Keychain Access problem

not sure if this is the right forum for this, please move it if it's not.
I was trying to buy something in the iTunes store, but when I was trying to log in with my account, it said "The requested keychain was invalid", and told me to run Keychain Access/Keychain First Aid.
This is what happens when I do:

I have a friend who has Leopard... Can I just find this file on his computer and copy it over to mine, or how exactly does this work?
Thanks.

Hi and a warm welcome to the forums!
I'm not certain, but a Leopard one will likely work.
If need be I could Archive mine and post a link, but it requires a bit of manipulation.

  • Keychain access problems after Safari 3.1 update?

I recently installed the Safari 3.1 update. Two other updates were available and I installed them at the same time. One was a security update - I don't recall the other (and, strangely, the update log is blank). After this update, I received the message that "Safari has been changed and moved, so you need to grant permission for access to the Keychain." I selected "allow all" and things seemed to progress.
The next time I started Safari, the same message. I again selected "allow all", but the program hung. I forced it to quit, tried again, same result. I ran the system maintenance programs, repaired permissions, etc. (using Cocktail) and got the same result. Keychain Access itself seems to hang and becomes unresponsive. Firefox appears to be unaffected, but I don't use it as much.
The problem seems to be with Safari 3.1 - has anyone else experienced this problem? If I uninstall Safari, download and install 3.1 over again, is there a way to save my bookmarks and cookies to reimport?

In installing the Safari Update (along with Quicktime 7.4.5, iTunes 7.6.2, and Security Update 2008-002 for Power PC), I found my Mac Mini slowed to a crawl and persistently displayed the "beach ball of death" for extended periods of time just starting up ANY program for the first time. Just restarting the computer took forever and trying to use Disk Utility did nothing.
I have talked with a friend whose son had all sorts of problems with his newer i-mac upon installation of this Safari update. I am crawling along with my machine right now, not one bit happy.
I have no answers, just a note to show I also am having problems since this update. Keychain? Never use it. I am thinking of just trying to re-install the older Safari version-3.04. Suggestions?

  • Keychain Access problems: error -2147415734

    Help!
i am currently unable to open .mac in my system preferences and i get the following message: "There was a problem saving to your keychain. Please try again or use Keychain Access to verify your keychain. Error: -2147415734"
i have gone to keychain access and done keychain first aid and that resulted with no problems but didnt fix the issue. i have also gone into my .mac password in the keychain and it will not allow me to type in a new password. in fact, i cannot even click on the box next to "Show Password" on the bottom. The box momentarily shows a check mark and then it disappears. when i try this for my wife's .mac account that is also in the keychain that works.
when i click on the menu bar icon for syncing to .mac it connects and gives me the following message: "Invalid .Mac Username or Password. Please verify your .Mac Member Name and Password in .Mac System Preferences."
because i cant get into .mac system preferences (i get the error message -2147415734) this is circular and i cant figure out how to break out of it.
    any suggestions?
    chad

Try deleting the .Mac entry in your keychain, then trying to reconnect to the .Mac account. IIRC, that should prompt for a new username/password combo.

  • Keychain Access Problem: Correct Access

I hope someone can help me, I accidently choose "Always Allow" instead of "Allow Once" after selecting "Show password" in Keychain Access Attributes. I am not experienced here and cannot find anything to help me change this back. How can I switch back to where this application password does not always allow access?
    PowerBook G4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Before I do anything, one more question:
    In: http://www.thexlab.com/faqs/helpviewer.html
Under 'Help Viewer displays a blank window / Solutions' it says to Trash 3 files:
Home > Library > Preferences folder
    1. com.apple.help.plist
    2. com.apple.helpui.plist
    3. com.apple.helpviewer.plist
    and 1 folder:
Home > Library > Caches folder
    1. com.apple.helpui.
I am missing the 'com.apple.helpui.plist' file. (I did a search and couldn't find it.) At the same time I found a strange one... 'null.plist' which when opened read:
    bplist00N_ApplicationCrashedAfterRelaunch-/
What happened... Can this be the missing one?
Where do I go from here, just trash the ones that exist and go on?
    What about null.plist?
I could use a little more help please. It would be appreciated.

  • Certificate in keychain access problem

I have obtained three certificates I have to use to access my corporate exchange server and imported them into the login keychain as directed. They do show up in the "certificates" category of the login keychain but not in the "my certificates" category. This is the category that Entourage looks for when allowing me to select a certificate. As a result, I can't select the certificate I need. Any ideas?

    hi,
you must import the /system/library/keychain/x509anchors first to your keychain app.
then use #sudo certtool i zetifikat.cer v k=/System/Library/Keychains/X509Anchors to import it to .../x509anchors. (zertifikat.cer ist your certifikate name) import your certificate (in pem-format) to your keychain. if not in pem-format convert it with ms cert manager (in the office folder of the office app). apply alway trust to the certifikate in keychain.

