Keychain directory disappears

I've recently begun to have keychain issues. When I open Keychain Access, the only items in the keychain list are System and System Roots. When I do verification in Keychain First Aid, I get the following message:
Verification started
Checking keychain configuration for mylogin (user ID=501)
Home directory is /Users/mylogin
Checked login keychain
Error: login keychain not found
Unable to get info for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain, reason: The operation couldn’t be completed. No such file or directory
Checked default keychain
Problems were found; you should choose the Repair option to fix them
Verification failed
Then when I do repair, I get this:
Repair started
Checking keychain configuration for mylogin (user ID=501)
Home directory is /Users/mylogin
Checked login keychain
Error: login keychain not found
Created a new empty “login” keychain.
Checked default keychain
Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
Problems successfully repaired
Repair completed
I'm then able to add a password to my keychain, but within a few minutes, my entire ~/Library/Keychains/ directory disappears. I'm at a complete loss as to how to fix this, and extensive Google searching has yielded no similar cases. Any suggestions?

Hi,
I've been experiencing exactly the same problem for almost 2 months now. Have you figured how to solve it yet? It's really hassle to keep on entering your password everytime. Basically defeats the purpose of having a keychain.
Thanks in advance

  • My login.keychain keeps disappearing...Help!

    Tough one here I think...
My login.keychain keeps disappearing. Has done about 6 times in the last two days. It takes all my passwords and preferences with it. Every time I repair or replace the keychain it acts fine for a while. The I launch an application that looks up a password and it happens again.
I need help for my sanity. %P

    Hi, Jazqas.
    1. Do you mean the file is actually gone, or is it that apps keep requesting access to the keychain?
    2. Files that go missing unexpectedly can indicate a corrupted disk directory. As a general checkup, I suggest you run the procedure outlined in my "Resolving Disk, Permission, and Cache Corruption" FAQ. Perform the steps therein in the order specified.
    3. Have you been using the Reset Safari function of Safari? Do not use "Reset Safari" unless you are prepared to lose all Internet passwords saved in your keychain.
"Reset Safari" is primarily intended for clearing personal information that may have been saved while using a public Internet terminal running Safari. While it can be used as a Safari troubleshooting action of last resort, it was not designed with that intent and one should backup their keychain first. See the AppleCare Knowledge Base document “Safari 2.0 Help: Resetting Safari.” Unfortunately, Reset Safari cannot be undone.
    Good luck!

  • Keychain passwords disappeared!

So I turned on my MacBook Pro this morning, and all of my keychain passwords (and the login keychain) had disappeared. I ran keychain first aid and it said my keychain was damaged, so it rebuilt my login keychain, however none of the passwords reappeared. Does anyone know how I could get back those passwords that disappeared from my login keychain. I also had a secure notes keychain which disappeared as well. thanks.

Also, i just noticed that all of my internet browser bookmarks, and ichat away messages have also disappeared... Anyone? Thanks!

  • Keychain Items Disappeared!?

I think this is the right place to post this, but if it isn't, please let me know.
About half of the items I had in my Keychain have disappeared, they were there a few days ago, and today they're gone - has anyone else had this problem?
Yesterday I cleaned out Safari cache and deleted cookies - it's the only thing different I can think of that I did - but doing this shouldn't affect Keychain, right?
I'm at a loss and hope someone has some insight.
    Thanks.

Well - after several attempts (Backup has it's problems), I was able to restore my keychain items.
According to a tech guy at my local Apple store, keychain items that are associated with AutoFill may be the only ones affected when I do my Safari housecleaning, not so much the cookies but emptying the cache and resetting Safari.
Because not all the keychain items disappeared, I may do a controlled experiment (now that I know I can restore from Backup), just to see which ones where affected.

  • Import Problem: Directory disappears from LR

I usually import by date and have folders for each year and then folders  for each shoot. 2010 had about 45 shoots (some shoots have one or more  sub directories),
Total catalog is about 17k files; 2010 alone ~7k files.
I  have repeated imports of several shoots now. They (folders for the  shoot) are not showing in the library although if I select 2010 all the  pictures are there (the proper folders have been created on the drive  and contain all the expected pictures).
I have tried to Import to a specific folder with the same result.
The  difference is that I can see the directory during the session, but If I  close and re-open LR then the directory disappears.
Since some  (not all) of these shoots were on my laptop I also exported the catalog  on the laptop and tried to re-import on my desktop with the effects  described above.
The HD still has about 160GB space not that it would matter since  the files are properly copied.
I tried many things, including  optimizing the catalog, deleting the preference file.
This  behaviour started on LR 3.0 but continued after install of LR 3.2 RC.
After a few days of frustration and several shoots waiting to be processed I have  created a new catalog and have imported my last 5 shoots with no  problem to the new catalog.
Both Desktop and Laptop run Windows 7 64bits, have plenty of RAM and HD  space. I have used LR1, LR2, All the LR3 betas, LR3 release with no  problem in the past; LR3.2 RC works fine now on the new catalog.

