Keyboard USB hub

Hello again.
Sorry I should combined this with my other thread. Oh well. Question: Is the USB hub on the keyboard supposed to be the same speed as the ports directly on the back? I was having all kinds of problems with my Creative Nomad ZEN until I plugged it into the back on the computer. Before i was getting like 6mbps transfer. With it in the back I got like 45mbps, which I was very pleased with.
So yeah, is that an indication that I need a new keyboard?
Thanks Again peeps,
Jesse

Ah, yes! That is what I thought!
thanks for the help

  • New Keyboard (usb hub question)

Aloha, before I buy the new keyboard, I would like someone with real world experience to tell me that the usb 2 hubs on the keyboard actually work, or is that just an Apple marketing ploy ? Will plugging in an iPod, or some other "power hungry" device really work? Mahalo in advance for any facts, info. JB

The webpage for the new keyboards contains the following regarding the wired keyboard:
"Two USB 2.0 ports provide high-speed connectivity for your iPod, Mighty Mouse, digital camera, and other USB-based electronic devices. Yes, we did think of everything."
I'm not sure what to make of this. I have a small external hardrive that worked initially with the keyboard ports, but it no longer works. The ports on a replacement keyboard that I received do not work either. The folks at Apple Care seem to think that many of these devices will not work with the keyboard, but they also seem to be surprised when I point out what the website says. It does sound like the marketing department needs to talk with the tech folks.
I'll try it with my wife's ipod, but it seems like the keyboards are not functioning they way they have been advertised to work.

  • Apple Keyboard USB HUB problem.

Hi, I bought this keyboard recently ( http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB...co=MTA4Mzc4ODA ), it has 2 USB ports on the side. In 1st I plugged the mouse and the other I plugged this speakers ( http://www.logitech.com/index.cfm/no...200&cl=roeu,en ). The problem is that when I'm in Windows 7 it says the hub has not energy enough to connect the devices, and the speakers do not work. Now when I'm on Mac OSX the mouse and the speakers work perfectly. Does anyone have an explanation for that?
Sorry about my english, and thank you.

well, im an idiot. disregard almost everything i just said.
Macs use EHCI/OHCI. The issue is with windows recognizing everything as low speed usb.
    EHCI handles high speed usb
    OHCI handles low speed usb
Windows is passing everything off to the ohci controllers whether or not they're high speed or not.
I'd still like a smarter windows usb driver, apple.

  • Keyboard not recognized in USB hub after 10.6.3 update

After updating to 10.6.3 (using combo updater) the keys on my Apple extended keyboard that shipped with my 24" iMac (2008) no longer work when the keyboard is connected through my Belkin powered USB hub. But oddly enough, the wireless mouse that is connected to the keyboard does work. So the keyboard is recognized and connected properly, but the keys don't work! It's definitely a software thing.
I don't have enough free USB ports on the back of my iMac to dedicate to my keyboard. Any help appreciated. Thanks!

I have the same problem. I found I can unplug the keyboard and when replugged, everything works OK.
I just upgraded to OS V10.6.4 and still must unplug and replug the keyboard in order to type.
    WHY?

  • USB HUB POWER EXCEEDED (with mid 2007 iMac keyboard)

When I connect any USB 2.0 device in the keyboard USB port, windows vista (XP too) shows the follow message:
    "USB Hub power exceeded"
But when I use the same kind of USB hardware with MAC OS they just run fine, with no errors!
Is there any way to bypass or correct this error in Windows?

Here's the basic XP troubleshooting document (from Microsoft) for that one:
One or more USB devices may not work after you start your Windows XP-based computer
But I've also seen it produced when a high-power USB device is connected to a low power USB port.
Are the keyboard USB ports on the iMac low power or high power?

