Keychain access - deny

When I checked the "Show password" box for one thing listed in my Keychain access, I accidentally selected "Deny" and now it won't show me the password.   Is there a way I can undo this?
Thanks

Hello, clicking Deny here doesn't do anything permanent, just tried it & clicking Show Oassword againg brings up the same options to show or deny & filling in shows it.
Open Keychain Access in Utilities, use Keychain First Aid under the Window Menu item.

  • Insecurity of Keychain Access: "secure" notes visible during authentication

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but I'm not keen on wading through 137 pages of discussions.
I recently discovered Keychain Access' ability to create "secure notes," and thought this would be a wonderful way to keep my serial numbers, bank accounts, and other sensitive information secure.
However, I just tried to actually decrypt this information for the first time, and was rather shocked. When you attempt to open a secure note, and select the "show note" checkbox that prompts the "Deny / Allow Once / Always Allow" dialog box, the dialog box contains the "secure" information from the note!
In my example, which you can see here (http://www.justinreese.com/media/images/secure_bbedit.png), the entire text of the note is included in the dialog, previous to any password authentication. Of course, because I'm reusing the login keychain, I understand that it's already been decrypted upon logging in; however, I was under the impression that using Keychain Access to store secure notes and other passwords offered a secondary level of protection, and that even if someone were able to compromise my system while I was logged in, at least that sensitive data would remain secure (the way a dedication application such as Wallet or Yojimbo would do it).
So... is this a bug, an oversight, or simply my own poor planning in using the login keychain to store secure information?
    Thanks to all.

My suspicion is that when you created the note, in the "name" field, you used "paste" intending to paste "BBEdit 8 Registration". However, if the clipboard at the time had contained multiple lines, the "Name:" field would then contain the entire contents (Owner Name, Email Address, etc), although it might not be immediately apparent since the main "Keychain Access" window would only display the first line. However, when asking for authentication, the full "Name" is displayed. This scenario is easy enough to replicate.
The odd thing is that even if the "Name:" is subsequently edited to remove the extra lines, the "authentication dialogue" seems to continue to ask for authentication using the "old" name... it's probably being cached somewhere but I haven't been able to track it down.
So in this case, I would call this "user error" for putting "secure" info in an "insecure" field in the first place, but there is definitely some sort of bug / oversight / slopiness in that the authentication dialogue doesn't update - so in effect it is asking you to authenticate for one thing, when in reality it is authenticating something that might have a completely different name. That sort of thing might open up "spoofing" opportunities, but for a user's personal keychain, I would suspect that anyone that can get close enough to do something with it would have opportunities to do far worse. Still, it can't be a good thing...

  • Mail.app blocked from Keychain access by Sandboxd

Working on a clean install of Yosemite. Worked perfect for the first 2 weeks. Then mail all of a sudden cannot send without putting in admin creds for keychain access. I have done all the keychain resets, removed the account and re-added it. Obviously there has to be a way to add an application to trusted status for Security Server/sandbox to allow it access. The question is where and how.

I'm having the same issue since yesterday night, after changing the configuration of one specific SMTP connection.
Mail has been asking me for passwords several times in a row on every click in the inbox or on sending a mail.
The log message is the same, along the lines of "Mail(xxx) deny authorization-right-obtain system.keychain.modify".

  • Clients can't save to the server, access denied no permissions, how to give permission?

I set up my school lab with an xserv 10.6.8. Everything was fine in terms of the users logging in to their respective groups. However, they weren't able to save anything to the server , they had access denied errors or you don't have permissions, even the keychain app was giving the users an error that said it couldn't save  to reset to default values. Anyhow, I tried using the Server Admin application to propagate permissions, selected the hard drives and propagated permissions by clicking all the selections in the dialog. Now, the server wont start and only shows the grey Apple and the spinning gear, please help, I am so frustrated, I was so close to have this server running. All I want is to be able to have the students in my school log in to the server from the computer lab and save their work on the server. Simple service, I have running AFP, OD, DNS and SMB. I don't knowe if SMB is neccesary either.

Yes, I created the users using WGM home tab and then clicking on the create home now and then save. No, I didn't use terminal with the command, maybe that's one of the things I needed to do so that the problems with permissions wouldn't show. I used the secondary HD to create the sharepoint folder "Users" and that's the folder I used when creating the home directory for that specific part of the setup. My setup is pretty simple, I just want a Groups folder(sharepoint) where I can store the diffrent grades or classes that come to my lab and I have a "Users" folder(sharepoint) where the kids can use to login and save their work. Later, I may add another folder to place videos so that the folder can mount when they log in and all they have to do is go to the folder and double click on the video. Can you ellaborate more on how to use the command with terminal? Would the "a" be the name of the sharepoint? I created the folders using Server Admin, I believe that clicking on the sharepoint button, there is another button that says "new", would that be the correct way to do it? When I get back to school tomorrw I will post more specifics on the way that I setup the server and maybe it will give you a better picture of how I did it.
I really appreciate your assistance, I am trying to use the limited knowledge I have to setup this lab which will enable me to do a lot of things with the kids and make their lives easier, so they don't have to bring flash drives to save their work. Thanks again for your time!

