Keyboard shortcuts forgotten at system restart

Here's a problem that cropped up recently: I use multiple keyboard layouts and need to be able to switch between them on keyboard. By default, the "Select the previous input source" and "Select the next input source in the Input menu" actions are assigned to same key combinations used by "Show Spotlight search field" and "Show Spotlight Window", respectively, so I redefined them to something else (Command+0 and CommandOption0). However, whenever I restart the system, these shortcuts are forgotten. Anyone encountered this before and knows how to fix it? I believe the functionality went broken sometime between 10.4.6 and 10.4.8...

No I did not.  But I assume you are a gnome user.  If you are, any quick search of the forums and you would have found numerous threads all addressing this problem.  If you subscribe to arch-general, you also would have seen this issue arise.

  • Keyboard shortcuts set in System Preferences broken

I have set up a keyboard shortcut in System Preferences to trigger sending mail in the Mail application.
The shortcut works for a short while after the Mail app is launched, but eventually "breaks" so that when I press the key combo (option-command-s) nothing happens.
I have to quit Mail and relaunch it in order to regain the use of this macro.
This seems like a bug to me!
    Can anyone help?
    TIA

    Hi:
I almost fell on the floor!  The chance of two people in these forums living in a town of 2738 is almost off the scale!  I do live in Johnson Creek - if you are so inclined, you will be able to vote for me (or against me) next year .
    Reset the PRAM this way:

Reset the SMC this way:  (it is called a SMU on a G5)

The preference file is located in Macintosh HD>library>preferences.  (sorry, I edited this, my last post was wrong)
OS X rebuilds preference files as needed after a restart.  A corrupted preference file may (rare, but it happens) cause odd behavior.
While we are at it, trash another preference file (com.apple.systempreferences.plist) and restart.
Lest see if any of that helps before we look at the Time Machine issue.

P.S.  Are you really running OS X 10.5.6?  The reason I ask is that I have not run that level of software for a long time.
I need to read profiles more carefully...sorry again

  • Keyboard Shortcut for Sound System Preferences

    Hi everyone -
One of my favorite keyboard shortcuts on the Mac is "option + volume up" (or volume down) keys. This automatically opens system preferences and takes you to the sound preferences. I must use this at least a dozen times a day.
I recently got a new (non Apple) keyboard, and while it does have option and volume keys, the above shortcut does not work. Does anyone know what key commands the computer receives to cause the sound preferences to open?
I like to maybe use one of the softkeys on the keyboard to recreate this shortcut. Thanks! I've called Logitech and opened a case with a product specialist at Apple, but I figured I'd try here too.
    Thanks!

never knew about this shortcut. pretty useful. I also have to access this pane very often to switch between sound output devices. this got very annoying and I found this freeware
    [Sound Source|http://www.rogueamoeba.com/freebies>
try it out. it's even quicker than using your shortcut.

  • Wireless keyboard + Safari + Changing Keyboards shortcuts = ARRRGH

So I was wondering if anyone knew a way to change the shortcuts on the keyboard for Safari, specifically I would like to change the "Command-R" function which reloads the page to "F5". I have gone throught the whole keyboard shortcuts tab in system prefs (System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts) and added the safari menu command and my shortcut I wanted to add yada yada yada and nothing ever works no matter how many times I try or what I change. I am not sure whether or not the fact that I am the Apple Wireless keyboard has anything to do with this but I doubt it does. Any ideas?

    Got it THanks!

  • Keyboard shortcut to open new Tab in Terminal.app

    Hi,
I'm looking for a way to open new tabs with keyboard shortcuts in Terminal.app
Opening the default profile is not a problem (command-T), but how can I get to the non-default profiles? Assigning keyboard shortcuts in the System Preferences doesn't seem to work.
Maybe something like a Quicksilver Trigger? Applescript? Any ideas?
    Thanks,

i'd like to be able to open email messages using a keyboard shortcut. i suspect i'm being thick, but I can't seem to find a way to do that. (i tried the keyboard shortcut function in system preferences, but because there is no "open" menu command, I couldn't create a shortcut.) Much obliged for any help.

    Hi
I had to quit safari & reopen before it worked, but yes, it does work with F5.
Did you choose Safari from the applications list in sys prefs-keyboard & mouse-keyboard shortcuts?
then type Reload Page ( including the capital letters ) ? in the Menu Title box?
    then leave keyboard prefs?
Let us know how you get on

  • Is it possible to assign a keyboard shortcut to a Master Slide?

    Hello,
I have been looking into an approach for assigning a keyboard shortcut to the application of a master slide ("Bullets" for example). I tried the keyboard shortcut assignment in System Preferences, but that did not work. I did a quick Google search to see if Master slides can get applied via apple script and then maybe assign a keyboard shortcut to execute the apple script, but that was not too fruitful.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks!

