Keyboard shortcuts in application don't work

Wondering if any one can help me with this one.
I'm finding that only some of the keyboard shortcuts in Final Cut Pro are working for me. For example "Command/F12" is supposed to give me full-screen view. Instead "F12" continues to function as a sound volume increase button. I've taken this problem to the FCP forum but the best someone there could say was that there seems to be a conflict between my OS and FCP. I've gone to "Systems Preferences/keyboard" and the most I could do there was make sure that Final Cut was a listed application. I see no "yellow triangles" there.
I hope someone can clue me in here. If not my mouse is going to get exhausted flying all over the FC page.

"fn+f12" on it's own didn't help so I went to "System Preference/keyboard" and checked the "use F keys as standard" box as you suggested. Now when I hit "command+F12" (not "commandfnf12) I get the proper FCP response.
Hope this will also have fixed the other FCP shortcuts that were not working.

Keyboard shortcuts in JTabbedPane don't work in BorderLayout

I'm mystified by a problem that doesn't seem to make any sense. I have a JTabbedPane with mnemonics, that used to work well before. But since I've shuffled components around a bit and put the JTabbedPane in the BorderLayout.CENTER of a JPanel, the keyboard shortcuts no longer work.
The appropriate letters are underlined, but the Alt+letter sequence no longer switched tabs. Other components (JButtons) with keyboard shortcuts in the same JPanel, but in the BorderLayout.SOUTH or elsewhere, work as expected.
It sounds like a bug to me, but is there perhaps a workaround?

I keep replying to my own posts...
I figured out that the tabs start working once a component in them (say, a JTextField) receives keyboard focus. It does sound a bit suspicious to me, but I can live with it.
Unfortunately, setting the focus programmatically doesn't seem to work: requestFocus() or requestFocusInWindow() on the first JTestBox simply don't work.

Keyboard and Mouse pad don't work.

Can anyone help me? I figured I should come here before bringing it to a shop.
I have upgarded my ram from 2gigs to 4gigs with Crucial ram.
Though regardless if I have the new ram or old ram in, my keyboard and mouse pad don't work. There were occasions before when the keyboard would lock up for a short while, but I have no idea what's causing this.
My only thought would be that sometimes my computer would get unusually hot, but i just turn it off when that happens.
Everything else works fine, the USB ports work with keyboards and mouse's, the power chord works fine, there seems nothing wrong with the battery or display.

Has your keyboard and mouse quit working altogether or just when the computer is hot? And do I understand that an external keyboard and mouse will work with no problems?
And I am wondering about your computer running unusually hot. Are your fans operating properly? You might want to run the extended version of the Apple Hardware test to be sure that the fans and thermal sensors are working properly. If they are not, you will get one or more error codes.
Another thing to do to check when your Mac is unusually hot is the Activity Monitor. Select "All Processes" at the top right and check for any process running that should not be which is using lots of CPU.
I don't know if the keyboard problem is related to the heat problem or not, but I would want to know what is causing the heat problem too. Over time, excessive heat can cause damage to the logic board. It could also conceivably damage the ribbon cable which connects the keyboard and I would guess that the trackpad could also be affected. So it is important to see what is going on here. If you have been experiencing excessive heat on a regular basis, this might be the underlying cause of your keyboard and trackpad problems. If so, the heat problem will have to be fixed or the other problem will recur over time.
Try the AHT and post back with any results. Also, use iStatPro to check on your fans and make sure both are running at roughly equal speeds and that they run faster when the computer gets hot.

Keyboard Shortcuts for Applications Not Working in S 10-2

I have set a keyboard shortcut : ctrl + Alt + I for Internet Explorer browser by right clicking on its quick launch icon and going into its properties. I have set similar shotcuts to some more applications. But none of them work. i.e., They don't launch the respective apps when clicked. They work perfectly well on my desktop PC. Has anybody else observed this?

I made similar experience.
When I added short cuts to the IE-Symbol on Quickstart or on Startmenu I got no reaction.
But
When I added the short cut to IE-Symbol on Menu "Programs" it worked.