    Thanks for your interest.
    > You mean pictures are in the catalog but their folders are NOT?
The folder is there when I import but as soon I close and re-open LR, the folder disappears.
    > And, if you're in 2010 folder and right-click one of the pictures from a "ghost" folder and select "Goto Folder in Library", where does it take to? It should take to to the exactly same folder where the pictures is actually located.
It goes nowhere... again the folder is not there in the library but all pictures are there if I go to "Last Open" or move the grid to to the end. The folders are properly created and the files copied as I can see in Windows Explorer.
I have kind of solved the problem by exporting the catalog and re-importing it to a new catalog.
I mark the question as answered since I am not looking any more for a solution but the all thing is still a mystery.

  • Disk directory disappeared after 7.4.1 upgrade

I see folks are having various problems with the 7.4.1 update, but I haven't seen anything exactly like this.
After upgrading an AEBS to 7.4.1 the directory on the attached USB drive disappeared. The drive is visible in Airport Utility (5.4.1) which correctly shows disk capacity, available and used space, etc. Mac Finder and Windows Explorer can see the network drive, but cannot display the file directory - no folders or files are shown. But the properties of the drive can be displayed, and the directory is visible and intact when the drive is directly attached to a PC or Mac via USB.
    Anyone else have this experience?

    {quote}I don´t get it ! just delete and copy the files? just that?{quote}
Yup, that's what fixed it. 2nd level Apple Support called it "unstable directory." I asked for the technical explanation from Engineering but haven't heard back yet. Makes as much sense to me as it apparently does to you.
    {quote}Another symptom is, after this firmware update several files with 0 bytes and gibberish names appear in my disk...{quote}
I didn't experience that problem. Don't know if a Mac could delete them, but reformatting would be my preference.
    {quote}...how may I format fat32 500gb disk using windows vista{quote}
Try going to the drive manufacturer's site and look for a utility. For instance, I used Seagate's DiskWizard on my 1TB FreeAgent drive (http://seagate.custkb.com/seagate/crm/selfservice/search.jsp?DocId=200895&NewLan g=en&Hilite=format+fat32).

  • Login keychain keeps disappearing from Keychain Access Utility

I'm running OSX 10.8.3 on a mid 2009 MacBook Pro, and having several problems with passwords and perhaps permissions.
There are two users on this computer, one for me and one for my wife.  Mine was set up long before hers, but she uses it more because I use a newer Mac now.
On her account, everything seems to function normally.  It's my account that is causing problems.
For example, mail can't remember my passwords. I have gmail (and others) configured in Mail, and when I go to check the account settings, everything is right except the password space is blank.  When I start mail, it prompts for the passwords for each of the mail accounts, I enter it, and it prompts again, endlessly.
Also, I can't log in to iCloud from that computer, although I can login from my browser on the same Pro, and from my iPhone and from my MacAirbook using the same account and password.  (This may or may not be related - I don't know.)
When I open KeyChain Access, the upper left panel shows only two Keychains - System and System Roots.
I tried File/Add Keychain and pointed to the login.keychain in home/library/keychains. The login keychain shows up in the upper left panel, and the passwords for all my previously added logins all show up when I click on the login keychain in the upper left panel and then click on the passwords category in the lower left panel of Keychain Access.
But when I quit keychain access and restart it, or when I restart the computer and go back to keychain access, the login keychain has again disappeared again.
I have tried keychain "verify" and "repair" but verify says everything is OK,  no problems, and so repair doesn't fix anything. It checks the login.keychain and says there are no problems.
    Any suggestions?

OK, I spoke too soon. It's ALMOST fixed, but there's still one niggling litte problem.
When I start up my computer, it first asks me to log in (as it should).
Then, after it begins to load everything, the following message pops up.
"Mac OS wants to use the "myname logins" keychain. Please enter the keychain password"
I enter it and that's the end of the problem until the next time I start up the computer. This is a huge improvement to what it was previously doing, but I'd like to fix that, too.
I am wondering if it's related to a problem with the configuration of my login keychains.
When I open KeyChain Access, it shows 2 login keychains, one called "login" and the other "myname logins" (I added the second one to solve the problem at the beginning of this topic - April 22 above).
The one OS X asks for is myname logins.
Myname logins contains passwords for my LAN, but nothing for the airport itself.
The "Login" keychain contains passwords for my airport/time capsule.  But there are 8 different entries for it, 4 of them with the same "Date modified" and 4 more with a second "Date modified".
This login keychain also contains many obsolete entries for ISPs I no longer use, and for routers I used once or twice in clients' offices several years ago.
    So, 5 questions.
Can I remove all these obsolete keychain items?
Can I remove some of the duplicate items?
Should I consolidate these to one keychain or should I leave them separate?
If I should consolidate them, how do I do it?
Will consolidating them solve my problem with OS X asking for my keychain login password when my configuration is loading?
    Thanks.

