Keyboard shortcuts don't stay put after power off

As I use Pro Tools I can't use F11/F12 for dashboard/desktop, so I've used the preferences to set them to F13 and ^F13. This works fine including when I 'sleep' the Mac. However, if I shut the Mac down then the next time it's turned on those shortcuts don't work - they show up in preferences but are not checked, I have to re-check them to enable them. How can I make them stay put?

friend of mine has similiar issues....but her keyboard shortcuts don't even stay. they are reset to the defaults on a restart. she has to enter them again, not just re-enable them.

  • Satellite P300 156 PSPC4E - White Media LEDs stay on after power-off

    HI
    I have a Toshiba Notebook Satellite P Series P300 156 (PSPC4E) which has just developed a problem
When I power off, the laptop shuts down normally and power button itself goes off, but the 6 white media LED's to the right of the power button remain on constantly. The only way to get these to turn themselves off is to disconnect the battery.
    Can anyone please advise
    Many thanks

    Thanks for the replies
I tried altering the BOIS, but that only affects the illuminated strip along the top of the mouse touch pad.
I cant remember which version of BIOS that I got (I'm at work at the moment) but I tried downloading the latest from here (dated 18/03/10), and it made no difference.
Its a strange one. The lights stay on even if the laptop is closed for long periods. They just never go off, unless I take the battery out.

  • Keyboard shortcut command-w stopped working after upgrading to OSX 10.9.4

    Dear all,
after upgrading to OSX 10.9.4 the keyboard shortcut command-w stops working after about 30 min of having the machine powered on. Interestingly, this phenomenon is not restricted to a certain app (Safari, etc.).
In system preferences > keyboard all settings have been set to "default".
Anybody else having the same issue?
    Many thanks,
    wolfgang

    Hi folks,
just as quick documentation for possibly other error sources for the problem "shortcut command-w not working":
If problem persists close all applications (allL!). Then open one app like Safari, open several tabs and check whether command-w works.
Reason: it could happen that you've set command-w inadvertently in another app like Snagit. And when setting this the app did not tell you "listen dummy, this is a standard command, do you really want to replace a standard command with a app-specific command. Don't be surprised if it doesn't work when the app is running."
This is what happened to me. So close all apps and check whether problem persists.
    reg,
    wolfgang

  • IPad WEP password required after power off.

    Hi,
On my ipad mini I am required to re-enter my WEP password after power off.
Why is this and how do I prevent it from happening?
This does not occur on my mbp or iphone 4s.
    Thanks,
    Rob.

Although it should work flawlessly, for some reason mobile devices don't always play nice with WEP.  You're far better off  with WPA2 (security-wise)  anyway.  If you have the ability to change your network's security, it might be easier to just get away from WEP than to try to make your mini work with it.

  • Mac mini won't boot - keyboard shortcuts don't work

Older Intel Mac Mini that I use as an entertainment / movie center. Leopard.
I did a software update recently, but somehow botched it and interrupted the process.
Ever since then, it won't start up correctly. It chimes, disk powers up, but then it gets stuck on the screen with the apple and rotating propeller. Can go on for hours if you let it.
Took it to a dealer, who said it started up fine from another system an I should try starting it in target disk mode an reinstall the OS.
Bought a USB keyboard specifically so I could press the T and tried it.
It seems that none of the keyboard shortcuts work. I tried target disk mode (T), starting from a system disk (C), tried having it give me a choice of bootable volumes (Option) - nothing. It would appear the Mini doesn't recognize my brand new Apple USB keyboard.
Tried the keyboard with my MacBook and there it works fine.
    Any ideas?

OK, just found the answer while browsing the "more like this" answers that appeared after I posted my question.
I wasn't aware that the new Apple Aluminium Keyboard doesn't play nice with the Mini and that the Mini doesn't recognize this particular keyboard in time for the boot sequence.
Thank you for these helpful discussions:

    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1477855?threadID=1477855&tstart=0
Using the remote (press the menu key during boot-up) worked fine and I could choose to boot from a system disk.
Spending $60 for a new keyboard that won't do what I bought it for is, however, another story. Grr.

  • Keyboard shortcuts don't working.

I used to my keyboard shortcuts at my mac, iphone and ipad bur my mac book don't work any more with this shortcuts. All my settings are ok on my iphone and ipad but it don't syncronize.
Some onde can help me with this?

Your user account is not named Administrator, though, is it? You probably don't have the built-in Administrator account turned on (it's off by default). See Built-in Administrator Account - Enable or Disable - Windows 7 Help Forums and Elevated Command Prompt - Windows 7 Help Forums for directions on how to turn this account on and off.
Before you do that, though, you can try some other things. Go to your current user account, as directed in the previous post, and rename the two Adobe folders, reboot and restart ID. New folders should be created, and hopefully the permissions will be correct. If the shortcuts still are not there.
If that doesn't work, delete or rename the new Adobe folders created in the previous attempt, go to Users in Control Panel and create a new user account with and make it an administrator, then log on with that account and start InDesign. If the shortcuts work, copy the Adobe folders to your original user account.
Still not working? Make sure you are logged in on your regular account. On each of the two Adobe folders in your user profile right-click and choose Properties, then the Security tab. Verify that your user and System both have full control.
Still not working? Time to activate the Administrator Account.
Set a Restore Point before you do any of this stuff, just in case....

