Keychain not working

Hello, and thanks.
I recently got around to changing my admin password, and now every time I use Safari or Mail, I am constantly asked for a password -- and every time I enter my Mail password and check remember in Keychain, it is ignored and I have to keep entering it. I want to use Keychain First Aid, but I get the following response:
Repair started
Checking keychain configuration for [XXXZZZ] (user ID=501)
Home directory is /Users/admin
Checked login keychain
User differs on ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist, should be 501, owner is 0
Owner not corrected on ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.security.plist, reason: No such file or directory
Checked default keychain
Checked keychain search list
Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
Checked contents of /Library/Keychains/FileVaultMaster.keychain
Warning: some problems were not fixed
Repair failed
Help!

Great question. I just located the file, (follow the path to the library, preferences...) used the get info command to open the dialog box, and where the tab says owner, i changed that from system to me. the system asked me for my password, and I marked it with a color for future ease of discovery. Then, I re-ran the keychain repair, repair was completed. For good measure I chose verify, ran through and all is well.
Now lets see if that fixes the other issues. good luck.

not sure if this the right place to ask, but i've been having a time connecting to the internet via an apple internal modem v.90, i still have system 9 loaded since Mac OS X was introduced and the modem works well there. i have a feeling i have a keychain problem and not sure fix the problem or how to rename a keychain file, i've tried everything except renaming a keychain file.
    in my system keychains file:
    Keychains:
    SystemCACertificates.keychain
    SystemRootCertificates.keychain
    SystemTrustSettings.plist
    X509Anchors
in my home library i have 4 keychain files:
    Keychains:

    login.keychain
    login_renamed1.keychain
    login_renamed2.keychain
    (dot.mac.user.name).keychain
assistance and diagnostics doesn't help me set up my internal modem in network preferences. hopefully it is because of my keychains - not that that is a good thing!
after rebooting a million times i get lucky and connect to the internet.
any help would be appreciated. what keychains should i delete, what one should i rename?
in my keychain access i have two login keychains and system boots
under both login keychains (both are bold) there are my pop email and dot mac email passwords
there used to be a system key chain?
after installing Mac OS X Leopard i connected to the internet first try - the next time i turned my computer on connecting to the internet with my modem took forever constantly tweaking my network preference and keychain first aid.
    i installed Login & Keychain Update 1.0
i have never had a problem logging onto my computer.

  • Keychain not works not sync

Hello , I have ipad, iphone and imac .
I have a big problem which Apple does not fix me , take a week with him, and just make me instructions for Dummies ( from sites supporting )
the problem is that the ios devices do not save or read data from the keychain , Mac seems so.
no biggie configuration with a new id apple works perfectly , it's no problem to restore the keychain , I have done over 100 times .
the problem is that my apple id has something corrupt, and do not know or will not fix it.
They have made me change the password for testing and have put my apple id in test mode , and so far I have no answer .
I've tried all the options, with security code without code with sms ... and does not work .
however with the new id that I've created the operation is instant .
every 2 days call me to tell me the steps to make fools out anywhere , and no longer to do.
between this and the bad bad bad Yosemite , I 'm thinking of jumping ship .

Presuming you have AutoFill enabled, in Safari preferences, save Usernames and Passwords, then I would suggest the consideration that some websites block this facility in web browsers to enhance security. These are usually financial / ebanking sites, but it may apply to others as well.

  • Login Keychain not working after recent Leopard update

Hi, I've been out of town for the last few weeks and upon returning, I pulled down the most recent updates. Since then, I'm being prompted to enter my keychain password every time I need to access an application. The issue is that when I type my password in, the system is telling me that the password is inaccurate and I am 100% certain that I am typing the correct password in. I ran the Keychain Access "Verify" and then "Repair" and I get the following result. What should I do next?

After using Leopard for awhile, I think the "Login" keychain, is the same as your login password, and Leopard asks you over and over again for your "Login" keychain password and I kept putting in my keychain password which was wrong, I finally put in my standard login and it accepted that password. I have no idea why, but I am glad someone else had the same problem....I thought Leopard only hated me!

Because anybody gaining access to your computer would be able to automatically log into the site without having to enter any additonal information. I don't know of any of my financial institutions that allow it.
That doesn't make sense especially when talking about Google or Facebook!
Why is that? I know that I am unable to access Google Mail without entering my password each time. I'm pretty sure I'm challenged to re-enter it once a week when I'm in Google+.

  • Keychain not working-help.