  • ConfigArchive Directory Disappears After config.xml Becomes Corrupt

This posting is duplicated in weblogic.developer.interest.management
Has anyone seen this problem (and know if this is a known bug)? This is easily
    reproducible:
    1. Verify that you have the configArchive folder with backup configs in them.
    2. Shutdown managed servers and Admin server. 3. Edit the config.xml (intentionally
corrupt it, we are just doing this to demonstrate what may happen if it is corrupted).
    3. Try starting up the servers. It will obviously fail. 4. Check to see if configArchive
folder is there. It should still be there. 5. Fix the config.xml or restore your
saved working copy. 6. Restart the servers. 7. Shut them down again in the correct
sequence of course (managed first, then admin). 8. Check the configArchive folder.
This time it's gone! All your backups are gone.
Has anyone run into this? Is this an expected outcome? I would expect the backup
folder to be there permanently when corruptions like this occur, and not disappear.
Please let me know if I am missing the point or the purpose of this backup folder.

I contacted a BEA Tech Support rep concerning this issue. After some research,
she informed me that this has been brought to BEA's attention already, and that
it will be addressed in a future release.
    Thanks.

  • Added keychain keeps disappearing

    Hello!
I've created a new keychain in the Keychain Access. Every time I open KA I have to manually do file>add keychain> and select this other keychain. Then it appears in the sidebar, but the next time I start the app, I have to add it again.
This keychain is not a default one and it is stored in my Keychains folder.
Is this a bug, or is there a way to keep a keychain in the sidebar? I haven't found one.
    Thanks in advance

  • My podcast directory has disappeared

I got an error out of nowhere saying my library had been corrupted and that the backup had been recovered. The music is all back in place but my entire podcast directory disappeared. The files are still on my computer so how do I point itunes to them.
I really hope I don't have to resubscribe to each one, because there were dozens :\.

You will have to resubscribe, alas.
To get your existing ones back into itunes - You can try just dragging the Podcast folder into itunes, but I've had mixed results with this....depending on how old the files were, they might show up as music tracks. But with itunes 8, you should be able to change them to Media Kind=Podcast on the options tab.
It goes better if itunes preferences are set for "Keep iTunes folder organized" on the Advanced tab.
Best of luck, and make regular backups of that ITL fie in case it happens again!

  • I've messed up my keychain badly

I somehow managed to make all my password information disappear in keychain and all that is left are X509 anchors, two items in System and Nothing in Directory Services which is locked.
When I run keychain first aid I get this over and over when I click repair.. It does not seem to repair the setting that are locking the keychain. What can I do to fix everything in one fell swoop even if it means totally resetting the keychain... As things are now, I cannot even use Entourage without entering four passwords manually and cannot change this in the accounts area because it doesn't work even when I click save the password to keychain...

I solved this myself. I had been backing up regularly to an external firewire drive using Super Duper's smart update and when I booted off the external drive found that all was still well with the keychain as their had been no backups after last Thursday. I did preserve my Entourage Main Identity folder from the messed up internal hard drive and then used Super Duper to do to a smart update from the external to the internal HD. That restored everything to as it was with the exception that I lost a few minor items from the desktop of the internal that had not been backed up. I had no changes to the documents folder from Thursday when I did the last backup so I really lost nothing in the process. I still don't know exactly what happened or how things got locked so badly. This is what I saw when I opened keychain access on the hard drive and it is significantly different than that on the external.

