Keyboard Shortcuts crashes inDesign cs5

Everytime I go to edit> keyboard shortcuts on indesign cs5, my cursor starts spinning...and spinning... and spinning....never stops and I just have to kill it through task manager!
Anyone know how to fix this??

That sounds like a conflict of some sort with a plugin or other software running on all the computers. Mac or PC? Any non-Adobe plugins, including a font auto-activation plugin from a font manager?

How do I change the quit indesign keyboard shortcut? (indesign CC, mac)

Now this seems like it should be a simple task, right? Head up to the edit menu and click on keyboard shortcuts, find the quit app shortcut and change it to what I need. Why bother changing it you ask? Well for some reason out of the blue, my indesign quits everytime I try to select all (cmd+a) and completely ignores the usual cmd+q shortcut despite it saying in the top menu that that is what the shortcut is set to. So after quitting indesign several times thinking it was crashing I then realised I was closing the app myself but through a keyboard shortcut that I never set up so I need to change it back. But here's the thing, I cant find the quit indesign shortcut setting anywhere in indesign CC. As it was no where to be found I thought perhaps I could rectify this by restoring my inDesign default settings... Nope, no good. So I need some help.

I've never even heard of a problem like this.
The only thing I can think of is that the current shortcut that closes indesign for you is somehow set in the System Preferences for closing a program.
But I don't know why "Exit" isn't in your Keyboard Shortcut sets?

Importing / Transferring Keyboard Shortcuts into Photoshop CS5

Hello, i am testing out Photoshop 5 and it looks good so far, yet some obstacles are left to solve. For example i wonder how to get the keyboard shortcuts from my old Photoshop (the .kys file) into the PS5? There is no import. I would even manually transfer, but opening the file in a texteditor just shows weird stuff (there was a guy who manually transfered his indesign shortcuts in such a way, but since he used a normal text editor i guess these files are of a different structure)

It depends on which windows system you have, but for vista and windows 7, probably the best
place to put the kys file is:
C:\Users\Your Name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CS5\Presets\Keyboard Shortcuts

Fix for System Preferences Keyboard Shortcuts crash

This is not a question, but a solution to a problem that proved difficult to identify and fix for me and three Apple Support personnel, so I thought I should post it here in case others encounter the same issue. I spent a lot of time searching the web and Apple Discussions for this and related issues did not come up with any solutions.
After migrating from Snow Leopard on 2009 MacBook Pro to Yosemite on a new MBP using the Migration Assistant, things went surprisingly smoothly for the most part, until I opened the Keyboard pane of System Preferences. Then, clicking on the Shortcuts tab immediately caused System Preferences to crash, reproducibly.
Crash Reporter pointed loosely to a keyboard-related preference setting. But "com.apple.preference.keyboard" is the name of an OS process, not a .plist file. I searched the web to try to find out where Keyboard Shortcut settings are stored in Yosemite, and also for a possible way to reset the settings to default in Terminal (e.g. using the "defaults" routine), without success. (Apple Support was not happy that I had Terminal open when they shared my screen, and seemed never to have heard of this routine).

Repairing disk permissions, rebooting in Safe Mode, zapping the PRAM, and trashing ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences, some keyboard-related .plist files, and the system prefs and International prefs caches did not fix the problem. With Apple Support, we isolated the problem to my user account, as the same crash did not occur in a test account, or in another account migrated at the same time. Nevertheless, Apple's techs had me removing various menu items and programs also running in these accounts that I had deactivated (Sophos AntiVirus, Little Snitch, etc), and downloading and reinstalling Yosemite, which seemed unlikely to address the cause, given that my main user account was the only one affected.
Apple never had me check 3rd party preference panes (which I should have thought to do earlier myself). Opening and closing an older version of Default App ((RCDefaultApp 2.0.1), a free 3rd party utility, in the Preferences pane, transiently solved the problem. However, it recurred on removing it, and was not fixed by installing the latest release of this preference pane, nor did removing three other 3rd party preferences panes (MacFUSE, a Citrix app, and Flash Player).
Finally I went back to ~/Library/Preferences and looked for any files that had been modified around the time the problem transiently disappeared, and stumbled upon com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist. After viewing its contents with Property List Editor and finding this article, I thought that this file was likely the problem.
I logged into my root account, verified that Shortcuts worked fine there, and that this file changed with a change in Shortcut settings, and (after renaming the offender to save it as a backup), replaced the file in my main user account with a copy of the one from the root account.
I repaired permissions in the offending account, rebooted, and voilà - problem solved!
NB If you are in a similar situation, before trying this fix (at your own risk!), I strongly advise backing up your computer first, and saving a copy of the presumed offending file in case you have to put it back because of unforeseen consequences. You do not need to enable and use the root account; instead you could log in to a new administrator account, or another user account, verify that Shortcuts works fine there (it would not be a bad idea to set up any user-defined App Shortcuts you want there); and copy the file to a shared folder.
Then switch back into the offending account, go to your user Library/Preferences folder (~/Library/Preferences using Go To Folder in Finder), and replace com.apple.symbolichotkeys.plist in that account with the one from the shared folder. You should then repair disk permissions afterwards and restart.
If it works, Shortcuts should open fine. Be sure to check each category in the left-hand panel of the Shortcuts panel (e.g. LaunchPad & Dock, Mission Control, etc.) for conflicts, and resolve those by disabling the offending duplicate key combination assignments (I had two, marked by yellow triangle alerts).