  • After logging into facebook, I get an "access denied" message. It says I don't have permission to access facebook on this server but this is my home computer.

Recently I've had trouble either when I try to login to facebook or after I've logged in. Usually, it's a page that says "access denied" and follows with a statement similar to not having permission to access facebook on this server. It doesn't happen every time but when it does I try various ways to get back to my facebook page...usually I can google facebook and login that way. Today it won't let me do that either. Does anyone know what this means? I don't know hardly a thing about computer technology so I don't even know where to start. Thanks!

.usually I can google facebook and login that way.
Create a Bookmark for Facebook. Don't go via Google.
If you are using Safari... go to the Safari menu bar click Safari / Preferences then select the Security tab.
    Click: Show Cookies
    Delete all Facebook cookies.
Now from the menu bar again click Safari / Empty Cache.
Restart your Mac, launch Safari, try Facebook.
If you still have problems, quit Safari.
    Open Keychain Access  /Applications/Utilities
    Select Passwords on the left.
Delete the Facebook and Safari Forms Autofill keychains. Now go to the menu bar top of your screen click Keychain Access / Keychain First Aid. Enter your admin password on the left then click Verify and Repair if necessary.
Relaunch Safari. Go to Facebook. Login with your user name and password. You should be prompted to save that data to a new keychain. Click Yes.

  • Keychain Access Issuesd

I am having problems with setting up my .mac account to enable file sharing between my iMAC and my MacBook Pro.
One of the problems that I think I have is my keychain access / password. When I go into my keychain access to check my password on my .mac account, it has the wrong password. I have noticed this when I go to login to my .mac account, it always comes up with an error saying that there is an error. I have to say ok to the error dialog box to clear it, and then I am able to sign into my .mac account with the right password. The password that is listed (when I go into view the password) when I view on my keychain access list is wrong.
How do I correct this error ?

I also tried to run keychain access to verify and fix problems. Here was the entire dialog box of what I got when I tried to verify and fix.

  • Can't Get Mail Password From Keychain Access.

My neighbour wanted to be reminded of his Mail password.
So we opened Keychain Access and clicked on his internet password and then clicked the i at the bottom of the window.
A new window opened with "Attributes" at the top and we clicked on the "Show Password" box at the bottom.
A window then opened for his Keychain Password. It was different from mine. Mine simply has a Sancel and an OK button at the bottom.
His had 3 buttons - "Deny", "Allow Once" and "Allow Always". (I am not sure whether I have got those last two exactly right).
When he first got his G5 iMac he did not use a password in the initial setup of the computer and never has had one. So we left it blank (except for the flashing cursor) and pressed the Allow Always button.
It said the wrong password had been entered. We tried again several times using each of the Allow buttons but were refused each time.
As the computer has never had a login password what should we do?
I assume that his keychain access password window looks different from mine because he has an earlier version of Tiger than I do.
    Ian.

    Thanks Matt.
I can't try it now but I suspect it will work.
The big puzzle is why it said the wrong password had been entered when he has no password and we left the box empty.
Four years ago when I too had no password, simply leaving a password request box empty and clicking OK worked.
    Ian.

  • Why does the Notes app want Keychain access?

Does anyone know why Notes wants keychain access? It started when I downgraded from Snow Leopard to Mountain Lion. The dialong also won't accept 'no' for an answer. If I select "Deny" it just repeats the question and the only options are to close the program or allow access. Since it doesn't allow secure notes, why does it need the keychain, and why present a dialog with no choices?

Try going to Applications/Utilities/Keychain Access/Secure Notes and see if there is an entry there. If so, you'll need to decide if you want to keep it or not.

  • Virus got in Keychain Access

I believe my ibook got a virus in the Keychain Access. All of function in the Keychain Access do not work properly, and finally, my ibook refused me to start it with proper keychain and keyword. Therefore, I did reset my keyword using installer disk but still cannot open the lock to change the setting in Keychain Access. The Users Guide said that this is the time to do virus scan. However, I don't want buy scan software because I'm wondering I should discard my ibook or not, and Apple will not support my ibook g4 tiger anymore. If someone know how to scan the virus without buying software and bringing it to the healthy state, please let me know. Thanks,

Thank you for your immediate reply.
This issue started with slow internet access at the beginning a few months ago. I often ran Diagnostics in Network because Safari failed the connection. I always locked Network to prevent further change after I fixed the connection, at the same time, I also found the lock was opened when I have Safari failure. I changed Login password in Account and reset My Keychain although I couldn’t find any issue in Keychain First Aid.  After that, when I restarted ibook, it asked me Login password, but it didn’t open with neither new password nor previous one. I used Installer disk to reset Login password and started ibook. I went to Keychain Access and found current keychain was deleted and over written by new setting, and created new keychain was locked and cannot be opened. However, it still asks me my keychain password each time I start Safari, and always deny it as an invalid password. I still have Network connection failure all the time because of crippled Keychain. I run also Repair Disk Permission often, but doesn’t help.