  • Open Directory or LDAP Problem with 10.5 Client and 10.4 Server

Yesterday, the client-server setup we've been using successfully FOR YEARS decided not to work on a v10.5.8 MacBook Pro client. Did not do anything to the v10.5 client recently (other than to boot it up). Not sure if any software was updated on the server recently (where do I check for this?). Curiously, a v10.4.11 client running on a Mac Pro (tower) continues to work fine/as though nothing's changed. It appears as though the only difference is v10.4 client (working) vs. v10.5 client (not working).
    Here is what IS working:
    1) Network Home Directories on dedicated drive partition of Mac running OS X Server v10.4.11. AFP, DNS, and Open Directory are all up and running (normally, I think) as shown in Server Admin application.
    2) Mac Pro (tower) client running v10.4.11 binds to and authenticates at v10.4.11 server. Any valid user can access their home directory on the server seamlessly when logging in at this v10.4.11 client Mac.
    3) That same v10.4.11 client Mac also contains a LOCAL admin user with its home directory on the local hard drive. That LOCAL admin account is used to update software on a per machine basis (and preclude users from adding unauthorized software, needing to use a specific machine, etc.).
Here is what IS NOT working:
    4) On a MacBook Pro client running v10.5.8, the LOCAL admin account looses access to the partition containing its local home directory. The drive partition literally disappears. The only "solution" I've been able to find (and it's not truly a solution) is to turn off the Open Directory/LDAP binding (using the Directory Utility application). With binding turned off, the LOCAL admin user has no problem accessing their home directory on the local hard drive partition. Turn binding on again (using Directory Utility application), and the LOCAL admin user can no longer see its local home directory.
Again, binding is necessary to allow regular users to use the v10.5 MacBook Pro with Network Home Directories (as in items 1-3 above). Binding should be turned on for this reason. However, with binding on, the LOCAL admin user cannot manage the computer because the local partition containing the admin home directory disappears/is inaccessible. Turn binding off, and the partition containing the admin home directory reappears.
Perhaps there's something in the sever logs that will help. I don't really know how to read these, so if your help involves the logs, please refer to them explicitly (e.g., "in Server Admin, go to Open Directory->Logs->LDAP log" or similar).
    Any help greatly appreceated.

    Nope. Never used sso_util.
I try to use Apple's GUI server management tools unless absolutely necessary/at the end of my rope (i.e., last step before re-install etc.). I figure there's just too many things going on under the hood: using the command line may fix one setting, but not re-configure the two or three others that Apple NEEDS in order to have the whole thing working in harmony. Unless you really know what's going on with all the configuration files, it's best to let the GUI manage the settings.
In my particular circumstance, I've now got ALL Leopard clients, one Leopard v10.5 server, and one Tiger v10.4 server. Everything is working fine now, but it was not a simple matter getting the Tiger v10.4 server re-integrated into the otherwise ALL Leopard environment. OD/Kerberos is on the Leopard v10.5 server. Home directories are still on the Tiger v10.4 server.
Two keys to getting THIS/MY set-up working:
    1) Tiger v10.4 server needs to have Open Directory set to "Connected to a Directory System" and has to be joined to the Kerberos realm that was set-up on the Leopard v10.5 server (use Server Admin to do all of this).
    2) Sharepoint on Tiger v10.4 server has to have SOME, but NOT ALL checkboxes for guest access enables/checked. See:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10903468#10903468
Number 2 immediately above is contrary to what Apple manual for User Management reads, but this is what worked for me/my set up, after pulling my hair out following the manual's instructions to the letter and not getting the thing to work!

  • Generating a print doc deletes other docs in the same directory

Generating a new doc into a directory that contains a different doc generated off the same Word template causes the older doc to be deleted.
MY RH8 project is set up with a number of Print Documentation SSLs, one for each chapter of a book, all to use styles from the same Word template. Each SSL has the same Location selected, so all the chapters are by default created in a common directory, where each can be tweaked as needed and later all merged into a single PDF for distribution.
But as each doc is generated, the previously-generated doc in that directory disappears. The newer and older files have different file names, were generated by different RH Printed Documentation SSLs, but the SSLs refer to the same Word template. If a previously-generated doc is still open in Word when I generate the next, then I get the "[template name] is locked for editing" prompt, I select "Open a Read Only copy", it runs on to completion, and then both docs are present in the directory as expected.
The selected output can be doc, docx, or pdf, and always the earlier file is deleted. The selected Location in which the files are created can be inside the project or outside the project. It makes no difference whether the template's properties are set to Read-only.
An obvious workaround is to copy each file out to a different directory as soon as the file is generated. But RH deleting differently-named files is so obviously a malicious thing to do, I can't be working it right. Any ideas?

When you generate a Print Doc SSL, a log file with name <ProjectName>.log is created along with the generated word doc(s) in the output folder. This log file contains the name of the previously generated word doc(s). When a Print Doc SSL is re-generated, it read the name of previous word doc from the log file and deletes it and creates a new word doc with possibly new name given in the SSL settings.
So, this is the normal behaviour of RoboHelp and works correctly if each Print Doc SSL is generated in separate folders. But when all the Print Doc SSLs are generated in the same output folder then the current SSL reads the log file of the previous SSL and hence deletes the previously generated word doc in that output folder.
    Workaround:
    1. RoboHelp has an option to generate individual Word Document for each Chapter, it can be used instead of Multiple SSL with one Chapter each.
    2. If you can't use the first option for any reason, then delete the <ProjectName>.log before generating the each Print Doc SSL.