Keyboard shortcuts for text selection not working in Flash CC

In the new Code Editor in Flash CC running on Mac OS X, most standard Keyboard Shortcuts for traversing through the text work as expected (as the Operating System works globally) but there is one that doesn't and it's I think the most important one.
Hitting "OPTION + SHIFT + [right or left arrow keys]" to select words doesn't work. Hitting "OPTION + [right or left arrow keys]" works as expected, moving the cursor to the next word or break point, but adding shift doesn't do the selection.
I don't understand why this changed since it's a basic OS global shortcuts, and every other program behaves the way it should. Flash CS6 running on the same system behaves fine, but Flash CC doesn't. If you have ever written code, you know that any second that a programmers hand doesn't have to leave the keyboard to search for the mouse is invaluable, and this has forced me to stop using Flash CC and use Flash CS6 to edit my Action Script classes becuase it's unusable otherwise.
These shortcuts are also not listed in the keyboard shortcuts for the program, so I can't change the default behavior. Does anybody know if there's a way to set it back to the way it was before, or just disable special text shortcuts so that selecting text behaves like any other application in the operating system?

Amy~ Yep the lasso tool was what I verified with another user. 'L' seems to be bound indefinitely to loop through different types of lasso tools and it was annoying them because they just wanted L to be the regular freehand lasso. I removed 'L' from being an option on the polygon lasso and even set it explicitly to SHIFT+L as well as set the lasso tool to a completely different keyboard combo. 'L' still cycled through lassos haha. It needs some fixes.

Keyboard shortcuts in CS4 won't work! Please help!

In the last month I have lost all of my keyboard shortcuts in my CS4 program. I was using Windows Vista Professional - and installed CS4 in August. Everything was working great. Then last month, all of the shortcuts disappeared. I uninstalled/then reinstalled CS4 - still nothing. Have done that several times, and looked on the forums for similar issues, in the Technotes - nothing. Yesterday my office upgraded my system to Windows 7. I am on a new HP Elitebook - also purchased in August, so my system can handle the program with ease.
Anyway, I had the IT guy do a 'clean install' per most of the chatter online, so i went to install the program and the install came up with 'errors' first was that Adobe 9 was not installed, nor was Photoshop. When i opened up illustrator - poof - no keyboard shortcuts again. Please if anyone knows of something that I could try, I would really appreciate it. This is seriously making me behind in projects and am ready to throw my new computer out the gigantic window that is in front of my desk.
Oh, since this - I updated my graphics driver (per suggestion for Photoshop), unistalled CS4 - AGAIN - and am in the process of reinstalling. But I am pretty sure that the shortcuts will be missing.

Is there a way to customize keyboard shortcuts in applications?

Some applications allow keyboard shortcuts to be customized, usually in preferences, but I'm wondering if there's a way to customize keyboard shortcuts in apps that don't have this feature built in.

Create keyboard shortcuts for apps
Assign your own keyboard shortcuts to menu commands in any OS X app, including Finder. This might be useful if a global shortcut, which works the same with most apps, conflicts with a specific app shortcut. In this case, you could assign a different key combination.
You can only create keyboard shortcuts for existing menu commands. You cannot create keyboard shortcuts for general purpose tasks such as opening an app.
Choose Apple menu > System Preferences, then click Keyboard.
Open Keyboard preferences for me
Click Shortcuts, select App Shortcuts, then click Add (+).
Click the Application pop-up menu, then choose an app. If you want to set the same key combination for a menu command that appears in many apps, choose All Applications.
If the app you want to select doesn’t appear in the list, choose Other, then locate it using the Open dialog. Some apps may not allow you to set keyboard shortcuts.
Type the menu command for which you want to set a keyboard shortcut in the Menu Title field.
You must type the command exactly as it appears in the Application menu, including ellipses and any other punctuation. To type an ellipsis, use three periods without spaces.
Click in the Keyboard Shortcut field, press the key combination that you want to assign to the menu command, then click Add (+).
You can’t use each type of key (for example, a letter key) more than once in a key combination.
Quit and restart any apps you’re using for the new keyboard shortcut to take effect.
If you assign a keyboard shortcut that already exists for another command or another app, your new shortcut won’t work. Find the menu command that’s using it, then reassign the keyboard shortcut for that item.
To remove a customized shortcut, click Delete (–).

