Keyboard shortcuts return to default

I am trying to set my shortcuts so when I hit F11, I get the dashboard, f12 for all windows. But when I restart my machine, it resets those commands to the default setting. Why is it resetting like this only on these commands? Other shortcuts I've set up for applications are not reset.

You can set keyboard shortcuts for dashboard in preferences > dashboard & expose
Shortcuts can also be set in Preferences > mouse & keyboard > keyboard shortcuts

  • CS3 Bridge - Filter keyboard shortcuts on in Default Workspace?

Here's a annoying differences I notice between CS2 & CS3 Bridge, or am I missing something related to Filter keyboard shortcuts in CS3 Bridge?
I'm used to using keyboard shortcuts to filter the Bridge Contents window, i.e. pressing Command+Option+1 to show just 1-star rated files. But this kind of keyboard shortcut only works when the Filter tab is visible, as in the Default Workspace view. If I in the Thumbnail workspace view none of the filter keyboard shortcuts have any effect. Must the Filter palette be visible for the shortcuts to work or am I doing something wrong?
    TIA!

hi- thank you to both of you. the question is answered but i dont know what the etiquette of awarding the 'question solved' points is here. Because the question had two parts, Malcolm Rayfield answered both parts, but A.Carlo also kindly answered the second part, so i don't know how to give the points without excluding A.Carlo. but i guess if i can only give the points to one person, it should be Malcolm, since he answered both?

  • Cannot keyboard shortcut "return" key

I am trying to create a keyboard shortcut for the "return" key, I like to use it to "Go to sequence start"
Every time i press "return" when selecting a key to choose it just removes the window.
    Any ideas?

you do not need to press return to have it accept the new key. click on the current keyboard shortcut you want to replace until it has a blue underline and then press the new key you want to assign. the new keyboard shortcut should appear and the blue underline should be gone. thats it, just click ok to accept it.  i am able to assign the enter/return key to "go to sequence start" this way.  you may get warnings if that keyboard shortcut is being used by another function, you can use the undo button if you change your mind about the new shortcut key, and keep the previous setting.  or ignore the warning and hit ok to remove the keyboard shortcut from its old/previous assignment and keep the new setting.

  • Keyboard Shortcut not working

I turn on my iBook one day and the Command/Apple + T keyboard shortcut doesn't work. The t button works fine, but in every application, this shortcut is broken. All of the other shortcuts work, but in Photoshop, iMovie, and multiple web browsers, this one deosn't work. What is going on and how do I fix it?

    Hi,
    Comand T in...
iMovie --> Split Clip at Playhead
Adobe --> Free Transform (Command/Ctrl-T) a selection from its center by pressing Option/Alt while dragging a Transform box handle.
I don't know multiple web browsers. You may want to go to System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Keyboard Shortcuts > Restore to Default. See if that helps.

  • Crash on Overwrite/Insert from Keyboard Shortcut (LinkContainer.cpp)

Editing a project I've had for a while when I started getting this error (LinkContainer.cpp). It happened when I would hit overwrite or insert from the keyboard only. My keyboard is customized, with overwrite and insert on V and B.
I resolved the issue by resetting the keyboard shortcuts to their default settings.
Things I did that didn't work:
    Trash prefs
    Clear media cache
    Import project into new project
Things I did that worked but are blah:
    Import sequence into new project
It would also function as expected for a few edits after a full system restart, then the error would persist.
Brand new project and importing media and starting over also appeared to work, but who wants to do that?
The crash wasn't like a complete and sudden shut down. This error would pop up, and Premiere would tell me it'd attempt to save my work. And it did always save my project with the most recent changes as a copy, then reopen that copy right where it left off.
I'm in Premiere 6.0.2 on a MacBook Pro running 10.7.5, 8GB of RAM if it matters.
So the current project works if I keep the default shortcut to finish it, and new projects seem to work but I haven't done extensive editing in them. It sucks to get stuck on default shortcuts suddenly in a pinch, so I'm wondering what's going on so I can fix or avoid it in the future.