no it's not. it's treated differently.
In Leopard, Menu Master let me assign Command+Enter to Address Book > Edit Card. When I attempt the same using Keyboard Shortcuts, both Command+Return and Command+Enter are displayed as Command plus a "return arrow." After that, in Address Book, both Command+Return and Command+Enter invoke the "Edit Card" menu action.

if you want to use those keys in the shortcuts use one of the many 3rd party app launchers. any one of them will let you do this: Qucisilver, Butler, Spark, Launchbar, ikeys, quickeys etc.
I've been using QuicKeys since the beginning of time, and I have some experience with Butler and LaunchBar. They're useful for what they do. But, as far as I know, none add keyboard shortcuts that are displayed directly in the menus. That display feature is what makes Menu Master and Systems Prefs > Keyboard Shortcuts so attractive.
that's because Menu Master is a haxie. none of the other programs mentioned are. you want such functionality you are going have to use a haxie. personally - i stay away from them as they destabilize the system.
When I'm considering new shortcuts, I use KeyCue to display all current shortcuts in a single display. KeyCue now displays QuicKeys shortcuts in the same display, which is a big help.

Shortcuts missing InDesign CS5.5 W7

My shortcuts desappeared from InDesign...I was working with the program just peachy and now I can't even type because 'ENTER' won't work! Checked my menus and all the shortcuts have dissapeared!!! 0.0. Not even when I open old files were everything worked fine....Any fix for this? OS W7 Ultimate. Thanx.

Hello again. Yeap, tried that too. But, don't worry I have good news, I found a solution and it worked for me EDIT>KEYBOARD SHORTCUTS and reset the DEFAULT. Opening file crashes Indesign CS5. What now?

I was able to find a discussion about this, but it seem like it ended without a solution.
If this is a font issue, is there a solution to this? I went to Font Book and cleared out any errors from all my fonts.
I created multiple backup files for this particular file and none of them open. All of them crashes my Indesign CS5.
Any suggestion on what I can do?

(I'm still not sure what the AdobeBIB library is, but the CoolType and Optical Kerning are big enough hints, I think.)

No keyboard shortcuts in InDesign CS4

the keyboard shortcuts doesn't shown in any menu.
the "edit>keyboard shortcuts" has no available set, or even not creating new set.
in othyer apps (PS, Illustaror, flash) it's fine.
they are not working obviously, it's not only visual matter.
does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it?

It sounds like the reinstall is also damaged.
I'd try again after running the cleaner tool: CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3
Make sure you are logged in with an adminsitrator account, and turn off you Anti-virus and Malware scanners. You may even want to go as far as a "clean boot" for the installation. See How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

BUG: Changing text colours within a text block: Keyboard shortcuts problem (Photoshop CS5)

In earlier versions of Photoshop, I could double click a Paragraph Text to edit it, then select individual words and change their colours using the Ctrl+Backspace and Alt-Backspace keyboard shortcuts (to change them to either Background or Foreground colours).
In PhotoShop CS5, Alt+Backspace is OK, but Ctrl-Backspace deletes the highlighted word! Not good. I believe this is a bug, can it be fixed to revert to the old behaviour?

