process both. Try a different command and maybe it will work. Also, it worked with I would click on the task bar at the top, and then push option-m, very strange.

  • Code for merging cells

    what is the code for merging cells ? to create a shortcut ?

    "Merging cells" usually means combining two cells so they are one. The screenshot below shows cells B2 and C2 merged. There is no "code" to do it. Select the two cells, right click, choose "merge cells".
    But if you meant how do you take the values from two cells and concatenate them together, you can use the & operator or the CONCATENATE function. The formula in cell D3 is shown in the formula bar in the image below.
    A "shortcut" usually means a "keyboard shortcut" which is the assignment of a key (or combination of keys) to a menu item.  For instance, Command S is the shortcut for File/Save or File/Save As.  You can assign shortcuts to menu items by opening up System Preferences and going to the Keyboard section.
    But if you meant "hyperlink" such as to a web page, you can use the HYPERLINK function or just type in the link and et Numbers automatically detect it as a link.

  • Merge Cells in Numbers

    I am using Numbers 3.2.2 on an iMac running 10.9.4 and after selecting a number of cells, the "Merge Cells command under "Table" is not highlighted therefore disallowing the merge.   They are cells in the body of the spreadsheet not header cells.

    Hi Baron,
    after selecting a number of cells, the "Merge Cells command under "Table" is not highlighted therefore disallowing the merge.
    How are you selecting cells? When I select adjacent cells, the Merge option is allowed. When I select non-adjacent cells by command-click, the Merge option is not allowed.
    However, I agree with quinn that merging is not advisable. There are other ways to create the look you want. Have you tried a Text Box as a banner?
    Regards,
    Ian.

  • ABAP WD: ALV merge cells

    Hello,
    I have a hierarchical ALV. I need to merge some cells in it.
    For instance, there is a column name: Brand Name. There are multiple rows that have same brand name, let's say SONY.
    Is it possible to merge these cells that have same brand name? If so what should I use?
    Thank you.

  • Keyboard shortcut to select table strokes?

    Hi,
    I was wondering if there's any quick way to select table strokes?
    Cheers,
    Trish

    In the Keyboard Shortcut Editor (bottom of the Edit menu), you can assign a hotkey to "Cell Options:Stroke & Fill". That's in the Tables Menu product area. It calls up the generic Cell Options dialog, but at least the stroke proxy is a bit larger there!

  • Keyboard shortcut to open a cells pop-up menu and select from list of options.

    I guessed Option-Return would be the shortcut from this, as it typically lets you edit a cells contents, but no. Read the keyboard Shortcuts list in Numbers>Help but didn't see anything.

    Hi ts,
    Thanks for drawing my attention to this! Let's add some missing detail…
    While "you just press spacebar" to open the pop-up menu, that won't select a menu item.
    After you've opened the menu, 'you could press the first letter' of an entry, ( 'like every other pop-up list on Earth,') or you could press the down arrow to step down the list (and the up arrow to step up, if you went beyond the item you wanted to choose).
    And you can change your mind; the menu will stay open until you confirm your choice (by pressing the space bar again, OR by pressing return OR by pressing enter).
    Note that pressing the first letter will select the 'smallest' item name beginning with that letter. To move to another item name starting with that letter, you'll need to use the up or down arrow key (or the mouse).
    Thanks again for posting. With luck, WideEyedPupil will still be monitoring this discussion, and will see these posts.
    Regards,
    Barry

    There's probably another way but if you enable the Emoji keyboard (settings/general/keyboard/international keyboards/add keyboard/Emoji) then it's available there.