Hitting that same error on a new project. There are several things in common between the two projects: Both use 5D media, both were synced using PluralEyes 3 with an XML import, both crash when using an insert or overwrite keyboard shortcut. Any word on this?

  • All Keyboard shortcuts in using JDEV

    Hi,
I didnot find any document on Internet that contains all the keyboard shortcuts using JDeveloper.
Some of them can be seen in the JDev menu's themself but not all, like "the keyboard shortcut for matching flower braces".
So, please, if somebody have compiled them, please send me or post it here.
    Thanks,

    Hi,
in JDeveloper, go to Tools--> Preferences-->Accelerators for a list of commands and associated keyboard shortcuts. Note that not all commands have keyboard shortcuts defined by default, but you can assign new ones.

  • What is the native "Command   Return" keyboard shortcut?

I need to use the "enter data into multiple fields" function of Microsoft Excel 2008. I'm running Mavericks on a 2010 macbook pro 15 in. I really need to use the "Enter same data in multiple cells" function and do not know how to do it manually. My textbook only shows this shortcut. The shortcut, as of right now, just tabs down the selected cells, as if I'm just pressing enter. I've tried all combinations of function, control, command, shift and enter and none have worked. If I go to keyboard shortcuts in excel > tools > customize keyboard and enter the "command + return" shortcut it says "currently assigned to: a built-in keyboard shortcut". I've gone through the system preferences > keyboard > shortcuts and it is not listed anywhere in there. The shortcut itself has no functionality anywhere when tried in other windows/applications. Super frustrating as it seems like it would be easily fixable. I've tried the drag function and it results in a (null) response. So my assumption, after doing some digging online, is that the "command + return" shortcut is dedicated to some other function. I cannot figure out what its assigned to by default. Any clarification is greatly appreciated!

You might find better documentation on the HP8508A command structure in the instrument's manual or from HP/Agilent directly.

  • Keyboard shortcuts defaults after reboot

I have changed some of the system keyboard shortcuts, but after a reboot they go back to their default setting.
I'm suspecting that I have a corrupted preference file or something, since I have also experienced some strange crashes.
Is there a program that can "clean" the preference folder or where do I find the plist that contains keyboard shortcuts?
    Thanks!

If your preferences are not sticking, you could well have a permissions problem. But, note that "Repair Permissions" does not look at anything in your Home folder.
Open the Terminal (from /Applications/Utilities) and copy and paste the following into the Terminal window, one line at a time, with a return after each line:
    ls -ld ~/Library/Preferences/
    ls -l ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences.plist
Copy and paste the result from the Terminal window to a post here.
Also, we might as well see the current settings, so copy and paste again:
    defaults read ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systempreferences com.apple.preference.keyboard.configkeys.trianglestate
    Post that output as well.

    rajlego,
in the Keyboard pane of System Preferences, select the Shortcuts tab, and then select Mission Control on the left-hand side. On the right-hand side, make sure that the Mission Control checkbox is checked, double-click on its current key combination (by default “^↑”) so that the key combination is highlighted, and then press the F3 button — that will set its shortcut to be F3. You can now press F3 to bring up Mission Control without needing to also press the Fn button.

  • New keyboard shortcut didn't work; neither did resetting default

I wanted to create a new keyboard shortcut for sending mail, so I used the system prefs pane like the help file said (new application shortcut, select mail, etc). After creating my new shortcut (^X), it initially didn't appear in the Message menu for Mail. I quit Mail and restarted, and voila - but hitting ^X didn't send my message. That's annoying.
So I figured I'd set the shortcut back, and hit the Restore Default button in the keyboard shortcuts preferences. The listing for the shortcut I created disappeared from the menu, but even after quitting Mail several times, and restarting the machine, Menu - Send still lists ^X as its shortcut. Which would be fine with me, but it still doesn't send my message when I hit ^X.
My shortcut doesn't work, and resetting the defaults doesn't seem to be resetting what Mail thinks the shortcut is. Any thoughts? I'm on OSX 10.4.7, Mail is 2.1.

lucke wrote:Perhaps you did some bad things to your grub config while playing with the new kernel?
No, I did the changes temporarily, but none perminant.
    lucke wrote:Tried booting with kernel26-fallback.img?
Not yet, I think I will do that tomarrow.
lucke wrote:How did you play with the new kernel? Using ABS or using classic "make menuconfig && make && make install"? How did the recompilation fail?
I used the wiki to compile it with ABS. It failed because I forgot to set it to be able to read EXT partitions, which it is located on.