  • New keyboard makes USB hub mad

I purchased a new mac keyboard. Before I was using a bluetooth mac keyboard.
Ever since plugging the new mac keyboard in (non bluetooth) I have had nothing but problems from my connected Belkin Powered USB hub.
With the wireless keyboard the hub works perfectly.
With the new mac keyboard the hub does not work properly. When booting into XP it will not boot until the hub is unplugged from the mac.
The seagate harddrive attached used to go to sleep when the mac did, now it stays on.
The hub is sporadic in XP, the various items plugged in will work then not work.
The ALT key does not work on the mac keyboard when using it to choose boot drives between restarts.
Does anyone else have this issue with the new mac keyboard? I must reiterate, without the mac keyboard plugged in and back to the wireless one, everything works as it should.

    Hi Gary
You don't say if the keyboard is plugged into the back of the iMac or to the hub? I can only suspect that the way your devices are connected may be the problem in general! If you look in the iMac handbook you will see that the keyboard should be connected to a port on the back of the Mac.

  • Install 10.6.4 and keyboard on USB Hub

I successfully installed the 10.6.4 through software update. After the reboot the screen went to blue and stayed there. I pushed the power button (but slipped and pulsed it) and put the iMac to sleep instead of powering down. I pushed it again and the mac came back now with the login screen saying no keyboard was found and it was trying to find a bluetooth keyboard.
My keyboard has been connected through a powered usb hub for several months (multiple reboots and different OSX 10.6 versions). If I connect the keyboard directly to the mac it works fine.
I later unplugged the keyboard and put it back into the usb hub (after being logged in and up and running for while). After a few minutes the keyboard went missing again.

But it was working fine just before the 10.6.4 install. (For months, maybe even years).
I'll try a different hub and see if it makes any difference though, thanks for the suggestion.

  • USB Hub does not work

I recently purchased this USB hub.
    http://www.jascoproducts.com/products/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=8&idcategory=13
My laptop cooler is able to be power through the USB hub.
However, my mouse, keyboard, and external harddrives are not working. For instance, the laser on the optical mouse is not even lighting up.
My mouse, Keyboard, and external hard drive works fine when it is connected directly to the USB pots on my macbook Pro.
Is this a compatibility issue? I mean, GE says that the hub works with mac os. And for a generic hub like this, there shouldn't be any issues right?

    Hi wifpck;
The first problem I see with this hub is that it is USB 1.1 which is a very slow out of date protocol.
Secondly it doesn't appear to be a powered hub. Hence all of the power for the hub must come from the USB on your Mac. Powering laptop cooler maybe over loading the USB port. I would suggest that you try it without the laptop cooler connected and see if works better that way.

  • USB hub does not work!  Help

I was attempting to install a KVM switch for my G4 and G5 that required me attaching my keyboard and mouse to the usb port on the back of the monitor.
The USB hub does not work! Monitor cable has no bent pins, and works perfectly for video with all my Mac's, G4's, G5's. The problem is I have had this monitor awhile and never tried these ports so apple won't help.
Anyone have any suggestions why these ports don't work and if there is a fix?
Can any one recommend a KVM switch that supports ADC, and USB so I bypass this hub.
    Thanks

Some USB 2.0 hardware works very well w/USB 3.0 & some don't.  Suggest that you contact the sound card manufacturer & ask them.  Perhaps they can recommend a work-a-round.
Another user posted about the same problem some weeks ago regarding a sound card.

  • Macbook Air + 30" Apple Cinema Display + Powered USB hub

I just received my dual link DVI to mini display port adapter in the mail today, and so far it's working just fine connecting my newer generation Macbook Air to the older 30" Apple Cinema display (the Air is closed, with an Apple wireless mouse/keyboard connected via Bluetooth).
I'm wondering if anyone has any success connecting a powered USB hub to either the adapter itself or the 30" display in order to gain some USB functionality out of the Air? I have a powered 4 port D-Link hub which worked fine directly into the Air, but I can't seem to power any devices when it's hooked up to the 30" display or directly into the adapter. I can't even get devices (external powered hard drives, Mbox) to work when plugged into the screen directly (no hub).
I called AppleCare about the problem and they said they don't support USB hubs via the 30" Apple Cinema Display when connected to the Macbook Air, but if anyone has any experience with this situation or if someone could offer me advice to get USB functionality out of my MBA + 30" ACD, it would be greatly appreciated!

