Keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator CS4

I have tried to customise keyboard shortcuts in CS4 but each time I quit I lose all settings. (they work fine til I quit). I have saved new sets, overwritted previous sets but they dont seem to save. What am I doing wrong.
Otherwise, speaking as a recent convert from Freehand, CS4 is wonderful now multiple pages have been added

We are experiencing the same problem in Illustrator CS4. We have saved a custom keyboard shortcut set only to have some of the shortcuts revert back when Illustrator is restarted. We have cleared the shortcut for "Reselect" and assigned command-6 to "Select Same Fill". The shortcut works fine until we quit Illustrator the the shortcut reverts back to "Reselect".

Why won't the keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator CC 2014 work in Mac OS 10.9.4?

I have a Mac Pro (Late 2013) with these specs:
Processor 3 GHz 8-Core Intel Xeon E5
Memory 64 GB 1867 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics AMD FirePro D700 6144
Software OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
I downloaded the latest Adobe software today so not sure what the issue is.

I have checked the system prefs and there don't seem to be any corresponding keyboard shortcuts to interfere with them. When I choose the "Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys" on the keyboard prefs pane (see below), then the Illustrator shortcuts work, but it disables the basic functions in the Finder and other programs. There is some conflict but I can't figure out the right settings for both Illustrator and the Mac OS to work properly.

Import or Move Keyboard Shortcuts Etc. to CS4?

Is there a way to import or move my keyboard shortcuts from CS3 to CS4? What about layout settings etc.?

I have migrated my keyboard settings from PPro2 to CS4 and CS5.
From PPro 2 (XP) to CS4/5 (Win 7 64)
copy file:
C:\Documents and Settings\*yourusername*\Application Data\Adobe\Premiere Pro\2.0\*yourprefs.kys*
to:
C:\Users\*yourusername*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\4.0\*yourprefs.kys*
or
C:\Users\*yourusername*\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Premiere Pro\5.0\*yourprefs.kys*
Run Premiere, select: Edit/Keyboard Customization/ and your key settings
should appear in the Set: dropdown menu.
I have not found a way to migrate layout settings.

No keyboard shortcuts in InDesign CS4

the keyboard shortcuts doesn't shown in any menu.
the "edit>keyboard shortcuts" has no available set, or even not creating new set.
in othyer apps (PS, Illustaror, flash) it's fine.
they are not working obviously, it's not only visual matter.
does anyone know what is wrong and how to fix it?

It sounds like the reinstall is also damaged.
I'd try again after running the cleaner tool: CS Cleaner Tool for installation problems | CCM, CS6, CS5.5, CS5, CS4, CS3
Make sure you are logged in with an adminsitrator account, and turn off you Anti-virus and Malware scanners. You may even want to go as far as a "clean boot" for the installation. See How to perform a clean boot to troubleshoot a problem in Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista

It's in your user folder/Lbrary/Preferences/Adobe Illustrator CS6
The library folder in the user folder is hidden on Mac OS. Search Google on how to show it and thank Apple for this great idea.

Keyboard shortcuts in CS4 won't work! Please help!

In the last month I have lost all of my keyboard shortcuts in my CS4 program. I was using Windows Vista Professional - and installed CS4 in August. Everything was working great. Then last month, all of the shortcuts disappeared. I uninstalled/then reinstalled CS4 - still nothing. Have done that several times, and looked on the forums for similar issues, in the Technotes - nothing. Yesterday my office upgraded my system to Windows 7. I am on a new HP Elitebook - also purchased in August, so my system can handle the program with ease.
Anyway, I had the IT guy do a 'clean install' per most of the chatter online, so i went to install the program and the install came up with 'errors' first was that Adobe 9 was not installed, nor was Photoshop. When i opened up illustrator - poof - no keyboard shortcuts again. Please if anyone knows of something that I could try, I would really appreciate it. This is seriously making me behind in projects and am ready to throw my new computer out the gigantic window that is in front of my desk.
Oh, since this - I updated my graphics driver (per suggestion for Photoshop), unistalled CS4 - AGAIN - and am in the process of reinstalling. But I am pretty sure that the shortcuts will be missing.

Keyboard shortcuts not working in Illustrator CC for Mac

I'm having a lot of problems using keyboard shortcuts in Illustrator CC for Mac. They'll will work intermittently. No keyboard issues anywhere else. Is this a bug, or something I can remedy on my end?

I am having the exact same problem and it is really infuriating at times... I just switched from CS6 where I encountered no such problems.
It seems that it usually happens when I switch to Finder or another application and back (altough it may only be Finder). The Illustrator window is still active because I can see Illustrator reacting when I press only CMD or ALT. However all keyboard shortcuts just stop working, for instance CMD+S, or V or any other toolbar shortcuts. To fix it I have to do a mouse click on a tool or menu command or something, and the shortcuts are back for a while...
I am also running Illustrator v.17.0.0 and OS X 10.8.4 on a macbook Pro connected to a Thunderbolt Display and bluetooth mouse/keyboard.
I sure hope this is picked up by Adobe soon, it is really messing with my workflow!

