Keyboard USB port quit working

My wife's G4 has my G5 keyboard attached. She recently unplugged a USB device and now one of the two USB ports on the keyboard doesn't function. Anyone know how to re-boot that port?
G4 PowerMac   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

What kind of USB device did she unplug from the keyboard? Was it something self-powered or did it draw its power from the USB port?

usb ports quite working.  There does not seem to be anything in them.  Any ideas.

A reboot is the first  logical step.
Try resetting PRAM, it will reset the Serial Port Configuration and Port definition

  • Aluminum Keyboard USB Ports Not Working

I bought a new aluminum keyboard for my Intel Core 2 Duo iMac last week. Everything worked fine at first. I was able to connect my digital camera, flash drive, and iPod through the USB 2.0 port, while my mouse was plugged into the other.
Anywho, now the only thing that I can get to work in either port is my mouse! If I plug anything else in I get the following notice:
That's impossible being 1) it worked last week and 2) these are USB 2.0 ports.
I've tried restarting my system and running software update. Any solutions?

These ports being USB2.0 does not prevent this message at all. There is still a restricted power supply from 1 USB port (tracing back to your computer, all 3 items are being powered by the 1 port on the iMac). There is also the possibility that other USB items attached to the computer are having a very small effect, just enough to make a difference, so try with all others removed.
I would personally get a small USB extension cable plugged into the iMac, and plug your units into that. If you need more ports, a good powered hub will sort this out, as it can provide the 500ma current from each port, rather than splitting the available 500ma current between a keyboard, a mouse and another item.

  • Usb ports quit working?

I am using VM virtual box to run windows xp on a windows 7 (64 bit). I have rockwell rs logix installed on the windows xp. I had created a virtual drive to share my old files and set up a usb port to run a usb to serial adapter. I set the serial port up in the vm software and everything ran great. Then I got a notice for a new version of VM and now I can not get it to use the usb ports. I have gone through and uninstalled the vm software and re-installed it re did all of the parameters as before and still it will not use the usb ports. Here is the code that I get
It fails to attach the usb device unknown device to the virtual machine.
    Result code: E_invalidarg (0x800070057)
Any idea what changed or how to change it back?
I have tried plugging in other usb items and they will not work either.

Hello! There have been reported problems with the mouse cable fraying at the end and thus not working but if the ports themselves aren't working try unplugging everything including the 115 volt power cord to the wall and letting it sit for 30 minutes and then restarting. This allows the ports to "reset" . Tom

A barcode scanner that was connected directly to the Mac's USB port stopped working as the "USB had too much power drawn", even though it has worked for over a year in that port.  When we plugged it into the port on the keyboard, the device works. Why?  Obviously the device is operational.  Could the USB port have burned out from having too much power drawn?  If so, is it reparable?

It can't draw "too much" power, it can only draw as much as the USB port is able to provide and no more. IIRC, the keyboard port has a lower power output than the iMac's port.
That being said, yea, it's possible that the port has failed and it can be replaced or if another port works you can use that one. Although if it is still under warranty or covered by Apple Care, then I would take it to an Apple Store or service provider to get the port repaired.

  • USB ports not working after OSX 10.9.1 update

    I have a late 2011 MBA 13".
The 2 USB ports stopped working as soon as I updated to 10.9.1.
I tried zapping PRAM and resetting the SMC.
I even turned the thing off for hours and still nothing.
    Any idea how to fix?
Everything was fine until I did the update.
    Thanks.

This is not a known bug affecting 2011 MBA computers with 10.9.1 so there is something wrong with your installation. Since zapping PRAM and resetting the SMC did not work I suggest that you try one of two things but first make sure you have backed up your computer.
    1) download Mavericks and reinstall it. Sometimes an update goes awry and a reinstall fixes it. Since doing this won't disturb any of your data or applications it would be my first choice. You'll be downloading 10.9.1 so you won't have to perform any updates.
    2) boot into the recovery mode, erase the hard drive and then download and install Mavericks. Once Mavericks is finished installing you'll be asked if you'd like to migrate data and applications from a backup. Say yes and if your backup drive isn't already connect it, do so. Select your applications folder and account folders from the list and let the Setup Manager do its magic.
BTW - this is why one of my several backup hard drives is a cloned backup using Carbon Copy Cloner (SuperDuper! Is another good choice). I can boot up my computer using this backup and download the newest version of Mavericks on it if I haven't already done so. I always quit the installer first and make a copy of it because the installer program deletes itself once it is finished which is something of a pain. It gives me more options including being able to boot my computer with it, erase the computer and copy the installer to the computer rather than having to perform the download all over again if step 1 fails. Since I always download a new copy of the OS when Apple releases an update this computer will have the newest version of the installer so I also can skip the download step of option 1 and just copy it over and install on the computer.

