Keyboard shortcuts defaults after reboot

I have changed some of the system keyboard shortcuts, but after a reboot they go back to their default setting.
I'm suspecting that I have a corrupted preference file or something, since I have also experienced some strange crashes.
Is there a program that can "clean" the preference folder or where do I find the plist that contains keyboard shortcuts?
Thanks!

If your preferences are not sticking, you could well have a permissions problem. But, note that "Repair Permissions" does not look at anything in your Home folder.
Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste the following into the Terminal window, one line at a time, with a return after each line:
ls -ld ~/Library/Preferences/
ls -l ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Copy and paste the result from the Terminal window to a post here.
Also, we might as well see the current settings, so copy and paste again:
defaults read ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences com.apple.preference.keyboard.configkeys.trianglestate
Post that output as well.

  • T520 Ultranav buttons reset to default after reboot

I love the touchpad and make extensive use of its capabilities.  Nearly half of the programmable functions were reinitialized to factory default after reboot when I first bought my t520.  Most of the problems were  resolved little by little with subsequent software releases.   The only problem that has not been resolved is the reinitialization of the left and right buttons.    I have set them up to execute pre-recorded keystrokes.  After I reboot, the left and right buttons are reset to left and right clicks respectively.    Interestingly, the keystroke sequences are retained.  I just have to highlight the "Record and play....."  text and apply the change.     It's livable but it's annoying.    My drivers are up to date, windows is up to date, computer is clean as I am very selective as to what I install.    Anyone else have initialization problems like this?

go to the folder /library/preferences/audio and delete everything in it. then restart and see if sound preferences hold from now on.
note: that's the library at the top level of the drive, not in your home directory.

  • After iOS 8 upgrade keyboard shortcuts gone, just reboot

    FYI,
apparently this also happened with the ios7 upgrade. Per the related ios7 thread, after a manual reboot of the phone, the shortcuts reappeared. The reboot solved my problem as my keyboard shortcut settings reappeared after reboot.

I lost all my keyboard shortcuts on my iPhone 5s after upgrading to iOS 8. They still showed up on my iPad Air (iOS 8) and iMac (10.9.5). There were, however, massive sync problems, sometimes they would only flow from one device to all the others, sometimes from one device to only one of the other two, sometimes not at all.
I deleted all my shortcuts and started from scratch, deleting “~/Library/Application Support/Ubiquity”, ~/Library/Dictionaries” and “~/Library/Mobile Documents/com~apple~TextInput” from the iMac and KeyboardDomain from my iOS devices.
    Rebooted everything a dozen times.
Toggled Documents & Data Sync off and on a dozen times too in all kinds of combination with rebooting and deleting the aforementioned files.
Everything always starts working and syncing fine for a very short while, but sooner or later one of my devices stops receiving new shortcuts as I re-add them.
I reboot that device and it catches up. I enter new shortcuts, and that device doesn’t get any new shortcuts. This time, a reboot doesn’t fix anything.
After using my devices for a while, I notice shortcuts are entirely gone from both the iPhone and iPad, but not from the iMac.
I even upgraded my iPhone 5s to a 6, and right off the bat it had issues with keyboard shortcut sync. I also setup my iPad as new, and same thing: right off the bat, sync issues with keyboard shortcuts.

  • Bluetooth problems: prefs revert to defaults after reboot

    Hi there,
I have a strange problem with Bluetooth and wireless input devices. I have set up Apple wireless keyboard and mouse, and also ticked "Show Bluetooth status in the menu bar" in Bluetooth preferences. However, after I reboot bluetooth icon disappears from the menu bar, and Magic Mouse prefs revert to defaults.
Apart from that, I am not able to tick "Allow Bluetooth devices wake up this computer" in Preferences – Bluetooth – Advanced.
    What can it possibly be?
Before that I had the same issue with Dock (its icons would return to a certain state every time after reboot, no matter how I'd change or rearrange them before restarting). I managed to solve Dock issue by trashing Dock .plist files. I guess it may be the same with Bluetooth, but I don't know which .plist to trash this time (tried deleting com.apple.Bluetooth.plist, it doesn't work).

I don't have a logitech mouse, but is it possible that the mouse is going to sleep during the reboot, and is thus unavailable when the OS is looking for it?

  • Keyboard shortcuts cleared after updating to ios 8.0.2

After updating my iPhone 6 from IOS8 to IOS 8.0.2, the keyboard shortcuts have been cleared out.  I've tried to reset the Keyboard Dictionary but no change.

Many others have the same problem. They say misery loves company. Does this help?

  • Keyboard Shortcuts missing after last upgrade

Almost half of the System > Preferences > Keyboard Shortcuts are not showing up as <Unknown Action> after the last upgrade.  I noticed this because my shortcut for terminal no longer worked.  I also had a problem with how the last upgrade changed my /usr/share/applications/compiz.desktop file...  However, even reverting to the original compiz.desktop file I had built, this issue isn't resolved.