CS4 Reset View Keyboard Shortcut (ESC key) Not Working

Thanks in advance to anyone who can solve this:
Every keyboard shortcut in Photoshop CS4 works fine for me except one: the keyboard shortcut to reset view after using view rotation (the ESC key). Oddly, the keyboard shortcut does work in CS5 (I installed the demo). I've checked to ensure my keyboard is set to US English, which it is. I've tried resetting the Photoshop settings, and even reinstalling. Nothing. This particular keyboard shortcut doesn't seem to be one that can be changed through the keyboard shortcuts menu, and I have never customized the keyboard shortcuts anyway.
Some more information about my setup -- I'm using an Intuos 4 tablet, and do use the wheel to rotate the view. However, the keyboard shortcut doesn't work when I use the tool with my mouse or the wheel on my tablet, so it seems unlikely this is the issue. Regarding my hardware acceleration, I have a current gen nVidia card with plenty of horsepower, and all other OpenGL enhancements work fine.

Have you ensured that Captivate has been updated with all service releases?
I could be wrong but I seem to recall a service release fixed this issue.

Put convert anchor points options in Keyboard Shortcuts

I have two objects with the exact same border path and multiple types of points within the border. I believe that the only way to covert two corner points (at the exact same location) into smooth points (and thus maintain the exact same path for both) is to use the Control panel method (paste in from Help, below). This requires going clear up to the Control panel. I wish that both of these Control panel options where available under Keystroke Shortcuts. This would allow much faster operation that the long trip for my mouse or pen on my large Wacom board.

To use the anchor point conversion options in the Control panel, only relevant anchor points, not the entire object, should be selected. If you select multiple objects, one of the objects must be only partially selected. When entire objects are selected, the Control panel options change to those that affect the entire object.

The buttons are not recordable.

Unless I'm misunderstanding your description, Illustator's new but lame convert buttons do not really meet your criteria anyway. The Convert to Smooth button does not merge two coincident corner points on the same path into a single smooth point. You still have two points.
If the two coincident points are actually endpoints of two separate paths, CtrlShiftAlt-J will average their positions, join and merge them.
The convert point type commands should be located in proper contextual cursor menus in AI. But AI does not really have proper contextual cursor menus.
AI's confused interface has pretty much run out of practical keyboard shortcuts.
Illustrator's new convert anchorpoint buttons are very lame compared to the features that have long existed in Adobe's other drawing program, FreeHand. The convert to corner button should not retract existing handles. The convert to smooth should not always extend handles. Provision should be made for individual retraction/auto-extension when converting.
We are not seeing Adobe leverage the rights to better functionality it gained when it acquired Macromedia. We are only seeing cheap, piecemeal imitations and lip-service toward the still-superior functionality in the acquired program.

How to change keyboard shortcuts

Hi everyone
can anyone help me to modify the keyboard shortcuts in Indesign CS4. When I create a new set in Edit Menu Keybord shortcuts and try to change Cmd+H to hide frame edges instead of hide indesign its not happening. can anyone tell me what is correct way to change the shortcut.

What's the default for hide edges on Mac? It's Ctrl + H which would in most circumstances lead me to think that it would be Cmd + H on Mac, but I think you are running into a problem with the OS using that key combo and intercepting the keystrokes.
Edit: that should have been Ctrl + H on Windows.

CS4 application focus and keyboard shortcuts

Quick preface: I couldn't find anything on this issue, searching Google and the Adobe forums specifically, so I don't know if it's a general bug in CS4 or if it's specific to the installations we have here at work. Also, this isn't specific to Indesign, but it seems to happen the most with Indesign, and I wasn't sure where else to post.
Basically, Indesign in particular (though this also happens with Photoshop and Illustrator to an extent), seems to lose focus if I've clicked on a palette or if I have an object selected, such that I have to click on a blank area of the document in order to use any keyboard shortcut. For example, if I've just applied a new swatch to an object, and that object is still selected, and I hit CTRL-S to save, nothing happens and I have to click a blank area of the document, and then hit CTRL-S. This may not seem like a big deal, but if I'm going to do that, I might as well click "File" and then "Save." And this seems to happen with every keyboard shortcut I use.
Is there anything in the preferences of the application that may be causing this, or is it just an annoying bug, or am I the only one? Any help is greatly appreciated.
[edit] And I'm using WinXP Pro, SP3 on an Intel Core2Duo.

Illustrator CS4 Keyboard Input HELP

Hello, I have searched these forums (as well as the interwebs) up, down, left, and right so I apologize if this has been brought up before.
This problem began shortly after upgrading to CS4 so it never occurred in CS3.
Anytime illustrator is opened, shortly after I lose almost all function of the keyboard. This not only applies to illustrator but also any other programs open at the time (exe: firefox, skype). I can only input ONE character, then, the keyboard basically becomes useless, unless i click in the window somewhere which then permits me again, only ONE character input.
This has rendered my shortcuts in illustrator, any numeric entries, and any control+keys useless. The only fix, is closing illustrator, reopening, and using again for 5-10mins before the keyboard fails again.
If i jump into another program (with illustrator open), like firefox for instance and try to start typing a URL, the first letter i type works fine, but each subsequent letter i type in simply replaces the first one (the letter highlights itself like if i clicked and dragged over the letter, then the new letter just replaces that).
Another issue with the keyboard, is that sometimes when i start to enter characters, it will jump to another program I have open, for instance, illustrator, firefox, and skype are open. Start to type in the skype chat box, and all of a sudden firefox jumps to the front.
Also, if open up CS3 illustrator, that same problem now occurs, however it never occurred prior to CS4.

I had a similar problem with my mouse until I replaced it. There was something awry with the cable connecting the mouse to the computer. Since you say you have replicated the problem across various OS's and various keyboards, not sure where to direct you other than your computer manufacturer. It can't be a CS4 issue because you're experiencing the same problem with Firefox and Skype, right?