  • MAC PRO Internal USB ports stopped working

Hello, I have a mac pro 8 core with an USB internal ports problem, the 2 in front are not working anymore, and from the 3 in the back only the middle one is working.
I tried to pull all the power out for a whole night, resetting the pram and nvram but nothing helps.
When for example I put in a keyboard in one of the ports that is not working and when I power up the machine and I press the ALT key I get the choice of startup preferences, once I select one, and the system boots up the ports stops working, so before the OS loads the usb ports are working !!!
    What to do ??

This is a hardware failure. While USB ports on the whole are just not designed very well, leading to their failures being pretty common, your issue sounds a bit more like the USB controller chip is failing.
In any case, the answer is to take it to a repair shop. If they're smart about it, they'll replace the logic board and see if that also fixes the front ports. If not, they'll replace the front I/O panel as well.

  • Keyboard USB Prots not working in Windows

When in Windows with the mouse attached to the keyboard USB port, the mouse will light up but does not move. Do I need to change a configuration or Driver.
When in OS X (10.5.2) everything works perfectly. I'm Using Boot Camp 2.0, Windows XL Home edition. I Loaded all the Drivers from the Boot Camp 2.0 driver disk. Everything on the system is working fine!!

    Hi
Since this is a Windows and/or BootCamp issue and not related to Leopard, I suggest reposting this in the BootCamp forum where you will most likely get many replies and even a fix.

  • Only 1 USB port is working

About 2 weeks ago all my USB ports stopped working except 1 on the front.   They all power my hub but my USB mouse and keyboard do not work.  Only if I plug Hub into the one port that works will my mouse and keyboard work.

  • I have a Pavillion dvd Model 1245dx. USB ports stopped working. How can I fix this?

My USB ports stopped working.  So did my DVD drive.  Any ideas how to fix this?

Back up all data before proceeding.
    Step 1
    From the menu bar, select
               ▹ System Preferences... ▹ Date & Time ▹ Time Zone
    Check the box marked
Set time zone automatically using current location
if it's not already checked. If the box is checked, uncheck it and then check it again. Test.
If the correct location and time zone aren't shown in the preference pane, then either Wi-Fi is turned off, or you're not within range of a network in the Location Services database. Under those conditions, the computer can't determine your location.
Credit for this idea to ASC member Easyas314.
    Step 2
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    ~/Library/Containers/com.apple.Maps
Right-click or control-click the line and select
             Services ▹ Reveal in Finder
from the contextual menu.* A Finder window should open with a folder named "com.apple.Maps" selected. Quit the application if it's running. Move the folder to the Desktop, leaving the window open. Relaunch the application and test. If there's no change, quit again and put the item you moved back where it was, overwriting the one that may have been created in its place. Otherwise, delete the folder you moved. The list of recent places displayed in Maps will be lost.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination  command-C. In the Finder, select
              Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • IMac (Mid-2007) USB Ports Not Working

So all of a sudden my iMac (Mid-2007) USB ports stopped working.
I turn on the iMac and it boots up. I can see desktop. I see the cursor in the upper left hand corner. I tried to use my Apple keyboard and mouse and nothing moves. I tried several different keyboards and mice and still the problem persists. I shut down and reboot it restarts and the same problem.
I've read several posts on the Internet stating it could be a power supply issue. If it was PSU why does it even start up. If its logic board thats an expensive repair as I've already looked around for logic board replacements. I wouldn't even know what Apple would charge to fix this issue.
Can somebody help with this issue?

Reset the SMC > Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) only wait for a few minutes in step three instead of 15 seconds.
    1. Shut down the computer.
    2. Unplug the computer's power cord.
    3. Wait fifteen seconds. <---- Wait a few minutes.
    4. Attach the computer's power cord.
    5. Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.
Then if that doesn't reset the USB port overload protection, go to >  Apple - Find Locations and contact your local AASP to get an estimate.

