Keyboard with large bright characters could be cheap substitute for backlit keyboard

A non-backlit keyboard with large, high-contrast characters could be a cheap substitute for a backlit keyboard. Most Chromebooks have tiny characters with less than maximum contrast. It would cost no more to give them legible keyboards that could be used in poor light. The first image shows a Chromebook keyboard (not an Acer) compared with the same with large-letter stickers applied. After I applied the stickers, I could type 40% faster in good light and twice as fast in poor light. (Note: I have average vision.)                        Next is the Acer C720 Chromebook keyboard. It has better contrast and slightly larger characters than most of the new inexpensive Chromebooks, but it's still difficult to type on in poor light.             A keyboard made with the design below would be clear enough to be used in a dark room by the light from the screen.

That's a REALLY good reason, bigbear.  I get it, and thanks for explaining.  I certainly was not trying to imply that there is some kind of 'issue' with adding a more visible keyboard.  It is certainly NOT a violation of anything to plug in an external keyboard.  That is probably the best solution that you have available at this time.  But if you are suggesting replacing the internal keyboard on your laptop with a 3rd party keyboard, that could become a problem.  First, as you described, it is not a task for the faint of heart.  You'd have to find a keyboard that FITS in your laptop, and they are certainly not all the same.  And as you also describe, the disassembly and reassembly process for a laptop can be quite complex.  If you cause damage in the process, that would NOT be covered by your warranty.  We call that 'Customer Induced Damage' and it just isn't covered.  It's an 'at your own risk' situation.  Adding stickers to the key caps is also not a problem for your warranty, unless of course the attempted removal of the stickers causes you to pop some of the keys off and you can't get them re-attached.  That again is considered CID.
Having said all that, as I indicated earlier in this thread, the idea for bigger, better marked key labels has been submitted to our design team for consideration.  MY vision certainly isn't perfect either, so I do understand where you are coming from.  Thanks for raising the issue again.

  • Apple keyboard with large print?

I use an iMac at work and home. I am visually impaired and find it hard to see the letters on the keyboard. Is there an official Apple keyboard with large print letters? I don't want to buy a 3rd party keyboard that doesn't have all the functions. Would be happiest if Apple could provide me with such a keyboard to replace the standard one??

    Welcome to Apple Discussions
To get a keyboard with large letters you're going to have to go with a third-party keyboard. What functionality do you think you'd have to give up? There are quite a few third-party keyboards made specifically for the Mac although any USB keyboard will work. And Mac USB keyboards work on a PC as well. I use an Apple Pro keyboard on my work PC & then only thing missing is a "Print Screen" button.

My apple keyboard had some problems, the store replaced it for me. I had to sign in to my computer, and couldn't get to pair the keyboard with the computer, as could not sign in. I know there is a command that lets you override this, does anyone know which buttons to  press.  I gather when you do this, a box comes up and pairs the two with a number you have to type in.

  • Do Apple offer wireless keyboards with Thai language characters in the UK?

Can't see them in the store. I assume they produce one for Thai customers. I need one for Uni this year and I'm not keen on stickers.

Oh dear, that is annoying! I tried searching on Amazon, but the best they have is English keyboards with Thai characters on them =/
If I find anything, I'll be sure to tell you

  • Is this this connector for backlit keyboard? (with picture) EliteBook 8760w

I recently purchased an EliteBook 8760w Mobile Workstation with the standard (not backlit) keyboard.  I really, really, REALLY want to replace the keyboard with a backlit one.  I think I have found the connector for the bavklight ribbon, but I would like some confimation before I order a new keyboard.  Can (will?) someone please let me know if the arrow in the picture is pointing to the backlight ribbon connector?  it appears to be in the correct location, based on pictures of the underside of the backlit keyboard for the 8760w.  Thanks in advance for any help!

  • With CSS, what font does Ubuntu Firefox substitute for Palatino?

    Hello,
I am using the following declaration in my CSS:
    .serif {
    font-family : Palatino;
I do not have Palatino installed on Ubuntu. I like the font that Ubuntu Firefox is substiuting for Palatino. How do I find out the name of the font that is being substituted for Palatino?
    Regards,
    PhaseMaster

You can right-click text with that font and use "Inspect Element" to open the Inspector (Firefox/Tools > Web Developer) and check the font on the Fonts tab.