Looks like you now how to open up compiz-settings and turn on gnome-compatibility plugin
    That would resolve.
If not you can use "commands" to set any command you like...
[Edit] You are using compiz, right?

  • Spotlight keyboard shortcut broken after installing 10.10.1

Command-Space is no longer bringing up Spotlight. I've tried restoring default keyboard settings, disabling/enabling Spotlight, rebooting my machine, no luck.
    Anyone know a fix?

For the first time, I needed to do start in Safe Mode on this exact iMac and came across your unanswered question when trying to figure it out.
You cannot restart into Safe Mode, you need to shut down. Hold shift right after you hear the chime. There's also a command line option here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201262
It took an uncomfortably long time and I cursed myself for not running a current backup, but let's hope it solves my impossible to solve wake from sleep problem.

  • How to change Switch between open documents keyboard shortcut (default Control + Tab or Cmd + ~)

I use Control + Tab and Control + Shift + Tab or Cmd + ~ and Cmd + Shift + ~ to switch between tab back and forth alot how do I change the shortcut to something else?
    On Photoshop CC 2014 mac

No, there isn't. you can't even set your own shor cut keys as you don't know what the documents will be named. Normally you can add short cuts keys but only for those menus options that already exist but your documents will change. I have searched for the answer earlier as I also want it.
There is in the Pages Help menu an option for  Keyboard shorcuts but nothing is mentioned ther about changing document windows.

  • External keyboard only works after reboot with Port Replicator III Plus

The problem is that when I boot the notebook, the external PS/2 keyboard doesn't work. When I reboot the keyboard flips on and then I can use it.
This problem occurs on a Toshiba Tecra notebook with a Advanced Port Replicator III Plus. I've used several keyboards, so that isn't the problem. I've changed a value in the bios which is used for USB devices (mouse/keyboard). I disabled the option, because I use a PS/2 mouse and keyboard, but the problem isn't solved. I hope someone has an answer to this problem.

    Hello
I presume that there is something wrong with docking procedure and touchpad. Try to disable the Touchpad while the Notebook is docked.
Try also to install mobile extensions again.

  • Mouse and Keyboard stop working after reboot

So far the computer is working great except for the fact everytime you reboot the keyboard and mouse stop working... I did a clean format x2 and put the service pack on and I am still getting the same problem.
Anyone have this problem or something similair ? Any ideas ?
    Thanks in advance :-)

The problem is not your S/W install. It's with the MSI Motherboard. Your best bet is to ask MSI when a fix will be available, or go buy a different board.

  • Apple Aluminum Keyboard slow responding after reboot

I have Leopard installed on my external firewire drive, and 10.4.1 installed on my PowerBook. Whenever I boot from one to the other I get a very slow response from my new Apple Aluminum Keyboard and my USB trackball. I have the trackball connected to the keyboard's USB port and the keyboard is plugged directly into the PowerBook. When I boot into either system it takes a good five minutes before the keyboard and trackball respond. In the meantime I have to use the keyboard on the PowerBook and the trackpad to login, etc... I also have USB Overdrive installed on both systems, but this problem developed before I installed USB Overdrive in Leopard. Any clues?

Does this new keyboard pair fine with the other computer?
I can only think of two other things given the troubleshooting that has been done so far.
This may be an OS issue (Reinstall the Mac OS) or something in or around your setup is generating interference: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1365 (doubtful as you said you used another computer and it was fine in the same area).
If you have already contacted AppleCare and the replacement keyboard did not resolve the issue you might want to give them a call back to follow-up so they can investigate the issue further.

  • MBP contrast reset to default after reboot

I'm running mavericks on a late 2013 MBP 15 retina and now every time I turn it on I need to open accessibility and tick the bar so it sets the contrast to where I want it. It's not resetting the value, though.

Also, I'm having trouble calibrating through color profiles. Any tips would be appreciated.

  • Feature Request: Adobe, please make After effects CC keyboard shortcuts customizable as in Premiere

I'm making this feature requests because I've tried the only two known methods for customizing keyboard shortcuts in After Affects and neither of these work in CC:
    • 2008 video tutorial on Creative Cow Forum for modifying the After Effects Keyboard shortcuts text file - unfortunately this doesn't work in AE CC
    • a youtube tutorial about how to install KeyedUp for After Effects - tried this but also not able to change any shortcuts in AE CC
One of the things I love most about Premiere Pro CC is how many keyboard shortcuts you can customize. You can even do this in Adobe Audition.
So why not in After Effects?
Adobe please bring this feature to the next update of After Effects CC.

    Hi Todd,
Sorry I replied to you in the Creative Cow forum. Just in case you didn't see my reply there, I'm reposting it here:
Essentially after following the tutorial video very carefully, modifying the shortcuts, making sure there are no traces of other instances of the old shortcut, I save the file then when I reopen AE, I get this window:
Then when I check the folder housing the shortcuts text file I see that my modified shortcut text file simply got renamed "old" at the end of the line:
See second line in window "Shortcuts.txt.old" -> that's the file I modified. It looks like AE simply spawned a new default shortcuts file titled "...Shortcuts.txt"
