Keyboard shortcuts in Safari??

Ok, so I am a recent convert form the PC world. I have to admit though one of my favorite things about Microsoft's IE was in the address bar you could type the center of a website in and by pressing control+Enter it would add the "www." and the ".com" for you. Now I know that there has to be some similar keyboard shortcut for mac's but i sure cant find it. Any help?? I have both Safari and Mozilla Firefox.
Love the mac much more than my old PC, but geesh, sure do miss my old shortcuts.

No keyboard shortcut needed for this. Simply type the center of the url and hit return. Safari will add the www. and .com on its own.

  • Keyboard shortcuts hangs Safari forms in ios8

On my iPhone 6 iOS 8, whenever a keyboard shortcut is activated while I type in a form field (e.g filling in an address), Safari hangs and freezes!
I have to manually quit Safari and then it will have problems restarting for a few seconds.
    Every single time!

    HI,
Has anyone actually found a solution for this problem that doesn't involve manually deleting my hundreds of shortcuts and re installing them? This is absolutely ridiculous! Apple seem to be going backwards instead of forwards and it seems like they release the updates just for the sake of doing it, rather than when they are actually fully tested and working and stable! Personally, I would rather they release a downgrade to a previous iOS that actually works perfectly and then only release the next update when it has been FULLY tested and found to be problem free, even if this takes over a year! I am sick to death of having to wipe my iPhone and restore (64Gb) every couple of weeks when the latest update bug hits it!!! I only just restored my phone today because the wifi decided to disable itself and NONE of the apple approved solutions worked! I spend most of my week trying to get my iPhone to work properly nowadays, until I get fed up and throw it away for good!

  • Is there a list of Keyboard Shortcuts for Safari 3.0.4?

I found the article "Safari: Browser Window and Menu Shortcuts"
Last Modified on: July 20, 2007 Article: 42951
It says that Command-T is Show/Hide Address Toolbar. But in Safari 3.0.4 Command-T opens a new tab. So this list has not been updated for Safari 3.

    Hi Alan,
I don't know of any official documentation for the Debug menu, I'm sorry. I get the impression that Apple meant for the menu items to be self-explanatory to would-be developers. Personally, I've only meddled with the User Agent, Show Caches Window and toggling of RSS Support and Back/Forward Cache. I doubt typical end-users like us would require much more than that. Sorry, I hope that helps.

  • Change keyboard shortcuts

    Hello,
Is it possible to change the keyboard shortcuts in Safari? In particular, I would like to change the keys and number of strokes used to switch tabs.
    Thank you, Kevin

    Hi Yang,
Thanks for the response. I think I correctly followed your instructions, but the new commands don't work. Safari is now listed under Application Keyboard Shortcuts, and the new commands and shortcuts are there, but they don't work in the application. I also added the same shortcuts in NetNewsWire, but they don't work there either. I looked in ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.Safari.plist for the new commands, and they aren't there. The new shortcuts I added were to change tabs using the command and lateral arrow keys, without using the shift key.
    Thank you, Kevin

  • What is the keyboard shortcut for scrolling page down? In Pages, Safari, etc... Just a single page/ screen view, not all the way to the bottom.  Thank you.

Trying to navigate the screen without my mousepad.  I have carpal tunnel and early stage arthritis and cannot repeatedly make the appropriate motions to scroll with two fingers.  Is there a keyboard shortcut for scrolling up and down line by line or page by page?
    Thank you.

Yeah. sorry. those are not correct. ctrl N + P are for home and end line shortcuts. Ctrl V does go down one line.  But CTRL arrow up or down do not work in Safari.  But thank you very much for the attention and the time...
Note from my first post above -- I did not say to use CTRL arrow in Safari:
    For Safari:
Scroll down a line: down arrow
Scroll down a screen: option down arrow
Note from my second post above and from the first link I gave that  Control N, P, and V worked for me in Pages as described in the link and in my post:
The link to shortcuts that I gave abaove includes Control N, P, and V for move down a line, up a line and down a page and those seem to work in Pages.

  • Google Search Keyboard Shortcut Missing in Safari

I've noticed that the keyboard shortcut for "search with Google" keyboard shortcut (command+shift+L) has been replaced by opening the new Reading List drawer.  The shortcut still works in other cocoa apps, but has been superceeded by the new reading list shortcut in Safari (similar to how it's superceeded by flag email in Mail).
Is there anyway to change the shortcut for opening the Reading List drawer so that I can have search with Google back to command+shift+L on Safari.
I've grown quite used to using this shortcut and it's much less enjoable to command+option+f over to the search window and paste in the phrase I want googled, than it was having a single shortcut.
    Thanks to anyone who knows.

Similar problem I've found but fixed. I have a broken arm and it's difficult to hold down cmd and click or do the shortcut (which doesn't work anymore), so I found a workaround based on http://rentzsch.tumblr.com/post/5794765921/search-with-google-using-chrome
It will take less than a minute to implement.
Open Automater -> Choose Service -> Find 'Run Shell Script' action and drag to workflow window -> Choose '/usr/bin/ruby' from Shell drop down menu -> type the following
    require 'cgi'
    `open 'http://www.google.com/search?q=#{CGI.escape(STDIN.read.chomp)}'`
Then save it with a title like "Search With Google (New Window)" and you are done. Then rather than using the shortcut, just right click the highlighted text you want to search and you can use this new service.