  • Keychain access problem after boot to Tiger on another partition

    Hi,
I ran into an odd problem today. I have two partitions on my PowerBook's internal hard drive, the main one, and a smaller one that I boot into to run maintenance jobs on the main partition. The main partition is running 10.5.2 and the maintenance partition is running 10.4.8. When in the maintenance partition, I noticed that Spotlight was indexing, so I stopped it. I was in the maintenance partition to try to run DiskWarrior on the main partition, but it kept giving me a "Disk in Use" error, so I was never able to even start this. After rebooting to the main 10.5.2 partition, however, I was unable to connect to my home wireless network. I had to retype the network name and password. After that, I started being asked for passwords for things that I knew were stored in my Keychain. I looked in Keychain, and the passwords are still there; it seems that the connection between the apps and Keychain are broken somehow. Does anyone know what might have happened, and if so, if there's a quick fix to get things back to where they were before? I don't have a problem with lost passwords, as I have them all recorded in a safe location, but life would be easier if my PowerBook could resume remembering all of the passwords that it remembered before today.
    Thanks!
    Ken

Whether you believe it or not, I routinely booted between Tiger and Leopard for over sixteen months (beta-tester) and never saw your problem, but then I disabled indexing on all bootable volumes that weren't running Leopard, using the *mdutil -i off* command. Keychains were the same on all boot volumes because I routinely copied them from the current boot volume to the others before switching. Ditto with Safari stuff.

    Hello there!
I am a new Mc Bok Pro user and had been using my mac since Sept, 2012 with no problem. Just recently however, I have been experiencing a Keychain access problem. Specifically, whenever I open the mac, it asks for my keychain password... Can I restore my mac to its condition before Jan. 18, 2014? What should I do?
    Thanks everyone!

  • Problem transferring keychain access to new iMac

just bought a new iMac, but am having problems with keychain access which has not automatically transferred with Migratiin Assistant.
can anyon help please? My old computer is also an iMac.

Are you really using 10.4.9? 'Apple Menu > About this Mac' should tell you the correct OS X version number.
The keychain is stored inside your home 'library'
On your old Mac or old backup find the /Users/YOUR-OLD-USERNAME/Library/Keychains folder. This may be hidden! You will need to use the Finders 'Go Menu > Go to Folder…' to open the library within that folder. Just drop the old home folder into that field to complete the path and add /Library to the end of it.
Double click that file & it should import that into the Keychain Access database.
Eject the backup & double check that you can still read items in the old keychain. It should copy it into the new library - but I cannot recall if 10.4 behaved the same way.

  • My computer continually asks me to enter my password for Keychain access. This problem is continuos and I am having trouble with eliminating it. I have changed my password through Security and my Accounts numerous times to no avail.  Is there anythin

My computer continually asks me to enter my password for Keychain access. This problem is continuos and I am having trouble with eliminating it.
I have changed my password through Security and my Accounts numerous times to no avail.
Is there anything I can do other than Resetting the entire computer and re installing all of the software, apps, etc.etc.

Back up all data before proceeding.
Launch the Keychain Access application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
Select the login keychain from the list on the left side of the Keychain Access window. If your default keychain has a different name, select that.
If the lock icon in the top left corner of the window shows that the keychain is locked, click to unlock it. You'll be prompted for the keychain password, which is the same as your login password, unless you've changed it.
Right-click or control-click the login entry in the list. From the menu that pops up, select
              Change Settings for Keychain "login"
In the sheet that opens, uncheck both boxes, if not already unchecked.
    From the menu bar, select
Keychain Access ▹ Preferences... ▹ First Aid
There are four checkboxes in the window that opens. Check all of them. if they're not already checked. Close the window.
    Select
Keychain Access ▹ Keychain First Aid
from the menu bar and repair the keychain. Quit Keychain Access.
If you use iCloud Keychain, open the iCloud preference pane and uncheck the Keychain box. You'll be prompted to delete the local iCloud keychain. Confirm. Then re-check the box. Follow one of the procedures described in this support article to set up iCloud Keychain on an additional device.