  • My iphone5 wont charge with usb port but works fine with wall plug... Infact computer. Doesn't recognizes the iphone

Battery not charging with usb port but works fine with wall plug.. So the prob is computer is not detecting the iphone5 . This problem started after upgrading to 6.1.3 version

Try to see what happens on another computer. If it works on another computer, the issue is not at the iPhone.

  • My Iphone 3gS is not being recognized in Itunes on my laptop. It is charging so the USB port is working properly. My wifes Iphone IS being recognized by the same laptop. My Iphone IS being recognized by the desktop computer and another laptop

My Iphone is not being recognized in Itunes on my laptop. It is charging, so the USB port is working. My Iphone does work on another Laptop in the house and My wifes Iphone is being recognized on the same laptop that mine is not. Any suggestions?

The key bit of information here is that one iPhone works on the computer in question and another does not. So it is unlikely that AMDS is not running or there is a driver problem; if either of these was the problem neither phone would be recognized in iTunes.
Unfortunately, I don't have an answer either. Except to verify that both iPhones (the one that works and the one that doesn't) use the same cable and the same USB port.
Also, are the two iPhones the same model and same iOS version?

  • Installed Windows & 32 Bit But Drivers and USB ports NOT WORKING.

I bugh an HP Pavillion TS 14 Notebook that came preinstall with Windows 8.1 64 bit which I hate so wiped the drives and installed Windows 7 32 bit and now I have a big problem.  None of my network drivers work and the 2 uSB ports where I plug my mouse and other SB hardware in no longer work.
I did a back up of the SW Set up file that has all of the HP dvers for my laptop but both the network and video divers won't install. And When I try to install the drives I get the eror message saying they are not compatible with this version of Windows.
I have loked on the HP website under my laptop model which s as above but HP don't do drivers for Windows 7 32 for my laptop. And I have looked on both the Realteck website for both the Realteck ethnet and Realteck wireless network drivers but none of them work or install on my operating system. The video drivers Intel don't work either. So I am really stuck a I cannot go back to Windows 8.1 as though that 32 bit Windows 7 would work on my laptop but most of my drivers are not compatible with the operating sytem And I don't want to install 64 bit Windows as I like 32 bit.
The drivers that are not working on Windows 7 32 bit are:
    Realteck RTL8188EE 802-11b/gn witeless lan
    Realteck ethnet die and
    Intel High definition graphcs driver
Which don't work at all on Windows 7 32 bit as they are 64 bit only drivers.
So can you please post me a link bth the network and Intel graphics drvers that work with my laptop. As I have tried lots of different Realteck and raphics drivers for Window 7 but NONE of them work on my system. And None of my USB ports are working either. So how do I solve this problem?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi:
Should be no problem to get W7 32 bit to work on that model.
Just use all of the drivers and software from the HP Probook 450 G0 on your model except the Audio, BIOS and firmware files.
Your model uses the Intel HD graphics driver only.
The first driver you have to install is the Intel chipset installation utility and then reboot.
    http://h20565.www2.hp.com/portal/site/hpsc/public/psi/swdHome/?cc=us&lang=en&sp4ts.oid=5359407&ac.ad...
Audio:  Accept the agreement.  Download and install the first driver on the list.
    http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downloadsView.aspx?Langid=1&PNid=14&PFid=24&Level=4&Conn=3&DownT...
If for some reason, the Intel HD graphics driver from that model does not work, then use this one...

  • HP Pavilion dv6 All 4 USB ports stopped working

    Hello,
    I recently bought a Pavilion dv6-6c11sa laptop. Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Everything was working fine for about a week, and then yesterday all of the USB ports stopped working. I have 4 USB ports in total, two 2.0 and two 3.0. No matter what peripheral device I plug in, mouse or flash drive etc, they're not recognized by the laptop. The lights don't even light up on the devices, regardless of the port. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers in device manager, taking out the battery and rebooting, installing the chipset drivers (AMD), nothing works. No programs had been installed 3 days prior to the occurence, although I had rebooted several times in that time frame. I simply booted up the laptop yesterday, and nothing worked.
Could anyone offer a solution or suggestion, please?