  • Safari's "Email this page" keyboard shortcut opens second Mail.app

    Hello,
First of all, neither the Safari toolbar button nor the File > Share > Email this page work at all. Both do nothing. Quitting Safari & Mail has no effect.
    HOWEVER
The keyboard shortcut (command + shift + I) does work, but it opens another instance of Mail.app. There is only one version on my mac.
Any thoughts on that? I can't seem to find anybody else with such wierd behavior.

    Try resetting the LaunchServices database.
Back up all data if you haven’t already done so. Before proceeding, you must be sure you can restore your system to the state it’s in now.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the page that opens.
Copy or drag — don't type — the text below into the Terminal window:
    /System/Library/Frameworks/CoreServices.framework/Versions/A/Frameworks/LaunchServices.framework/Versions/A/Support/lsregister -kill -r -domain user
That's all one line, though it will scroll on this page. Triple-click anywhere in the text to select it all.
Press return. Log out, then log back in.

  • Why is the keyboard shortcut for 'Select next input source' disabled when using Safari?

I'm using Safari 6.0.5 and am running 10.8.4 on a MacBook Pro 13" from last year.
I've been using Chrome and Firefox heavily recently, but switched to Safari to give it a chance. It's really nice and lightweight, which suits me.
However, for some reason unbeknownst to me, the keyboard shortcut 'Select next input source' is disabled in Safari, in all windows/input methods.
Since I constantly switch input methods, this is incredibly frustrating.
It persists after quit + restart.
    Any ideas?

Yes, just Safari. In Chrome, Firefox and all other applications it works as expected.

  • Wireless keyboard + Safari + Changing Keyboards shortcuts = ARRRGH

So I was wondering if anyone knew a way to change the shortcuts on the keyboard for Safari, specifically I would like to change the "Command-R" function which reloads the page to "F5". I have gone throught the whole keyboard shortcuts tab in system prefs (System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts) and added the safari menu command and my shortcut I wanted to add yada yada yada and nothing ever works no matter how many times I try or what I change. I am not sure whether or not the fact that I am the Apple Wireless keyboard has anything to do with this but I doubt it does. Any ideas?

    Got it THanks!

    Hi
I had to quit safari & reopen before it worked, but yes, it does work with F5.
Did you choose Safari from the applications list in sys prefs-keyboard & mouse-keyboard shortcuts?
then type Reload Page ( including the capital letters ) ? in the Menu Title box?
    then leave keyboard prefs?
Let us know how you get on

  • How do I get Safari to recognize changed keyboard shortcuts?

I am trying to setup a simple, memorable keyboard shortcut for switching between tabs (a useful feature that I wish Safari made easier).  I wanted to do option+arrow key.  So I sent to System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts and created the shortcut.
The new shortcut shows up in Safari when I drop down the Window menu, but the shortcut doesn't actually work.  When I hit option+L or R arrow key, the window does not switch to the next or previous tab.
I even went back to Keyboard Shorcuts in System Preferences and created another "All Applications" shortcut with the same command.  It still doesn't work.
Any thoughts?  Has anyone successfully changed the "Select Next Tab" or "Select Previous Tab" commands in Safari?
    Thanks!

some shortcuts just don't work in some apps, and safari won't allow arrow keys with a single modifier (these shortcuts do other things in text fields).  it's best to pick something memorable but unique to avoid any conflicts.

  • How: create keyboard shortcuts in Lion-Safari and Preview

I've been trying to create a keyboard shortcut for Preview (and perhaps it would work in Safari) so that when I click command and arrow up, the cursor will jump to the top of the document. For example, I'm reading on page 450 of a pdf file and want to go back to the top I'd have to grab the tiny, tiny doodah on the right side of the page and drag it all the way up. In Windows (I do have two Macs and two Windows PCs) you click on control-up arrow and it happens. I tried to modify the keyboard shortcuts in Lion and it does let me do it, but it doesn't work.
I click on System Preferences, Keyboard, Keyboard Shortcuts, Application Shortcuts. It gives me a choice to add a shortcut by clicking on the plus sign, then I I select Preview and it gives me the choice to write the Menu Title (this is probably the problem) and I write gototop (go to the top of document) and then on Keyboard Shortcut I press command and the up arrow. But it doesn't work. Where do I find the Menu Titles for all programs?
    Thank you.
    Roxy

    Glad it helped.
There is a page on the Apple site that has all the keyboard shortcuts grouped by function/application.
Don;t have the URL in front of me now but if you poke around you should find it. There are a lot of nice features in there (like these) and is worth looking at.

  • What is the safari keyboard shortcut for "show/hide address bar"?

I have been unable to identify the second of the two keys for the "show/hide address bar" shortcut in Safari.
It shows the command key and then a verticle line which I can not find on my keyboard. I tried i, l, and
1, but its none of those.
That would be a handy shortcut for me, but it seems to use a key I don't have!

It's ShiftCommand\ in U.S. and Canadian English. If you look at the backslash key in those layouts, there's a vertical bar above it.

  • In Safari is there a Keyboard shortcut for Merge All Windows?

Majority of sites sill open new pages in new windows, not new tabs. So, I keep using the Merge All Windows feature all the time. Please, provide a keyboard shortcut for this!

Although there is no default keyboard shortcut for the menu item in question, there is nothing preventing you from creating your own.
Under System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts, press the "+" sign. From the Application drop-down menu, choose Safari. In the Menu Title field enter "Merge All Windows" -- without the quotes. In the Keyboard Shortcut field, enter your desired key combo and then click the Add button.
You'll need to quit System Preferences and restart Safari for the change to take effect. Good luck.