  • Keychain Access and password problems

Simply stated, I can't save my mail passworld to the Keychain - tried clicking the "Save to Keychain" box (so Mail/Entourage asks me for my mail password every time) -
Thrashed around in Keychain Access and tried First Aid - Verify and got:
    Verification started
Checking keychain configuration for Perry & Jodi Collier (user ID=501)
    Home directory is /Users/pezjode
Error: unable to communicate with the “securityd” process. Please restart your machine and try again. If this does not correct the error, you may need to reinstall the system software.
    Verification failed
What is the "securityd" process? Any help on any of the above would be much appreciated!
I seem to have had a lot of trouble with my system post 10.4.9 upgrade - very annoying.
    Cheers
    PowerBook G4 17 Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Thanks for that, I deleted all references to keychains in /Library and logged back in, added a keychain for my username and all is now well.
However, I've just started using MS Entourage (as the Mail program was also freaking out like Safari) and it seems that when I tell this application to save my mail password to the Keychain, it throws a spanner in the works...
Might start a new thread on this one...

  • MB Air won't let me sign in to iCloud from System Preferences. I reset Keychain Access and deleted Accounts plist. No problem signing in via web and on other Mac.

    Hi all.
I've just been given an Air. I used Migration Assistant to transfer everything (which didn't work very well: no Contacts transferred and the Air Contacts application can't even open manually transferred Contacts Archive .vcf).
Trying to transfer contacts led me to iCloud - I thought I could copy them from there. Then I discovered that I can't sign in to iCloud via System Preferences. I get two error messages. The most common one is 'you cannot sign in at this time'. I've tried every solution on the web: I reinstalled Yosemite. I reset Keychain Access. I deleted Accounts plist.
The other message I occasionally get is 'This is a valid Apple ID but not an iCloud account'. It is: I'm logged on fine on my MBP, iPhone and iPad.
    Any ideas? Thanks in advance,
    Aida

So - I have been having this same issue, and while it's not totally resolved for me, I have figured out what's causing it.  I am running a machine with two hard drives and to keep my documents on a separate drive from the OS/Applications, I used the Advanced Option to specify the location of my home drive for my user account under "Users & Groups".  I've found that if I reset this to the default path of /Macintosh HD/Users/{username}, that it works fine.  However Apple has a bug in that this functionality breaks when you specify your own home directory.  Hopefully, this will be addressed in an update.

  • Keychain access application not working.

keychain not working, click on the generic app. icon and it simply pops up and closes. reloaded osx10.4.3, but no results. anyone have suggestions?
    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Next step is to create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem remains. If not, then it's a problem with the original account. If so, then the problem's system-wide.
If the original account, you have two options: 1) try to find the corrupted file, maybe the com.apple.keychainaccess.plist file in ~/Library/Preferences/. Move it to the desktop, log out and back in, relaunch Keychain Access. If that doesn't work, then check all the .plist files with something like Preferential Treatment. 2) reset your prefs in the new account and eventually delete the original.
If system-wide, then reinstalling the OS using the Archive & Install option, saving user and network settings, might be your only option, especially since reinstalling the combo update didn't fix the problem.

  • Keychain access takes a long time to open

From time to time I like to look up a password for a site or network in Keychain Access (KA). Recently, when opening KA, I received the beachball. Looking at the Force Quit window, it shows that KA is not responding. But as many know, that sometimes means a program is 'thinking'. So I decided to wait it out. Finally, 2-3 minutes later, it opened. I used Keychain First Aid and it found and fixed a few problems. But any time and every time afterwards, starting it up again yields the same 3 minute hang/think/open result. Also, searching in the search box within KA also takes that same 2-3 minutes to find the result.
    Any ideas, folks? Thanks.

Just one addition....I just noticed KA contains over 46,000 items (!!) Wonder if that's normal.

  • How do I overcome Keychain access "Access to this item is restricted".  I need to view a password stored in Keychain

I am the adminstrator and only user of this MacBook.  I need to see an internet password which is not stored on my browser or email client.  When I go into Keychain Access and check the Show Password box it asks for Keychain password - that is no problem. Enter password, hit OK, then the message comes up Access to this item is restricted.  I have gone into File - Get Info and made it read and write to Administrsators, System, Wheel and myself but it still says Restricted.  Any ideas anyone PLEASE!!

I posted the same question elsewhere, but after poking around I discovered the following, which might be helpful.
Open Keychain Access, which is in your Applications/Utilities folder.  There should be two sections on the left sidebar, Keychains and Category.  When I opened it, only the Category section showed, but I eventually found an arrow which expanded the Keychains section.
Choose Login in the Keychains section, and "Passwords" in the Category section.  Use the search field to find the program you need the password for, and double-click on it.  A window with that program's label will open.  Under the Attributes tab, click on the little Show Password checkbox.  You'll be asked for your admin password.  Once you've entered it, the password will appear in the Show Password field.
As an aside, I thought this is what I was doing all along, so here's another thing I did before it started working:  I found Keychain First Aid and ran both the Verify and Repair options.  Both of these reported no problems, but it might have done something to encourage things to work right.*
*As you can tell, I anthropomorphize my electronic devices.  It's the only way to cope with the way they misbehave.