  • Safari will not load pages cache access denied

    Hi,
I am on 10.7.5 and a proxy server.  While tying to get the server to stop asking for my password every 60 seconds and following advice on this forum, something seems to have happened and safari stopped  loading  pages.  The message regarldless of the page is:
    Cache Access Denied.
The following error was encountered while trying to retrieve the URL: http://www.apple.com/
    Cache Access Denied.
Sorry, you are not currently allowed to request http://www.apple.com/ from this cache until you have authenticated yourself.
Please contact the cache administrator if you have difficulties authenticating yourself or change your default password.
Firefox and Chrome work fine - except they still ask for my password at regular intervals.
I managed to transfer my bookmarks to firefox and am just wondering if this is worth it anymore.  DO I really need safari?  You cannot even re-install it!  You have to do the whole operating system.  Or should I migrate to Mavericks and a new upgraded safari?   I am fed up of trying endless work arounds that simply do not work for me.  Emptying caches, disabling extensions, dumping prefs etc
    Any help greatly appreciated!

Re trying to get the proxy server to stop asking me for the password, all the steps you recommended which I no longer remember.  Something about making sure the proxy settings were in the keychain and open to all applications, then coy to the system keychain.  Repair permissions.  Tons.  Oh and in terminal the following:
    sudo launchctl unload -w /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.UserNotificationCenter.plist
which I think had a major negative impact but I do not know how to reverse it.
I guess I am not advanced to fix these things.  Have gone to an internet cafe with normal non-proxy high speed internet and am downloading mavericks now because I am fed up with trying to fix something that never fixes. Safari works here.
Hoping that the uptodate safari will be better.

  • Access denied error while writing a file to the file system - myfileupload.saveas() throws system.unauthorizedexception

    hi,
as part of my requirement , i have to perform read and  write  operations of  few files [ using the file upload control in my custom visual web part] and on submit button click.
    but while writing these files - with the help of  fileupload control - and when i use  myfileupload.saveas(mylocation);
    - i am saving these files into my D:\ drive of my server , where i am executing my code -, am getting access denied error.
    it throws system.unauthorizedexception.
i have given full control on that folder where i was trying to store my attached files. and also  after following asp.net forums,
i have added  iusr group added and performed all those steps such that, the file is saved in my D:\ drive.
    but unfortunately  that didnt happen.
    also
    a) i am trying the code with runwithelevatedprivileges(delegate() )  code
    b) shared the drive within the  d :drive where i want o save the files.
    c) given the full privieleges for the app pool identity- in my case , its
    network service.
the  other strange thing is that, the same code works perfectly in  other machine, where the same sp, vs 2012  etc were installed .
would like to know, any other changes/ steps i need to make it on this  server, where i am getting the  error.
    help is  appreciated!

    Hi Friends,
I have gone through scores of examples and i am failing to understand the right thing to be done to copy a file from one directory to another. Here is my class...So let's see... C:\GetMe1 is a directory on your machine, right? And this is what you are doing with that directory:
public static void copyFiles(File src, File dest) throws IOException
// dest is a 'File' object but represents the C:\GetMe1 directory, right?
fout = new FileOutputStream (dest); If it's a directory, where in your code are you appending the source file name to the path, before trying to open an output stream on it? You're not.
    BTW, this is awful:
    catch (IOException e)
IOException wrapper = new IOException("copyFiles: Unable to copy file: " +
    src.getAbsolutePath() + "to" + dest.getAbsolutePath()+".");
    wrapper.initCause(e);
    wrapper.setStackTrace(e.getStackTrace());
    throw wrapper;
}1) You're hiding the original IOException and replacing it with your own? For what good purpose?
    2) Even if you had a good reason to do that, this would be simpler and better:
    throw new IOException("your custom message goes here", e);
rather than explicitly invokign initCause and setStackTrace. Yuck!

