Keyboard Shortcuts Incomplete Functionality

Keyboard Shortcuts Incomplete Functionality
Bug in the software.  In PS CS6, when using the keys to access different tool
they would cycle through the key accessed.  Example:  If you were in the
eraser and then hit the B key you would get the brush.  You could hit the B key
again and get one of the other brushes listed.  I used this feature to program
my grip pen to move between the brush and the mixer brush just by using the B key.
In PSCC you can hit the B key from another tool and get whatever brush you
accessed last BUT when you hit the B key again it DOES NOT cycle through.
Therefore the keys programed in preferences do not go beyond one stroke of any
key when it should be able to change for four tools.  It is a major loss of functionality
of the tools.   The brush tool is not the only tool that has that problem.
Is this in the works to be fixed?  Or is there another solution?
Thank you.

Hi Sean,
If I'm not mistaken, Version 3.5.6907.233 is the latest stable release of Communicator 2007 R2. Please correct me if I'm wrong and I will work with the relevant people to have a newer release of the application installed (if possible).
As for the Uninstallation of McAfee, this is a highly unlikely troubleshooting method as any IT Administrator allowing a corporate computer running without any sort of security software on a corporate network will most likely lose their job and face severe
repercussions. I would understand if this was for home use but this is not. Additionally, I would imagine that if this was a Known Issue with Microsoft, there would be a more indepth KB article pointing to McAfee as the culprit.
Can you clarify if any of the work we're doing on this has any relation with Microsoft or if this is just best effort support?
Thanks in advance,
-William

  • Keyboard shortcuts for functions inside paragraph styles panel possible?

I would like to assign keyboard shortcuts for functions inide the paragraph styles panel in PS CS6.
It seems that no option to do this  is exposed - ist this correct?

That's an interesting approach and it made me aware about menu item insertation - but unfortunately none of the suggested works.
Clear overrides when executed by button can work both on selections of text and on complete text blocks, the recorded version of
pressing the button disregards that there's a selection and therefore only works globally. The menu insertation method can not deal
with existing selections either - it's entry is greyed out in the actions panel when portions of the text are selected.

  • Standard Macbook Keyboard Shortcuts Not Functioning

    I have a Macbook running 10.5.7.
For some time, I have been unable to use any standard keyboard shortcuts such as CMD-N to open a new finder window etc.
I have re-installed the MAC OS X software from clean, reset the defaults for keyboard shortcuts in System Preferences but nothing works. I don't believe it's the keyboard as I have tried holding the option key while booting and do get the screen offering which drive to boot from.
Every now and then, following a "Restore Defaults" in keyboard shortcuts, they will function but following a re-start, they are no-go again.
This applies to all shortcuts such as CMD-SHIFT-4 to grab a screen shot. Simply no keyboard shortcuts work at all.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

I don't have an answer, but I just experienced the same problem. Suddenly my copy/paste shortcut doesn't work. I hope someone provides an answer soon!

  • Why have keyboard shortcuts quit functioning - quit, copy, paste, new, hide

I all of a sudden have lost the use of most all of my keyboard shortcuts that I am sooooooooo accustomed to. The apple key shortcuts mostly will not work - occassionally some work, but the problem occurs in the finder as well as applications like work xL photoshop firefox etc etc. I have logged out and logged in as a different user but the problem persists - driving me crazy - when i go to keyboard shortcuts in system preferences it shows no shortcuts under application shortcuts/all applications. Have i done something drastically wrong? Can the shortcuts be restored? Help Please email me directly at gerard @ tetonartgallery.com if you care.

I changed the key repeat rate to slow and turned off the delay until repeat and the problem seems to be fixed. As i thought about what had changed when the problem began one thing was changing those keyboard preferences. I think i will be able to live with what i have -- THNAK YOU my typing skills suck, but the keyboard appears to be respojnding --- will i eventually have to replace this board or may it keep on KEEPING on? THANK YOU THANK YOU _ it is great to have people out there to bounce problems off of.

  • Documents To Go support for Palm Portable Keyboard Shortcuts

I’m using a Palm Tungsten E along with a Palm Wireless Keyboard (IR).
When using an application such as Memos, all the usual Palm Portable Keyboard Shortcuts (cursor movements, etc.) are supported.
When using DataViz Word To Go (Ver. 6.008 (761)), however, none of the usual keyboard shortcuts will function, making document editing (especially corrections and revisions) a total nightmare.
Has anyone else encountered this issue and, if so, how do I resolve it?