  • Seeking Mac Compatible Keyboard with "large easy see" CAPS LOCK LIGHT

Can anybody reccomend a keyboard for the mac that has large easy to see Caps Lock Light in the centre of view on a keyboard?
I have a Macally keyboard - it has a caps and num lock light - but it is far to the right of the keyboard - and I cannot see it under office lights - hence I waste a lot of time typing in the wrong tYpE FaCe!
I prefer a wired keyboard - which I plug into my macbookpro, and a shallow travel postive style - ( not being fussy am I !?) but the key issue is that given  have to look at the keys to type I wish I could see if caps is on without looking at the screen.
Any help appreciated. Thanks in advance. Guy M.

Would one of these help? It saves buying a new keyboard

I recently bought Palm Wireless Keyboard with bluetooth to go with Palm Tx using Document To Go. Unfortunately, the Document application does not function properly as long as the keyboard driver is installed on the Tx! As soon as I removed the driver, the application works properly. Application problems: Can not same, neither close a document; the Tx reboot by itself ... loosing data.
    Any suggestion to help?

Since the original poster has not yet replied about his experiences, I hope it's ok for me to piggy back on his question.
Now that Palm has 2 bluetooth keyboards (Palm Wireless Keyboard with Bluetooth Wireless Technology and the Think Outside Bluetoth Wireless Keyboard), I wanted to know if anyone has gotten either to work with the Blackberry.
Alan noted that Think Outside drivers are available for the BB, but what about the other keyboard?
Both are on sale now, but the Palm Wireless Keyboard with Bluetooth Wireless Technology is quite a bit cheaper.

  • Palm bluetooth keyboard with Blackberry

Has anyone had success connecting their Palm bluetooth keyboard with a Blackberry? The Blackberry recognizes the keyboard but looks for a password. I don't need a password for my Palm TX, so I don't know what to plug into as a password for the Blackberry. Thanks.

Is backlit keyboard of 13-inch Macbook Pro with Retina display integrated English and Russian ? I mean Russian is integrated on keyboard not by using stickers or installing font

Apple does make these, but they are not sold everywhere.  Where are you located?
Nobody in these forums represents Apple or any store, so to find out whether you can buy a particular product you will need to contact stores directly yourself.  In the US you can sometimes get unusual keyboards by talking to an apple retail store and asking for a special order.

  • Copy paste text from pdf exported from Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer control with Czech specific characters produced box charactex or ?.

Used Visual studio 2012. In our project there is used the Microsoft.Reporting.WinForms.ReportViewer control. In the report handled by the control are TextBoxs with a text with Czech specific characters e.g. (ř, ě, ...) . When exporting the report to pdf,
characters are displayed correctly. However when the text with czech characters in the pdf if copied and  placed into the seach box in the pdf document only box characters are displayed. The TextBox in the report use the default font Arial. When the report
is exported to Word, and then the Word document is saved as a pdf document, its ok. Coping a text with Czech charactes in the result pdf document and pasting into the search box displays again Czech characters not box characters.
Also when in the report handled by the ReportViewer control are several Tex Boxes and some of the boxes contains Czech characters and some not, after exporting to a pdf document there is problem with text selection. When in the pdf document I'm trying to
select several paragraphs, some with Czech characters and some without them, selection behaves strangely and jumps from one paragraph to another unexpectedly.

    Hi,
did you managed to avoid those squares?
BTW: if any such char. is encountered in a line, the entire line of text is grabbled.
I've tried even the ReportViewer from MSSQL 2014, but got the same problem. When I've tried IL Spy, I found a code, where it is checked if the PDFFont is composite - depending on that a glyph is created. But that still only a guess.
I've tried Telerik's reporting, they have similar problem (beside other), but not with the special characters. They produced scuares for some sequences like: ft, fi, tí.
Please give any info you got.
Until then my advices for you:
    a) try JasperReports (seems theyre most advanced, although it is java)
    b) Developer express has quiet quality reports - and it seems they got those special chars. right :D
    c) I created a ticket and waiting for Telerik's response (but if I had to choose reporting, I vould stick with a) or b)