  • InDesignCC Keyboard shortcuts, both default and customized, don't work, or work sporadically

It seems like I'm not the only person having these problems, but I thought it was worthwhile to share my experience to see how many others are having the same issues.
I have several customized quick keys set up in InDesignCC, along with the default keyset. Some appear to work more or less correctly, some--a good example is "Links/Edit Original", which I attempt to use fairly regularly--don't work at all. Even a default quick key like Save As (cmd + shift + S) doesn't work. All that happens when I try to save as, is the word InDesign in the menu bar flashes every time I hit the key combination. Weirder still, if I put my cursor in the menu, and show the file drop down, and THEN try the quick key, it works just fine. I haven't made any system changes or updates, and this is something that's only a problem with InDesignCC (though I have had some similar issues with IllustratorCC), all my CS6 applications work fine. I've even looked through my keyset to make sure that there weren't any conflicts that I was missing, and there weren't. Does anyone have any ideas on how to fix this, or is anyone else dealing with it themselves?

This is a symptom of InDesign believing that the keyboard shortcut is allocated to a menuitem within the InDesign menu, most likely within the Services menu.
Similar behavior is seen for Cmd-Shift-L, which is InDesign's shortcut for left alignment, but by default recent versions of Mac OS X assign it to Search With Google, though it should only work when text is selected. Sometimes the OS beats out InDesign and sometimes it doesn't. It's clearly a bug in how InDesign handles its keyboard shortcut interface with the OS as a result of Cocoaization, and I understand InDesign Engineering spent some time trying to make it work and did not succeed.
Perhaps you can look in the Services menu for a clue, though its contents sometimes changes dynamically, so that may not work so well.
(hrmm; I see others have covered the above while I was doing other things. oops.)
With respect to Edit Original, are you aware that you can invoke that by option-doubleclicking? Not the same, but I find it more convenient.

When I use find file http://www.macupdate.com/app/mac/30073/find-file (which does tend to find files that "Finder" can't), it's not coming up with any other itunes library files that have been modified in the past week, which I know it would have been - unfortunately, I don't have a very recent backup of the hard drive.  It would be a few months old so it wouldn't have the complete library on it....any ideas?  I'm wondering if restarting the computer might help but have been afraid to do so in case it would make it harder to recover anything...I was looking at this thread https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4211589?start=0&tstart=0 in the hopes that it might have a helpful suggestion but it's definitely a different scenario.

  • Command+Return and Shift+Return keyboard shortcuts stopped working

I'm using Firefox 4.0 on a 21.5" iMac running Mac OS X version 10.6.7. Just this morning, the command+return and shift+return keyboard shortcuts to auto-complete the .com and .net addresses of websites stopped working. Command+w still closes a tab, and command+left click still opens a tab in a new window. However, when I type anything in the address bar ("mac" for example) and then hit command+enter, Firefox opens up a new tab with a Google search for the word I typed. The address for this new tab is as follows:
    http://www.google.com/search?q=mac&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a
Any idea what gives? I'm rather perplexed and frustrated.

Just removed OmniBar and the problem went away.

  • My "go to in point" and "go to out point" keyboard shortcuts are not working, and the default keys arnt either? any help would be amazing!

my "go to in point" and "go to out point" keyboard shortcuts are not working, and the default keys aren't either? any help would be amazing!  I use these keys a million times a hour and since I have switched to cc I cant get them to work. track selection makes no difference or if there are markers on the timeline or not.
Anyone else feel me on this?
    any help?

Well that still didn't make any kind of difference.  I would just do without it but I've becomes really use to it with Avid for so long.  I have to admit there are a lot of small moments like this that makes me miss Avid.  Any other suggestions? I have checked the keyboard shortcuts a few times and maybe I'm just missing something here...