Their support model (unless you're prepared to fork out more money, I suppose) consists entirely of searching their inadequate knowledgebase; this contain only help articles, not bug reports along these lines.
I've always (and still) thought that the Dataviz knowledgebase was pretty good, and I have almost always found answers to my questions there.
Did you come across this article in your search, which solved the problem I was having with my Palm Universal Wireless Keyboard?  It's a simple matter of disabling the Active Text Field feature.

  • Contextual Keyboard Shortcuts

    Hi,
Does anyone else find the long-awaited reintroduction of keyboard shortcuts incomplete? In particular, there is a lack of contextual keyboard shortcuts. For example, you can now delete a message in the Hub by selecting the Delete button, but the subsequent confirmation prompt (see photo) doesn't accept any keyboard shortcuts (D for delete; C for cancel). This seriously hinders the usefulness of keyboard shortcuts as one still needs to tap the screen to complete the action.
I know that one can disable the confirmation prompt altogether, but what if I do want it? On BB OS 7, I would just hit Del+D and have my message promptly deleted. So quick and easy.

  • How to define a keyboard shortcut that includes a function key?

I was trying to set up a keyboard shortcut for a Service in Sys.Prefs -> Keyboard -> Keyboard Shortcuts and discovered that if I attempt to use a function key as a part of the shortcut that it disappears out of the key entry field as soon I click off the item. The keys I press (including an "F#" representing the function key that I've pressed) show up briefly in the field but then go away.
Entering keystrokes that do not include a function key seem to work fine.
Function keys are used as a part of many of the default keyboard shortcuts. So is there maybe a trick for entering a function key in the pref pane as part of a user defined shortcut that I just don't know about? Or is this maybe a bug in the pref pane? Or any other explanation for what I'm seeing?
This is on a Snow Leopard 10.6.3 machine.
    Thanks,
    Steve

Function keys are regular keystrokes, just like for letters, numbers, or punctuation marks. Thus, just like the others, you can use them only by themselves or in combination with modifier keys (shift, command, control, & option) in keyboard shortcuts.
IOW, a valid shortcut would be F4 or command + F4 but not F4 + any regular key.
It's good to know that regular keys are not allowed with function keys, but it doesn't explain the problem. I initially tried using command + various function keys and when that wouldn't "stick" I tried just various function keys which also wouldn't work.
And like I said... it looks like it's going to accept the key(s) I press by showing the textual representation of the key in the key field (such as "F4" or "F5") but as soon as I click outside the text field it vanishes.
The problem was mentioned to me by another person and I was able to duplicate it, so it's not just me or my machine. Just out of curiosity, does it work for you?

  • How Many Functions And Keyboard Shortcuts etc. Are Missing From FCE 4 ?

Seven hours ago I set out to discover the answer to this but I got side-tracked and discovered my camera had a microphone channel missing !
So is there anything missing from FCE4 ?
There have been spurious claims that things like "Export to Soundtrack" have been dropped and though the actual command has disappeared the functionality is there in "Export to QuickTime".
However, I seem to remember Tom saying that a certain keyboard shortcut (which I can't remember) is missing.
Has anyone noticed any particular items that really have been omitted ? (Don't say Soundtrack or 9GB of LT Media!)

    Hi Ian,
just to confirm that what you and Tom have found is the same I have so far.
A comment: while all other commands now missing in the FCE4 contextual menu are available in its standard menus, the Clip Enable command is really a ghost command. Only the control-B keyboard shortcut toggles it, there is no mention of it in any menu, but it appears in Tools/Button List. The online Help mentions a Modify/Clip Enable commands that does not actually exist, but on the other hand it does not mention its keyboard shortcut that in fact works... very clear!

  • How to see the keyboard shortcuts in pages like " alt " function in word?

how to see the keyboard shortcuts in pages like " alt " function in word?

In word , if you press "alt" show you all the options you have . Appear numbers or letters  in each options of the toolbar. So is more easy to work with the keyboard. How do you do this in pages?
Go to system preferences/language & text/input sources and check the box for Keyboard Viewer.  Then select Keyboard Viewer from the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen.  It will show all the special characters you can make when you press the alt and alt + shift keys.

  • Keyboard Shortcut won't allow a function key

I'm in System Preferences>Keyboard>Keyboard Shortcuts. I'm trying to set F8 as a shortcut to open Yojimbo. It should be the default set by the application but it doesn't work.
Keyboard shortcuts does nothing when I press F8. It only allows me to use something like Command-Y. I would much prefer the one finger F8. How can I do this?
Even when I set a shortcut in System Preferences, it doesn't work.