I forgot my password and used a simple 'hack' to change it. However, it hasnt changed the keychain as far as i can see. I've tried changing my login password in system preferences but that makes no difference to the keychain. I've also tried keychain acccess but that's useless unless i know my keychain already.
I think i've had this problem before but i can't remember the solution.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks
    Iz

I found this which solved my problem: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106973, except that it won't let me set it as default.

  • Keychain access application not working.

keychain not working, click on the generic app. icon and it simply pops up and closes. reloaded osx10.4.3, but no results. anyone have suggestions?
    powerbook g4   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

Next step is to create a new admin user account, log into it, and see if the problem remains. If not, then it's a problem with the original account. If so, then the problem's system-wide.
If the original account, you have two options: 1) try to find the corrupted file, maybe the com.apple.keychainaccess.plist file in ~/Library/Preferences/. Move it to the desktop, log out and back in, relaunch Keychain Access. If that doesn't work, then check all the .plist files with something like Preferential Treatment. 2) reset your prefs in the new account and eventually delete the original.
If system-wide, then reinstalling the OS using the Archive & Install option, saving user and network settings, might be your only option, especially since reinstalling the combo update didn't fix the problem.

    Tutorial: Resolving Keychain Issues
If you can't access your keychain, or forget your password If you can't get into your keychain file because you've forgotten your password or the keychain file appears to be corrupt, there are a couple of options.
First, if you've forgotten your password, you can use the "Keychain First Aid" utility to make the keychain password the same as the login password. This can be accomplished via the following process:
      1. Open Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Preferences"
      3. Click the "First Aid" tab
      4. Make sure the "Synchronize login keychain password" box is checked
      5. Close the Preferences window
      6. Go to the "Keychain Access" menu and select "Keychain First Aid"
      7. Enter your username and password
      8. Click the "Repair" button
The second option is to completely delete your keychain then recreate it. This routine is useful if your keychain appears to be corrupt or otherwise inaccessible. This can be accomplished as follows:
      1. Launch Keychain Access (located in Applications/Utilities)
      2. Click "Show Keychains" in the lower-left corner of the window.
      3. Select the problematic keychain from the left-hand pane.
      4. Navigate to the "File" menu and select "Delete Keychain '(name of keychain)'"
      5. Check all options for deletion and press "OK"
      6. Create a new keychain by going to the "File" menu, then "New" and selecting
          "New Keychain"
      7. You can now make this keychain your default if you desire by selecting it, then
going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make '(name of keychain)' Default"
Login as root and perform repair In some cases, problems with keychains can only be resolved when logged in as the root user.
First, you want to enable the root user:
      1. OS X Mountain Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      2. OS X Lion: Enable and disable the root user
      3. Mac OS X 10.6: Enabling the root user
      4. Enabling and using the "root" user in Mac OS X
After enabling the root user, and logging in under this account, again open Keychain Access. First attempt repairs using Keychain First Aid, and failing that, delete then recreate the keychain as described above while logged in as root.
Persistently asked for stored passwords If you are persistently asked for passwords in various applications that you have specified should be remembered in a keychain, your "login" keychain may not be active for one reason or another.
Navigate to ~/Library/Keychains/ (this is the Library folder inside your user's home folder). Find the file named "login.keychain" and double-click it.
Failing that, select the "login" keychain within the Keychain Access application and make sure it is the default keychain by going to the "File" menu and selecting "Make 'Login' Default"
Turn off Keychain synchronization in applications having problems If specific applications are experiencing issues when accessing password-protected material, the Keychain may be to blame.
The above comes from an article published on MacFixit.com.