I fully understand what you're saying, and while I'm all for compatibility, user interface change cannot be accomplished without, well, change.
Imagine, for example, that thousands of people could have reported that they couldn't delete the prior word with Ctrl-Backspace while using the T tool in Photoshop, while they could with every other application on their systems. Imagine that none of the users like you reported that they were happy with things the way they already are.
Perhaps the best approach in a situation like this would have been for Adobe to add a configuration option somewhere to allow individual users to make the choice. But EVEN THEN there's a push from the Marketing types to simplify the number of choices given to customers, probably because doing so reduces support costs (imagine, for example, someone brainlessly setting it to your flavor of Ctrl-Backspace, then calling support to complain that they can't delete the prior word as they have always been able to do). There are a lot of requests on this forum that read like "I must have changed a setting somewhere, but I'll be darned if I can find it."
Microsoft and Adobe have both moved lately in this direction (reducing choices and configurability), reportedly to "reduce the cognitive load" on presumably ever less intelligent users, with ill effects in many cases. Unfortunately, "you can have it any way you like so long as it's our way" seems to be the way of the future.

Keyboard Shortcuts Crashes when selected in system prefrences.

I added a shortcut in my keyboard shortcuts and system prefrences crashed on me and now every time I go to the keyboard shortcuts tab system prefrences crashes. I deleted the system prefrences plist and tried searching around to try and revert my settings back to before but it isn't working. Anybody have any ideas what to do?
I repaired permissions, used preferential treatment, and many other things. There has to be some plist file or prefrence file that I can delete to get rid of the changes that caused the crash.
Any help would be great.

Have you tried using the application, Preferential Treatment. This helps fix clean up any corrupted plist files.

Download the Panther Version, since you are running 10.3
Then Select theses options:
Daily Cron, Weekly Cron, Monthly Cron, Repair Permissions, Update Prebindings, Clear System Cache, Clear User Cache, Clear Font Cache, (If you want you can clear the logs also, I do)
Also, to help isolate the issue, try creating a new user to see if it is user specific or system wide.
Let me know if this helps you... If not there are more options.

Can`t find keyboard shortcuts in EN_GB cs5 folder for AI.

normally the keyboard shortcuts save to this folder EN_GB for CS5 AI.. as a file named KBSC KYS file.
I cant locate it now either in the cs5 or cs4 directory which used to have the same...
any ideas where its gone?

I think I found it, its no longer titled KBSC but the icon reads "prefs" and grey text "adobe premiere keys" for some reason..
there are the "illustrator defaults", and my custom shortcuts titled "marks",
I dont know why the icon title has changed though, for CS4, perhaps this happened when I installed the upgrade for CS5, can`t think of any other reason.
as its the same in the CS5 en_GB folder.
When I pasted the CS4 "marks" into the CS5 en_GB folder, they worked as my shortcuts in Ai CS5...

My keyboard shortcut kept crashing, every time I clicked the shortcut, the setting just crashed and I tried to restart the device, it still the same...

Count me in. I have an iPhone 5S and iPad Mini 2, both running iOS 8.1. The problem of crashing when accessing the keyboard shortcut settings started with on my iPhone and now it's also happening on my iPad. I go to Settings, General, Keyboard, and as soon as I tap Shortcuts, it crashes the Settings app and sends me back to the Home Screen. I'm unable to view or edit my keyboard shorts. When I try to use the keyboard shortcuts, only my old saves work. Can't access to view, add, edit, or delete. Please fix, Apple. I've called about this several times and got the usual runaround about signing in and out of iCloud and even restored my devices. Nothing has worked. Then the reps say they will get back to me and never do. Customer service has seen better days...

Crashing InDesign CS5

My InDesign CS5 crashes or hangs all the time. Is there a download to fix this without upgrading?

You can check to see if there are any available updates from the Help menu, and you can check the current version by holding down the Cmd key while you choose About InDesing from the InDesign menu.
You can post a crash report on pastebin.com and put a link here (DO NOT post the report in the forum). We might get a clue about the cause of the crash. You can also see Adobe Forums: InDesign CS5.5 Not Responding for instructions on getting a hang report and converting the hang to a crash.

FolioBuilder crashes InDesign CS5

The FolioBuilder crashes InDesign everytime I hit the locate button in the "import article" window.
Is this a known issue? How can it be fixed?
I already tried to un/reinstall InDesign and the latest updates on DPS without success.

This is a known issue. The workaround is to paste the pathname into the field.

Keyboard shortcuts in Bridge CS5

Is there any way of modifying the keyboard shortcuts in Bridge or introducing new ones? Control+R opens Camera Raw hosted by Bridge; I would like to change this to open Camera Raw hosted by Photoshop, or make a new short cut to this effect, instead of using the 'Open with' menu item.

There is already a keyboard shortcut for what you want to do. Control+O opens Camera Raw hosted by Photoshop.