    Welcome to the Apple community.
    Unfortunately not.

  • MacBook Pro (mid-2010) Internal USB HUB freezes/locks up

MacBook Pro (mid-2010) wilth the latest firmware, etc.
    OS X 10.9.1
USB KVM to share keyboard and mouse with another computer
This has been working flawlessly until I upgraded to 10.9.1
The KVM uses the Scroll Lock key to toggle the input between the two computers
I switch back and forth many times a day.
Almost once a day now, all my input to my MBP will lock up when switching the KVM over.
The MBP track pad, keyboard, blue tooth Magic Mouse, KVM mouse and keyboard all become unresponsive.
I am assuming that the interal keyboard/track pad/blue tooth transceiver are all tied to an internal USB HUB.
The MBP is up and running and I can ssh into it.  The only error message in the log is that the mouse device coming from the KVM is busy and it will be disabled. I have tried to close the lid for several minutes and then re-open, but it does not resolve the issue. I have tried connecting another USB mouse/keyboard during this time and it will not work. I have tried kill -HUP on the usbd and USBAgent processes. Everything stays unresponsive. The only way to resolve this condition is to reboot the MBP.  Note: the KVM works find on the other computer when I switch it back and forth regardless of the state of the MBP.
I am suspecting that when this happens it is some how disabling the internal USB HUB, which if all the other devices are connected through it, nothing no longer works (but maybe I am crazy with that thought).  Anyone have any insight?  Is there a way to reset the internal HUB short of a reboot?
    Thanks in advance!

I'm seeing the same problem with a 2010 Mac Mini with IOGear KVM and MS wireless mouse. This setup worked flawlessly for years on Snow Leopard but started hanging soon after the Mavericks upgrade. I'm running 10.9.4, currently the latest release. The system usually hangs after a KVM keyboard switch from Windows on the other set of KVM cables back to the Mac Mini. ssh into OSX works fine but a shutdown hangs indefinitely. top showed no processes spinning. The 1st console message after the hang was:
    8/6/14 8:49:21.000 PM    kernel[0]    USBF:    1317978.201    AppleUSBHubPort: Port 2 of Hub at 0x6200000 about to terminate a busy device (Microsoft® 2.4GHz Transceiver v7.0) after waiting 10 seconds
There were no other messages for hours before this. I'm using VM Fusion but I think it hung once without it running. The Windows 7 side of the KVM works fine.

  • IPod not recognized on USB hub

What would cause an iPod Nano to charge while connected to a 1.1 USB hub, but not be recognized by Windows or iTunes?
My brother connected his Nano to a USB keyboard port, and has lost it's charge. I've been able to get it to charge on my 1.1 USB hub, but not a 2.0 USB connection. The iPod is also not noticed by Windows or iPodServices.
I put the iPod into Disk Mode and tried all five 2.0 USB ports on my motherboard. It will only charge on the USB hub, but again, won't be recognized by iPodServices.
Intel Pentium D 320   Windows XP Pro

I have the exact same issue. Did you get it resolved. I have a replacement Nano and I think that is messing it up. I was going to send it back to Apple, but they wanted to charge me another $40.00. That would be now $80.00 to repair this piece of crap. So I am asking you if you got resolution.

  • USB Hub(s) no longer working after 10.8.5 update

Installed the 10.8.5 update via software update on my iMac 3.4Ghz i7 (no DVD drive) and had the Bluetooth unavailable issue I have seen mentioned elsewhere. Managed to restore Bluetooth via a restartwith all USB devices disconnected. However I have two USB hubs that no longer work. One is a colourful freebie so maybe not a surprise but the other is a powered D link USB 2.0 DUB-H7 which worked fine before the update. Now no device that is connected to it is recognized no matter which USB port the hub  is plugged in to. Leaves me somewhat short of USB ports.