  • Keychain access application not working.

keychain not working, click on the generic app. icon and it simply pops up and closes. reloaded osx10.4.3, but no results. anyone have suggestions?
    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Next step is to create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem remains. If not, then it's a problem with the original account. If so, then the problem's system-wide.
If the original account, you have two options: 1) try to find the corrupted file, maybe the com.apple.keychainaccess.plist file in ~/Library/Preferences/. Move it to the desktop, log out and back in, relaunch Keychain Access. If that doesn't work, then check all the .plist files with something like Preferential Treatment. 2) reset your prefs in the new account and eventually delete the original.
If system-wide, then reinstalling the OS using the Archive & Install option, saving user and network settings, might be your only option, especially since reinstalling the combo update didn't fix the problem.

    Hi,
It could be several things, I think it could be a good start with the following page:
    https://blogs.technet.com/b/chrad/archive/2009/10/02/differencing-disks-merging-80070005-error-just-one-persons-lesson-learned.aspx
If that doesn't help you could check out the following technet page to see if it is a permission problem. (it is not exactly  the same problem but one of our customers once had the same problem and we solved it with the follwing KB:http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2249906/en-us

After updating to Mavericks (from Mountain Lion), I noticed that there's a new keychain called "local items" inside Keychain Access App.
so I have a couple of questions regarding this and my usage of Mail:
    1) from what I read in this forum, "local items" is the keychain created by Mavericks, it should sync to the login keychain (which is usually, and certainly in my case, the default keychain, meaning it is in bold face on the left hand side of the Keychain Access window). And as far as I understand, if you have icloud enabled, this keychain would be called "icloud keychain", if not, it will remain the name "local items", is this correct? I do not want to have anything to do with icloud, so I don't have any icloud keychain. When I log into the my account on the mac both the login and the "local items" keychain are unlocked (I guess this makes sense if they are supposed to be synced. So basically this is my understanding of this "local items" keychain, please correct/inform me if this understanding is not correct.
    2) now, I noticed that the passwords that I typed in for my e-mail accounts (set up in Apple's Mail) are saved inside this "local items" keychain. So everything seems to be fine. However, I noticed that the passwords saved inside this "local items" keychain cannot be edited in the "access control" panel (this is accessed by double clicking the password item and click on the "access control" tab.) This is odd because all the other items in the "login" keychain can be edited in this way.
    3) so my main goal is to ask Mail to NOT remember my password (I know this is not the prefer setting for most users, but I prefer to have it this way). In Leopard, Mail had a little checkbox where you set up your account that asks the application to NOT remember the password. This is really handy because it prompts me to re-enter the password whenever I restart the application, which is exactly what I want it to behave. But since upgrading to Mountain Lion (I'm not sure how it is in Snow Leopard or Lion, as I jumped from Leopard straight to Mountain Lion, and now to Mavericks), this box has disappearred. I found a work around online. Before Mavericks, the mail account passwords are saved (if I remember correctly) in the login keychain, the work around works by saving (i.e. dragging) all your email  passwords into a separate/new keychain (let's call it Keychain A) which has a different password than your login keychain (which, by definition, is unlocked upon login). So I set this up and Mail automatically knows to prompt me to enter the password for Keychain A in order to access my e-mail account passwords. This doesn't behave exactly like unchecking "remember the password" box in Leopard, but it comes close. and I was happy with this work around. However, now having upgraded to MAvericks, Mail insisted on using "local items" as keychain, and keeps asking me the passwords for my e-mail accounts (NOT the  local item keychain password, since my local item keychain IS synced up with Login keychain, therefore they are both unlocked upon me logging in) so that it can store them. The thing is I do NOT want the e-mail passwords to be stored inside "local items" keychain (because I don't want account access to equal e-mail access (for reasons I do not want to get into, but I feel like this is not too much to ask and was possible before so why not now?).
Could someone please help me out with this?  I've called Apple, and they were quite annoyed with me because the person I talked to keeps saying that I'm not using keychain for the way it is suppoed to be used, but my question then, is, if I canot get applications to use special keychains I set up, what's the use of the function "add new keychain" inside keychain access?  (in fact, the phone supporter basically keep saying "I don't know" to my questions and finally offered me to talk to a senior advisor, at that point I had to leave (and after 1hour on the phone I was quite fed up anyway). so I thought I should turn to the forum.....
    so a recap/summary:
my login and local items keychain sync up fine
but I don't want Mail to store my e-mail passwords in the local items keychain
I want to make Mail use another keychain (i.e. a keychain I set up myself), can we possible to this?
or another other work around that will make Mail to prompt me to enter passwords when I fire up the application (not constantly, but just when I restarting the application, OR after the computer wakes up)
    I'd appreciate any pointers!
    thank you very much!

I have the same concerns.  I'm frustrated that the Mail app doesn't currently allow you to use a separate keychain for the passwords.  After many years with Keychain I am being tempted to look to a third party.  Or perhaps it's time to look for a third party mail app?  This is a security issue since email is the primary way that a password change is verified with other accounts.