  • Keychain reset does not work

Can't reset my keychain. Just upgraded to Mavericks, had to restart for an iTunes update and everything went downhill from there.
dozens of applications ask for access to 'local items', my user password doesn't work and i tried a few other passwords that it might have been, but i know i used my user password before installing mavericks, but that's not working.
Went online to try to find answers, got pointed to the 'reset my default keychain', clicked it and the program asked for the password for 'local items' keychain, tried my user password again, didn't work. The 'Login' keychain is now gone completely, it disappeared. Clicking 'reset my default keychain' brings the popup 'specified keychain could not be found', so that won't work anymore.
Looked for some more answers, one pointed to deleting the keychain entirely, which i tried but the option to delete 'local items' is greyed out.
Attempted keychain first aid, it asks for a password to access 'local items'. after trying my user password again, it didn't work. now the first aid displays an error message every time i attempt a repair. here's the text from my latest attempt:
    Repair started
Checking keychain configuration for yousefshohayeb (user ID=501)
    Home directory is /Users/yousefshohayeb
    Checked login keychain
    Error: login keychain not found
Created a new empty “login” keychain.
    Checked password for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
    Checked settings for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
Settings for ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain may cause the keychain to be locked
    Current values: lockOnSleep=yes, autoLock=5 mins
Unable to change keychain settings (-128)
    Checked default keychain
    Checked contents of ~/Library/Keychains/login.keychain
Warning: some problems were not fixed
    Repair failed
after that, i restarted my computer, when i put my username to login to my account, i got asked to provide the keychain password for 'local items'. This happened while i was logging in and the computer refused to log into the account until i pressed the 'cancel' button.
Nothing is working, what do i do?
As a side note, i either want to unlock the 'local items' keychain or i want to stop messages from popping up, which i attempted and again hit the 'local items' password wall. I also can't check 'allow user to reset password using Apple ID' because the option is greyed out even after unlocking it to change items.

Your login.keychain password is out of sync with the new iCloud keychain and needs to be re-sync'd.
The new iCloud keychain is either called "Local items" if you don't have syncing enabled or "iCloud" if you enabled iCloud keychain sync.
    Open 'Keychain Access' Application
Select the 'login' keychain from the keychains list
Click the lock at the top to lock the login keychain
Click the lock again to unlock the login keychain
After entering your login keychain password you should be presented with a dialog:
Clicking the reset button will re-sync your login.keychain password with the iCloud keychain password.
If everything from the above fails for whatever reason the last resort you can do the following:
    Open terminal
    cd ~/Library/Keychains
    ls
When you 'ls' here you will see a folder that contains a bunch of random number liks so:
94ED610F-DD96-4ECF-A2BC-7D2F8651A464  (this number is unique on each system)
    rm -rf 94ED610F-DD96-4ECF-A2BC-7D2F8651A464
    Reboot
<when you log back in everything should be back to normal>

  • Keychain no funciona correctamente / Keychain does not work correctly

    Buenas noches,
    Gracias.

First of all, thanks for replying.
The info you requested is attached.
This router is connected to a ISP so can't negotiate the LFI feature, but I think this would be independent of the CBWFQ.
I've noticed too that the queueing mechanism in the Dialer interface (weighted fair) is not cloned to the Virtual-Access. I've tried to upgrade the IOS too to the latest 11.3T version but still not working.
Instead, I've tried it with a Virtual Template and it works, but I have problems with the negotiated IP address and the NAT feature.
I've found the following technote, where you can read: ...the DSL interfaces do not support service policies that apply fancy queueing since these interfaces do not implement the "back-pressure algorithm" necessary to signal that excess packets should be queued by the Layer 3 (L3) queueing system.
    http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/tech/tk543/tk545/technologies_tech_note09186a00800b2d29.shtml
I've found some other posts with similar problems.
Could be probably a bug or a limited feature?

  • Impossible to delete POP accounts from iCloud keychain and SMTP not working

    Hello,
After an aborted Mavericks clean install, I reverted to Mountain Lion via Time Machine and started experimenting with iCloud Keychain on Mavericks using trashable Virtual Machines.
I am hitting two serious problems with email accounts :
    1. I turned on iCloud keychain ONLY on my Mavericks test installs (not on my iOS device)
    2. First time I turned it on and used my usual AppleID, the test install retrieved all my email accounts (I have many of all types)
    3. I could not make password SMTPS work on any IMAP accounts, so I decided to delete ALL email accounts from my iCloud Keychain
    4. When you ask to delete an email account, it asks if you want to delete it from ALL your accounts, whoch is what I did (make a clean slate)
    5. Of all the accounts I have, I have two old disabled POP3 accounts. I deleted them as every other one (including FB, Twitter, LinkedIN, Exchange, ...)
Every time I set up a new test install with iCloud keychain enabled, these two POP accounts continue to show up on the list.
Every time I delete them again from ALL keychains they disappear, but anytime I launch Mail they come back, and if I delete them again, and then I add a new email account they come back.
No way to delete them from ALL keychains
And BTW user/password SMTP on SSL for IMAP accounts does not work for me. It fails all the times on my postfix server.
    So, my issues are :
    - iCloud keychains seems unstable with email accounts (probably with POP accounts only)
    - SMTP over SSL with user/password doesn't seem to work
Anybody hit the issue ? For me is a severe showstopper for Mavericks and iCloud keychains
    Best
    Luca

Restore it as new.  Why wouldn't you do that when purchasing a used device from another individual?