I've been struggling with this for 2 days, since I upgraded to 10.8.5 which I needed to go to get the latest iTunes, which I needed to upgrade my iPhone and iPad to IOS7 . . . yes, right down the garden path I walked
    MacBook Pro 17", early 2009.
After the 10.8.5 upgrade Bluetooth is Not Available, same as seanluck13.
-System Preferences: no sign of Bluetooth
-System Search: no sign of Bluetooth
-System Profile Information: Bluetooth: No Information Found
-So Bluetooth is absent, removed, not present -- AGHHHHH!!!!!
Apple BT keyboard and trackpad can't be used. MacBook trackpad is worn out and I get wrist strain trying to activate it!
I read on a forum that a fix was to reinstall the system over the internet after a CMD-OPT-R restart. Did that -- 5 HOURS LATER -- NO CHANGE, BLUETOOTH STILL ABSENT !@(%&( )TY(@Q#*!!
Please someone help me before I throw this Mac down the garbage shoot. At the moment that's only a fantasy.

  • USB hubs quit working with 10.7.2

I have a Mac Pro, dual quad-core 2.8GHz Xeon, 10GB ram. Three D-link DUB-H7 usb hubs. After the update to 10.7.2 and iTunes 5.0.1 (not sure exaclty when), my usb devices & hubs quit working properly. For a while they would work occasionally.
I have a USB keyboard which works if it's plugged in directly when the computer boots. But other devices (external drives, flash card reader, iPod dock, USB display) don't work at all. I tested the hubs with another Lion system, and they work on that. iTunes wireless sync quit as well.
I've tried resetting PRAM and SMC. Neither fixed the problem. Tried repairing permissions. No change. Rebooting (many times).
Could it be a USB driver conflict? I removed VirtualBox usb drivers, as well as Parallels, but not vmware, which I also own.
When I plug in a device, I get 'trouble enumerating' and then "The IOUSBFamily was not able to enumerate a device." in the system.log
Any ideas? Is my motherboard dying? If so, why does the keyboard still work, and nothing else?

Followup info. I reset the PRAM and booted into 10.5.1, on another drive.
This time, similar behavior; HID devices (keyboard, mouse, bluetooth) work fine. Hubs (which work fine on another Lion computer!) generate a bunch of console errors:

  • I need a USB hub to charge my devices.

I need additional USB ports to charge my iPhone, Pebble watch and Bluetooth headphones. I use the iMac's own USB ports to connect my external backup hard drive and my printer.
    (1) The Amazon website says that USB 3.0 may interfere with wireless devices that run on 2.4mhz. I use an Apple wireless keyboard and also an Apple Magic Trackpad.
Will there be a risk of interference with the wireless keyboard and trackpad from USB 3.0? Amazon recommends using a USB 2.0 hub with 2.4mhz devices instead.
    (2) For charging devices only, does USB 3.0 afford any advantage over USB 2.0? Data transfer is not an issue.
    (3) Some USB hubs are powered directly off the iMac. Others have their own power supply that uses house power (120VAC).
Can I expect to recharge my devices off either a USB 3.0 or a USB 2.0 hub that gets its power only from the iMac?
    Thanks in advance.
    Dave

Non-powerer (USB bus-powered) hubs should not be used for charging multiple devices at the same time, because it will overload the iMac's USB bus.
If you are going to charge more than one devices at a time, then you really want a good self-powered hub or a device charging station.
In addition, not all self-powered hubs are created equal.
For example: I have had this > Belkin F5U259-ME /7-Port_USB_Hub for about 4 years and it charges all of my devices (iPods, Phone, RC helicopter, etc..) including my iPad when the display is in sleep mode.