Why won't the keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator CC 2014 work in Mac OS 10.9.4?

I have a Mac Pro (Late 2013) with these specs:
Processor 3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5
Memory 64 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics AMD FirePro D700 6144
Software OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
I downloaded the latest Adobe software today so not sure what the issue is.

I have checked the system prefs and there don't seem to be any corresponding keyboard shortcuts to interfere with them. When I choose the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" on the keyboard prefs pane (see below), then the Illustrator shortcuts work, but it disables the basic functions in the Finder and other programs. There is some conflict but I can't figure out the right settings for both Illustrator and the Mac OS to work properly.

Keyboard shortcuts from Tiger/Leopard not working in Snow Leopard

OK, here are two examples: In Mail.app I used to press CMD-option-J to invoke the Delete Junk Mail dialog. Now it doesn't work if I have switched to the English US keyboard input method; any other selection of keyboard input works (I use English US, Greek, Unicode Hex Input and another greek one from vodkatini.gr called "Ελληνικά").
Also, within Graphisoft ArchiCAD 13 I used option-O (that's the letter 'O') to access one command (it's Document>Layout Book>Open assigned Master Layout). This worked up until I switched to Snow Leopard. Now it only works if I have enabled the Unicode Hex Input keyboard input method.
Anyone cares to shed some light? Has something changed in the way keystrokes are interpreted in the new OS?
FWIW, when I go to ArchiCAD's keyboard shortcuts preferences dialog (it's where the user can customize them to their liking), for the first time ever I notice the following: if I try to assign option-O as the shortcut for a command, the field which should confirm visually what I have pressed (and which up until now used to reflect my keystroke by displaying "Option-O" so I can be sure what I am trying to assign to the specific command) now shows "ø". Now, at first it looks like Snow Leopard is interpreting the keystroke as the special 'o' with the diagonal (sorry, don't know what it's called); it's puzzling, though, that it doesn't behave the same way when I press option-E for the keystroke (which should, by analogy, produce the character 'é') and so on.

None of this works for me because, as I'm using SpamSieve, Mail's inbuilt Junk Mail filtering is turned off and I don't have a 'Junk' folder. What is puzzling is that I certainly used this shortcut before (I think to empty the Trash after deleting everything from the 'Spam' folder - which moved it to the Trash) which seems a bit odd. After the upgrade I found this didn't work. Adding a Greek keyboard made no difference.
Perhaps someone who isn't using SpamSieve can try this out.

i bought 3 licences of creative suite cs6, and in every one of them flash cs6 keyboard shortcuts wont work correctly.
specifcly the tools shortcuts such as space bar for hand tool, v' for arrow key and more.
i need to restart flash for them to work again. this happened on 3 of my studio's computers!
please help

Mohanaraj CS, I'm still using Flash Pro CS6 on my MacBook Pro and the shortcuts don't all work correctly because Flash (German version with German language keyboard setting in OSX) seems to use an US keyboard setting only for the shortcuts internally (if I type into fields, I've got my German layout, but if I want to set up a shortcut like cmd + + for zoom in oder cmd + - for zoom out, it shows cmd + ] and cmd + / instead).
And the "fix" to an obvious bug (as you said by yourself) now is TO BUY CC??
Come on, Adobe Staff, is that how you treat your customers?
A little -known- bug but you have to get (and buy) the cloud thing, if you want it fixed... did you get the bug into the code THEREFORE in the last update?
I really love the Adobe software but this is the baddest joke since a looong time, Mohanaraj CS.

Keyboard shortcut for Copies has never worked in print dialog

I don't know if this is the right place to report a bug, but it has always irritated me that the keyboard shortcut ALT-C to move the focus to the Copies field has never worked in the Adobe Reader print dialog. It should work as the underscore exists in "Copies:" I use the shortcut all the time in Office whenever i want to print more than one copy. It would be nice if this would work in Adobe Reader also. It should work as the underscore exists in "Copies:"