  • Keychain Will Not Work OS X 10.7.2

I get the below message when I try to open Keychain on my new MacBook Pro.  Can anyone help me figure out what I need to do to get this critical program to work properly?
Check with the developer to make sure Keychain Access works with this version of Mac OS X. You may need to reinstall the application. Be sure to install any available updates for the application and Mac OS X.
    Thanks

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account, or is system-wide. Enable guest logins and log in as Guest. For instructions, launch the System Preferences application, select “Help” from the menu bar, and enter “Set up a guest account” (without the quotes) in the search box.
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your personal files or settings. Any application you run will behave as if you were running it for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
As Guest, try to launch Keychain Access. Same problem(s)?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.

  • Sending encrypted emails from the iPad is not working

I can't get sending encrypted emails working on my iPad3 running iOS 8.0.2
Let me explain what I did:
    1. I created S/MIME certificates for 2 email addresses on my iMac in Keychain Access. One email address exists only on the iMac the other only on the iPad.
    2. I set "When using this certificate" to "Always Trust" in both certificates.
    3. I exported 1 S/MIME certificate (p12) and installed it on the iPad. Then I deleted this certificate and its private&public keys in iMac Keychain Access
    4. I exchanged public certificates between the 2 devices. I installed one certificate in iMac Keychain Access and the other in iPad/Settings/General/Profiles.
    5. On the iMac in the iPad certificate I set "When using this certificate" to "Always Trust"
    6. I tested whether I can send and receive signed and/or encrypted emails
    Results:
    1. From the iMac I can send signed and/or encrypted emails to the iPad.
On the iPad I can read the encrypted emails. The signature is not trusted
    2. On the iPad I can send signed messages to the iMac. On the iMac the signature is trusted.
I cannot send encrypted emails from the iPad to the iMac. The iPad doesn't know about the public certificate in iPad/Settings/General/Profiles
So much for the straight forward part. Now it gets a bit more complicated and confusing.
    1. I deleted the iMac certificate in the iPad/Settings/General/Profiles. Then in iPad Mail I opened the signed mail coming from the iMac.
I viewed the untrusted certificate in Mail and installed it. From this point on all signed emails from the iMac are trusted.
Strangely the by this method installed certificate doesn't appear in iPad/Settings/General/Profiles.
Furthermore I still cannot send encrypted messages to the iMac. This certificate installation seems to be used only to check trust worthiness of the signature.
Installing on top the iMac public certificate in iPad/Settings/General/Profiles doesn't enable to send encrypted messages from the iPad either.
To be sure that this problem relates to the iPad certificate management and is not related to an error by me I did the following:
    1. I transferred a p12 file for a certificate that I created in my iMac to a PC running Windows7.
    2. I transferred a p12 file plus its public key (.pem) that I created in my iMac to another iMac into Keychain Access. (I have not tested if the pem is needed).
    3. On the other iMac and the PC I made sure that the certificates are trusted.
On the PC that means in the Certificate Manager the p12 needs to be in the "Personal" folder and in the "Trusted Root Certification Authorities" folder.
The public keys need to be in the "Trusted People" folder and the "Other People" folder. One can just copy/paste the certificates.
    4. In both cases I deleted the certificate and public/private keys on my iMac.
    5. I exchanged public certificates between the devices.
    6. I tested exchanging signed and/or encrypted emails between my iMac and the PC and my iMac and the other iMac.
    Result:
    1. I can send signed and/or encrypted emails to the other iMac and the PC
    2. The PC and the other iMac trust the signature from my iMac and can read the encrypted emails
    3. My iMac can read encrypted emails from the PC and the other iMac
    4. My iMac trusts emails with signatures from the PC and the other iMac.
Everything is working as it should.
After the above test I wanted to see whether I can set up encrypted email exchange between the iPad and the PC. Strangely iPad Mail recognized the public certificate from the PC installed in iPad/Settings/General/Profiles and allowed me to send an encrypted email to the PC. However, on the PC I was unable to read the encrypted email. And the other way around, encrypted emails send from the PC to the iPad cannot be read on the iPad.
My conclusion from all this testing is that iPad mail encryption is still "under construction".

I was able to resolve the above described problem to some degree. Setting up sending and receiving encrypted emails between iOS and OSX I have working.
What is still not working is reading encrypted emails on the iPad/iOS8 received from Windows 7 PC. And sending encrypted emails to Windows 7 PC.
The details about how I solved part of the problem are described here.