  • DW CS3 / OS 10.5 - File Palette keyboard shortcuts don't work

Frustrating - on my Dell, I can use the keyboard to
delete/confirm and open files listed in the File Palette. For
example, I can hit backspace/delete and remove a file after
confirming with an Enter. If I want to open a file, I select it and
hit enter - it opens in DW.
The problem lies with my other (preferred) computer. On my
MBPro with OS10.5 and DW CS3, none of my keyboard shortcuts work in
    the same palette.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Pete

When watching videos, I frequently find need to jump forward or backward within the video. I do this using the slider (playhead) on the on screen control.
The problem I have is that if I do that once, from then on, I cannot use the spacebar to play/pause the video. All I get is an annoying beep. Is there a way to reactivate the keyboard controls without having to close Quicktime and restart?
If it makes any difference, I'm running OS X 10.9 on an early 2013 MacBook Pro (15 inch, Retina display). I recently upgraded to Mavericks but the problem predates the upgrade.
What files compression formats and data rates are you using? QT X v10.3 or QT 7 v7.6.6 player? (Assume v10.3 from topic title but wanted to confirm.)
Basically, I am unable to duplicate the stated problem on an iMac using H.264/AAC test files with data rates up to 20+ Mbps in either QT player app. Do have a problem with QT 7 player app being able to "jump" to a new playhead position in high data rate files probably due to a need to read/traverse all of the intervening data. (I.e., can sometimes take several seconds to complete.)
If you feel the problem is a bug connected to your specific platform or the specific type of file you are using while operating under Mavericks, suggest you file a QT Apple Product "Bug" Feedback Report USING THIS FORM.

  • Keyboard shortcuts won't stay deleted! ARGH!!!

I use the keyboard shortcut functions of iOS 8 extensively. I'm in the military and I'm stationed in Hawaii...which means a lot of names of things that the stock keyboard doesn't recognize, and a lot of military acronyms. I have iCloud backup turned on. My wife uses the same iTunes account on her phone.
I have a ton of shortcuts but let's just use a random example. I have a shortcut "un" that shortcuts to my standard forum username Matth3w. She hates this shortcut, so I deleted it and she deleted it off the phones.
IT KEEPS FREAKING REAPPEARING!!! I delete the darned thing once a day and it keeps coming back when I reboot or randomly. I've verified it's off both phones. *** is going on?
Doesn't iCloud and keyboard shortcut syncing work like Dropbox/Google Drive? Where the latest change is the one that is sync'd across all devices??? If I have Drive installed and I delete a file it certainly doesn't put it back on my computer again randomly each day, it DELETES it from the other devices/computers using Drive.
How can I get the shortcuts to sync properly? It does it even if I turn off iCloud backup!!
iOS 8.1 although this has been going on since I can remember. iOS 7 or 8.
I've tried shutting off iCloud, deleting, then signing back in, you name it.

This is stupid to even have to worry about with such an advanced and successful company. The Apple support reps told me to create a new Apple ID in hopes that it would fix it. that's such a stupid response. That's the equivalent of the 1990s "go to MSDOS prompt and type format c:" that you would get from Packard Bell tech support.
What's to say the NEW apple ID wouldn't screw up in a month anyhow?
Seriously Apple, this is amateur hour crap.

  • Keyboard shortcuts don't work in Firefox 9.0.1 on Mac OS 10.7.2

I've just bought a new MacBook Air with Mac OS Lion for the first time. No keyboard shortcuts work in Firefox 9.0.1 with a fresh install. Command-T or W or N or CXZ - none of them do anything. They all flash the appropriate menu bar (so the word File in the menu flashes when I press Cmd-T) but nothing happens.
If I open the menu first and then press the shortcut it works.

If anyone is interested in this on the Firefox team - I found I can make shortcuts work by pressing the Fn key at the same time (so Fn-Cmd-T for a new tab). I tried Beta and Aurora and the same thing occurs on both of those. It's a bit annoying but I guess I'll get used to it.

  • Since I updated to Yosemite, keyboard shortcuts don't work in Safari

I use Yosemite 10.0.2 and Safari shortcuts are unresponsive. What to do?

    Howdy peze,
    Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like there’s an issue with keyboard shortcuts in one specific app, Safari, since upgrading to OS X Yosemite. Take a look at the article linked below which describes a similar issue and walks you through the process of identifying conflicting keyboard shortcuts.

  • "Next" and "previous" keyboard shortcuts don't work

Why won't these keyboard shortcuts work for me? THey're indicated in the drop-down "View" menu as an alternative way of navigating backwards and forwards, but *nothing happens* when I try to use them.
    Why not?

I have nearly the same problem, except that "previous" does work for me, but not next. I checked in the Keyboard preference pane and there do not appear to be any conflicting commands there.