I too have gone through the Premiere Elements 13 keyboard shortcut and cannot find what you seek for the command Applied Effect and a corresponding keyboard shortcut.
    http://www.atr935.blogspot.com/2014/10/pe-13-keyboard-shortcuts.html
Until proven other, I do not believe what you seek is possible in Premiere Elements with the Project Assets/Edit area monitor/Applied Effect Tab/Applied Effects Palette.
However, there is a possibility for command = Project Assets and a keyboard shortcut to be assigned. Would that work for you? If so, please see Edit Menu/Keyboard Customization/Application/Window and its Project Assets command awaiting a keyboard shortcut.
    Have you considered...
    a. dual monitor system
    b. shrinking Project Assets
Please review and consider and then we can discuss this further if you want.
    Thank you.

  • Safari keyboard shortcut not working

    Hi
Safari keyboard shortcut not working right.
I have 6 website in favourite bookmark. When press cmd + 1 should load 1st website in favourite folder. Nothing happen. Same cmd + 2, cmd + 3 etc.
Now cmd + 1 keep add ':)' smiley text emotion instead.
I have reset keyboard shortcut default in System Preference Keyboard but nothing change.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Privacy tab.
    Click:   Remove All Website Data
    Then delete the cache.
Open a Finder window. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following
    ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.Safari/Cache.db
Click Go then move the Cache.db file to the Trash.
Quit and relaunch Safari to test.

  • How do i change display sleep keyboard shortcut

I know that to sleep display i can use ctrl-shift-eject
this is fine but i would ideally like to change it to a simple bind. like like cmd-§ or some other two button bind. I've check the keyboard shortcut tab in system preferences and i either can't spot it or its not there. Im assuming its because its a default command. Anyone know if there's a way i can add a bind to sleep all displays or a way to edit this one?
    Thanks in advance

    Re: Creating a Keyboard Shortcut

  • How to find what a keyboard shortcut does

It's not just Lion, but still there and annoying. One particular shortcut, ⇧⌘B, does not work in applications such as Xcode (Build Results) or Nisus Writer Pro (Add Bookmark). It seems to me that there is some global shortcut which is blocking this shortcut, but it doesn't appear to do anything. How do I find out what is defining this shortcut? I've looked in the Keyboard Shortcuts section of System Preferences, but don't see anything that defines it. Is there somewhere else I can look?

Useful page, but it doesn't really help. The only occurrence of shift-command-B that I found was in Keynote help, for send to back, but that's another application that it doesn't work in. What I am looking for is a way to find out what has hijacked this keyboard shortcut, apparently globally. Is there some debugging mode to see which application is intercepting it?

  • How can I see all the assigned keyboard shortcuts, including those from my installed add-ons?

I was looking at an add-on screenshot and noticed the invocation of an option is through Ctrl-Shift-H, however it's Ctrl-Shift-K on my system. The add-on has no options (it's the Element Hiding Helper for Adblock Plus) so I can't set that keyboard shortcut. So I am curious as to all the keyboard shortcuts on my system, including which one has Ctrl-Shift-H.

Im sorry to revive this, but i didnt want to create another topic for this.
Anyway, is there a working version of keyconfig for FF4? Firefox 4 is almost released yet this addon isnt working and its a 'key feature' thats missing.

  • Create app which outputs keyboard shortcut

I seem to remember that in earlier versions of OS, you could create an app which would issue a keyboard shortcut to the system. How can we do that in Snow Leopard ??
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Samuel

ok, I finally understand. while it's possible to do it this way with an applescript but it's WAY too convoluted. there are plenty of app launchers that will do this directly. for example I use Butler. http://www.manytricks.com/butler/
it lets you bind keyboard shortcuts directly to any keystroke sequences. I just bound F17 to do command+s. I suggest you go that way. I'm sure there are lots of other app launchers that will do this too: Sprark, Quicksilver, ikeys, quickeys, launchbar, keyboard maestro etc.

  • Keyboard shortcut keys

When I type something on the keyboard it does weird commands When I push the Command, shift, fn, option or control keys, it displays symbols on the screen in the top right corner and makes a cash register type noise? I have to push the key 3 times to make it go away? Is there anyway to shut this off? I'm sure one of my kids must have done some keyboard shortcut.

Look at System Preferences - Accessibility (Universal Access) - Keyboard - Sticky Keys...
I'd uncheck the box to turn it on with 5 presses of the shift key.

  • How do you assign a keyboard shortcut to an Automator workflow?

This has to be an incredibly basic question, but my searches haven't turned up anything.
I created an Automator workflow to "Create new email message".
I'd like to be able to launch this with a keyboard shortcut.
In System Preferences, I can see how to assign keyboard shortcuts to menu items, but can't figure how how/if you can do this for automator shortcuts.
    Thanks.

Found in a thread about Automator elsewhere (https://discussions.apple.com/message/19043068#19043068):
Assign a keyboard shortcut in System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcut -> Services