For the function keys thing, see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3399
IIRC, you have to log out and back in or restart to get the changes to take affect.

  • Assign Keyboard Shortcut to Various Align Functions

What's the process of creating a keyboard shortcut to the various align functions?
In prev vers AI allowed me to assign shortcuts to each of the below.

i don't remember previous versions allowing for this. what version was that?
you currently can't assign shortcuts to those directly. my workaround was to save actions for each one and assign shortcuts to the actions (you can only assign function keys via  the actions menu). it's not ideal but that's what i use.
you can also replicate the same functions with scripts and assign shortcuts to those scripts via fastscripts or sparks or other similar program. sparks is free.
    hope that helps.

  • Function keys, Volume & Keyboard shortcuts make me sad

As with many of you, I've just upgraded to 10.5, and I'm having infinite problems with volume control.
I'm using one of the new slim apple keyboards (and oh its fine, but besides..) and the volume control is on the F key row at the top (as opposed to over the num pad, and yes I've attempted to just use the buttons above the num pad, but alas, nothing).
The problem I'm having is that I can either have keyboard volume control, OR I can use the other F keys for various other functions and bindings, but not both.
The option for this is (as expected) under *Keyboard & Mouse, Use all F1, F2, etc. keys as standard function keys*
All I want is volume control and the ability to use the other keys for other applications, even if I had to install a program of some description in order to have this work
The alternative is to find out how to set it up as an actual keyboard shortcuts through *Keyboard & Mouse, Keyboard Shortcuts*, but as volume control has no text, it becomes rather difficult to say what menu title it is.

I have the keyboard hooked up to a MacBook Pro under 10.4.10. Now I can't use the function keys in combination with shift. For instance in Photoshop, the command fill with forground colour (=shift + F5) is not working. How can I fix this?

  • Converting Mac keyboard shortcuts to Windows/PC based shortcuts.

    Hello,
Let me say, I have been using Mac based platforms since close to 1991 on and off. I used System 7 (and OS 8/9, but close enough to System 7) for many years up until I started to use Windows starting on the later 9x and XP platforms. As I start to drift away from Windows to more likely use Macs, however I would like to have a consistent keyboard shortcut system similar to Windows or Linux/UNIX (for that matter).
I actually get confused very easily switching from Macs and Windows with keyboard commands often when I use Windows comp and when I am using the Mac. (Just switching from different kinds of keyboards confuse me from the razor thin keys to a regular keyboard, because going from another one confuses me because of different pressures to press the on.)
I also believe this may have to do with a "workflow" process/scripting, if I am not mistaken. Is there a script I can download, that has close to the standard Windows/PC commands that I can import into the Mac, and can these scripts be edited to adapt my own commands as well? Is there a way to use most of the function keys (F1-12) for the standard commands for the different purposes? I also would like the Option (alt)-Tab to cycle the different apps and Option-Esc to cycle all windows opened. I would like to try to reduce all Option/Command/Control/Shift commands to just a couple of keystrokes or an F key. These modifier keys I think are becoming old, especially since it doesn't meet Apple's simplicity, giving there is up to three keystrokes to press at a given time for some commands.
I had tried the way on the System Preferences, but it doesn't go globally through all applications - real problem lies on the Apple apps on some. I strongly believe this is possible to do, since it might be able to work via a scripting system. I hope this could work. Apple has come a long way to open up the system's architecture without really messing things up, or just opening up the OS without hex apps is great. I hope they can just keep this up so the users can decide how they want their mac to work, because they know what's right for their purposes.
    Thanks in advance,
    Steven

You may like youpi key. It is free. It works fairly well for me in MAC OS 10.4 although not officially supported. There is a commercial version you can buy, called iKey.

Here is my script for listing my application folder. I have it assigned to function-key 6.
    tell application "Finder"
    activate
    select window of desktop
make new Finder window to startup disk
    select Finder window 1
set target of Finder window 1 to folder "Applications" of startup disk
    select Finder window 1
    set position of Finder window 1 to {60, 45}
    end tell
This script was automatically generated in script editor record mode. After I recorded the script and did some minor editing, I copy the script to youpi key.
I have all of my frequently used applications set to function keys. I am thinking of changing the switching to Scripts because there seems to be a side effect to some of the switching like the speaking.
